Connecting 300 IP Cameras using Cisco Switches

Require help on a Case study. (Can only use Cisco switch)
Description:
This is a setup required for 300 security cameras.
So availability and redundancy is important.
I have calculate the bandwidth using this software.
If each camera is set to 5MP and H.264-10, Bandwidth is 12.08Mbit
So 300 cameras will require at least 3624.96Mbits in total.
(correct me if i am wrong)
Each NVR has 32 port.
It will be just connecting within a LAN.
Here is the brief 2 possible design I have draft out, but I am not sure which model and series of cisco switch to be use??
Design 1:
Design 2:
Please advise which model and series can be used for this 2 two of design.

Hello Chun,
you need to accomodate 300 cameras and 32 ports for each network video recorder.
data flows are from cameras to network video recorder ports.
The amount of traffic per port at port connected to cameras is not huge and total traffic from cameras exceed GE links
48 * 12,08 =       ?? in any case less then     < 1 Gbps
You can deploy a hierarchical network design with an access layer made of switches with fixed configuration 48 ports and GE uplinks like a C3750 with 48 ports or  a 2960 with 48 ports (if it exists)
Each access layer switch needs to have two uplinks to distribution switches
And you need 300/48 switches => 7 switches     => 7 GE uplinks on each distribution switches
Distribution switches should be two and should be able to connect to access layer switches and to NVR that requires 32 ports each.
Different solutions are possible:
instead od deploying 7 standalone switches with 48 ports each you could use two modular C4507 equipped with  WS-4548 48 10/100/1000 linecards
the distribution switches can be two C3750 E, eventually configured and connected as a stack, to allow to use both uplinks of each access layer switch
Hope to help

I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling.  I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working.  I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4  base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords.  I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn.  The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up.  Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address.  When the AEBS is set to  bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS.  I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS.  In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding.  However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope.  What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have.  I've hit the wall with what I know.
Thanks.

In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

• I use an iMac 10.6.8 with iPhoto '09 to download digital images from Canon DSLRs. Until the last two weeks there has been no trouble whatever importing images by  a USB connection from either camera to the Mac. Now the process will not kick in. Any ideas?

I use an Mac OSX 10.6.8 with iPhoto 09 to download digital images from two Canon DSLRs. Until the last week, there has been no problem whatever in launching the import procedure once the USB connection has been connected and the camera switched on. Now the process will not kick in at all for either camera.  I can't find a solution through iPhoto help or from other sources.
Any ideas to fix?  (I admit I have not tested the USB cable at this time).

What does "kick in" mean?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.

• Collecting information from Cisco switchs using SNMP

Dear All,
I have a wide network with more than 250 sites connected using the DSL. the WAN devices are under the provider responsability and the LAN devices are directly in my responsability. In each site, I have :
1 or 2 Cisco switchs (2960 or 3560), connecting via fibr.
or
Linksys switch connected via ethernet cable
and
cisco 877 router connected to switch
cisco 881G router conected to switch
pc and printers
In order to improve the availibilty of our network, we lauch every day a script from local pc to test connectivity of LAN equipements :
ping to switchs (Vlan 1), ping to ip fa0/0 cisco router1, ip cisco router2, ping to HSRP address (of two router). the resulting ini file will be inserted in a database and exported to excel for analysing.
I'm asking if someone can help in order to implement SNMP and let me know the name of cisco MIB to implement to :
- to have from SNMP information, the result of show cdp nei, show interface status, show ip int brief,...
- to have if wan router LAN interface are up,connected
-  others usefuls informations.
Thanks and regards,
AA

Hi,
the basic SNMP config for 2960 and 3560 is:
         snmp-server community <> RO
The configuration for SNMP traps to get alerts from the device if there is for example a failure with a fan is:
              snmp-server enable traps
              snmp-server host <> <>
This enables all traps available with your IOS version. You can the disable not wanted traps by using the "no"-command like this.
Example for dot1x traps:
              no snmp-server enable traps dot1x
With a snmp client you can then do a snmpwalk (or snmp get) without a specific OID to get all the SNMP information from the device:
On a Linux server the following command should work:
         snmpwalk -v 2c -c <> -T <>
-v = use SNMP version 2c
-c = use the community string you configured on the device
-T = output in the dotted decimal format
But be careful, this will be a lot of data output.
Here you will find a docu for configuring SNMP on a Cisco device:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/configfun/configuration/guide/fcf014.html

• Problems acquiring and saving multiple camera images using a switch with GigE cameras

Hi Folks,
We are having an issue with connecting 6 GigE cameras via an Ethernet switch. We can acquire and store individual cameras but once we increase the number of cameras we end up with jumpy avi files.
Each camera has been physically labelled and attached to the switch, so camera 1 is attached to port 1, which then corresponds to Cam1 in MAX. When recording multiple files what appears to happen is that the avi file from cam1 actually has images from multiple cameras, as if cam1 is being renamed/allocated on each frmae and each time a different camera is allocated. How can we fix this?
We are new to this so any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Cathy

I think your problem is caused by using the same image name on each instance of Imaq create. "Grab and Save to AVI Acq" being the string you are using. I am pretty sure If you make each image name unique you wont get image referance problems.

