Connecting 2 3750 Switches in Stack with 2 2960 switches in full Mesh

Hi Friends,
I have attached a pics  which DC design of one of our customer , as network engineer i have design this , so i am responsible for implementing it, now request you all to kindly guide me what would be technical problem i have to face in achieving this and how can i over come .Please be in detail. Waiting for your response .
Regards
Amit Kulshrestha

I have attached modified diagram , please suggest.
The major issue I see is that you have not mentioned whether the 2960's are stacked? For the design to work, they need to be stacked because you cannot create port-channels between them and the Core switches unless then 2960's are stacked.
==> You are right , surely 2960 Switch need to be in stack form.
Personally I would look at more powerful switches than the 2960's, something along the lines of the 3750x range or probably now the 3850's.
==> This is constrain of customer, not our responsibility.
The second issue I see is that your servers are connected to the WAN switches. Is there a reason for this? Usually they would be connected to the core switches.
==> For this If 1 separate 2960 series switch can be used ?.
The final point is that you only have single connections from each of your WAN connections which begs the question as to the purpose of having two WAN switches?
==> Customer is having 1900 series of router , only two ports one used for WAN and other used for LAN.
The objective of having two switches is to provide redundancy/resiliency. If you have only one connection from each WAN then why do you need two switches as there is no redundancy?
==> Customer has agreed to have manual change at the time of failure.

  • CER 7.1 vs 2960S switch

I have CER ver 7.1.1.10000-5 with the latest patches. I installed this one most recently to support the 2960S switch (
    ciscocm.cer7_1_1_CSCtj28150.cop.sgn).
My 2960S switch is running IOS version 12.2(53r)SE. This switch is stacked with two members switches.
Why is it that my CER console is only showing ports 2/0/1 - 48? I don't see any ports on the first switch.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

There still should be a management interface on the second switch with SNMP.  Is SNMP configured on the second switch?

  • Adding switches to stack

    Hello,
I've have 2 x 3750G stacks with 3 switches in each and I need to add 2 more 3750Gs to it, can I still get these switches are the X range is out?
    Stack 1
    WS-C3750G-24T-S
    WS-C3750G-48TS-S
    WS-C3750G-24T-S
    Stack 2
    WS-C3750G-24T-S
    WS-C3750G-48TS-S
    WS-C3750G-24T-S
    All are running 12.2(53)SE C3750-IPBASE-M
Also when adding a new switch to the stack does the stack need to be relaoded?
    Thanks

You can add the 12-Ss to your stack, however beware these switches support (additional) SDM templates unique to them.  I.e. insure they use a "standard" SDM template.

  • Can you stack 2960 Switch?

My question is can I stack two or more 2960 switches, master/slave design and be able to manage them both using the CMS technology or not. I don't quite understand the SFP, Small Form-Factor Pluggable, and the 2960 uplink ports. It appears as though one uplink will be in standby mode, therefore both ports can't be active at the same time. If that is the case it looks as though you can't stack becasue of only one uplink port being active.

    Hi Washro,
You cannot stack 2960 switch like you can do 3750 switches but you can still achieve clustering on this switch.
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat2960/12240se/scg/swclus.htm
Also both uplink ports can be active at a time if they get connected to some other switches but if 2 get uplink to same switch then STP will block one port.

  • Stacking with Cisco Blade Switches

    Hi,
We have a HP p-class Blade System with two Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Switch Modules (Cisco IOS Release 12.2(25)SE) for every enclosure. My question is how I can stack the two blade switches (in the same enclosure) so that every HP blade server to be connected with the two switches in the active/standby state? In other words, can and how I make a port-channel which includes ports from the two switches?
Unfortunately I couldn't found any documentation for the purpose.

    Hi,
With the CGESM switches you have you cannot use 802.3ad teaming against the two blade switches. This is possible with the Cisco 3120 blade switches for HP c-class.
Now, in your case, you can use standard Active/Standby NIC teaming, where the active NIC of each server connects to one switch and the standby NIC connects to the other switch. Should a blade switch completely fail, all of the servers with their active NIC connected to the failed switch should see the link go down and switch over to the standby NIC on the second switch. This should work very well.
One problem that can happen however is that the blade switch itself does not completely fail. Instead maybe the blade switch uplink fails, or the upstream switch it is connected to fails. In this situation the server NIC does not experience a failure and continues to send traffic to the blade switch that does not have anywhere to send the traffic, a black hole. This is perhaps the problem you are seeing?
The fortunate thing is that Cisco has a solution to this problem called Trunk Failover with Link State Tracking. What this allows you to do is to tell the blade switch that if it experiences a failure on its uplinks that it should also bring down the links to the servers as well. This will cause the servers to see a failure on their active NIC and perform a switchover to the second blade switch.
I looked up your switch and found that your 12.2(25)SE1 code does not support this feature. You will need to upgrade to 12.2(25)SEE4 and you will be able to configure this on your switches.
Here is a link to see how this configuration works:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/blades/3020/software/release/12.2_25_sef1/configuration/guide/swethchl.html#wp1346176
    Hope this helps.

