Connecting 2 routers on same network ??!!

Hi
I cannot get this to work....
I have a modem downstairs connected to cable internet.
I needed extra coverage so I bought a linksys wrt120n to put upstairs.
It is connected directly to the modem downstairs via ethernet.
However I cant get them on the same network (or my clients at least)
I have given them the same SSID and tried various things but when connected to the linksys, sometimes i can't see the pc downstairs and sometimes I can !!!????
Please, can someone give clear and easy to follow steps on how to get everything on the same network ?????
Thanks....

The router needs to be on the same subnet as the main router. If the main router is 192.168.1.1, then the other router should be along 192.168.1.2-255. The other can't be the same as the main router's IP address for that matter. NAT needs to be disabled since it only applies for the main router. And if enabled, computers outside the NAT won't see each other. Once you have connected the other router to the main, you should be able to access the other router by typing the address 192.168.1.2, if that's the address you assigned to it.

  • ITunes Store down?  Cannot Connect, My girlfriend can - same network

Annoying, all day- my account can not connect-
iTunes help rep sent me a dead link, and said to call my ISP
    it's not my ISP
My girlfriend's account connects fine from within same network.
There is definitely a problem- it appears to be many accounts having probs from all over judging by the community reaction
I wish Mac had a better suuport system because the rep that helped me provided a dead link and told me it was my ISP
    It's not.

    Try this:
    1. Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off
    2. Set the date ahead by a few months
    3. You should then be able to connect to the store

  • Slow Internet on wired connection, fast wireless on same network

    Hi,
My Internet connection has just been upgraded from 2MB/s to 10MB/s. To confirm the upgrade I have used www.speedtest.net with Firefox 3.5.1 to test my upload/download speeds. I have 2 computers on my network which consists of a cable modem connected to a white airport base station with 128 bit WEP encryption in 802.11 b/g compatible mode. The 2 computers are a dual 2.8 ghz MacPro which is wired directly into the Airport base station by Ethernet and an iMac 1.83 Intel core 2 duo which connects wirelessly. Both machines are running OS X 10.5.7. The much faster MacPro only achieves a download speed of 5.7MB/s over its wired connection while the slower iMac achieves 9.8MB/s - very close to the advertised speed over its wireless connection. Both upload at the same 512kb speed. These are consistent speeds not one offs so I am wondering why the difference? The MacPro is my main machine so I'd like to have the best speed possible on that.
I have tried connecting the MacPro directly to the Cable Modem, bypassing the airport base station and get the same speeds.
Any ideas? What else can I try?
Thanks for reading all that, I've put in as many details as possible, I'm really stumped!
    Thanks in advance,
    Alan.

First, be sure you're not confusing "MB/s" (megabytes/sec) and "Mb/s" (megabits/sec). These will normally differ by (roughly) a factor of 10. The value of "9.8MB/s" over 802.11g is presumably actually "9.8Mb/s", as the higher value exceeds the maximum rate for that protocol.
Second, what type of Ethernet cable ("CAT-x") are you using? An older cable can cut your maximum data rate.
What speed do you see with the iMac if you connect it via Ethernet?

  • IMac not Connecting to Internet on Same Network MacBook Pro Can

so, my imac decided to quit connecting the other day. it had shut itself down while i was gone (i usually have it on sleep mode in the office, using the laptop in the living room). a router connects the two to a cable modem.
the connection, hardware, and cables are all fine, as evinced by the laptop working under its own and the imac's settings/cables. restarting the imac, changing cables, changing router ports, and resetting the router and modem hasn't done anything. i would say it's an internal hardware problem on the imac, but i don't know enough about computers to say definitively; and i'm also reluctant to accept that, as there's probably some setting that was changed by the latest update, explaining why the computer had been shut down.
any help troubleshooting and getting this baby back online would be appreciated.
    thanks

What does the Network Control Panel status tell you?
Have you run the Network Diagnostics? (I usually don't find it useful, but can rule out some things).

  • Can't connect to another Mac on the same network

    Hi All,
I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac, both connected to the same network.
When I try to access one using the other over wifi, using Finder, either it doesn't work (getting a "Connection failure" message"), or it takes several minutes and several retries. Once the connection is established the file transfer speed is very good, but it takes forever to establish a connection.
On the same network I have an iPhone, an iPDa, a PC. They all connect very fast, so I don't think it's a network issue... can anybpdy please help with this?

