Connecting a BT Hub

I have a Mac Book Pro OSX and have been using a BT Router for about 4 years after installing the "Router Manager.app" etc using the CD supplied with the BT Router.
I also now have a BT Hub at a different address, I connected the hub up, clicked on the Mac AirPort, input my "Wireless key" into my Mac and the system worked wirelessly almost immediately.  However, I did not run the CD supplied with the Hub because I was afraid that it would over-write or affect my "Router Manager.app".  Note that I also have not pressed the WPS button on the back of my BT Hub.
I have 3 questions;-
1. The CD supplied with the BT HUB:
Do I need to run the CD supplied with the BT HUB and if so, will it over-write or affect the running of my "Router Manager.app" as I wish to use the computer at the two address's ie using the Router at one address and the Hub at the other?
2. WPS:
I do not understand WPS and have not pressed the WPS button on the back of my BT Hub as suggested in the "BT Total Broadband - User guide and troubleshooting" booklet page 6 under "How to connect other computers or devices that don't use a CD".  How do I use the WPS, is my 6 year old Mac Book Pro likely to be "WPS-enabled" as mentioned in the booklet?
I have to input my "Wireless key" into my Mac to access the broadband via the hub, so surely no one else can access the output from the hub without the "Wireless key", so why do I need my "Wireless WPS key PIN" and "Admin password"?
Is the WPS to do with BT's "Family Protection"? I see from the BT Broadband help website that "BT Family Protection" is not yet available for Mac OSX, ie my computer.
Or, will all these questions in item 2, be answered by running the CD supplied with the Hub?
3. Another network:
When I look at the Networks available to my AirPort, in addition to the "BTHub etc" there is also occasionally a "Livebox-a1 etc", is that someone else's WiFi?
EQUIPMENT: BT2500 trio phone, BT line rental, BT broadband, and Safari on MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.4.

Nothing to do with Family Protection

I have BT Infinity at home with the BT modem connected to the phone line and then to a BThub which delivers the wif signal. I have purchased an airport extreme to improve wi fi strength if how do I connect up to hub it states connect modem to WAN on back of Airport Extreme.
Instructions do not mention connection to BT Hub and the BT modem has only one output which you dicsonnect from Hub and connect to airport extreme leaving. Once you do this Hub has no signal.
    How do I rectify
    Paul

you can also set up the Airport extreme to extend the wireless by hitting the wireless tab in the airport menu then click the drop down menu to select extend
Apple's "extend" function is a proprietary setting that was designed to only work with other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that this setting would work with a BT product, or any other manufacturer's product for that matter.
But, I haven't tested this with a BT product...and I suppose anything is possible.
Still, I would be extremely surprised if this worked.
The AirPort Extreme might "join" the BT network if you try this......but the AirPort does not provide any additional wireless signal coverage when it "joins" a wireless network. In fact, it really does nothing when it "joins" a network except enable the USB port.

  • Devices no longer connect to my Hub

We've had our hub for about three years now and have a lot of devices connected to it; an iPhone 5, a iPhone 4, two iPods, a BlackBerry, a Windows phone, a Laptop, a Tablet, a Playstation 3 all through Wireless and a LG Smart TV, BT Vision Box and a Seagate Hard Drive through Ethernet cables. Everything normally works fine.
Last week following an electrical storm several devices could no longer connect to the Hub - the iPhone 5, the Tablet and one of the iPods.
The Laptop is fine and works all over the house as it always does, however, if I use the shortcut on the desktop on the Laptop to get to the Seagate hard drive - I get the message that windows can no longer find it.
My iPhone 5 cannot connect to the Hub - it can see it - but cannot connect to it. I have to drop it a connect to my own Hub through BT Fon and then it works fine!
I've asked my iPhone and the other devices which can no longer connect to the Hub to forget the hub and to get them to search for it again. They can all see it, but can't connect - not getting as far as asking for the wireless key.
I've powered off the Hub and left it for a couple of minutes. I've tried re-setting it and I've been into the Hub Manager to see if it looks like any changes have been made to it. Nothing seems to work.
I haven't changed the channel on the Hub as it doesn't appear to be a signal strength issue (the iPhone 5 shows the Hub on maximum strength everywhere in the house).
    Can anyone help please????

