Connecting 2950 to existing LAN

I recently purchased a WS-C2950T-24 to add to my existing network. I have mirrored the configuration of other 2950 switches in other offices (with exception of name and subnet info that differs between sites). The existing LAN in this office is comprised of 4 cisco WS-C2924-XL switches. I can connect to all 4 of the 2924 switches but not to the 2950. Any known issues of talking between the two different types of switches?

Its not a good practice to enable portfast on all the interfaces. It should be done only when the connection is terminated to an end host.
I think your problem is because of the trunk between the 2924XL and the 2950. The 2924 switch supports both dot1q and ISL trunk encapsulation whereas the 2950 supports only dot1q
try this
on the 2924XL port connecting to 2950
interface fa 0/24
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
on the 2950 port conencting to 2924XL
interface fa 0/24
switchport mode trunk

  • Creating a LAN within an existing LAN using a spare router?

My other option is to use my phone as personal hotspot and use it's internet. Would that work?

Hello,I would like to set up a personal lab environment within an existing LAN that has router(s), switches, server, etc(basically the whole deal). That LAN operates on one IP subnet 192.168.100.0/24(I'm not sure, but I think DHCP for that subnet is running on the router which is the default gateway to the Internet.)
I have a spare router here. May I plug that router into the switch under my desk that connects to the 192.168.100.0/24 LAN and configure my spare router like so that it has its own LAN behind it such as 192.168.99.0/24 or 10.1.10.0/whatever, have that router think that the 192.168.100.0/24 subnet is actually the Internet access, and have a DHCP server running on my spare router that specifically servers my subnet only, not the outside 192.168.100.0/24 network. Then I will set up my own domain controller(s), file servers,...

  • Problems coonecting a BESFR41 to an existing LAN

    Here is the scenario.
Mobil application that is travelling from business to business providing a service.
The applications creators used the BESFR41 as the switch inside the application vehicle to communicate with the businesses it visits.
Before any suggestions are made, I cannot change anything in the application vehicle because it is not under my control and also the driver and the business owner of the application are clueless as to how the system is actually setup. The owner used a third party to assemble 5 of these vehicles.
I am currently unable to even detect the BESFR41 MAC on the network side and the application cannot aquire the network address from my LAN, yet if I take one of my laptops out to the application vehicle and plug in to the BESFR41, I can connect to my LAN??
So far I am the only business that the vehicle cannot communicate with so the owner is not compeled to work on this any further then it works or it doesn't.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

If you are trying to connect the BEFSR41 router to another LAN you should know the Default IP Address of the DHCP Enabled Device on the existing LAN...
Once you have the information, you can connect the existing LAN to either the Ethernet Port of the WAN/Internet Port on the Linksys router...How would you like to configure it...

User gets "This network connection does not exist" when she tryes to log on to Terminal Server (2008 R2)
I got more than 100 users. Shes the only one getting is. We tried four computers (All Windows 7 Pro)
Nothing useful in event viewer to mention.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Does that user able to login previously?
From your comment, it seems that there is some permission issue with that user. As you have checked that user with different system also. Please check that user is added under “Remote Desktop User” local group and also allowed “Allow log on through
Remote Desktop service” permission under group policy. Also please check that when user tries to login it uses “Domainname\Username” format.
In addition for a try, also check by disabling firewall on one particular system.
To add users and groups to the Remote Desktop Users group by using Local Users and Groups snap-in:
    1.  Click Start > Administrative Tools, Open Computer Management.
    2.  In the console tree, click the Local Users and Groups node.
    3.  In the details pane, double-click the Groups folder.
    4.  Double-click Remote Desktop Users, and then click
    Add.
    5.  In the Select Users dialog box, click Locations to specify the search location.
    6.  Click Object Types to specify the types of objects you want to search for.
    7.  Type the name you want to add in the Enter the object names to select (examples) box.
    8.  Click Check Names.
When the name is located, click OK.

You probably can, but this type of configuration is not recommended or supported by Apple.
Two cautions if you want to try this:
    1)  The Time Capsule has to be configured to "Join" your existing wireless network in this type of setup...and to do that, you must know the exact type of wireless security that your network is using.
    2)  Backups are likely going to take twice as long. The wireless signal must travel from your computer to the wireless router and then from the wireless router back to the Time Capsule.  Two "hops"......even if the computer is located close to the Time Capsule.
If you want to try this, we can tell you how....but with no guarantees on your results....since this is not officially supported.

