Connecting 3G iPod to firewire without syncing

I want to keep the iPod connected to the firewire port to keep it charged and play while connected, but not connect to iTunes.
Right now if I connect it, even with iTunes set to not launch, it will say do not disconnect on the ipod. After ejecting, I get the ok to disconnect. At no point does it return to the main screen on the ipod so that I can play music on the ipod while staying connected through 6 pin firewire.

Try setting the iPod so that +Enable disk use+ is NOT check on the iPod's iTunes pane.
However, even if it is set to +Enable disk use+, ejecting it should make the iPod's screen menu appear. But I use a Mac, so it may be different on Windows.

The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?

Playing iPod through iTunes without syncing - is this possible?

My iPod is sync'd with my laptop at home, but I would like to connect my iPod to my laptop at work and use it through iTunes. I don't want to sync them because I don't want to install 2,000 songs onto my work laptop. Is it possible to leave my iPod connected through USB and play the songs through iTunes? Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab and click Apply. The text will change from grey to dark and the padlock will disappear: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

I have 3 ipods on one computer. I want to copy a couple of videos to the Library but don't want my ipod to sync with all the library. I tried the manual thing and tried to look at the ipod as a hard drive through explorer but I don't see the videos. iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes:
Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to iPod when you connect it to the computer.
Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to iPod.

iTunes on our computer has at least 2000 songs and I previously went through it and made a playlist of about 700 of songs that I like, so everytime I wanted to add the songs that I like onto another device I would not have to go through 2000 songs again. Sadly I directly put my playlist onto my phone which gave me all of my music but an extra useless playlist that included all of my songs, so I deleted it off my iPhone. This wasn't a problem until I reconnected it to my computer. Because I deleted the playlist off of my phone it also deleted it off of my itunes on my mac as well as deleting multiple random songs off of my phone. You didn't read the whole post or you missed the bit that says "you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode .........You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes". You need to set the iPod to manual as I've already described.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
However once you are connected you still need to set it to manual to play the songs on it through iTunes on the computer.

When I connect my IPOD ITUNES FREEZES!!! HELP!!

Everytime I connect my ipod to ITUNES my sync does not work and ITunes freezes... I updated to v7 and updated my ipod as well. Anyone know what to do? I am at a loss, I cannot sync my ipod..

I'm right there with you. And so is a ton of other people. Mine just crashes all over the place like a blindman driving an 18-wheeler through New York City. And often without even giving me an option to report it.
Basically, I am gathering that there is a craplooad of crucial glitches that they didn't work out before releasing. and a bunch of us are stuck with it until they have release the next version. Unless you want to go to the trouble to delete it and reinstall version 6.0.5. Which I started to do, but I think it'll be too big of a pain. Hopefully they will get to it fast.
That is just my 2¢, though.

I recently bought a new computer, downloaded itunes and all my music from the cloud, made a few more purchases on itunes then plugged in my ipod and it wont sync. My ipod is already associated with my itunes account and the computer is authorised...

I have a new laptop which will not sync my ipod to it. I've registered the computer, this is the only ipod associated with this itunes account. It shows the syncing symbol on the laptop and on the ipod but then when i eject the ipod afterwards the new songs have not transfered or my playlists.

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account." The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases. It is also used with iCloud. iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod. If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes. There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary. Click on Music next to Summary. This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked). If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod. When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library. Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want). Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs. Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists. Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs). The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

Itunes changes the file names of all of my music when I connect my ipod...

When I open up itunes on my computer, everything looks fine. All of my music is there and I don't have any "!" by any songs. When I connect my ipod Touch and it syncs, then many of my songs have an "!" by them and if they don't have an "!" by them, they do when I click on them to get info. The file name on the "get info." page is adding "file:/localhost/" in front of the real filename path and therefore causing me to get the message that says: The song "__" could not be used b/c the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
I don't want to go and find each & every file AGAIN....what is wrong with this thing & what do I need to do to fix it once & for all?

Typicaly this means you have faulty copies of the music file or that the file has been moved or deleted fromt he origional spot it was downloaded to. Chances are you are going to have to update your i-tunes software and get new copies of every problem file before it willw ork again. If you are using a free version of a file sharing software(limewire,sharbear etc.) your best option would be to pay for it. It's not expensive and when you buy the software they usualy come with a virus protector to prevent you from getting bad copeis of the file.

IPod iTunes won't sync with computer iTunes - please help

I recently purchased an album on iTunes wireless (Maroon 5 - highly recommended) and when I connected my iPod to iTunes to sync the songs did not transfer to my computer's iTunes. Nothing happened basically.
I've read the manual that says that they should sync automatically but nothing that I've tried works.
My setting is for manual sync and transfer of songs and I would really like to keep it like that since I don't want all my iTunes library to be dumped into my newly purchased iPod Touch. PLEASE HELP

If you manually manage your music it won't automatically sync your Maroon 5. Connect the Touch, right click on it in the Source frame under devices, then select transfer purchases.

Hi,
Your old pod can only sync with music that is physically in your itunes library and on your hard drive. Therefore there is simple way to resolve is to download your music to your hard drive.

How do you turn off Auto-Sync without connecting the ipod to PC?

My Purchased Tracks was deleted off my computer, but I still have all of them on my ipod. I have iTunes 7, so I am aware I can transfer all my purchased music from my ipod to itunes. But I know auto-sync is set up, so when I connect it to my computer, won't it automatically sync itunes with my ipod and therefore delete my purchased music on my ipod? Can I turn off auto-sync without connecting my ipod?

A couple of ways...
Hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys when you plug in the iPod. (For a PC)
Or...
Connect your iPod, but before it starts to sync, click that little X on the right hand side of the ITunes display at the top of the page. (Next to the "Do Not Disconnect" message.)
Then click box at bottom that says manually manage music.

For Apple store go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and sign out and sig in with correct ID
For messages go to Settings>FaceTime>You can be reached at and ad an their own unique email address and delete the common Apple ID address.
Similar for Messages too.
