Connecting a DAT player to iMac G5

I want to connect a DAT player/recorder to my iMac G5. It looks like I might have to do this through a coax cable. Does anyone know if garageband, or maybe Soundtrack or iTunes, will acknowledge the files? Really, I could just use some suggestions for a method for converting the audio to save and listen to on my computer. Thanks!

You can't copy the 'files' from a DAT machine in the way that you can from, for example, an MP3 recorder. You have to connect the analogue or digital output from the DAT machine and copy the recording in real time, recording it into GaragBand or an audio editor.
If the DAT machine has an optical (TOSlink) output you can connect that to your iMac's optical input. However, note that DAT usually records at 48kHz: GarageBand only recognizes 44.1kHz. Your best bet in this case would be to record into an audio editor and convert the resultant file to 44.1.

  • I m trying to transfer my data from my imac to my macbook pro using transfer manager i m connected to wiifi it says that the process will take above 55 hours ? I have only 38gb to tranfere ? Why so long isnt normal

    Hi
I m trying to make a transfer to all my data from my imac to my macbook pro with wireless ... And using my transfer manager as requested but it show 55 hours time to download ? Whats wrong ?

So there are several factors that may point to why your transfer is going to take so long.  First and foremost it is going to be the type/speed of wireless you're using.  Your router and computers should all be using the same type of wifi (ie 802.11G or 802.11N).  That will ensure the best "theoretical" transfer speeds across your network.  Depending on what type of router you have and what type of wireless cards your computers have that will determine the max theoretical transfer speeds you could achieve.  For instance the fastest available wifi is currently 802.11N at approximately 300MB/S maximum transfer speed.  Realistically you'll probably see about 10% of that.
Secondly the speed of the computers and their hard drives will also play a large factor in the transfer time.  If your computer has a slower processor or uses a lot of virtual ram (which uses the hard disc drive) you will experience slower transfer speeds.
As seventy one said you will experience MUCH faster transfer speeds over ethernet.  You will especially noticie faster speeds over gigabit ethernet.  Gigabit speeds require both computers to have a gigabit ethernet port and a router with a gigabit ethernet switch.
With all of that being said depending on other variables the connection may speed up and slowdown depending on current network traffic and your transfer time may increase/decrease accordingly.  I would suspect it won't take 55 hours.

  • Is there a cable that can be used to connect a vhs player to an iMac?

    Greeting all,
I am trying to find out if there is a cable that can be used to connect a vhs player to an iMac? I have some old tapes that I would like to transfer and convert to dvd.
    Thanks

If you have access to a digital video camera that has pass thru capability you can use it in lieu of the ADVC110.  Plug the VCR into the camera and the camera into the Mac and import into iMovie.

Problem: slow connection. I have an iMac (2007) running on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I just had my internet speed increased from 1 to 3 Mbps but my connection slowed down considerably. Do I have to change any setting on the computer, and how?

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit.  ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering.  I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.

  • My time machine wont back up and keeps saying The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/karen's iMac.sparsebundle" is already in use.

My Apple Time Capsule stopped backing up a few weeks ago and after upgrading to Mavericks on my IMac I keep getting the message:
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/karen’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.
I have no idea what to do and am new to having a Mac -
Also a friend had orginally set my wifi up to be called "Karen's wifi" and it has also stopped connecting to the wi fi also so am using ethernet connect.
Can someone please give me an idiot's step by step guide please so my back will work again?
    Thank you

    Locate the Time Capsule
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Count to ten
Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try another backup
If you are having WiFi connection problems, you should start another separate post for that issue.

  • What will happen after disabling iCloud and connecting my iPhone to my iMac?

Now that I disabled iCloud on my iPhone, indeed the data is still available on my iPhone.
But now I tried to disable iCloud on my iMac, the data is lost.
Is it safe to connect my iPhone to my iMac and will my data (from my iPhone) be restored on my iMac? Or will I los all data?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

The other 2 applications open like normal. All three give me info.
    Pages     ver.4.1          265.8MB
    Numbers ver. 2.1          89.5MB
    Keynote ver. 5.1.1        238.1MB
They all list Apr 3 as the last time opened. That was when I upgraded to Mavericks. I certainly used pages and numbers since then as I have alot of my work files on this computer?
Just very odd. I did find my original iWorks disc from when I bought the computer. I'm assuming i can reinstall it. Will try that. Thank you for all your help. Would still like to know what did happen?

  • How do I access on my MacBook Pro data from my iMac stored on Lacie external hard drive.

i am attempting to use my MacBook Pro with the files and data from my iMac which is in the shop. On my iMac I backup regularly with Time Machine to my LaCie external hard drive. When I open my Lacie to my laptop the only data I see is from the laptop--I can't find the iMac data. I tried getting in via Time Machine--same problem. I tried searching through Finder--same problem. I tried logging into my laptop as the other user--same problem. both macs have latest operating system. Both are seriously souped up with plenty of storage and memory.

