Connecting a 23 inch monitor to comcast HD cable box

Hi folks
I just got a 23 inch monitor and I am interested to know if anyone has used the display to output video from a cable box. I have a female DVI to HDMI connector and the cable box has an HDMI port. Is there anything else I should worry about?
thanks!
12 inch powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   23 inch apple display

I have not tried this myself with my 20" cinema display but when I tried it with a viewsonic monitor I had problems with the Digital Copy Protection system they use on the HDMI/DVI ports on the cable boxes to prevent people from copying the video. I do not know if the Apple display has HDCP support or not. If it does it should work fine, otherwise your get an error message on the screen telling you there is a DCP error. Either way if you already have the cables give it a try it won't hurt your monitot. Note that if you get a DCP error (or no display) when you connect the HDMI cable restart the cable box with the monitor attached to see if that works.

  • 30 inch monitor ... extension cable? How to run moonitor in another room

I have a recording studio and have a quadcore and a 30 inch monitor. I'd like to run my tower in another room and put my monitor in the control room. Is there a correct extension cable that someone could refer me to?
The distance is about 30 feet or so.
    thanks!

now I have the same issue with my PPC G5 running 2 19" monitors. I think they're connected via VGA. Do i need a VGA booster as well to power those monitors appx 30 ft away?
A high quality VGA should work without a booster.

Call them to be sure. Tell them what resolution and refresh rate you will be using.

I want to hook up Apple TV but my One HDMI Jack on my TV is already connected to my HD cable box. My TV has jacks for s video, component, and PC in jacks.
Can I use one of them to connect to Apple TV with some type of cable to my newer I-pad ?

Here are the Apple TV outputs.

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you.

My almost-new Macbook Pro 15-inch with retina display goes black and shuts down sometimes when connected to my external monitor. (The first time it did this was when connected to a projector.) They have replaced the motherboard but it still happens sometimes. The computer and monitor both come back on after a few seconds.

  • Apple 27 inch monitor connect to dvi port

Anyone know how to connect an Apple 27 inch monitor with a mini connector to a nvidia quadro 4800 dvi port and still maintain full resolution ? ( No, the Kanex C247D will not maintain full resolution)

I just finished hooking up my 4 year old Mac Pro to a new Apple 27" LED Display an hour ago.
I used an Atlona AT-DP400 DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter and it works great "out
of the box".  However, my  Video Card is a NVIDA GeForce 7300 GT 24 pin.  I don't
know if that's the same as your quadro.

  • Connecting Macbook via mini-dvi to vga (s-video) to Dell 24 inch monitor

I'm connected but, the screen does not look good at all. I can barely read the text.
I tried connecting via the rca cable and the s-video cable - but both are blurry. I checked the settings, but the maximum setting doesn't even go to 1920x.... at all.
Another option on the monitor is a DVI cable. Do I need a mini-DVI to DVI adapter instead? Or is there a setting somehow to make the s-video connection much better.
My monitor is a Dell 2405FPW.

Tele is right. If you are mirroring the same image on both displays, you will never get more resolution than the lower resolution display.
If you instead create an extended desktop where you can view different content on both your MacBook screen and the external monitor, then you CAN set different resolutions for both screens. The MacBook's internal LCD is only 1280x800, but the MacBook can do 1920x1200 resolution on an external monitor per the specs here: http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html
If you're doing this right, the display should be sharp and crisp. But you definitely want to be using a DVI or VGA cable, and NOT s-video or RCA/composite. Do you have a mini-DVI to DVI cable? Here it is: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M93 21G/B
DVI is sharper than VGA is sharper than S-video is sharper than RCA/composite.

  • Connecting aqos 32 inch tv

I have conneted both a 19-inch monitor and 32 inch tv. I find when I siwtch the reolution of one, it affects that of the other. Turn the 19 inch monitor to a small resolution gives me more possibilities for the Aqous TV.
Assume that the G5 drives up to a total combined resolution...Ok.
When i find one I like, I turn the 19 inch display off and leave the TV on. fine.
Even can get rid of the monitor and just leave the TV connected. BUT, if I hit detect displays with the 19inch disconnected, the Aquos no longer can accept that screen resolution and goes dark....Unlike the 19inch display, whicxh seems smart. It gives an error message about the signal dimensions being incompatible UNTIL I have the TWO displays on and can adjust until noth are again displayable. I assume there are a fixed number of resolutions but without the display on, the Aquos screen does not let me see the settings. Do i leave the 19 inch display on (or at least avoid telling the mac to look again for the display ). I get the feeling that without the 19inch on, I can get more resolutions on the Aqous, but cannot see the Aquos settings without both on to start with.
Related question--when Macbook is connected, a different sort of probelm. Have both displays working (built in 15 inch) and TV, but if I close the MAC BOOK, I thought the TV would stay on while the MB stayed asleep.
    Hmmmm
    Simple solutions?
    Thanks?
    Paul

No matter what settings I have, when the computer is attached to two monitors and I try to set PC, if the main monitor is switched off, the TV (Sharp) forgets and tries to set to 85 herze, which does not work with the Mac. And so I have to re-connected to the other monitor, set to a lower resolution or frequency, and all is fine (until the same thing happens). My accidental solution--->
Set to DIGITAL AV, and the settingas are retained so I can disconnect the now uneeded monitor.
Still, why is it this way (I have to choose ZOOM) to get the best view?) Sharp USA gives me a standard answer to casll an 800 number.
I am in Japan, and Sharp Japan is not helpful. Just tell you to read the manual, but the manual mentions nothing about it.

