Connected to wifi but no internet connection

I have a very peculiar issue: since today at noon, my ipad stopped to work on the wireless network.
lauching safari will result in a connection error, same for mail or for any other app that uses internet, but the wifi is alive and kicking, i have an ip address and everything is totally "fine"
The network is apple, no 3rd party routers, and was working until noon; my mac pro works just fine using wireless and wired connection to the airport extreme, same for the macbook; just the ipad cannot surf, even if it has an ip and is connected.
Is anyone ever experienced this? I have tried to turn off and on the ipad, use another network and so on, but the result is the same: gets the ip, gets connected but no apps can use internet (included vpn).

What it is? If it starts with 169., then you don't have a valid IP address. That is a typical DHCP problem. The best solution is reboot the router.

Go to settings, then wifi. There, you can choose a wifi router and if needed, enter the password. You haven't provided any details in your post. Are you trying to connect to a home network?  A commercial network?

  • My iPod 5th gen connects to wifi but the internet doesn't work.

So we were watching netflix on the ps4 and something happened and now my ipod will connect to the wifi but the internet doesn't work. everything else connects just fine to the internet just not my ipod. I've renew my lease, reset my settings and network, forgot my network and rejoined,  turn my ipod completely off and back on, turned my wifi off then back open. The IP address is 192.xxx.x.xx

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • One wifi spot my iPhone connects to wifi but not internet. All other devices connect to internet.

My iPhone connects to wifi just fine. When it does it connects to the internet just fine except in one location. My house. My MacBook Pro, my wife's iPhone and her iPad get on the internet there just fine. My Iphone's IP address it begins with a 10. At my house it occasionally will connect to the internet through wifi but I leave wifi off there because it is so intermitent.
    Any suggestions?
I have not seen this problem addressed.

  • Connects to wifi but no internet

Hi! This problem just recently started for seemingly no apparent reason. My MacBook Pro will connect to my wifi network, but then it won't connect to the internet. The wifi symbol will have an exclamation point in it and my router symbol turns from blue to blinking yellow (Belkin router). I'll try turning off wifi and turning it back on again and it searches but then goes back to the exclamation point. I'll do this 6 or 7 times and then sometimes it'll start working again. When the problem happens there is a green light next to wifi and then red lights next to everything else. So it's connecting to the network and then experiencing a problem. I've tried restarting both the modem and router which yield promising results as first but after a couple hours the problem returns.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Emily, the exact same thing happened to me on the same date. Also a MacBookPro (2009), can connect to my wireless network at home but no internet, although the router seems to be fine (because my older laptop connects to it) AND my airport must be ok because I'm on the wireless network at work right now with no problem. Could it be a virus we've both got? My wife was using my laptop for Facebook when it suddenly stopped working, and she certainly didn't change any router settings or network preferences. Perhaps a malicious link on Facebook?  --Lloyd
edit: actually there's one difference in our situations: in my case the MBP does show an IP address when I can get onto the wifi network but not the internet. And I'm still on 10.5.8.

  • Have wifi but no internet

Setting up airport extreme with comcast cable modem. Finally got green light and internet on iMac via ethernet. I get a strong wifi signal on macbook pro and iPhone but no internet. Is there a setting I'm missing or is the AE defective?
    Thanks

If the device provides wireless, it's almost certain that it's a gateway/router with 3-4 ethernet ports.
If that is confirmed, then the correct setting on the AirPort Extreme would be as follows:
    AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
If it's a simple modem with only one ethernet port, use the same sequence as above except that the setting for Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
    Click Update to save settings.
If she has a cable modem, it will need to be fully reset.
Push the reset button (if present) and power the modem down
Pull the battery if it's easily accessible
Wait 30 minutes. Longer would be better.
Power up the modem with the AirPort Extreme connected to it.

  • IPod Touch - 4th Gen. Checked onto open WiFi but NO internet connection?

Hi, New Ipod Touch user. when I search for WiFi connection - open unlocked connections and find them, I click and select these but then when I go into safari; I get the "cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet message".
Is there something else I need to be doing - I am able to see a few open - unlocked WiFi networks even ones named Free Public WiFi at work, but, even with these click - I have no access to internet??

Have you tried the basic troubleshooting here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Is it your router or is it a "free" wifi hot spot. For some free wifi you may have to do something. It depends upon the specific setup.
    Have your :
    - powered of and then back on the router:
    - Reset network settings on the iPod:
    Settings>General>Reset
    - Have you reset your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Ipad 2 can connect to WiFi but not internet ?

Brand new IPad 2 user:  I am setting up unit right out of box. Can connect with my Verizon FIOS Wifi with IPad and have strong signal.
Cannot now connect to the internet via Safari. Have tried several of the solutions offered in Apple manuals such as cleaning out network settings and starting over, but to no avail.
I have also gone to the Verozon support website for clues.
Any IPad2 users under Verizon out there?

  • Able to connect to wifi but not internet.

I am able to connect to the wifi at work with my 3GS but I can't connect to the internet. There are SOME at work who are having the same problem (not all). My phone was able to browse yesterday and I've made no changes. I've tried resetting the Network settings and nothing. Password hasn't changed since yesterday.

