Connected to router, but menu bar says I'm not

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my menu bar WiFi icon has the ! with no bars and the alert "No Internet Connection". However, I have full WiFi access to my router and internet. This doesn't happen on my MBA 11", also upgraded to Mountain Lion. When I run Network Diagnostics, it then knows I have internet access.

I spent the entire day yesterday trying to solve this very problem.  In addition, anytime the wireless was activated on my iMac, it would block wireless access to my iPad and Macbook Air.  I tried ALL the fixes I came across, which worked for some and not for others.  I was one of those others.  I even changed routers (I have an Airport Extreme).
What solved it for me was reinstalling Mountain Lion from the recovery portion of my drive.  I did not reformat beforehand.  I did not even do it from a key.  Just held down Command R while starting my iMac and chose to reinstall the OS.  It needed to be connected to the internet and my wireless actually worked the whole time.  I think it was because it was in a sort of safe mode.  I like the fact that, unlike Microsoft reinstalls, you are reinstalling Mountain Lion, not three generations back to Leopard and then updating.
All my units work well now, even with wireless active on my iMac.  It's been close to 90 minutes with no problems.

  • I am connected to internet but iTunes diagnosis says I am not connected.

I was trying to update my iPod touch OS to newer version (4.2.1 to 6.1.3?). To do that I downloaded the operating system and then tried to update. My latest iTunes shows that "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore first.......". Then I click the button "Restore iPod". Then iTunes shows "Extracting software". Then it shows the error message "The iPod can not be restored at this time because the iPod software update server could not contacted or or is temporarily unavailable."
Then from the iTunes help menu I click the button "Run Diagnostics". In the Network Connectivity Test mode it shows two results: Green: Network interfaces verified  and RED: Internet connection failed, RED: Secure Link to iTunes Store failed.
I don't understand why it shows "Internet connection failed" because at the same time I am accessing iTunes store, opening apple web site and accessing other sites.
Please help me to restore my iPod.
I am looking forward to hear from you.

  • Many of my photos appear briefly as I scroll down the page then disappear leaving a box outlined with a broken-line.  The menu bar says that I have 300 pictures hidden, but I am unable to get them unhidden.

I am experiencing difficulty with iPhoto '11.  Some of more recent photos can not be accessed.  As I scroll down the page of photos, the most recent ones appear briefly, then disappear to be replaced with a box outlined by a broken-line.  The menu bar says that I have 317 photos hidden.  Hiding photos is not something that I normally do, can't imagine why these are hidden.  Anyway, when I try to unhide the photos, I can view them as an event, but if I click on a single photo, or try to move it into an album, the photo does not display.  Instead I get a dark exclamation point within a triangle.  Another problem with these same photos is on the event page there is no key photo for these events only a dark screen.  I can't find an answer to my problem.  Has anyone experienced this?  What is the problem and how can I correct it?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Can't connect via PPPoE in menu bar

    Hello,
After not touching my Network Configuration settings for like three years, a glitch in my Unison 1.8.1 newsreader prompted me to go in to check, but I then encountered the prompt that has been afflicting lots of people: "Network settings have been changed by another application."
So after some research here and via Google, I deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist and restarted the computer with the file still in the trash.
I then manually reentered my ISP Network Configuration info (TCP/IP and PPPoE, as I use ADSL), but since then, I have only been able to connect via the Internet Connect program, rather than my preferred method that I've always used of connecting by using the PPPoE drop-down menu "Connect" command in the menu bar in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen.
Going back to System Preferences' Network Configuration, showing the Built-in Ethernet's PPPoE panel, the "Show PPPoE status in menu bar" box remains checked, and indeed does display in the menu bar, however, only with a functioning "Disconnect" command -- NOT the "Connect" command, whose functionality I am seeking to restore.
I realize this is more of a cosmetic problem, as I can still connect via the Internet Connect program, but would appreciate any tips for restoring the functionality of the PPPoE drop-down menu "Connect" command in the menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Hi Steve, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, move these files to the Desktop.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    Then reboot once more.

  • Ipad is showing connected to wifi but it is saying its not connected to internet.  I have reset all settings, tried to change IP address and subnet mask and nothing is working.

My ipad mini 3 is not showing that it is connected to the wifi, but it is saying it is not connected to the internet.  I have reset network settings and then reset all settings and it has not worked.  I have tried to change it to static and change the IP address and the subnet mask and that is not working either.  I have also tried to use the wifi in different places and that doesn't work either.  Please help!!!!  iPad is useless without the internet.

    1. Set router back to Auto DHCP.
    2. Turn off router for 30 seconds and on again.
    3. Re-boot iPad.

  • Connected to router but cannot get on the internet

    Hi,
I have connected my sons laptop to home hub 3 and it is showing connected to router but when we try to connect toonternet we get error message, have tried connecting to lots of different web pages without any joy.
Laptop will connectto other wireless when we are not at home. Really not sure where we are going wrong.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Couple of things to check:
    1) Are you using the wireless passkey that is on the Homehub label to log on with?
    2) It could be that your computer has IPv6 selected. Try disconnecting it as follows:
    Select Start
In the search field type.ncpa.cpl and press enter.
In the new window right click on your wireless network connection and select properties
In “This connection uses the following items” section remove the tick beside Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) then press OK
Left click on Internet Protocol IPv4, click properties . Check the options to obtain IP addres and DNS server address automatically.
Once done try and connect to internet.

Thanks for trying to solve my problem. It appears that the password I was inserting was incorrect. I now have access.

Your install disk must look like this
    and not like this.
Those gray disks are machine specific and will only work with model of Mac that they shipped with.

You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. It appears that page is no longer being maintained. You appear to have the latest Firefox 8.0.1 installed

*You can also see your version on the ''Help > Troubleshooting Information'' display
If you want the Google search page as your home page, a new, updated version is now built-in to Firefox. Reset your home page to '''''about:home''''' for that new display.

  • HT5312 I tried to download a song but Apple is saying I have not used this computer before

I tried to download a song but Apple is saying I have not used this computer before and that in order to downloas the song I need to "verify my identity" by answering some securiry qiestions.
This is wrong because I have downloaded scored of songs on this computer but I answered the security queations anyway, only to be told I have answered incorrectly.
    But the anwers were correct.
Anyone any ideas what might be happening?
    Thank you.

Have you re-installed or updated the OS on that computer ? There have also been the occasional post from other people when it hasn't been the first purchase.
If it's not accepting your answers then the page that you posted from has instructions for how to reset them i.e. if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down that page should give you a reset link.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use