  • Connect a Professional CRT monitor to iMac

Is there any way to connect a Professional CRT monitor to an iMac? I need to color correct my short film. If a regular monitor won't work what kinds will for accurate color grading?

I'm not sure what a professional CRT is compare to other CRT displays, but if it uses a VGA connection, all you need is a mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9320G/A
I have a 21-inch flat screen CRT attached to my iMac at 1600x1200 resolution. It can go to 1792x1344, but that's a bit too small with the text, and the refresh rate drops to 60 Hz instead of 75 Hz at 1600x1200. You can, of course, choose all the standard resolutions down to 640x480.

  • Running a 27 inch monitor over Dual link DVI-D

    Hi all
I have recently acquired a 27 inch monitor to use with my Mac.
My Mac is a 13 inch 2011 Macbook Pro.
I am connecting using the Apple Dual Link Adapter.
When I connect and boot-up, I get the grey background with the Apple. No problem. But when the bootup is complete, the picture has disappeared. This leads me to believe that the problem is a OSX problem. I have the latest version of OSX lion.
When I use the same monitor and adapter on Windows / Boot camp, it works flawlessly. More reason for me to believe that it is a OSX Lion problem.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks

I happened onto this thread while searching for a way to connect my T400 to my wife's 27" iMac. What I learned thus far is that Atlona makes a device (AT-DP400) that will convert dual link DVI to Mini DisplayPort. But Atlona says that one's graphic card must support 2560x1440. The T400 doesn't have a DVI out (nor does my current docking station), but it sounds like one can get a docking station that does. But that won't help if my card won't support 2560x1440. So are you saying that there is no way I will be able to use the 27" iMac as a monitor for the T400?

  • Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

I have this (or a similar) issue and I did notice something interesting. After I boot into Windows via Bootcamp (where I have the U3014 specfic driver installed) and then reboot into MacOS X (Mavericks) the monitor works flawlessly.
I would hazard a guess that this means bootcamp is retaining the driver used in Windows. Kind of the reverse of the TB GBE adapter driver issue.
To explain my issue for anyone else: the monitor flicks on and off as if the connection was poor. Connecting via HDMI. Connection is fine and as stated, everything works fine in Bootcamp.

  • Apple ColourSync 20 inch monitor compatible with G5?

Is the Apple ColourSync 20 inch monitor compatible with G5?

Yes, using the DVI to VGA adapter included with your G5 and a VGA to Macintosh Video adapter that you'll have to purchase elsewhere. Griffin has one (the Mac Connect) and you and probably find one elsewhere as well. For full information on monitor compatibility, see:

  • Dual Apple (metal) 20-inch monitors different colours... why?

    Hi,
I have 2x 20 inch monitors. One I bought 9 months ago and the other just recently. I have them both set-up using the same ICC calibration profile (the factory default).
My problem is that the newer monitor has more vivid colours. Shouldn't they both be the same if they are using the same ICC profile and are both less than a year old?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Colin Leask

I have the same exact challenge withthe same 2 2oinch displays..
one seems a bit darker than the other. I to purchased them about 6 to 9 month apart. I have set up individual profiles but the one of them seems darker than the other.
I'm wondering if it would have anything to do with the fact that one is connected to the G5 via DVI and the other is using the DVI to VGA converted..
    thoughts anyone?

  • Does i Mac monitor support HDTV or cable TV connections?

I thinking of purchasing a i Mac system with a 27 inch monitor. I need to know if this monitor will support  a HDTV or HDMI connection from any source especially Direct TV?

    ezbentrider wrote:

I am generalizing what I think you want and I will have to say no it cannot.  Assuming Direct TV is a slave to the entertainment industry like apple is then HDCP copy protection will not allow you to connect your DTV to your computer for HD reception.
If the DTV box has component, composite, or s-video out then those can be used.  But of course that isn't HD.
The Elgato products allow you to pass those connections into your computer.  They also allow you to attach an antenna for over the air reception and that will be HD from those channels that broadcast HD.  I also think Elgato has their own HD service but I am not sure of that.

  • I have a 30 inch monitor on my mac pro tower that just went black, what do I do to fix it?

I have a 30 inch monitor on my mac pro tower that just went black, how can I get it back on?

He's asking what are those things you are using, i.e., ...
What video card are you using?
What version of OSX are you using?
What model of mac pro are you using (e.g., 2010 Mac Pro is 5,1).
    And also,
    Try smc and pram reset.
And see if the monitor lites up if you boot in safe mode.
It is possible your monitor simply failed -- its power supply or something else.