Stephen: The problem might be similar in your referred post, but it is not the same.
I have a (more) similar problem, being that I CAN connect to my Airport Express (AE) via wifi, at least that is what the menubar and the "network settings" indicate, however while the phone indicates that I'm connected none of the phone's applications can access internet.
The app "Remote" can't find my MacBook Pro either. And that is most surely connected because I'm writing this post on the MBP connected to internet via the very same AE.
However, when I take my iPhone and MBP to my parents place (they don't have apple gear, but an old "Level One" Wi-Fi router), both internet and "Remote" works perfect.
I had no such problems before upgrading my 3GS to iOS4. Anyone?

  • Can connect to wifi, but no internet connection

So, this is my first MacBook.  I just bought it yesterday, so I believe I have the latest OS (OS X? Maybe?  I'm computer literate with PCs, but really a n00b here, and cannot even find where it would say what OS I'm using).  I have tried connecting to wifi networks using Airport at a few wifi hot spots and have about a 50/50 record.  They always connect just fine to the network, but half the time I get a "No internet connection" error.
When I try my iPhone 4 or my laoptop (running Windows 7), I have no problems.  This led me to believe that the problem is with my new MacBook.  But when I went to the apple store, the "genius"/sycophantic fanboy told me that the problem was really with the various coffeeshop wifi routers, not my MacBook.  Essentially, he said that my OS is too advanced for the routers to handle and so they need to upgrade.  This strikes me as patently ridiculous, and if he is right, it sounds more like Apple decided not to make their latest OS backwards compatible with (not even that much) older technology.  And, ergo, its really Apple's problem that I am now burdened with.
So, is this an actual, common problem?  Did Apple really decide to make its latest OS incompatible with routers that are merely 2 or 3 years old?  Or is there some kind of fix I can do from my end (I don't intend on asking all the coffeeshops in my town to upgrade).
    Thanks.

I am precluded, as a general rule, from knowing anything about the router in this (very common) situation.  This happens at about half of the wifi hot spots I go to, and the idea of having to ask a barista about their router's firmware is clearly ludicrious.
That said, I don't believe (95% sure) that I get a valid IP address when this problem happens.  (I have one now, obviously).  And I have no clue about the router's firmware.
    Thanks

  • Time Capsule has green light, connects with wifi, but no internet

After a recent cable outage in my area, I no longer have internet through Time Capsule.
The cable company's "maintenance" has been corrected/restored.
My cable modem works fine and connects directly to my MacBook via ethernet just fine, as well.
When I connect the cable modem to the TC (via ethernet), the green light eventually comes on and my MacBook can access the TC via wifi just fine, but I cannot access the internet.
    Thanks, in advance!

Please try the following to get the TC and modem communicating again:
o Power-down the modem, TC, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the TC; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-up the computer(s).
Computers connected to the TC, either by wire or wireless, should now have Internet access. Please post back your results.

  • MacBook pro a1278 mid 2012 is connected to wifi but no internet

hello guys, i have a MacBook pro A1278 with OS X mavericks, my issue is that The computer is always connected to my wor connection, but out of the blue the internet goes off, like i tried to download a file, 100 mb, it was working property for like 5 minutes and then the download stopped and all the internet connection failed, although the MacBook was still connected to the wifi and the wifi icon was at it's maximum, then after a few minutes it was working again for like another 5 minutes and then it stopped again, i also have a windows pc and it was working property all the time.
is there a way that u can fix this?
    thanks

Even though the iPod shows as been connected, it might not have actually received a valid IP address via DHCP from your Wi-Fi access point or router.  Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected. If 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is listed for an IP Address, then your iPod did not receive a valid IP address.  To correct this you can reboot your router by unplugging it from power for about 30 seconds.
It wouldn't hurt to also reset your iPod.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Perhaps this article would be worth at as there may be a configuration on your mother's router/modem that is preventing access.  This will require you to have admin access to the router/modem's configuration interface that is usually accessible via a web browser.

  • Macbook Pro connected to wifi, but no internet connection

    Hi,
Just bought new Macbook Pro yesterday with Mountain Lion OS. When back home, trying to connect internet, unfortunately safari would always says "No internet connection". I try very hard on getting it up creating new connection on MBP but it still give the same result. So I think it should be related my router setting. The current wifi setting for my TP-Link router is WPA2-PSK, AES, channel 11 with secured password. When I changed it to NO security, supprisingly the connection is now OK and I can browse internet through Safari. The problem is I have to get it back to WPA2 security setting since my home internet is now open to my neighbourhood and of course it shouldn't be shared all around you. Anybody can tell how the router setting should work with MBP, with details on security type, AES or TKIP,CHANNEL?

That doesn't mean anything.  You can't telnet to google. lol
The ping you did above shows you that Internet access and DNS is working fine.  If it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to get replies.  This means that the problem is with your browser.  Open up Safari and hit Safari/Reset Safari under it's menu.  See if that works to solve your issue.  If it doesn't, then it's a plugin or something else (maybe Proxy changes, etc.) which could be causing this.  One option you have to test is if the reset doesn't fix it, install another browser (you'll need to download the dmg via another PC and install it on the mac from a memory stick or something) and see if a 3rd party browser works.
