Connecting a 1394 firewire from Canon XHA1 to my new 27" I Mac

The Canon manual says it only takes a 1394 cable ( 4 to 6 in)which is fire wire 400. This has been working well on my old G5. The port is firewire 800. Will this port take a different 400 firewire 1394 cable. If not what would be the solution?

Both the adaptor and cable are under $5. The adaptor is good if you want to continue using the old canon cable you have been using all this time.

Audio lag from Canon XHA1 speaker during log and capture

Hey All,
I'm working with a Canon XHA1. I'm logging and capturing video shot in HDV (1920 by 1080) @ 60i, . I can see the video on screen but the audio playing back from the camera is about half a second behind what I'm seeing on screen.
My video monitor on the camera sincs up fine with the audio during this process AND my final capture is fine. It's just hard to work with this audio delay during the log and capture.
Is this a settings issue? I don't think I can monitor sound through the computer during log and capture, right?
Here are my settings:
Sequence preset:
HDV - 1080i60
Capture preset: HDV
Device control preset:
HDV Firewire Basic
Video Playback: None
Audio Playback: Default
Any suggestions?
AND can anybody tell me what Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 means?

i purchased a canon xha1s and am simply trying to capture the video onto my macbook pro laptop. i keep getting the error saying my settings are incorrect and am confused as what to put and where. i went to the video/audio settings and put what i believed to be correct (HDV) since my camcorder records in HDV. still that error window pops up when i try to log and capture footage.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best way to do Slow motion scene from Canon XHA1S (HDV)

The Canon (XHA1S UK version (PAL)) I have records 25f (progressive) and 50i at various shutter speeds and I have, until now always used optical flow in Motion or Change Speed within FCP to create slow motion effects of clips in my sequence. I almost always capture at 50i then bring it in transcoded to ProRes 442, and as I say either change the speed or send a clip to motion and roundtrip it with an optical flow apllied. Is there a better way or more appropriate codec I shlould use to ingress/transcode the origional captured tape to make the the sequence clips ? I know there are some Plug-Ins such as Twixtor out there but given the fairly small amount of times I need this I do not want to spend hundreds of bucks on that if I can get a better result with the FCP / Motion I have. FYI my system looks like this FCP 7.0.2 , Motion 4.0.2 (FCS3) on a MP 2009 Quad Core 2.26,12Gb RAM, Graphics ATI HD4870 (512 Mb VRAM) -

Like yourself I also have a XHA1, and use slow mo quite a lot. I never use motion for it, but I have twixtor too. Twixtor is definately the best - but the process to go about getting a slow mo clip is a joke! When you select the clip and apply say a 50% speed it doesn't extend the length of the clip on the timeline, and you can't drag the edges out either side either!! Instead you have to take the original clip, create a new sequence, duplicate the clip, and then bring that sequence back into your edit - and then apply Twixtor!!!You can imagine if your doing that with a whole editied 'montage' of slow motion it's a total nightmare! (Twixtor seemingly claim that this is apple's fault for not 'letting then' have the tech to do it!)
This may be the next best thing though TMTS

I'm almost completely certain that the scanning feature worked before the update. Having said that though, I don't scan a great deal and it may be the case that when I have done, the printer was directly connected to the MBP. However, since I have a laptop it's far more logical that I would have had the printer connected to Airport Express for reasons of portability so I can't really see that I would have had the printer connected directly to the laptop. Besides this, I have no memory of having this problem previously. Therefore, I don't think my memory is to blame although of course, if it were I'd have no way of knowing!

iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content from an iPod or iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If your iPhone includes iTunes content that was not purchased from the iTunes store such as music that was imported into your iTunes library from a music CD, you need to transfer your iTunes library from the computer you were syncing your iPhone with to your new Mac.

i have problems to capture viedeo from Canon GL1 (same as XM1) to the Mac. I am using Firewire but the Camcorder is not recognized. Do i need any driver software and if so - where do i get it from?

No special drivers are needed for FireWire. If you have other Firewire devices attached, try disconnecting them.

Connecting Canon XHA1 to MacBook Pro

I need to connect and import video from my canon XHA1, but I cannot find an easy setup in the manual that will allow FCE to communicate with my camera. When I control the camera on its own I don't get anything on the computer either.

Cant not upload pictures from my SD card into FCE through canon xha1s firewire. Is there another way? The strange part is when I originally hooked my canon up to the Imac iphoto saw the camcorder as a device and I do not what has happen since then. I just bought the camcorder and would like to take advantage of the photo capabilities as well as the video. All help would be greatly appreciated.

The card video stuff will most likely load into iPhoto when you tranfer the stills. USB connection only.
The video on the card will be a highly compressed, small dimensioned format and won't work directly with FCE and not over firewire in any shape or form.
However, you could take the clips from iPhoto and convert them to an FCE freindly format such as the DV codec. Streamclip is a free application that can do the job.

Trouble importing via Canon XHA1 on Firewire

I have a Canon XHA1, FCP 7, and Firewire 800 9pin to 4pin. I have made sure all System setups are in HDV for FCP. Then I checked playback on the Menu screen for my camera, it's film is in HDV and the playback is in HDV and not Auto. When I connect the firewire and camera, the playback flashes Grey with a blank where HDV was written(HDV off), and White HDV. How do I correct this and get my footage off my camera?

Well, I do this all the time, without converting anything.
Copy the 'contents' folder from your card onto your media harddrive (I usually make a topfolder with date or description).
Then you go to you media browser inside PPRO and navigate to the 'contents' folder.
You should now see the clips and be able to select, shift+select or lasso clips, right-click and chose 'import'.
The clips will be imported to the bin and audio is conformed.
This should work.

Trying to download video into Final cut pro from my canon XHA1 HD camera

I have a brand new I-mac 24 inch 4gs of memory and a terabite of hard drive, with Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 Studio 2. I have a brand new Canon XHA1 HD camera. when I plug in my 4pin firewire the computer it won't except the camera or the firewire, but I-movie will? the warning sign says it can't find the firewire? does any body know what settings I need to set, so my computer will except and download my video footage in final cut pro?

I've got the Canon XH-A1, but I'm still using FCP 5.1.4, for the moment. I've had no problem capturing from the camera. Are you using Log and Capture? The simplest way to try capturing, once you're in Log and Capture is to hit play in the controller section (or space bar), and then use the capture now button, once the video has started playing. There is an entire chapter in the book on how to use the log and capture facility, so I'm not going to get too detailed here. If you can't get it to work, please be specific about how far you get. Can you play the video on the camera?, Does it show the transport controls?, etc.

Connectivity with the Canon XHA1S

I shot in HD30F with the Canon XHA1S, using sony HDV cassettes. When I tried to capture using HDV settings in FCP (6.06), the camera couldn't connect and would only capture in SD settings.
Thoughts?

Verify that your camera settings are correct – HDV output selected Down Convert turned OFF.
Verify that your FCP Easy Set-up is HDV 1080i Firewire Basic.
