Connecting 2 TVs to HDMI port on FIOS HD cable box

I want to connect two HD TVs to a single FIOS HD Set Top Box (STB) that has one HDMI output.  The two TVs will be back to back across a wall between our family room and kitchen so cable distances for the **bleep**hest TV will be ~15'.  I realize both TVs wouldl have to "watch" the same channel selected on the STB.  Can I just use a passive HDMI "splitter" like this one: http://www.cablesunlimited.com/products/Prod_Individual3.aspx?groupcode=I3587 ? Would an active splitter like this: http://www.cablesunlimited.com/products/Prod_Individual3.aspx?groupcode=I3605 offer any advantage for my situation?  Any help will be appreciated.

I would be wary of the passive splitter as it doesn't list HDCP compliance.  This may cause the handshake between the STB and TV to fail if 2 sets try to respond to the handshake request.  The active splitter lists compliance but is quite expensive at $159.
As for the use of component cables (red / blue / green RCA jacks), that will still give full HD resolution but require a separate audio connection.  All the outputs on the HD STBs are active simultaneously so no additional hardware besides the cables would be required.  Many people feel there is little or no difference between HDMI and component. It would be cheaper to at least try component cables first as they can be had fairly inexpensively from monoprice.com (have used their HDMI and component cables with excellent results).
The ultimate choice depends on what you, the viewer, feel is best.

  • Can I Hook an Apple TV to an older TV that does not have HDMI Ports using a connector cable

I have an older Sony HD TV and would like to hook my Apple TV to that TV but it does not have HDMI Ports.  Can I hook my Apple TV to this TV through a cable adapter that converts HDMI to Component Video and Audio (Red Green Blue Video Cables, Yellow White Audio) or HDMI to S-Video.  I have both these connections on my TV.  Thanks

Thanks, I actually meant a converter box I just wanted to make sure that using that would work.  With Amazon FireTV Sticks for example I  jhave been told that only a direct HDMI connection to the TV would allow the device to work at all.

  • Connecting a 23 inch monitor to comcast HD cable box

    Hi folks
I just got a 23 inch monitor and I am interested to know if anyone has used the display to output video from a cable box. I have a female DVI to HDMI connector and the cable box has an HDMI port. Is there anything else I should worry about?
    thanks!
12 inch powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   23 inch apple display

I have not tried this myself with my 20" cinema display but when I tried it with a viewsonic monitor I had problems with the Digital Copy Protection system they use on the HDMI/DVI ports on the cable boxes to prevent people from copying the video. I do not know if the Apple display has HDCP support or not. If it does it should work fine, otherwise your get an error message on the screen telling you there is a DCP error. Either way if you already have the cables give it a try it won't hurt your monitot. Note that if you get a DCP error (or no display) when you connect the HDMI cable restart the cable box with the monitor attached to see if that works.

  • Satellite A200-1AX: How to connect to the HDMI port of TV

    Hi,
I own A200-1AX (PSAE6E) laptop, with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600. The video card has hardware support of high definition audio and video, but there is NO HDMI connector. I want to know, if there is any way to connect the laptop to the HDMI Input of the TV?
    Thanks!

Yes it is very stupid situation but you must understand that every notebook manufacturer offer notebook with different hardware platform and different ports. Because of that it is very important to pick up info about all possibilities how to use the notebook with external devices.
    Anyway bye and good luck.

  • How to mirror iMac screen wirelessly through a mac mini connected to an hdmi port of HD TV?

I have a new Mac Mini connected to a Sony HD TV. On the same network but in a different room I have my iMac. I can control the iMac with wireless mouse and keyboard from the same room where the TV and Mac Mini reside. I would like to work on my iMac but use the HD TV as my monitor so I can show slideshows and iMovie projects without transferring files to the MacMini first. Is it possible, and if so, how do I go about setting it up?

Your iMac likely supports a higher resolution than the TV does. The maximum standard TVs today use is 1920x1080, and if your iMac is an Intel Core i3 or i5, its own display is at least that high of a resolution. Which model of iMac do you have?
If your iMac is running at least Leopard (10.5), then both machines have Screen Sharing built in. It can be accessed from the Finder, but as often as you would like to use it you should go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices and drag it (the icon) to your Dock. That will create the shortcut to get to it easily. As I noted before, the built in Screen Sharing VNC software doesn't do full screen, but third party VNC software can. Both machines do not need to be using the thrid party VNC software, just the one viewing - in this case your Mac mini. Chicken of the VNC is a popular free one, fairly easy to use:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
For more info about how to set up Screen Sharing and how to use the included application:
    http://mac.appstorm.net/how-to/os-x/using-screen-sharing-in-os-x-leopard/
Note that you will have to use the settings in System Preferences, regardless of what VNC software you use. Both systems will need to have Screen Sharing settings enabled.

