Connecting 2 two devices at simultaneously?

Is it possible to connect the mac mini, simultaneously to an HD lcd TV and an Svideo projector?.
Currently, I am using teh adapter to connect to the projector via Svideo and the TV via composite video, but I really want to take advantage of the HDMI port on the TV.
any ideas?

This question comes up in various guises quite often, and basically the answer is that at least without further 'intelligent' switching hardware or active video splitters, the only way you can hope to split the mini's output to two devices is if both those devices are set at the same resolution and do not create a signaling conflict when they communicate their identity to the system.
As such, it's very unlikely that a simple splitter would work, and the potential devices that might help are fairly expensive.
There has been talk recently of USB-based video output devices also, and such a thing would perhaps provide you with a viable alternative since that would give you two independent video outputs, but I don't think such a device has actually appeared on the market for MacOS users, complete with proven drivers, despite a number of companies promising such products in the near future.
You are certainly right I think to be interested in connecting to your TV using HDMI if that's available rather than composite. In my experience composite gives a very fuzzy picture in terms of MacOS output, though it's not so bad for DVD playback and FrontRow. HDMI, where the TV correctly supports it, is capable of much better quality at hi def.

If you have iTunes 11 on your Mac then you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S, that might make it easier to navigate.
Connect the phone to your Mac and select it on that left-hand sidebar, and on the right-hand side of the screen there should be a series of tabs which you can use to select what to sync to the phone. If it's an audiobook then it should appear on the Books tab for selecting/syncing, and films will be on the Movies tab. When you've got the audiobook on your phone you should get an Audiobooks option in the Music app (you might need to tap the '...' tab at the bottom of the Music app to see it).

  • Connect to two wireless networks simultaneously

    Here's the scenario:
I would like to have my airport express connect to my stereo and I'd like to have my mac connect to that via air tunes while at the same time connecting to a time capsule or other wireless router for internet use and have them both operating simultaneously. So that means playing music and using the internet and having both networks active.
    Wouldn't that be cool?
I'd also like to have both my powerbook and my macbook doing that at the same time but they won't of course be sending to the airtunes setup at the same time.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
    thx

You can. You just need to reconfigure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to "join an existing wireless network" as a wireless client.
    Here's how ...
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing Time Capsule's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Connect to two AE's simultaneously ?

Is there a way to broadcast itunes to one AE whilst using another to connect to the internet. Bit frustrated that I only seem to have a choice of either or. Due to the layout of my house and the fact that I want to have a wireless network I don't want a long cable stretched around the rooms. Is this something Leopard will be able to do?

You didn't have to use WDS, the remote Airport Express (the one connected to the speakers) could have been configured in client mode.
    What is client mode?

  • Re: Is is possible to form an adhoc connection between two devices?

    Hi,
Yes it is possible to discover devices and establish communication between devices through bluetooth. There are some J2ME devices that supports Bluetooth(JSR 82).
Check the latest devices that supports JSR 82.

  • Connect to two routers at same time?

I connect to internet throught router #1
Set up time capsule as stand alone (i.e. did not join network on router #1).  Let's call time capsule router #2
When I look at my wifi, I have to join router #1 and get internet access, and no access to files on time capsule OR join router #2 with access to files, but no internet access.
Any way to join both networks (routers) at the same time?
I know, I could set up time capsule to join the netwrk on router #1, but as stand alone, file transfer is faster.
    Thanks.

It is not possible for the AirPort networking feature of your Mac to be connected to two wifi networks simultaneously.
If you're going to use the Time Capsule for backup only, you're probably better off buying a FireWire hard drive since that will be much faster than any wifi-based backup device.
Alternatively, connect your Time Capsule to "router #1" with an ethernet cable and then you can use it both for your wifi connection and backups.
If you don't need to use "router #1" then just use the Time Capsule - it's a very good router and wifi hub.

  • How many devices can I connect over USB to Configurator simultaneously

    Hi,
I am looking for confirmation (preferably from Apple!) as to how many iOS devices can be connected via USB to Configurator simultaneously?
There is one document from Apple which states 30 devices is the limit but we use carts with many more than this which Configurator appears to handle fine. You can also buy carts which accept more than 30 devices from the Apple Education Store.
What I really need is an official document stating the limit or some feedback from you guys on your experiences with Configurator and high numbers of devices!
Any help would, of course, be appreciated
    Thanks.

Depends on your USB hardware....I have had two Bretford 30 unit carts running and while slow will work...Actually in our last deployment I went back to one MacBook Air AC station per 30 cart (4-5 carts per building) as the timing worked out better with temp workers and workflow....

  • When our iPad is in use on the internet, my iMac internet connection goes off. I can't get the two devices to work at the same time with the AirPort Express. Is there a setting somewhere I may have missed?

When our iPad is in use on the internet, my iMac internet connection goes off. I can't get the two devices to work at the same time with the AirPort Express. Is there a setting somewhere I may have missed?

When two or more devices conflict it typically means that the DHCP service is either misconfigured or is not running at all. DHCP provides IP addresses to local network clients.
Is your AirPort Express base station the only router in your current network configuration? That is, is it connected directly to an Internet modem and not to another router upstream of it?

  • OK to connect a firewire device to two computers?

Is it OK to connect a firewire device to two computers? I have a DVD burner sitting between two computers that I have been connecting to each of the computers, but it just occurred that it might be OK to connect it to both of them at once. What about connecting a firewire hard drive to two computers at once?

