Connecting a Dell 1100 laser printer to iMacs

I have a two iMacs (one is brand new and one is 4 years old) and want to connect a Dell 1100 laser printer to them. Is this possible to do and if yes what software do I need (and where can I get it)?
Thanks!

Download and install the Samsung ML-1610 GDI printer for MacOS X.
http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/samsung-gdi/
This driver will also work perfect with your Dell Printer! (It does work fine with the Dell 1100 at my work!)
First install this (5.6 MB):
espgs-7.05.5-0.ppc.dmg
And then this (76 KB):
samsung-gdi-foomatic-1.0.ppc.dmg
Hopefully this solved your problem.

  • HT4356 Hello I have a Netgear R4500 router and connected to Dell 1720 laser printer. Question how can i print from my iphone 5?

need some in configuring to print from iphone 5 to dell 1720 using r4500 router

There shouldn't be any configuring necessary.
As long as your iPhone and printer are both connected to the same wireless network it should just work.
Go to the picture/document you want to print, select the options button (usually looks like a square with an arrow coming out of it) and you should have an option to 'print' or something along those lines.
If the option is not coming up, and you're sure they're both connected to the same network, then it's possible that Dell and apple don't like each other. I seem to remember hearing that Airprint may only work with HP printers?

  • Dell 1320c Laser Printer

Which driver do I use for a Dell 1320c laser printer? Fusion can see and install the driver on Windows 7 but Lion doesn't see the printer.

I inherited a Dell 1320c from my father in law (too big for his study).  My heart sank when I read about the lack of compatibility of Dell printers with Mac Osx.  So I hit the web more in hope than expectation.  After an hour or 2 of searching through some rather complex explanations of how to connect the printer using IP, I almost gave up as the inherited printer doesn't have the optional ethernet port.  I then came across a usefull discussion forum, which did the trick for me by enabling me to link the colour laser using USB to my Airport Extreme.
If you are using an Airport Extreme it is very straightforward.  I downloaded what appears to be the normal driver from this page http://www.justanswer.com/mac-computers/437pf-hi-need-connect-dell-1320c-printer -new-imac-27inch.html
I plugged the printer into the USB port on the Airport Extreme. I then installed the printer in the same way as any other printer through the Print & Fax option in System Preferences.  I simply selected the + sign on the printer list.  I then chose the Dell Color Laser 1320c whcih was on the list shown.  I could then select the right driver in the Print Using pull down list, Dell Color Laser 1320c v1.1 - the one I had downloaded.
    Voila!
If you don't have Airport then this might be a good excuse to upgrade to an Airport network.  That way you get to keep using a fully functional colour laser printer and get the Extreme for the price of a fully Mac compatible printer. No page feed problems, nothing.
It is also worth noting thst through the addition of an old 4 port USB hub I had languishing in a box from my days of using a pc that by plugging that into the Extreme USB port I was able to continue using the HP Photosmart printer I used to have plugged directly into the Extreme USB port in tandem with the Dell laser.
Technology tales rarely end so simply and sweetly for me, so I thought I would share it.

  • Dell 1700 Laser Printer - Setting up on a Lion Network

Here is how I found to get the Dell 1700 Laser Printer to work on a mac on a network print server .
    1) First of all, make sure that whatever print server you are using that the IP address is working. I am using  a TP-Link network print server that allows one usb connection. Most of these print servers are windows based so it's best to use a pc using windows to install these properly.
    2) Once the print server is set up connect the Dell 1700 printer to the usb connection of the print server and turn on the printer. Your print server will most likely have a little light that turns on when the usb device is active.
    3) Now go to software update and make sure you have the latest "LEXMARK" drivers...or go to the Lexmark website and download the latest Lexmark e232 driver for mac Yes, Lexmark,  Dell and Lexmark had the same printers for the 1700..
    4) Once you have the Lexmark drivers go to the system preferences pane and click the Print & Scan utility.
    5) In the print & scan utility click Add printer or the little "+" sign on the left
    6) Once clicked, a window pops up and if your print server is working properly you should see Dell Dell Laser Printer 1700-xxxxxx. If you don't see this recheck your print server. You will see the printer name in the "Default" window.... STAY IN THAT WINDOW. You don't need to go to the IP window.
    7) In the Default window where you see Dell Laser Printer name click on the Dell Laser Printer 1700 that is listed. Beneath there is a pull down menu called "Print Using" click on that and select Lexmark e232 from the list of printer drivers. Once you have done this click "ADD". The computer will go get automatically what it needs from the internet to make the Lexmark e232 driver work with the Dell. (so make sure you have an active internet connection).

Thanks, Rocky - this worked for me on Snow Leopard too.
The key thing seems to be E232 - and NOT other Lexmark printer names, as incorrectly referred to in other threads.

  • HT1338 Hi I have a dell colour laser printer ref 3115 cn. I have tried to load driver etc so I can use it with my new Macbook Pro. Its won't let me do it. How do I do it?

Hi I have a Dell colour laser printer ref 3115 cn. I have tried laoding the driver buy my MacBook Pro wont allow it?
    Any idea's?

The Dell specifications indicate that this is a multifunction device.  The printing portion is supposed to be able to use either PostScript or PCL 6.  You should be able to use a generic color PostScript PPD or use the generic pxlcolor driver from OpenPrinting.org.  There is not much chance of getting scanning to work with OS X.
The Gutenprint drivers will not provide what you need.  They only support balck and white printing for laser printers.

  • Dell 1700N Laser Printer?

