Connecting 24" LED external display - does it half my Vram ?
Hello,
I just got my 17" 2,9 and 24" LED today and I connected both. I use both displays so I have my labtop open all the time, but someone told me that if I have my macbook lid open it will share the VRAM of my graphics card between the two displays and pretty much decrease the performance a lot.
I read through both the display and mbp manual but there is no documentation about this !?
Any experience about this is greatly appreciated !

I just bought the new 17" Macbook Pro along with the new 23" LED display and have noticed that when the two are running together, meaning the macbook pro's display lid is open, (oh, and I'm not connected with power but rather using the battery) I get glitches. The volume stops all of a sudden and I lose any Apple command functions. (i.e. force quit, system preferences, shut down, etc...) Also when watching streaming video on Fox.com after 20 minutes or so Safari just quits. Could all these occurrences be related to the graphics card issue and the additional use of vram?

The correct adapter should have a female Mini DisplayPort connector, not male. You could buy the correct adapter or you could add a F-F Mini DisplayPort coupler

Connecting to an external display using the setting optimised for built in screen?
i am having trouble connecting to an external display with the lid closed and the settings is optimised for built in display.
it was working nicely until yesterday when i changed the resolution.
and now i cant take it to optimised for built in display, only if the lid is opened and i want it closed.

I got the following message after the crash, it happens a few times a day, my system is the base with 16gb ram late 2013 15" macbook pro retina. it only happens when i am connected to an external display, I do have a converter from vga to displayport. also, i run 4 different browsers in incognito mode as i do web testing and also have about 30 tabs open and excel and a few other apps open, not sure if this is what makes it happen or if it is the external display? it is under warranty, so if you see anything below that may relate to the hardware i can bring it in and get it fixed.

I have a macbook connected to LED cinema display. The display started to flicker. The display turns black for a second or two. Sometimes I restart macbook and display. Sometimes it helps.
same issue, either your wiring or display itself is going bad. for me, it was the display but luckily still under warranty

Hello guys, after searching a lot in the forum for an answer to this, I could not find a solution so this is the reason for this post.
I have a Macbook Pro (early 2011 I think) running MacOSX Lion and I have installed Windows 7 64-bit through bootcamp (version 4.0).
Everything works fine except that I cannot connect my external display through my thunderbolt-vga adapter.
The external monitor shows only the boot screen of windows (the one with the windows logo) and then, when I get into the login page it goes blank.
After reading the forum, I have done several things in order to fix this problem such as:
Restarting the macbook with the thunderbolt device connected to it.
Updated to the latest ATI drivers through bootcamp.
Removed the graphics driver and re-install it again.
I have tried to identify the external monitor through windows 'screen resolution' tool (attached photo).
but still no luck.
Does anyone have any idea on what else I could do in order to fix this? By the way, I find it very frustrating that Apple does not have a stable solution to the problem with devices that are connected to the thunderbolt port.

i've got a macbook pro and a Medion extra display.
i bought a adapter and all, It worked. but now after I unplugged it for teh 5th time or so, the mac stopped reacting on the display and conversely.

My Macbook Pro (Mid-2012) won't connect to an external display using my MiniDP to VGA Cable.
I'm on a Macbook Pro (Mid-2012) on Mac OS X 10.8.3 (currently downloading the update to 8.4). When I plug in my Mini Displayport to VGA adapter to my Mac, the screen flickers blue for a second and the Display Settings window detects the other monitor and allows me to rearrange the screen, but it does not project anything onto the other monitor. However, I tried connecting an Apple Thunderbolt Monitor to this computer today, and it worked. This wasn't a problem before, as I was able to connect this Mac to other LCD projects before. Furthermore, I don't think it's an issue with the adapter either because it's relatively new. I also tried plugging in the adapter of another Mac (which was working fine) into my Mac, but it didn't work either.
Here's what I've tried:
1. Restarting the computer with everything plugged in
2. Pressing Command + F1 when it's plugged

Connecting MacBook through external display in Windows Boot Camp partition
Hello everyone! I recently installed Windows Vista Home Premium on my MacBook 320GB. My Mac Partition of the drive works perfect, and connects through Mini DVI-Video through composite cables and into my T.V. When I tried this in Windows, I had no luck whatsoever. yes, all the drivers are installed for my chipset, processor, keyboard, etc. Windows is updated as well through Microsoft, But not through the Apple Software Update because the download failed again to the Boot Camp update. How do I connect an external display(ex. Projector, T.V., anything that has composite input)? Yes, I know some of you will say, "Your first mistake was buying Vista", but thats not the problem here. Windows Vista works perfectly. When you connect an external display, it re-adjusts its screen resolution but does not appear on the external monitor. Is the Boot Camp Update the solution? Please Help!!!

-ChristianI am using Vista on Macbook and when I connect my PC to my TV, lot of times, it hangs on me and a blue screen shows up with some errors and then it shut downs. I atleast do this 2-3 times and then finally it gets connected but there has to be a way where we can easily connect to TV without any issues. Any help guys?

How many external displays does the 15 inch support?
I spend 90% of my time at a desk developing, using multiple monitors. My current Windows system can support up to 4 displays, normally I run with 3. I was wondering how many external displays one can hook up to the 2.3GHz Macbook Pro. I need at least 3 displays while still having a thunderbold for external drives and eithernet. Does the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter allow splitting the single to two different monitors? Other then the Thunderbolt display, is there a way to get multiple monitors out of one Thunderbolt port?
From http://support.apple.com/kb/SP690 -> "Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors".
But there may be ways of driving three monitors - maybe someone with a Retina Display model will jump in. I know that on my 15" 2011 model, I can only drive two Apple Thunderbolt Displays.

Hi, Is it possible to have the X250 drive 3 external displays using the dock? Can I just connect all three of the external monitors directly to the dock or do I have to daisy chain the monitors using display port?I do not intend to use the laptop lcd while the machine is docked. Thanks
This is really disappointing. Lenovo is explicitly advertising that T420 is capable of quad-display setup using only digital connections. I hope it can be fixed with a driver patch but seems very unlikely.

My home wifi connects ok but consistantly disconnects requiring the user to go into settings, wifi, and reconnect. Very annoying. Any ideas on what causes this?
