Connecting a 2nd laptop to wireless router

Hi, Everyone - I have my Mac desktop connected to a WRT54GS wireless router, as well as a Dell laptop connected. All is working fine up till now...
Now I'm trying to connect a 2nd Dell laptop but can't get it to connect! It detects the network, but when you click on "connect" it says "acquiring connection" but then it gives an error saying something about limited access. It is a secured network, BTW.
How can I get this 2nd computer connected?
I also noticed something called "Default Tx Key" which is set to 1 - this key is what the 1st laptop is using. How do I get the 2nd one to be available - if I click on #2 for the default key, it disables #1.
What do I need to do?!! Thanks so much!

use the same key for ALL wireless devices, it is a shared key. so the key for #1 is used on ALL of the laptops.
Regards Simon

My MAC MINI looses the wi-fi connection to a Belkin N wireless router when it goes to sleep or shuts down.  I have to re select the network when re starting or waking up the computer.  I think this just started with LION.  My iPod and iPad have no problem remembering the wireless network.

Thank you BGreg.  That is what I have been doing, and then it works just fine.  I think it was doing the same thing in the previous version of Lion.  I may be incorrect about that.  I upgraded to 10.7.3 a few weeks ago, and then last week I reloaded the combo update, hoping it would help.  Not so.  Thank you for letting me know it is a common problem.  I have tried permissions in Disk Utilities, and in Macaroni, both at least 4 times, plus numerous restarts.  Nothing Improves.  It still can not find the internet when it wakes up or gets up.

  • Connect AE to third party wireless router

    Hi all,
Here's what I'm trying to do:
I have a Airport Extreme base that I want to connect to a non Apple wireless router (ISP wireless router). Anybody managed to do that?
I tried setting up the base as WDS connnecting to my third party wireless router but without any success. I can make all the connections, save my AE settings, but when I choose the newly set AE Base, I'm not connected.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    g

Most likely not, as very few non-AirPort routers can be extended with the AirPorts in a WDS. (ref: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php?title=WDSLinked_routernetwork)
You can, however, connect the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to most non-AirPort routers, via Ethernet, and then set up the AEBS as a bridge.

  • How to connect time capsule to existing wireless router

    Hi
I am struggling to set up my time capsule is it possible to connect it to my existing wireless router or does the time capsule have to replace it as I have tried to do that but I cannot get a connection or signal to the WAN port?
I have the set up instructions but its not helping I am a complete novice at this.
Any help or links much appreciated

    Yes you can.
Just plug the TC into one of the Ethernet ports on your router. WAN port on the TC.
Before you do that, set the TC up to be in 'bridge mode' in AirPort Utility.

  • Can't connect 2nd mac to wireless router

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro set up with airport extreme which runs to my d-link wireless router which is connected to an external modem. I want to set up my second mac to do the same. Do I need to connect it to the network of the first mac? Every time I try I get error message. Or, do I set up an independant network for the second mac, if so how? I can't seem to get anywhere with this.
    thanx

Hello kagamushu. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Just so I understand your network configuration, is it something like the following?
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > D-Link Wireless Router > (wireless) > MacBook Pro
If so, then you only need to configure the AirPort Extreme card on your second Mac to access the D-Link wirelessly.

  • Connect to Airport Express and Wireless Router (Linksys) at the same time?

I have a laptop that connects to a Linksys wireless G (WRT54G) router. I just got an Airport Express to play iTunes wirelessly over my stereo. Is there a way to connect to both the Linksys router and the Airport at the same time - i.e., connect to the internet as I was over the wireless router AND send music wirelessly from my laptop to my stereo using the Airport Express at the same time?

    Why yes, yes you can.

  • Mac mini intermittent wireless connection to a DI-524 wireless router

My friend just got his first Mac, it is a 2.0 Core 2 Duo with Nvidia graphics and 1 GB ram. We have ahd lots of problems but the most troubling is the wireless connection, it connects to a DLink DI-524 router, it connects with full bars, some times it self assigns IP address, other times it connects gets and IP, connects to the internet and then stops working a few minutes latter. The bars for signal are all ways full regardless of problems, any help would be appreciated .
For information both of our iPhones and his laptop have no problems connecting, and staying connected.

problem seems to be with the WPA2 implementation, switch off WPA2 to nothing works no problem, moved it to WPA seems to be ok.

  • DNS Error when adding another laptop to wireless router

I have a laptop running Vista networked to my wireless router.  I want to add another laptop running XP to the network via a Belkin Wireless NIC.  It makes the connection OK, but when I launch IE it returns "Cannot find server or DNS Error" and does not load the web page regardless of which site I try to connect to.  I have tried porting the IE software from the Vista laptop and that did not work.  I tried to connect to the Verizon router address using an Ethernet cable, but it could not access the router.  I downloaded the Inhome Agent and used the software from it to no avail.  I have been on the phone several times with Verizon to verify the IE Options setttings and procedures, but they are not able to help.  I have no problem accessing the Internet from a public WiFi site.  I'm sure it is something simple to fix.  Anyone have a solution?

You should verify your ip configuration.  To do so go to the command prompt:
It can be found under start, then type run
    or
    Click start
    programs
    accessories
    command prompt
    now type: ipconfig /all |more
Look for your wireless card and reply back with the following:
     IP Address
     Subnet Mask
     Default Gateway
     DHCP Server
     DNS Servers

  • Can't connect PB G4 to linksys wireless router when 64bit is established

    Hello-
I have my PB G4 connected (wirelessly) to a linksys wireless router WRTP54G. If I don't have security set on the router, the PB connects. Once I add the security (64bit) and enter the password, the message "There was an error joining the AirPort network” comes up and I can’t connect. I've connected my other laptop to the network (a PC).
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you in advance.

