Connecting 2nd ipod nano to computer

hi everyone! this is my first post. i had my ist nano stolen. just purchased a 2nd one. my question: what problems will i encounter transferring my i tunes to the new nano? beinga senior citizen would appreciate ez responses. should i initially charge the nano from my computer, will this help? thank you all for your time, and help. jim

Your computer will recognize a new iPod (it won't think this is your old iPod), it'll ask if you want to sync it. If your iPod has enough space to hold all your music, answer yes. If your iPod won't hold all your music and you don't mind iTunes choosing your music for you, answer yes. If you'd rather manually sync the iPod or if you want to sync selected playlists, answer no.

I have created an iTunes account on my current computer for my daughters ipod touch and tried connecting my ipod nano and it won't sync and says that it is associated with another iTunes library so how do I merge the two libraries?

    You do not merge libraries.
iDevices sync to one and only one computer.
If you want a single library, you manually move the content from one library to another... all content will still be associated with the Apple ID it was acquired with.

  • Connecting a 2nd iPod to my computer

I have the iPod Nano already connected to my computer. I bought my husband the same one. Can we have both iPod's connected to the same computer?

Like I said before, you can connect 2 iPods to one computer. However, there are multiple options. If you don't care whether some of his songs are on your iPod, and vice versa, you can use the same user on the computer. Now... If you each want your own library, there's two ways you can set this up: #1 - Create a new user on the computer, and install iTunes 7 there. Then, one of you use one user, and the other can use the created one. The songs can be different on in iTunes on either user, it'w a whole new library. #2 - If you don't want to create a new user on the computer, you can set your iPods to "manually update songs" so that iTunes doesn't automatically put all the songs in the library on the iPod. With this method, you have to manually drag songs you want from iTunes to your iPod icon in iTunes. That way, you can selectively put your songs on your ipod and he can put his on his iPod using the same library.
    Hope this helps

  • Computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano

    Hello,
my computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano. I have a Pentium IV with windows XP Pro. Can anybody help me please.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • Connecting 2 Ipod Nanos to One computer

my boyfriend and I both have ipod nanos and want to connect them to one computer. We have setup one of the nanos and it works perfectly, but the second one won't connect and won't be recognized by itunes. What do we need to do so we can connect both ipods to same computer?

There are 2 different issues here
One iPod Nano won't be recognized by iTunes
In most case, the reason behind is caused by the PC, since you get one iPod recognized, so clearly is the problem of your Nano, please do a Reset see if it helps

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • Itunes freezes when I connect my ipod nano

Thanks Santa for the new iPod Nano. Unfortunately, every time I connect the ipod to the computer, iTunes freezes and I have to completely reboot the PC. Very frustrating! I have reloaded all the software from the CDs four times, after unstalling it, to no avail. Interestingly, I have managed to download onto the ipod on one occassion and then once the download was complete, itunes froze. Any help would be much appreciated

Just in case, let's doublecheck to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes (the new 10.6.1.7 and one of the old ones with the freeze-on-nano-plugging-in issue.)
There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

  • Connecting two ipod nanos

it is possible to connect two ipod nanos to the PC to transfer music or videos from one to one???
    i have ipod nano 4G
and my friend has ipod nano 3G
    waiting your reply.

You can connect two iPods to the one computer, yes. However, you can't take files from an iPod and put it on another computer or iPod normally. There are some programs that allow you to take the files off an iPod and put them on a computer, but I don't think you can transfer directly from iPod to iPod.
To connect the two iPods to the one PC, you need the connector cable for both of them - one cable will not do. The cable is white, and it has a USB and an iPod connector. It's the cable you use to connect the iPod to your PC normally. Put both of the cables in a different USB slot, and you're set.
If one of the iPods is not 'registered' to the correct computer, you can click the 'Cancel' button and keep the iPod plugged in. I hope you understand what I mean.
I've never used a program to get files from the iPod to a PC, but I know of a couple. Here's a list of a few names I know :
    Xilisoft iPod Rip
    iPodCopy
    4Media iPod to PC
You can find those three on Cnet's Download website (http://www.download.com). They're all for Windows - I never checked if you have a Mac. I don't think any of them are free, but I didn't check.

I found I had the same problem so I uninstalled iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Application Support and then redownloaded the latest version of iTunes which reinstalled everything I uninstalled and I was able to sync my 1st Gen iPad and my 3rd Generation Nano with iTunes 11.1