Connect the LaCie HDD to the MBP.  Click on the icon.  Is there a folder with the title Backups.backupdb?  That is where the Time machine data is stored.
    Ciao.

  • Connecting 5.1 speakers to iMac Core Duo

    Hi,
I have a Cambridge SoundWorks Ensemble IV that I got as a gift. I don't have a 5.1 digital receiver but I'm interested to know the ways of connecting all 5.1 speakers to my iMac Core Duo without buying a receiver. Is there a way to do this? Also, I have a Pioneer DV-K302CD (NTSC/PAL) DVD player which has support for DD 5.1 and DTS outputs (coaxial, component and optical).
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks.

My Pioneer DVD Player has a Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder. Can I connect my DVD player to the digital out on my iMac and then connect my Ensemble IV 5.1 speakers to the DVD Player? Also, I would like to toggle between my DVD Player and iMac when playing DVDs and ouput to the 5.1 speakers. In other words, when the DVD Player is playing DVD, it should output to the 5.1 speakers and when my iMac is playing DVDs, it should output to the same 5.1 speakers. Is there a switch that can do this?

  • How to connect my iPhone to my iMac trough bluetooth?

How to connect my iPhone to my iMac trough bluetooth?

If you have a wifi router you can set up/turn on the wifi... set the user name and password wifi in your router... open wifi in general settings on the iPhone... log into your router, user name and password. (If your don't know how to turn on the router wifi. Google the router make and model and you will find instructions on how to do this.)
If you don't have a wifi router and your Mac has wifi capabilities you can hookup to the internet over wifi from your Mac to your iPhone.
System Preferences on the Mac... Network... Wifi... Advanced tab... Hit the '+' to add a user name and password...
Make sure you use WPA2 Personal for Security... Hit ok... Turn on the wifi... Same as above with the iPhone, log into your wifi settings on the iPhone.
*Important point... Use WPA2 for the encryption/Security setting. If you use anything else for this setting, your wifi can be hacked.

  • How to connect JVC DVd player and video cassette recorder to QIP 7100 and Panasonic TC-32lx44

What cables do I need to connect my DVD/VCR recorder through my QIP 7100 to see on my TV? I would appreciate any assistance with this since I am a novice.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You cannot run ANY signal through a Set top box to a Television. The only input on the boxes that is actually functional is the coaxial cable. The only way your are going to connect your DVD player to the TV is via one of the AV inputs on the Television itself.
Hopefully your Television has at least 2 sets of AV inputs, because you are going to need them. 1 for the VCR and 1 for the DVD player.
Depending upon the TV, VCR and DVD player, the connections possible are:
1). HDMI cable from TV to DVD if the DVD player has HDMI and the TV has a 2nd HDMI input. It is very unlikely your VCR supports HDMI.
2). Component Video (RGB) plus Audio AV cables from audio and component outputs on the DVD player to a set of component and coresponding audio inputs on the Television. It is unlikely that your VCR supports component video.
3). S-VHS cable from DVD player or VCR  to S-VHS input on the TV (if there is one), and audio AV cables from the audio outputs on the DVD/VCR player to the corresponding audio input on the TV for the S-VHS cable. If S-VHS is not available, you can use composite video instead. HDMI and Component video will give you the best picture and composite video will give you the lowest quality picture, but depending upon the equipment, your VCR may not have an S-VHS output available.

  • Data in my iMac address book and iCloud contacts do not match.

The data in my iMac address book and iCloud contacts are different. How can I get my iCloud data to accruately reflect that of my iMac address book? It appears to be an initial synchronization issue. New entries synchronize fine. Appears that initial entries in my Address Book are not showing up in the iCloud Contacts list. Hense, My iPhone coantacts don't match those in my iMac.
Is there a way to clean out my iCloud contacts on reload/re-sychronize it with my iMac Address Book?

Nuts isn't it. This seems to have been an issue snce dAY 1.  iT FROSTS ME THAT THERE IS NO SIMPLE QUICK WAY TO UPDATE OR CORRECT the data in both programs simultaneously.. Thats why i decided to just put everytning into the i cloud address brook, and let the one other sit and rot.
then i got smart and said, why don't I delete the outlookaddress book files. and save on confusion.
result - both addresses books  and their contents became invisible to outlook.!!!!!! and I can find no way to correct this...to go back to the imperfect world that was.
I did get the outlook contact s back from an archive - but any thing from icloud has become inaccessible from outlook.  (fortunately i can get the vcard infformation directly from icloud. but I can't access it from outlook mail.... means no replying, forwarding etc - and a time swallowing nuisance..
