Connecting 5G ipod to vehicle

I have a 30GB iPod Video and an Acura MDX 2005. Acura has a "music link" for 2006 and later, but nothing for an '05. I do have an FM transmitter, but it is such a pain! I called an audio place and they say they don't have any way to hook it up, but I find that hard to believe, since I have an "AUX" button on the front of my stereo. (BTW, I don't have a tape deck either). I don't know what to do next, is there a cheap way to hook it up? I don't care if it's just a plug sticking out of my dash...
Thanks!

how cheap are we talkin about here? i know there is a system that you can purchase and install into your vehicle, but I think it ran about $200. http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/tour.aspx
From the looks of it, I say top notch. But considering I can't afford it right now, I honestly don't know. You can either install it yourself or have an authorized tech put it in.

  • Pre-sales question (connecting iPod to vehicle)

In 2002, I bought a refurbished first-generation 5-gigabyte hard-drive iPod. It still plays, but I'm concerned about the longevity of the battery. I would also like to carry something more compact, so I'm thinking about an iPod Nano.
I just bought a used 2001 Chevy Astro LS AWD minivan from the U.S. gov't auction. It was a deal, and it has nice features and appointments. I am concerned about how I would connect my current iPod to the van's stereo-radio, as the Astro has no tape deck. (I have been using a cassette deck adaptor to plug my current iPod into car stereos since '02.)
Are there kits available on the market for connecting an iPod Nano to a van like this, and keeping the Nano charged as well?

    Hi Xanadi,
If your sound system has an "AUX IN" port on it then you can connect the iPod directly to it using an audio cable (same size as the headphones). This gives the best sound quality, I've found.
If it doesn't then you may be stuck with an iTrip, or (if your new car has a tape deck), you can use the casette adaptor.
    Hope this helps,

  • A cheap way to connect my iPod to my car stereo?

I want to wire my iPod directly into my car stereo. Is there a way to do this without spending hundreds of dollars?

b Various Methods to Connect to a Car Stereo System, or Listen to Your iPod in the Vehicle
There are several ways to connect any iPod (or MP3 player) to a car audio system. There are also many opinions on which works better than others. Here is my synopsis:
    b Best Way:
Direct connection via the dock connector or headphone jack to a mini-jack input into your car stereo. Not many low/moderate-end cars have this feature yet, but it is becoming more popular. Some aftermarket auto stereo units have this feature. There are also some after-market, fairly expensive adaptors that hook into your existing car stereo that will provide a direct connection. Pretty slick, but pricey. If money is no object, a clean way to go. See:

    http://www.theistore.com/ipod2car.html
    http://www.mp3yourcar.com/productdetails.asp?productID=175
    b Better:
Connect your iPod to a cassette adaptor and play your tunes through your car's cassette player. In my opinion (via testing in my car using the accessories I have), it has better fidelity than FM transmitters. Some new cars no longer come with a cassette player, so it may not be an option.
    b Good:
Attach one of the many FM transmitter devices to your iPod and play the tunes through an unused FM station. Some noticeable degradation and distortion may be heard - depending on the sensitivity of your ears and the airwave congestion in your area.
    b Marginal:
Attach an external speaker system to the iPod and play it in the car. Workable, but not too good - unless you spring for a $300+ Bose (or similar) system. But why? Only if your vehicle has no Stereo system, perhaps.
Whichever you choose, power the iPod through a DC adapter running from the car. See the reviews below for choices on all the accessories mentioned above, and more.
See the reviews of various accessories at the iPodLounge here:
    http://www.ipodlounge.com/index.php/reviews/review_grades/
I have read both positive and negative reviews of each method, and within method, there are great variations in performance of different manufacture's systems – and peoples’ opinions of their performance. Some cassette adaptors work poorly, some better. I got lucky with my choices and have not had any big problems, yet...
BTW - I have a Belkin cassette adaptor and an iTrip Mini FM transmitter (as well as a Newer Technology RoadTrip!+). Using the same song in the same car, I found that the cassette adaptor worked significantly better for me than the FM transmitters.

  • I am trying to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer. After installing itunes and connecting my ipod touch a message comes up saying that my ipod is already synced with another library. What can I do to sync it with a new library?

I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. I am trying to put the music from my ipod touch onto my new computer but keep getting a message saying that my ipod is already synced with a library and cannot be synced with more than one. How do I access that library on my new computer and if I can't are their other ways for me to put the music on my ipod into my new computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

  • Songs greyed out whenever I connect my iPod to iTunes?