• Find IP address/machine connected to a cisco switch port

hello,
I need to know which IP/device is connecetd to a cisco Switch port.
I can get the mac-address of that switch port using sh mac-add command, but with the mac address how can i find that which ip belongs to this mac.
is there way i can do this, i know i can do the other way meaning with IP i can find to which port its connected ,but dont know how to find this MAC to IP with switch without the need for additional tools

Hey Anantha ,
Hop u r doing good,
If u dont know ip address of devices present on specific vlan and wanted to track end device ip address please try
follow this below
steps 1:ping it to brodcast ip address of subnet
for ex
R1--SW1--SW2--(H1
                                 --H2
R1..1.1.1.1/24
H1..1.1.1.2/24
H2.1.1.1.3/24
So u r brodacast ip is 1.1.1.255
ping  1.1.1.255
Sending 1000, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 1.1.1.255, timeout is 2 seconds:
Reply to request 8 from 1.1.1.2, 28 ms
Reply to request 9 from 1.1.1.3, 64 ms
u will get reply from all host present on that segment and ur arp table will get flood with ip and respective mac on
your L3 device...(R1 in this example)
Step2: then u can use command
sh ip arp ..to see ip and respective mac associate with it
R1#sh ip arp
Protocol  Address          Age (min)  Hardware Addr   Type   Interface
Internet  1.1.1.1                 -   c000.2498.0000  ARPA   Vlan2
Internet  1.1.1.2                 0   c003.2498.0000  ARPA   Vlan2
Step3: see the mac learned from specific port
R1#sh mac address c003.2498.0000
Destination Address  Address Type  VLAN  Destination Port
c003.2498.0000          Dynamic       2     FastEthernet1/1
Step4:If  u have all cisco devices then u can use CDP
to check wht device connect to ur interface
R1#sh cdp ne fa1/1 detail
Device ID: SW1.lab.local
Follow this way, hop u will trace devices present on ur network
Hop this informative,

• Connecting " HP Blade System C7000 enclosure" to Cisco Switch

Dear
We moved our data center from on place to another .The network cabinet includes " HP Blade System C7000 enclosure". we have two vlans , one of them is DMZ. In the old place , the HP Blade was connected to two Cisco switches ,on one of them DMZ port was configered and on the another Cisco switch non-DMZ port was configured .Now our  " HP Blade System C7000 enclosure" use one CISCO switch and the DMZ and non-DMZ ports are configured on the same CISCO switch and when we restart any server from any vlan ,the server will not be able to connect to the network although all of the servers have static IPs.
and after logon to the server , a message appears telling us there is a conflict with the mac address of the gateway. the same mac address conflicts when restarting any server from any vlan.
Would you help?
Thanks

• Clearing the switch CAM using SNMP

How can I clear the Dynamic address table (CAM) using SNMP?  There is a check box for this on the WEB interface.  It appears that the AAT time does not remove all entries older than that time.  I need to do this remotely from software and can't use the WEB interface.

• Remove guest access without using 'cisco connect'

Hi all,
I just installed a new Linksys E3000 and was able to use "Cisco Connect" up until I decided to forgo the "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" and use manual settings.
Well, after having done this, I can no longer use Cisco connect, and I really want to get rid of the additional "-guest" network which seems to be tagged onto my main network.  Is there anywhere via the browser-based admin that I can get rid of the guest access feature?  If there is, I can't seem to find it.
I tried switching back to the  "Wi-Fi Protected Setup"  feature so I could go back to using connect, however it no longer seems to see my router when I try to connect to it, so this is no longer an option for me.  I'd really like to avoid reinstalling the router all over again.
thanks for any info.

If you have configured your Router using the Cisco Connect software, then you it secure your wireless network with an password. If you have any firewall and antivurs software on your router then it will protect your computers against worms.
To use the FTP feature of your router you need to enable ftp login on your router, which you will find under the storage tab of your router.

• Connecting my ipad mini to my camera using the USB camera kit error message 'device is to powerful' keeps popping up.

I am trying to connect my iPad mini to my Samsung camera using the USB camera kit, I keep getting the error message ' device to powerful'. Is there anyway to fix this or do I need to take it back?? The shop assistant in Currys assured me it should work and it wasn't cheap at £25 for a tiny wire! I have read other posts concerning this but they are dated quite a while ago so just wondered what the newest advice was concerning this. Thanks

The camera is drawing too much power for your iPad. This can happen on cameras which charge their batteries using the USB connection. Make sure that you have the camera set to the correct settings for picture transfer - check the documentation that came with the camera.
Note that you can return the USB kit and get the SD card adaptor or get a powered USB hub if you can't get the camera to work any other way.