  • Can't connect AE to existing wireless network

I can't get my AE to connect to my existing wireless network. I saw the other thread on this and followed those steps, but it didn't work. Here's what I did:
    1. Connected the AE to my D-Link DIR-655 wireless router via ethernet cable.
    2. Opened Airport Utility and established a connection to the AE.
    3. Renamed the AE and entered a password.
    4. In the "wireless" tab, I selected "join existing network", chose my wireless network, selected the security type (WPA Personal) and entered the password.
    5. In the "music" tab, I named the speakers and entered a password.
So far so good. I clicked "update" and the AE restarted. After a while I received an error message informing me that the base station could no longer be detected. According to the directions posted in the other thread, this is actually supposed to be a sign that the AE is now in client mode and all is well.
I unplugged the ethernet cable from the AE and router and then went to the other room. I plugged the AE into the speakers and then plugged the AE into the wall.
However, instead of a green light all I have is a flashing amber light, even after several minutes. No connection.
I reset the AE and repeated the steps above, to no avail. Still a flashing amber light.
    Any ideas?

I'm having a similar issue. My AE is connected directly to a Netgear WGR614v4 router, and I run through all the steps you mentioned. When I choose to update the settings to the AE, I get the same "error" you mentioned about the AE not being found, and I also took that as a sign that I'm in client mode. I moved the AE to the other room, connected my mini cable to the stereo, then plugged the AE back into the wall. The AE runs through its setup and eventually gets a solid green light, so I'm thinking all is well.
The problem is that I then log back into the AirPort Utility on my laptop and the AE is not shown in the top left like it should be. After doing a bit of reading, I've figured out that I can manually find it by going to File>Configure Other and entering the AE's IP address and password. Then I get a window showing the details of the AE, its name, network, encryption, etc. However, if I close this window, it still doesn't show up in the main AirPort Utility screen and I'm not sure how to configure it for AirTunes.
Hoping that's just a bug with the AirPort Utility software, I open up iTunes to see if I can locate it there. I know I should see a pulldown menu at the bottom of iTunes that gives me an option for AE as my audio output method, but the menu is not there. Now I'm completely stuck.
At this point I decide to start from scratch, so I do a Factory Default reset by pressing down the reset button on the AE as I plug it into the wall. Now it is supposedly reset, so I plug it back into my router, then it runs through a setup sequence and lights up solid green before I've even done anything. It shows up in AirPort Utility with a default base station ID, but my computer won't connect to it at all. I'm hoping I can try to reset it again this evening and at least get back to the normal setup screen, but I'm really not sure what I could do differently at this point.
This is frustrating and I'm on the verge of giving up, but I REALLY want this to work out.

  • Connecting to an Existing Database

    Hi everyone,
I want to connect to an existing MS SQL database with Flex. Granted, I know that you can not directly connect to a database in Flex. But, does anyone have an example or can point to an example where someone connects to an existing MS SQl database regardless of what back end technology it is(preferably ASP.Net) and actually manipulating that data with charts. Or if anyone can create a connection with AdventureWorks sample or any sample database from MS SQL server and showing how they also manipulate that data with charts.
    Best regards,

  • Connect TimeCapsule to existing network

My parents have an old G5 iMac with no airport built in.
They do have a Time Capsule (connected with ethernet to their computer) with which they like to connect to an existing wireless network (different modem/router).
The iMac and modem cannot be connected via ethernet; they are too far apart. I tried to let TC 'connect to existing network' but that was not an option.
    I only saw:
    - create new network
    - expand existing network.
If I choose the expand option, it finds several networks from the neighboarhood, but not their own. (The network does works wirelessly - I have no troubel connecting to it via my iPhone, anywhere in the house). Apparently the current network does not allow expanding.
Is there anything I can do just to let the TC join the existing network? And if so, will it still work well with Time Machine?
    Thank you very much!

There is an issue with the MAC address of clients being hidden.. Apple was technically correct to leave it off.. but for home usage.. which after all, these devices are for.. they are not business products.. then I don't really care if the MAC addresses of the clients are hidden behind the repeater or not. The Express with one port effectively could still have the issue.. if you plugged a switch into it.. but Apple let it pass.
In the end it is as much about business as about technically correct method of operation.. after all.. if they can get you to buy yet another product who is winning??