  • Apple Tv can't connect to iTunes when on same network through Airport Express

    Hello All,
Its very rare i need to resort to the community for help but this one has me in a corner.
I have a 2013 Airport Time Capsule (3TB not that it matters), and a 2nd Gen Airport Express, and 2 Apple TV's (3rd gens).
Time capsule in basement of a large home. I can connect to the time capsule with iPhone 6, 4s, iPad 4, macbook air (2013 model), MBP (2012), mostly without issue however from time to time the signal gets kind of weak and cuts off occasionally from the iPad. Slows down a bit for the phones also. Not a huge deal, this is why I bought the airport express.
The Apple TV's are in two bedrooms beside each other on the 2nd floor in my home (office and bedroom). The Airport Express i've tried in 3 different areas of the house (1- Main floor of home on top of fridge in kitchen, roughly 20 feet away from the time capsule through the floor, 2- Main floor at bottom of stairs heading up to 2nd floor and almost line of sight to doorways of the two bedrooms also 20 feet away from the time cause through the floor, 3- 2nd floor hardwired directly to one apple tv (2nd apple tv through double layer of drywall and 10 feet away.)
In any of these locations the Apple TV's randomly get this issue where they do not see my Mac Mini which is hardwired to the time capsule, and running iTunes with all my movies shows and music of course. It gives me an error "Apple TV cannot connect to (name of library) as it may not be on the same network, please ensure iTunes is updated to the most recent version, and ensure you have the latest updates for your apple tv."
On my MBP I was running Yosemite Dev Beta 8, which is fine if that doesn't work, but it did and still had this random issue.
On my Mac Mini i was still running Mavericks with current iTunes (11.4 i believe, now 12 beta).
I unplugged my airport Express from power, now everything is connecting to my time capsule and apple tv's stream fine mostly, however there are slow buffering issues and occasional wifi disconnects just due to 2 floors in-between and quite a distance also, among multiple wireless devices using the network.
My questions are (yea yea a novel i know),
1- If the airport express doesn't see any data going through it for a while, does it go into a sleep mode which might be causing this "iTunes not found" issue even though other devices are still able to see my shared library on my network?
2- If yes to above - how can i shut that off?
3- If no, then why is this happening?
Mac Mini specs, i5 2.5ghz, 16 gb ram, 120gb ssd, 500 gb hdd, 2 TB External USB 3 hdd, ethernet hardwired to time capsule.
Air Port Express is in extended network mode synced to the Time Capsule.
Other devices will connect fine to my iTunes library when the apple tv's will not.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks!

I have seen suggestions that bonjour goes into sleep mode.. but Apple offers no info and no controls so whether it does or not is irrelevant.
I am not clear what Time Capsule you have.. 2013 was the change over.. so is it AC tall one.. or previous model, flat one. The picture in the airport utility will show you.
Extend wireless is always a poor way to do things.. can you run some ethernet cabling to a point on the first floor where you could plug in an express.. if so that is the ideal.. if no, then using EOP (homeplug) adapters might work,, but they are not 100% guaranteed to work so make sure you know the return policy.
My experience is with the one extend wireless link that i do have .. it is fragile. Mostly it works.. but i have spent a deal of time making it work.
eg.. I use short names and different names for both bands.. so i can force the connection.. I set fixed channels.. I use the right firmware.. even so at certain times.. (full moon, strong North Wind.. you know typical wireless).. it will decide it won't work.
NOTE.. only airport utility v5 is of use to show link speeds and how things are going.. v6 airport utility (toyland fisher price version) has link status as poor, good or excellent.. which is to say the least.. uninformative.
so here is the link in v6 ..
    It says.. good.. yeah.. !!
And here is the info in v5 utility. It has a workmen utility feel to it with piles of info.
The link between the two routers is the top of the listing.. and tells me it is linked at 5ghz and is running at 60Mbps at both ends..
By trial and error I have found left to its own devices it will connect on 2.4ghz and will join at 6Mbps when it starts dropping out.. so by taking full manual control I can produce reasonable link speed and reasonable stability.. and in v5 utility I can tell what is going on.. none of this is easy or like it should work out of the box.

  • 2 routers on the same network

I have installed 2 Linksys routers type WRT160N and a WRT160Nv3. Both ar DHCP installed, channels are 1 & 10, IP adresses are divided so Linksys 1: 192.168.1.1 - 149 and Linksys 2 :192.168.1.150 - 200. If anybody have another idea please come forward. Many thanks in advance.

You are trying to cascade routers. There are 2 ways to cascade routers: LAN to WAN and LAN to LAN.
LAN to WAN is connecting the LAN connection of the Router 1 to the WAN port of the Router 2. [Use this if you want the computers to be on 2 different networks.]
LAN to LAN is connecting the LAN connection to one of the LAN ports of the Router 2. [Use this method if you want the computers to be on the same network]
The complete steps on how to do this is explained in this article, click here.

  • My ipad with retina display can't find my epson artisan 730 wireless printer. They are on the same network and printer's wireless connection is excellent. What are the steps to fix this?

My imac won't pick up the printer either. Even after I updated it's software.  My ipad is new.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No change. The printer still doesn't show up on my devices even though they are all on the same network.  On the printer's connection print out the connection reads Pass and that the network is working correctly.  However, then it states "*A router/access point channel conflict has been detected. If you have problems printing or scanning, Improve your wireless network environment." "*If the problems persist, see your documentation for help and networking tips."
I've gone through all the documentation and still can't figure out what the problem is.  I've had the router checked out by my building and they claim everything is in order.  I have a excellent signal.

