Connecting 2 Thunderbolt displays to imac using bootcamp

Hello all and festive greetings!b
I bought an imac5 retina display yesterday and connected it normally and works perfect with my 2 thunderbolt displays either side.
I now tried to set up bootcamp (for work I can only use bootcamp due to my nature of work) and I can only seem to get one of the thunderbolts to work. The other is working fine, the sound actually comes out of it! But when I press Screen Resolution I can only see the imac and thunderbolt "1" display instead of having an option to add the third monitor.
Usually you have a desktop/laptop and add two monitors but because the imac is a computer that is a monitor too it makes it difficult to get around.
Thanks in advance for all your help
FWIW, I'm using windows 7 pro.

I am specifically interested if the TB monitors are connected to separate TB ports of the iMac or are daisy-chained? These two configurations work very differently.

  • Is there a workaround to using two thunderbolt displays on iMac running bootcamp?

is there a way to get two thunderbolt monitors to work using bootcamp on an iMac? If not, why is it not possible?

Not directly, I recommend contacting Elgato.com and see which of their products suits your needs. Apple doesn't put TV tuners in their computers, that is why you need an Elgato device.

  • Can I boot into a PC laptop on an iMac using Bootcamp through a eSATA to Thunderbolt connection?

Can I boot into a PC laptop on an iMac using Bootcamp through a eSATA to Thunderbolt connection?  Work forces you to use their computers, but it would be nice to use an iMac and extra displays while at home.

Set up a VNC connection between the computers.

I tightened all HD screws and it didn't help. With the machine running and side of the case off, I physically stopped both the video card fan and the front case fan with my finger for a couple seconds and the noise continued. I also took all hard drives out one by one and rebooted each time. Again, the noise continued until I took out the Mac HD in Bay 1, rebooted, and I had a very quiet, silent machine. The issue is the hard drive in bay 1 that shipped with the computer, it's without a doubt causing the hum/woosh sound. I still need to know if I can safely swap the Mac HD from bay 1 to bay 4 without any issues to the operating system. I would like to try that to see if it dampens the noise but I also want to make sure this swap won't screw up my machine at all.

  • Can I connect my thunderbolt display's power cable to supply power to the new retina display macbook pro?

I'm planning to buy a new retina display macbook pro, but I have a thunderbolt display and I use the display's power cable to supply the power to a macbook air. As the power connector on the new macbook pro is differet, It looks to me that I won't be able to connect it to the new computer. I'm I correct?

You'll just need this adapter, which you can buy or order with the computer:

You will only know about the hard drive when you try to access it in TDM from your other computer. If you cannot boot into TDM mode or if the drive does not appear on the new computer's Desktop then it is likely bad.
What you are thinking about as a recovery disk is the Recovery HD normally created when you install Lion or later on the computer. You boot from it as follows:
    Boot Using Command+R keys:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"COMMAND" and the "R" keys together.
      3. Release the keys when the Utilities Menu appears.

Two. You can daisy-chain two ATD together. Doesn't matter what you're running.

    Hello,
you don't need OS X install-disk, but I strongly recomend to burn a Win 7 disk. You may have some problems with installing it from a USB Flash :)
    Cheers!

  • Bootcamp, Windows7, Wireless Adapter permanently disabled when connected to Thunderbolt Display - Solved

    Info:
Laptop: 2014 Macbook Pro running Bootcamp (dual boot...not a VM) with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Network Adapter: Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter
Many thanks to chemnerd1's hints - saved me going mad.
My problem was that the wifi worked perfectly until connected to a Thunderbolt display - then the wifi was permanently disabled (nothing would enable it; changing driver, changing wifi channel, uninstalling and reinstalling wifi, nothing worked). As you can imagine I was very disapointed after spending a fortune on the Thunderbolt display (brilliant kit) and then finding that I maybe only have wired internet available!
Definately, Zone Alarm was the problem (maybe other firewalls cause the same /similar problem).
    My solution was to -
uninstalled Zone Alarm (safe mode not required)
reboot with Thunderbolt display connected (checked that wifi now working)
reinstall Zone Alarm (important that Thunderbolt display is still connected)
reboot - checked and wifi still working perfectly - wonderful
I have to confess that I was initially blaming Apple for the problem. I did loads of searches over several days to try and solve this and a lot of links ended with conclusions that Apple doesn't care. Well in this case it wasn't Apple's fault.

    Thanks for posting your solution.

  • MacBook Pro 13 Retina + Thunderbolt Display or iMac 27

I have a MacBook Pro 13 Retina and I would like to use it together with a larger screen.
When MacBook Pro 13 Retina is connected (via thunderbolt cable) to either a Thundebolt Display or an iMac 27(used just as a projector), is the image 100% identical, I mean exactly the same? I ask because the small menu letters in apps like Lightroom and Photoshop tend to be rendered differently on different resolutions and different devices.

Thank you for your response, I will definitely way that option more heavily. I was hoping to be able to accommodate the 13" form factor. As a student I bring my computer everywhere so the smaller size would have been nice.
    I
f I may waste a tad more of your time, is the reason behind the GPU and quad core because of photoshop or the 27" monitor in general? The only reason I ask is that I am only a casual photoshop user so that alone may not sway me, but if powering the thunderbolt display is of a concern for the lesser device then the decision becomes much easier.
Sorry to ask so many questions, I know a decent about computers but I am not too familiar with the thunderbolt adaptor and as such am not sure how that interacts with the GPU and such.
    Thanks again!