  • Airport express connected to my existing network - Can I connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port?

Is it possible when my airport express is wirelessly connected to my existing network - to connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port or is it wireless only at that point?
I'm trying to connect my A/V Receiver in another room to my network without having to run a CAT5 cable all the way to the router.  I'd rather be able to connect it to my airport express if it will work that way.

Is it possible when my airport express is wirelessly connected to my existing network - to connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port or is it wireless only at that point?
    Yes.....IF
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" version configured to "join a wireless network" and you have enabled the option to "Enable Ethernet Clients"
    Or
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" configured to "extend a wireless network" from another Apple "n" router, in which case the Ethernet port is enabled by default

  • Creating Apps in Flash that allows connection with any existing LMS

    Hi Everyone,
I am interested to create e-learning apps using Flash and then output it using AIR to a native extension as an .ipa or .apk format.
Can you connect with any existing LMS using Actionscript 3.0? I am curious as I have been searching over the web and no-one has posted anything about it.
Right now for any Adobe e-learning solutions, the prevailing technology is to use Adobe Captivate but the project exceeds what Captivate is capable of.
    Thanks for reading!

You better check the documentation available on OTN
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_03/web.1013/b14432/threadpool.htm
There are several options you can setup with pooling.
    hope this helps.

  • Connect to an existing phone system

Our church currently has two regular phone lines connected to an in-house system.  I would like to replace the second line with a Skype line.  Can I connect to my existing phone system?  Both lines currently just plug into the system.  How do I convert Skype to a wired line?  Are there monthly costs?  Per minute usage costs?  I am very new to all of this and would love some guidance.  I don't really even know where to begin.  Thanks

    Hi Jamie,
In order to help you I need some more information:
Can you tell me what your remote system is?
What is consists of? eg PXI 1000 chassis with specific modules?
What are you trying to communicate with it from? - a local PC?
Is the system hardware NI or third party?
What operating system are you using? eg Windows XP?
Have you installed the drivers for the hardware? Did you remember to install the drivers after you had installed the hardware and reboot?
Did you get the found new hardware wizard popup when you installed the hardware?
What are the methods you have already tried for connecting to it?
In what way are you communicating between your local and remote system?
ie via Serial port? TCP communication?

  • Pol-5174 Connection doesn't exist

I have one PDA for multiple users. So on my mobile server, i publish my application and attach users.
When i do the first synchronization with user1, no problem, the db is created.
But after that, i want to do a synchronization with user2, and then an error occurs : POL-5174 Connection doesn't exist.
What's the problem ? Isn't possible to synchronize a PDA with different users ?

I registered a tar -> 4884342.993 but do not have an answer yet.
An interesting aside is I uninstalled the oracle lite PPC2003 ARMV4 Version 10.2.0.1.0 client.
I then put the oracle lite PPC2003 ARMV4 Version 10.0.0.0.0 client on the pda
and synced to the 10g r2 server and it works. I can sync both users and get the
    appropriate data for each user.
I then put the client PPC2003 ARMV4 Version 10.2.0.1.0 client back on and now
    get the famous pol-5174 error.

  • How do I connect my (once) existing IPhoto Albums (now Photos) to Apple TV?

How do I now connect my (previously existing) IPHOTO albums (now Photos) to my Apple TV and where are my **** albums?

You do not... no computer is "connected" to an ATV.
Content on the computer can be shared via HomeSharing.
A newer Mac is required for AirPlay support.

  • Can I connect a PC via LAN to my WLAN - connected time capsule?

    Hi,
I haven't found any info on this in the forums yet:
    The problem:
My WLAN - router is located in my living room and has loads of devices connected (iPhone, iPad, 2 Zeppelin Air, MacBook Air, some other Win - PCs etc...)
One of the PCs (Win 7) is in another room, connected via WLAN too.
I now have a time capsule near this PC and would like to connect these two via LAN and then use the WLAN connection of the time capsule for this PC too.
After connecting the Ethernet cable (which was working fine elsewhere) I see that there is a connection, but no access to the network.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

You likely have the Time Capsule configured to "Join a wireless network". Is that correct?
If yes, the Time Capsule does not perform any routing functions in this type of configuration. In effect, it has become a wireless hard drive.
Therefore, the Etherent ports are not enabled, so there is no signal available at the ports.