Yes you can do all that without needing to keep plugging things in and out. You will still need to manually turn on the receiver and turn down the volume from the tv though.

  • How do I make a wired connection to my Airport Extreme that will share the same network as any wireless connection to it?

    Here's the set up.
I have a cable router into the house and then an Airport Extreme connected to it. Everything connects wirelessly to the Airport Extreme apart from one computer in the same room as it, which I wired into the AE with a cable (it's a gaming PC and has no wireless).
How can I get that wired machine to use the same network as all the other wireless devices? When I plug the cable into it, the gaming PC only picks up the network being created by the cable box which I don't use.

There is nothing stopping you connecting to the wireless computers if you have sharing turned on..
How can I get that wired machine to use the same network as all the other wireless devices? When I plug the cable into it, the gaming PC only picks up the network being created by the cable box which I don't use.
    I don't quite follow this..
If the cable modem is a router.. the AE must be in bridge mode..
So all routing is handled by the cable modem router.. and the wireless clients will all be in the same IP range as the PC is.. please check that by opening the PC command window and type ipconfig /all
Then go to one of the wireless devices and check that it also has the same IP range.. eg,, 192.168.x.x and same router or gateway address eg 192.168.1.1 and same DNS.. which is the same as the router address..
Then in the command window of the PC use the command ping to see if the other devices respond.. ping it by name or by IPaddress.
If there is no response.. windows has decided it is in a public network.. and slammed up the firewalls.. make sure your network is set as home for location.. and make sure the firewalls .. you can have multiple if you have an internet security  package are not blocking local network access.
Also remember PC and Mac in a network can take a bit of fiddling to see each other. But ping should always respond and in both directions.

  • Can't connect to computers on the same network and same office

Hi everyone, I have this problem from some time now, I have on the same network some computers with ethernet, and some with Wi-Fi.
All are connected to the C-Net Wireless-G Router.
My iBook is on the Wi-Fi zone (All have 10.4.11) and I can see the computers on the Ethernet area, but I have an iMac 2.0 next to my iBook and I can't see it.
How is that possible? Am I making something wrong with the subnet mask or IP address?
All are configured to use 192.168.1.254 as the router and on the subnet 255.255.255.0. Manually.
The IP variates from device to device on the 192.168.1.X numbers, starting with 100 on the iMac, and ending with 113 on an old 8600.
Wy can't I see the iMac?, si so close that I can reach her with my hands, but can't connect to transfer files over the network.
If anyone could give me a hand here, I will apprettiate the advice.
Thaks to everyone, Pablo from Argentina.

You are on a different subnet. In x.x.x.0 the x's are different.

Look at what ip addresses you have on each machine.
I have different IPs on each machine, do you need the numbers?

    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Network Utility.app
Use the ping command to see what is going on. Ping 192.168.1.254, source & destination machine. 127.0.0.1 is an alias of the machine you are on.

  • TS2235 Hi, how can I print from my IPAD to my wireless HP 6520 printer.  I have a wireless network and my IPAD and wireless printer are connected to the same network.  But when I send a job, I get the "no air printer found" message.

My windows firewall is disabled (protected by Comcast's Norton program) so that should not be a problem.  Should I down load Bonjour?

    Hello Bleedingblue65
Check out the section highlighted below to troubleshoot your issues printing through AirPrint.
    AirPrint Basics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found"
    Verify that the printer:
Has power and is turned on. If it has power, turn the printer off and then on again to see if that resolves the issue.
Is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the iOS device.
Has the latest firmware version installed.
Has paper with enough ink or toner installed.
Is free of any errors displayed on the printer's control panel.
If necessary, consult the printer documentation or contact the printer vendor for help with the above steps.
    Notes:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
Some Wi-Fi AirPrint printers can take several minutes to join a Wi-Fi network after being turned on. Ensure that the AirPrint printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network before attempting to print.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • IOS 5 used to allow Airplay between iPad (WiFi) and Apple TV (Ethernet) as long as they were on the same network. In iOS 6, now both the iPad and the Apple TV have to be on the same network and both have to be connected using WiFi ? Why did they change ?

iOS 5 used to allow Airplay between iPad (WiFi) and Apple TV (Ethernet) as long as they were on the same network, i.e. connected to the same wired/wireless router. In iOS 6, now both the iPad and the Apple TV have to be on the same network and both have to be connected using WiFi ? Why did they change this ? Means that the iPad and the Apple TV box both have to be in range of the wireless router when this wasn't a restriction before. Apple TV could be anywhere as long as it was connected to the same wireless router via ethernet cable. Seems like an unnecessary thing to restrict.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!