  • 2960 switch fiber connection over 40km single strand SM fiber

    Hello everyone,
We are having an issue with the connection in the subject. We just gost dark fiber for connecting 2 2960 switches with single strand single mode fiber over more than 10Km.
Looking at the compatibility matrix and the SFP gigabit applications the 1000BASE-BX10 is the best I could find but cannot reach more than 10Km.
Can anyone please propose a solution? If media converters are the only way to go can please sugest manufacturer/model (even with SC connector) since Cisco does not make Media converters.
    Thank you
    Mario

A 40 km link is usually run using 1550nm wavelength due to lower light loss on the fiber at this wavelength.  The 1000BaseEX module is spec'd to 40km and runs at 1310 nm wavelength, but you will lose light through a WDM filter (which is integrated in the single fiber SFP) which would reduce the link's length.  I would check with some of the 3rd party media converter manufactures to see if any of them have a lower cost solution that operates over a single fiber at >40km.
Sorry... a link loss budget is the sum of:
Fiber cable loss + fiber connector losses + fiber splice losses + impairment losses (dispersion or PMD) + aging losses (safety margin).
If the transceiver's Loss Budget is greater than the Link Loss Budget, then the link should operate.
www.thefoa.org has some good videos for understanding fiber terminology at an easy to understand level.

  • Catalyst 2960S switch stack support?

I have a customer with a new stack of four Catalyst 2960S switches.
Is this configuration supported by Onplus?
I can't seem to figure out the login access and enable access credentials
so that Onplus can backup the configuration of the stack.

I also have a 2960S stack in my office. I checked my handy OnPlus iPhone App and it shows backup, restore, and firmware all equal 1 which I recall correctly means backup is supported. I'll double check when I get into the office to ensure backups are actually working.

  • I am trying to setup wireless using my old dome Airport ExtremeBase station. I had previously used it about 5 years ago when I had dial up but have now switche to DSL with Windstream. I can not get connecte as ABS keeps trying to dial up(the phone number)

I am trying to setup wireless using my old dome Airport Extreme Base station. I had previously used it about 5 years ago when I had dial up but have now switched to DSL with Windstream. I can not get connected as the ABS keeps trying to dial up(the old phone number). When I tried to change my network settings an annoying popup window says "your network settings have been changed by another application'. I have no idea what the message is all about and when I close this window it immediately pops up again and prevents me -as far as I can tell -from changing my Airport settings?  I need advice on how to get this wireless setup done. Maybe a reset? or something else? I have the DSL phone line plugged into WIndsteam Seimens Speedstream 4200 modem and then the ethernet (yellow) wire from the WIndsteam Seimens Speedstream 4200 modem to the port on the dome that is a circle of dots.

1)Can you explain how using the AEBS as a bridge will work with the Seimens Speedstream4200?
As a bridge, the AEBS will basically become a wireless access point. This will allow the AEBS to provide a wireless network, but still allow the Speedstream to provide NAT & DHCP services for the wireless clients connected to the AEBS. If the AEBS was left as a router, you would have a double-NAT condition which isn't necessary bad in itself, but would create a second subnet. That would make it more difficult for clients connected to the AEBS to access clients connected to the Speedstream.
    2) Is there a link that will guide me through the steps to set the AEBS as a bridge?
You can easily reconfigure the AEBS as a bridge using the AirPort Utility.
ref: AirPort Utility > Select the AEBS > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
3)Can I just connect the DSL phone line to the AEBS and eliminate the Speedstream4200?
Unfortunately no. The AEBS does not have a built-in DSL modem. You will still need the Speedstream to provide this function.

  • Duplex Mismatch when connecting ip phone with 2950 switch

When I connect my Cisco IP Phone 7960 with 2950 Switch (any access port within voice vlan), I get the message on Port duplex mismatch but the phone works properly.
From my switch the speed setting is 100/Full but from the Phone its Auto.
My Question is when I try to change duplex settings from Phone, it doesn't gives me any option instead only one option available to save so kindly someone tell me the best way to fix this from Phone or do I have to change the duplex from switch to AUTO ?

Thanks but When I connect with my Cisco 2950 Switch, I can see the weird kind of language as per my attachment.
It wasn't yesterday when I first configured from scratch but just seen today.
Switch is working good with Cisco IP phone connected with it.