  • I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
?Is there any Apple TV HDMI port voltage?
When using a HDMI auto switch to connect two devices to a HDMI TV, the
Auto switch cable box only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.
Do you know of any other solutions? Componets? Actual expierances?
    Full text below.
Cable : HDMI switches expand the number of available HDMI ports on a high definition television allowing connection of cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and game consoles. A side benefit is that cable clutter is also eliminated by running a single HDMI cable to your HDTV from a switch and relocating the HDMI ports to a concealed location. The problem with most HDMI switches is that you have to either get up to push a button, or hunt for the remote control, to switch sources. The true mark of any great switching component is an ability to perform its function and remain transparent in its operation. This automatic HDMI switch is a plug-and-play away from offering everything you are looking for in an HDMI switch. Select a single output from up to three devices for signal delivery to your HDTV. Smart operation provides complete control for connect-and-forget operation. Powering on a device gives it output priority over the other devices. By powering down the device in use, output priority is returned to the last powered on device. Note: Auto switch function only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.

  • Portege R930 - BSOD when connecting high resolution monitor to HDMI port

    Hello.
I have the Portege R930 (pt331a-01w001) running window 7. Everything on the laptop works as expected, however when I plug the laptop into a high resolution monitor (2560x1440) via the HDMI port I get blue screen of death.
I can use the HDMI port to connect to my 1080p LCD TV and my work monitor which is a lower resolution and it works ok.
I have tried multiple cables and different monitors of the same resolution.
    Can anyone assist?

    Hello,
Yes that is correct. When my laptop is connected to a monitor with a lower resolution that 2560x1440 (such as my work monitor (1680x1050) or my TV (1080p)) everything works as expected.
Once I plug it into the 2560x1440 monitor I get BSOD.
The monitor only has a DVI-D Dual link port, so I am using a HDMI to DVI-D Dual link cable to connect the laptop HDMI port to the monitor.
I was getting this fault with the original display driver (not sure of the version), I then updated to the Toshiba driver (v8.15.10.2712) and also tried the Intel Driver (9.17.10.2932) and still get the same problem.

  • HDMI port of my MBPr showing under scan on monitor

    Dear all,
At my mothers' place I connected my MBPr with the television. Te make the visuals better, I slides the bar for a little under scan. I connected using the HDMI port on the laptop.
Back at home, when I connect to my external display with my HDMI port, it is again under scanning (I am seeing black borders around the screen). I cannot change this on the monitor itself. BUT when I connect using my thunderbolt port, I do not see the under scanning.
    Some things:
I tried replacing the window server.plist with an older version, one before I got to my mothers' place, but that didn't work
I also got back to my mothers' place, changed the under scan in the settings when connected to the TV, but back at home it is still underscanning
The resolution in the display settings is good, I checked.
So is there any way to get this fixed. It is really annoying to keep using the thunderbolt port when I have an HDMI port.
    Many thanks!!

  • HT204400 I get no audio from this device.  All my HDMI ports are in use with the cable box, DVR and receiver .  My digital optical cable is also in use to the receiver.  Is there a solution?

I cannot get audio using this device all my HDMI ports are in use as well as my digital optical cable.  Any solutions?

How exactly is the ATV connected if all HDMI ports are in use?
If connected directly to the TV, then audio is being sent to the TV speakers, not the receiver.

  • Xorg.conf for laptops with 2 vga controllers and an hdmi port

    Hi
I installed arch on my laptop and was quite happy that it worked so easily. The only problem at the moment is that the display connected to the hdmi port isn't detected. For example running from the gnome control centre the display applet then 'detect' only detects the laptop display, even though there is a 2nd monitor connected to the laptop via the HDMI port. I suspect that the problem is xrandr is not detecting the monitor connected to the HDMI port. How can I fix this?

Curious how well you got this working (and working with the nvidia driver). I have the same issue, and got it working using the intel and nouveau drivers. However, I am unable to drag windows to the second screen, use desktop effects, or modify the layout with xrandr. I tried installing the nvidia driver alongside the intel one, however there is a conflict between nvidia-utils and libgl that won't allow that.

    Hello Apple community,
I was wondering.. I'm about to purchase an Apple TV soon and was wondering if anyone has any input or suggestions as far as HDMI hubs are concerned. I've googled some info but yet still uncertain on how to go about doing this.. what to get, what to plug in the primary (TV)... Apple TV and Cable leaving the DVD player to go thru a hub or other combinations.
I know the price ranges from $25 - $400 for a hub. I mean are they worth it?
    Is AppleTv worth it?
Thank you for reading this and taking the time to reply with your suggestions.

If so could you change the last bit to be:

While TVs often don't relay digital audio over say an optical out (copy protection), many TVs will output the analogue audio for whatever source is selected.