    Hi Guys,
I've done a factory reset on the huband it doesn't seemed to have changed anything. My iPhone 5 still can't connect to it, I can't use the shortcut for the Seagate drive and the Hub no longer apppears as part of our home network when I look it up on my PC.
Below is a screen shot of the Hub Manager. Matt-PC is my laptop which is connected to the Hub via Wi-Fi. There are currently three Ethernet Cables plugged into the back of the Hub - the Seagate Drive, the TV and a BT Vision box.
    Any other ideas?

  • LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP m276nw no network connection with Linksys HUB

    Hello
I've setup my LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP m276nw to connect to my home network using a wired connction.
When connected directly to my router the connection initializes and successfully recieves an ip address. I've been able to access all the network function connected to my router directly either wired or wirelessly.
I also have an old Linksys hub and when the printer is connected to the hub, it does not initialize the network connection. The hub works with every other sevice in my network, including a few game consoles and a Mac Mini.
Is there an advance network setting I should be looking at?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Remove any wired connection before attempting to connect via wireless.
Print off the printers network configuration and check the settings against your routers settings.
Ensure that router and printer are using the same frequency.
Review this HP posted information once you have the above information in hand.

  • Connecting to BT hub

    Hi,
Had an BT hub Internet connection for while & never had an issue.
Just upgraded to IOS6 and I keep loosing connection to the hub - when I try & reconnect I am unable to & have to reset the hub.
Once it's reset I can connect again, but a few hours later looses the signal & I have to reboot again
I have deleted the Internet connection from the iPhone & set up again but the problem still persists.
Not too sure if its an IOS6 issue or is the fault with BT & the hub?
    Any thoughts gratefully accepted

    UPDATE
This appears to be a compatibility issue with iPhone 5S's (ive tested 2) and this BT Business Hub 5.
I turned the wireless off on the Hub, set it to be a modem only. Then plugged a third party wireless router into the Hub to give wireless back which i have set with the exact same SSID / Password that the BT Hub 5 was using) it is fine and doesn't cause any problems at all.
So it looks like it is a problem with the BT Hub 4 / 5? Compatibility issue with iPhones?
Has other people had this issue?

There are a number of posts related to copying issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
    Search for: security
    Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    Click OK
     To disable Windows Search:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name. From the AirPort Utility, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab. On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • How can I connect my BT Hub 5 into a room that doe...

Hello, I have recently upgraded my broadband to fibre optic and upgraded my Hub to BT Hub 5. I have a problem with connecting to the hub wirelessly, I have my computer and consoles set up on the top floor of my house ( 3rd floor ) but the wireless signal is too weak. Is there any possible way I can move my Hub else where ( possibly the same room as my set up? ) using a wired connection? I only have 1 master socket in my house and it's in the bottom floor. Is there anything I can buy that can extend my broadband wire so I can move my Hub? Help!!!

  • HP Photosmart C3180 connected via USB hub

I am using an HP C3180 printer connected via USB to a Mac PowerBook G4. When connected directly to the PowerBook G4 the printer works just fine. Trying to connect it via a Belkin 4 port USB (1.1) hub ----the printer is not seen when connected via the hub. Can the C3180 be connected via a hub ? Must it be USB 2.0 if it is a hub ?

I have the HPC309a, but had the same problem with my airport a while back.
If you have a password on your airport network and try to print, if this works and you want to put the password back on, you'll have to go through a setup process, that is a pain, but at least you'll know what the hold up is.
Also: Check your firmware on your airport and see what version you have. The new 7.5.2 is giving people problems. You can downgrade firmware and try that. I am running 7.5.1 and all is well.
Finally, I dumped all HP downloaded software (uninstalled it all, this did it in the end for me) as Apple has their own. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669

  • HT1212 After working perfectly for two years my iTouch has suddenly stopped connecting to my Hub.  I have tried everything I can think of to get it working again but to no avail.  My desktop computer still works through the same hub

After working perfectly for two years my iTouch has suddenly stopped connecting to my Hub although my desktop computer still connects.  I have tried everything I can think of, including suggestions off Google/You Tube but nothing makes any difference.  Any ideas.  Surely it is not fit for the scrap heap after two years, but is clearly no use as it is.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • PR0BLEM:One computer will not connect thru the hub

umm...well the problem is that there are 2 computers connected thru the hub but one says Limted or No Connectivy the other works fine we called the ISP and they said its the modem but its reciving a connection what could be wrong?

typically only one PC will go online through the router....what you need to confirm with your ISP is , how many IP's are they assigning to you at any given point of time....In case it's just one IP....I'd suggest that you get a router instead of using a HUB.