I own an iPod touch 4G. The problem I'm having is whenever I connect my iPod to iTunes, a certain 6 songs show up as "greyed out" and are listed as the most recently added songs. It's not a huge problem but it's bothersome. One of the songs, "Survival" by Muse is on my iPod, the exact same version I purchased and it is not greyed out and I can play it normally. The other songs I don't have on my iPod (not from their respective albums at least, but from a compilation I purchased). They do not show up greyed out on my iPod music, just on iTunes under Music under my iPod name. I don't know why these 6 songs show up greyed out, there's no reason they should. Please help me get rid of this so I don't have to deal with it again!

Try a new cable and different USB port
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

SO this tells me something is wrong with my phone it self. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?

  • A playlist that I update on my ipod won't update when I connect my ipod to itunes

I have been using my Ipod Touch 3rd generation to create playlists. The playlists show up fine and play on the ipod, but when I connect the ipod to itunes, and click on the playlist, it does not reflect the changes made on the ipod. I have the ipod set to manually manage, so when I disconnect the ipod the songs are still on the ipod, but why won't they show up on itunes?
I also deleted some tv shows off of the ipod by way of itunes, but when i disconnected the ipod, they were still listed on the ipod, although they would not play. So somehow, my itunes and ipod are not communicating with eachother. Any ideas/fixes?

    Hey BingHuo,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPod will sync but not charge while connected. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

    hi Michel,
Do not forget that you need to put the Livebox in "association" mode otherwise you will not succeed in connecting to your wifi network. (sur les Livebox Inventel, il faut appuyer sur le bouton "1" se trouvant à l'arrière. sur les Livebox Sagem, c'est un bouton à enfoncer près de la prise d'alimentation). • MacBook loses wireless connection when iPod touch connects to network

    hi
ever since upgrading to 10.5.5. on my MacBook i've had the "intermittent network connection" problems that have been described and discussed (without any real solution from what i can see) in another thread.
PROBLEM: every couple of minutes my MacBook loses connectivity to the network - the AirPort icon still says that i'm connected, albeit with one less bar than before, but i can't connect to anywhere, not even to the wireless router - and to re-establish a connection i need to switch off AirPort, switch it back on, it will then reconnect, and after two minutes or so i have to do it all over again because the network connection drops again.
NOVEL OBSERVATION 1: reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater helped somewhat. i used to get an error in system.log about there being too many state transitions on the wireless network and about network traffic reduction measures being taken to overcome this problem, but after reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater this message never appears in the logs and I get kicked off only sometimes (see what i say in point 2 below)
NOVEL OBSERVATION 2: now my MacBook will only lose its connection to the net if i switch on my iPod Touch and switch its wireless interface on. in fact, the only way to avoid the MacBook getting constantly disconnected is to make sure that the wireless interface on the Touch is switched off in the Touch's system preferences; if I just sleep the Touch (top button) without switching off its wireless network interface first in its System Preferences, then the MacBook will keep disconnecting even while the Touch is in sleep mode (presumably the Touch keeps polling the network or something, even while it's in sleep mode).
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 1: I have another wireless device (my Nokia E51, which has wifi capabilities) and if I connect it to the wireless interface then the MacBook's connection isn't dropped - i.e. the MacBook only loses its wireless connection when my iPod Touch connects to the wireless network.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 2: I have upgraded my wireless router (before I had a Linksys WRT-54GC, now I have a Netgear WGR614v9) but that has made no difference.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 3: I have also tried altering the router's settings (i have played around a_lot with this, trying every combination I could think of - e.g. staple down particular devices to particular ip addresses, use only 802.11g versus automatic b/g, etc) but that has made no difference either.
    RANT:
The only thing that prevents these disconnections from occurring is to keep the iPod Touch's wireless switched off, which ***** because if I'm in the kitchen I can't have it switched on to monitor my email (yes, I've no life, i hang around waiting for emails), or if I go have a lie down and want to check out stuff on the net, or to browse the iTunes music store or whatever, then I know that my connecting my iPod Touch the computer will be disconnected.
This obviously *****, right? And a lot of people are having wireless problems with their MacBooks, right? And these problems seem to have been around for over a year, right?
So why hasn't Apple solved this problem yet? Or am I just being melodramatic?
Your thoughts on any or all of the above, or flames if that's your preferred method of communicating, are invited. =)
    Cheers
    dr.colekat

Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.