    Hi HARISH INDIA,
That is not good but lets see if we can get it back to life. If you can, see if you can put your iPhone into recovery mode and then use iTunes to restore it. If you can get it to restore, it will erase everything off your iPhone. If you have a back up in iTunes or iCloud then you can put that on after the restore is complete. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Can't connect to Dlink GigE switch at 1000Mbps with built-in wired

I can connect to the switch automatically at 100Mbps or manually at 100 Mbps, but when I try to set the speed manually to 1000Mbps I get no light on the switch port and no connection. Cable is cat 5e, all 8 wires are in connector properly and tests good.
    Switch is Dlink DGS-2208.
I've tried removing uplink 100Mbps connection going to router and only leaving a Windows box on that is connected fine at 1000Mbps with no luck either.
    Any ideas anyone ?
    Thanks.

First, you'll want to configure your connection to configure automatically; the adapter will negotiate the fastest speed possible with the switch. The only real reason to configure a connection manually is if you want to connect at a SLOWER speed than that automatically negotiated.
The cable is suspect. I've purchased several cat 5e cables that simply won't allow me to connect at 1g. Try picking up a high quality cat 6 patch cable and see if that helps - they aren't that expensive and are available pretty much everywhere (target, wal-mart, and office depot carry them routinely)
I routinely connect to a Netgear GS605NA 10/100/1000 switch at 1g speeds with both my macbook pro and mac pro. Mac pro uses belkin cat 6 6' snagless patch cables, MAcbook pro is currently connected with a belkin 6' cat 5e cable.

  • Etherchannels from 3560 switch to 3 flexstacked 2960-S switches

    Hi All,
When running etherchannels (x6 in this instance) from a 3560 to a stack of flexstacked switches (in this case 3 2960-S) I have all the etherchannels going to the 1st switch in the stack, for example 1/0/1 - 1/0/6 interfaces.
Should I actually have two cables from the etherchannel group go to the 1st switch in the stack then  two more cables from the etherchannel group go to the 2nd switch in the stack and so on. I was thinking I don't need to as the stack is setup with full redundancy flexstack cables at 20gb I believe it is so spreading out the six etherchannel connections would be pointless?
    Any feedback much appreciated.
    Regards
    Dan

    I was wondering.
Now, a question you might ponder, is whether with your etherchannel of 6 and a stack of 3, whether you'll want 2 links to each 2960S or 3 links to two of them?  I don't really know, although Cisco does recommend for 3750s to not have uplinks on the master, if possible.

  • Ensure HA for servers on stacked Cisco 3750g Switches?

Please bear with me. I'm fairly new to the sys admin world. Though I have a grasp on Cisco Switch technology, the grasp is certainly not solid. I've been tasked by my IT director with finding a device-level redundancy plan for our critical systems. We have four stacked 3750g switches. How would I setup the technology so if the switch with the servers connected were to fail, the downtime would be minimized? Should I deploy a RPS2300? What about the supervisor engine? From what I understand, the supervisor engine is virtual when using stacked 3750s. Is server NIC teaming neceassary? Does the LACP protocol need to be considered? As you can see, I've got a lot of catching up to do. Ultimately, I need guidance so I'm not this plan in the wrong direction by confusing appropriate technologies.
    Thanks in advance.

You've already correctly identified some methods for HA with 3750s.
As you note, the stack provides "supervisor" redundancy, i.e. if stack master fails, another stack member will take over.  One thing to watch for, if your stack master is running IP Services, you'll want at least one other stack member to have that IOS installed (and licensed).
Regarding hosts, ideally if they support Etherchannel/Portchannel to the stack, you can have critical hosts connected to two different stack members, so if one path fails, connectivity isn't lost to the host.  For hosts that don't support that, or are not critical, you might have some "spare" VLAN ports in other stack members.  I.e. if a stack member fails, manually repatch such hosts to another stack member port.  (If fact, ideally, you might have one additional stack member already in the stack, so for such single connected hosts, downtime is the time it takes to repatch [then you work about replacing the failed stack member].)
On the power issue, the RPS would allow usage of a secondary power circuit and it also covers, I believe, failure of a stack member's A/C power supply (those don't fail too often, and if it does on a 3750G, you might need to replace the whole unit[?]).  However, the RPS doesn't handle loss of A/C power on both paths (and when it takes over, I also recall, you need to reload the stack to revert off it).  So, you might also want to consider UPS too (if other parts of the network might still be operational).  Depending how you implement UPS, you might not need an RPS, for example if each stack member had its own UPS and each UPS could be reconnected to another power line.
    PS:
For additional stability, if not already running it, 12.2(55)SE8 is considered, by many, as being very stable.