    John Link wrote:
I'm actually more interested in connecting a DVD burner with two firewire ports to two computers. Is this connection possible?
It might be possible, at least from a connection standpoint the Firewire standard is such that doing so won't create any smoke and sparks. I don't see any harm in trying as long as you've taken precautions to back up your important data, which you ought to do anyway.
Roxio Toast has a feature that enables you to share a burner across a network. That might be more in line with what you want to accomplish. This excerpt is from Toast Titanium:
The ToastAnywhere feature helps you share CD, DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray recorders across a network or the Internet with other users. An entire office or home network can use a single recorder.
Toast Titanium doesn't address sharing a burner over FireWire. Perhaps for that you'll have to wait for Toast ReardenMetal.

  • Can one external drive be connected to two USB devices?

I am wondering if I can connect an external HDD to the AE USB port so its on the nextwork and also connect it via firewire or USB to an HD 1080 Media player (connect to TV). Or is this going to cause problems if I do this at the same time?
    Thanks for any help!

Or is this going to cause problems if I do this at the same time?
Yes. A hard drive shouldn't be connected to two or more controllers at the same time unless it's specifically designed for that, which few drives are. A controller is a computer, AirPort Base Station, that media player, or anything else which attempts to access the drive directly.

  • Syncronization: How can i store mail for different accounts remotely, and copy most important mails manually to local folders on two devices?

Hello. I have two devices and two accounts, so what i want is this:
I only want to store mail from both accounts in a remote place and copy most important mails to local folders.
(I will be grateful for any ideas as to where/how this "cloud" can be - specially free places)
    * Can I have a copy of these local folders in both devices and the remote storage?
    * Could i synchronize devices so that: when i move a mail to a local folder in any device, its copied to the same folders in
the other device and the remote storage place?
    * The remote storage place will have many other folders. When I open Thunderbird, I also want to see these and the mail
inside, and also be able to move mail from the inbox to these folders.
    * One of the accounts is gmail. In Account Setting tool, there is an option for synchronization. If there is no easier way, I can have mail for other account copied to gmail, and just syncronize gmail mail. For this, how will I copy my present folder structure to gmail. And how can I syncronize the local folders on the two devices?
    Thanks in advance.

The first awkwardness I see is that there's no obvious format in which to store messages remotely such that you can work with them in an email client. It may be possible to set the "Local Directory" option in the account in Thunderbird to point at some remote folder (DropBox comes to mind) but I have never tried this and I'd be nervous about what happens if connection can't be made, or if you happened to access it from two different places simultaneously. The other concern is that mail stores get big, quickly, and you'd be forever uploading and downloading large (multi gigabyte) files. Thunderbird stores what looks like a folder containing many separate messages as one big file, so there's no simple opportunity for incremental changes to be up/down loaded.
The whole idea of Local Folders in Thunderbird is to detach messages from servers, so they don't track what happens on servers. I say this to point out the distinction between files stored locally and permanently ("Local Folders"), versus cached copies of online files ("synchronized"). It's not safe to regard your synchronized folders as permanent.
So, synchronized folders on an IMAP server are "mirrored" in Thunderbird so you do have a local (albeit temporary and transient) copy of messages; this is done mainly to avoid repeatedly downloading messages if you re-read them, and it makes searching faster an more efficient. But these "synchronized" message track what's being done on the server, and so if they are deleted anywhere, all synchronized devices will at some point also see the deleted messages vanishing. (Unless you made a local copy in the Local Folders account.)
I use a gmail account pretty much as you have described; I copy or move messages to that account so they are visible in my phone, my tablet, my own laptop and my works computer. It's free, and it's "in the cloud"; the only reservation I have is its privacy. There are other providers (e.g. 1&1/gmx) who don't seem to have the data collection fetish that google thrives on.
It's fairly simple to create filters in Thunderbird to automatically copy messages to your "cloud account"; even better is to set up forwarding rules on the other accounts' servers, so your messages are automatically sent on and waiting for you when you next login, already in the cloud account.

  • Connecting to two networks at the same time

    Hi Kadin,
I am looking for the same answer for a long time. I have two situations that requires to connect to two different metworks and that is when I travel with my portable Linksys router WRT54GC .
    1. I stay at a hotel with a wireless Internet network connection and I try to use the network to access the Internet and then (2) I also need to access my external Maxtor harddrive to which I am connected through my portable router WRT54GC .
    2. I have an almost identical situation but instead of the hotel network now I have a brand new T-Mobil cell phone made by ITC, which is called Wings and it uses a new way to connect my laptop to the Internet by using a Windows Mobile 6 Internet-share connection, which basically connects my laptop to the T-Mobile network and assigns it a IP address.
The problem that I have is that in both cases I can connect to each one of the networks separately but not simultaneously.
Any advise as to how this can be done. I also tried the Wireless WET54G as a bridge with similar negative results.
    Thanks,
    Pole

Ok not real clear on your setup, but here is the "networking answer" why you can not connect to two networks.
A device must have an IP address on the same subnet of the device you want to establish a connection or an IP route must be known to the network routers, since your internal address are most likely in the reserved private range, no internet router is not going to know how to deliver the packets to the correct hosts.
the simple answer is assign a secondary IP address to the network adapter on your laptop.
In the windows IP address properties for secondary address you can not set a default gateway. Windows only has 1 default gateway.
    good luck