My church recently purchased a Mac Mini (OS X Lion) for the control center of our sound room.  We have a Dell 1700N Laser Printer with which to print labels for the CDs of sermons, songs, etc.  I found a driver, the Lexmark E232 that I found online many people had good luck with it.  I downloaded it and tried it, and after doing so I clicked the button on the Add Printer, System Preferences.  It doesn't list anything, and the printer is plugged in and the driver is downloaded.  Any experience or help you can give me would be awesome!  Thanks!

I have exacly the same problem; I was not able to fix it

  • Black and white laser printer for Imac running 8.6 os

Does anyone know of a laser printer for my older Imac running 8.6 os?

    jackson hole 88,
The 300-320-360 series was nice and 10 ppm but no ethernet. Jump right to the 600 series, including the 16/600 or the 640. Find a recycler that refurbishes them. You can get printers there for as low as $25. Buy two and have spare parts. Toner is still available for that series at affordable prices.

  • Suggestions for a laser printer for iMac Intel Core 2 duo?

    Hi all,
I'm tired of changing expensive ink cartridges, mostly because they dry out before I get to use them up. I find that I mostly do B & W text printing so don't need color and am thinking of getting an inexpensive B & W laser printer, figuring that the laser cartridges last a lot longer than ink ones. It would be nice to have one that could also do copying like a Xerox machine and in fact I saw some today at Staples which were all under $200.
My question is which one will actually work reliably with my iMac 17" Intel Core 2 Duo (1 gb RAM, 2GHtz)?
So is there anyone out there who has an iMac like mine as well as such a printer with which they are well satisfied?
    TIA
    Rick

    Hi Doug,
I can't locate your exact model (1013) on the net, only references to parts for it. I like the "plug and play" feature but it's possible that your model is no longer made. Too bad, because that would have been my choice I WILL, however, have the sledgehammer handy when I finally get a laser printer!
    Thanks.

  • IMac won't print over IP on Dell 3100cn laser printer

I have an iMac with Lion and can't get it to print using an IP address.  I can connect it via usb and it will print, but when I set it up using the IP address I get the following message "The optical photoconductor needs to be replaced".  I've updated relevant software, deleted and readded the printer, but nothing seems to work.  Anyone have a suggestion?

    Please see this thread
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16000090#16000090
This issue is ongoing and not related to your printer but with the printing subsystem of MacOS, it has been reported and hopefully a fix is in the works.
I also see you have been able to print now. The Dell 3100CN only supports printing by LPD under MacOS.

  • Inspiron 1505 can't connect to HP 1320 laser printer through Airport Expres

    I need help!
I've gone through all the articles that I can find, and I still can't get my new Dell 1505 Laptop to print on my HP 1320 which is connected to my airport express. Both my Macs are fine with it. And the PC can connect to the internet via the airport.
I followed the instructions just posted on how to connect to Windows XP (which is the operating system of the PC I just bought) but even though I follow all the instructions, when it gets to printing a test page it won't work! The "wizard" spits me into the troubleshooting forum which of course helps me not.
What can I try next? Please help!

    Welcome to the discussions.
Have a look at iFelix's link, it should solve your problems.

  • Connecting Canon LBP9100cdn Laser printer via ethernet/wifi hub

I have connected my Canon LBP9100cdn Laser printer via ethernet through a modem hub. We can connect either through direct ethernet hard connection or wifi, on OS10.8.3. Occasionally it just stops finding the printer. Have latest CUPS driver, have reset printing system and reinstalled driver and reinstalled printer. Turned printer off and on. Sometimes it takes a few goes to get the right random sequence, but this time I just can't get it to connect. Other computers on the system, both ethernet hard wired and wifi can still connect- all on the same operating system.

When you get this lost connection, try opening Safari (or web browser of choice) and enter the IP address of the 9100 as the URL. This should connect to the internal web page of the printer. If this does connect, then see if you can resume the queue to print again. In theory, if the print queue on the Mac pauses, then the web browser test should also fail to connect to the printer.

  • Laser printer for Mac OS X 10.7.3 airprint

Need a laser printer for iMac and Macbook Air enable airprint.
    Thank you

My question is "Can I use a wireless laser printer wirelessly regardless of the airprint capability?"
    Regards
Sure there are quite a few Wi-Fi black & white laser printers for personal use. I would concentrate on HP, Brother, and Samsung. You can also change your router to one that has a USB port on it, then you can get a non Wi-Fi printer, plug it in via USB to the router and you have a wireless printer. I did this with my HP LaserJet 1012 and connected it to my Apple Airport Extreme router. There are a number of other routers that do the same thing.

  • How to connect to a network dell laser printer 3010cn?

I have the drivers on the original CD but the Mac does not launch it and just give the option in the submenu to eject or get info...not usefull really! If anyone have a solution they are more than welcome to provide them.
For info , the printer is shared on a network which can be use on the second computer (Windows) but not on the Mac...
Thank you for your precious help .

    Hi again Fred,
Ya a little research and I see there doesn't seem to be any Mac support for that printer. Too bad. I guess a good reason to stick with the various printer manufacturers who don't care about which operating system you use (Epson, Brother, Canon, etc.).
As Luvlabs mentioned, Brother has some nice printers that work great with the Mac. My mother-in-law bought a MFC-490CW she runs off her Windows XP system, but it is a wireless printer, so our HP laptop and my new iMac all see and print to that printer great, even though it is on the other side of the house. Of course this one isn't a laser printer, but instead an ink jet, but the point is Brother appears to fully support Macs with their software and drivers.
    Best of luck,
    Patrick