Does your router support any other form of encryption? See if this KB article makes any sense to you.
AirPort: Joining an encrypted wireless network
Personally, I have a sneaky suspicion it has to do with the way your ASCII/hexadecimal password is or isn't being converted to something recognisable by the router. I use a Linksys router at home with a hexadecimal password generated from an ASCII passphrase, and that seems to work fine.

  • Connecting Wired Computers to N750 Wireless Router

I replaced my old router with the N750 / EA3500 wireless router. Connecting the laptops, tablets and cell phones was a breeze. However, I have an issue I can't figure out. I had three desktop computers connected to my old wireless router. I would like to connect the same three computers to the N750. I figured it would be as easy as connecting in the ethernet cable into one of the 4 slots on the back of the N750. I did that - my computer says the cable is disconnected.
What do I do now? There was no Install CD in the box with the N750. I tried to see what would happen if I tried to set up a new network - but it is asking me to use the Modem Set Up CD or use the Windows XP setup up disk - I do not have either one.
How do I get these computers connected to the wireless router? It is important because one of the computers is our "banking" computer and we do all of our bill paying on it. If it is not connected to the internet - we can't pay the bills.
One last thing - I am not a computer expert - so any assistance would need to be basic enough for me to understand or execute.
    Thank you for your help.

a couple of things to look at. First off, when you plug the cable in you should see lights come on on both the router and the pc on the port you connect to. Do you see that happening? if not try another cable. That has to happen before anything else will work. You should be connecting them to the LAN ports and I assume you have a cable already connected from the WAN port to your modem. start there and post back the results.

  • Can I Show Time Connected When Using Netgear DG834 Wireless Router ?

When I had an old SpeedTouch USB Modem I could see the time I had been connected to the internet from a readout in the menu along the top of the monitor.
Is there a way of displaying or ascertaining this information using the Netgear DG834 wireless router?
I have discovered that by opening the Router Satus and clicking on "Connected Status" I can get a window displaying this info - but is there a quicker "automatic" way of doing it?
    Ian.

    Hi Ian,
    Interesting one…
When you connect via a USB modem the computer is 'doing' the connecting using the modem so the computer has the 'time connected' status available locally. In the case of a router it is connected to the internet irrespective of the computer's status; on, off, sleep, or even, connected to the router. The only way you're going to get the info is from the router itself and, unless it has a setting whereby it will automatically 'inform' the computer of its connected time, I think you're going to have to carry on as you are.
I don't know that particular Netgear but used to have a different one until a thunderstorm fried it. I don't remember it having such a setting. My current Belkin certainly hasn't.
I'm quite interested to know why you want this info. Are you on some kind of PAYG tariff?

  • Can not connect the ipad 2 to wireless router. been working fine but some reason not working now being trying to solve this since 4pm today

Can anyone help can not get my ipad to connect to wireless today. has been working fine but all of a sudden will not connect to Router. I have a kindle and a mobile and both of these will connect to the router wireless but the ipad will not.
Been to my parents with the i pad and this will connect to their wireless router.
Can not think of anything else to try

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Also try this - Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Connecting to the web via wireless router trouble

    Hi,
I have had a Mac Book Pro, OX 10.8.4 for a couple of months. Until about 10 days ago I had no problem connecting to the web through a wireless router.  Also connect via iPad and iPhone through the same router without any problems, both are fast, much much faster then the mac book which can't seem to fully open a page if it connects at all.
There are 2 things that I think this might be due to.
I had an app update reminder for OX which I installed and about the same time I installed a Java runtime thing. my work from home connection needs it but it didn't work.
Does anyone know if either of these things might be the reason for the problem and if so what I need to do to resolve the issue?

Allow me to add to this...
I'm now on my third mini (Core Duo). To their credit, the folks at the Apple Store (Towson, MD) have been very kind -- they took the second mini back without even testing it and issued me the third.
Here I sit, with the Mini six inches from the Airport base station, and the signal is varying from 1 to 3 bars. My Powerbook, nearby, is getting full signal (as it should).
Just got off the phone with the manager. He's clearly sympathetic, but he has asked me to bring it back in for testing.
I'm about as hardcore an Apple head as they come -- in fact, I had a letter to the editor published last week condemning Baltimore County schools for dropping Macs. I kept an entire art department at a major magazine from switching to PCs several years ago. I've been responsible for sending tens of thousands of dollars to Cupertino over the past decade.
I really hope Apple corporate does the right thing.

  • Wireless connection - do i need a wireless router or can i go via  macmini?

    Hello all
Bit of a newcomer to the whole networking side of things so excuse my ignorance.
I have a mac mini set up to the internet through a cable modem. Can I use airport to connect my new macbook to the internet via my mac mini or would i have to set up some kind of wireless network to to this? reluctant to shell out for a wireless router or one of the more expensive airport bits of kit if i dont have to!
    any advice much appreciated!

Just reading the wireless posts. Here's a stupid question, although I think I know the answer? I have an iMac G5 running Panther - without an Airport card - connecting to the internet via Ethernet and a cable modem. Can I share this internet connection with my new Leopard MacBook via Airport?