  • How to share a PPPoE connection with a hub?

    Hello here,
    I have the following configuration:
    1. PowerMac with MacOS Tiger (latest update)
    2. PPPoE internet connection
    3. A simple 8 ports ethernet hub
My question is: is it possible to share the Internet connection to the other ports in the hub by making the Mac as a router? I remember I was able to do it with MacOS 9 in the past (with a shareware program)!
Any idea is very welcome. Thank you in advance.
    Sincerely,

It is possible and rather easy... BUT you either need a mac with two network ports... one to connect to your DSL modem and one to the hub or you need to connect the DSL modem over USB and the use the other network port to connect to the hub.
An easy and cheap solution would be to buy a cheap router (you can get them under 50$) and it has normaly a nice and easy web interface to control firewall etc build in. Easier then handling all of the different parts in OS X.

  • Wirelessly Connected to Home Hub 3, Cannot Get Int...

    Hello,
BT Infinity installed on 6th June Home Hub 3 (type B).  Previously on BT Broadband.
One laptop computer connects to the hub but will not connect to the Internet wirelessly (connects wired).  Running Windows 7.  Cannot surf, Skype.
Have been on to tech support (for hours!) they tried all the usual (change channel, update drivers, took control of laptop remotely, everything possible done).
Still not working, although did get a very brief sporadic connection.
Computer in question (Samsung Netbook, "n" connection) worked perfectly on old BT Broadband, works out of the house on wifi connections.
Has anyone had this problem?  Are there any solutions?
    Thanks.

Hi guys you most likely have this solved already but just incase I have recently encountered the same problem with my 'netbook'
I have tried everything from installing new drivers to creating a 'disable' registry key for IPV6 .. The way I solved this and hope it works for you was...
Go to you your sharing point and open wireless network connection.
    Click properties
In the dialogue box uncheck 'internet protocol version 6 (tcp/ipv6)
    Then above it click 'configure'
Another dialogue box will open informing you that you have made changes.
    Click 'yes'
This will open up in my case 'RealTek' driver.
    Click on 'advanced' tab
    'Wireless mode'
Go to right hand side of dialogue box and select 'value' drop down box
    Select 'IEEE 802.11b/g'
These deselects the 'n' router aspect as I believe our network adapters can't function with this.
    Now click 'ok'
    Let computer re-connect to router.
    Now try opening web pages.
    Problem solved (",)
    Hope this helps guys.
If you want to disable the IPV6 through registry I will put up details on how to do this but I believe this should suffice.

    Hi
How do I do this if I can't get on to the Internet properly???
If you follow jjgraphics advice above and connect a wire (ethernet cable) from your hub to your PC/laptop you should be able to connect to the internet.
Funny enough I lost my wireless connection on my  home hub2 last night.
Even though http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider insidder could still see my wireless signal was on a clear channel.
Using ethernet wired connection I was able to still connect to the internet.
I used the button on the side of the Home hub2 and turned both laptops off but still not able to connect to the internet using wireless... even re-entered my wireless key.
The solution was to turn the power off the Home Hub for a minute or so and on turning the hub back on everything worked again.
Btw don't forget Christmas lights can cause wireless problems.

  • Can I print on non-USB printers connected to Ethernet hub?

I just connected an Airport Extreme base station to my DSL modem and pre-existing ethernet hub. (The old hub connects my old G4 running OS 9.2 to an HP 5MP laser printer and a Canon Pixma IP 4000.) Then I booted my brand new MacBook 13 and established Internet connectvity through the base station. My question is, should I expect the Airport Extreme base station to also recognize the existence of the two printer attached to my old ethernet hub? Or does the Mac Book have access only to printers that are wired to the base station?
    Any advice appreciated.
    MacBook 13   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
MacBook 13   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   pre-existing ethernet hub attaching G4/466 MHz/OS9.2 with HP 5MP laser printer and a Canon Pixma IP

Airport Extreme has a WAN port (should be connected to DSL), and a LAN port - that's where you should connect the hub. Then your network will be mostly like it was before and the printers will be recognized.
