Connecting a Dell U3014 monitor to a Mac Pro

Just got the Mac Pro and the Dell U3014 monitor. I'm using DP / MDP cable that came with the monitor, connecting to a TB port in the Mac Pro. The message I receive in the monitor is " No display port cable".  Help anyone?
Thanks!

  • Connecting two Dell Ultrasharp Monitors to Late 2014 Mac Mini

Hello, I want to connect another Dell UltraSharp Monitor, (identical), to my Mac Mini, late 2014 model. However, there's only one HDMI port, and two Thunderbolt ports, can I connect two monitors to this machine?

Yes. You can use the thunderbolt ports with either DVI or HDMI adapters to connect the screens to.

  • Cannot connect LG monitor to my mac pro running bootcamp

Any ideas why I cannot connect my LG monitor to my Mac Pro which is running Bootcamp?

I have managed to connect this old monitor using a DVI to VGA connector and a vga to BNC adapter.
This gives me a picture but as the max resolution of the broadcast monitor is 1024 x 768, its a pain because if i select "mirror" in display prefs, the mac screen resolution looks horrible at the same settings as the monitor. As the monitor is clearly old and has no 16:9, Hd or decent inputs, am I better off just going out and buying a decent plasma/lcd screen with HDMi inputs and use this to check approximate colours etc?
I realise that its not the same a fully fledged HD Broadcast monitor but none of the footage is for broadcast. It is for DVD (of which most surely watch on a flat screen tele nowadays or streamed over the net.

  • 3 monitors on a mac pro 4.1

    Hello
In trying to run 3 monitors on a mac pro 4.1, I have recently bought a Radeon 5870 card from Apple as advised by a 'genius' at the local apple store.
This setup does not work, even giving worse performance than the 4770 with 2 of the monitors (NEC 30" & Apple cinema 23").
Both these cards require 2 power connectors so adding another doesn't seem possible, however the 5770 uses only 1, so is it possible to run two 5770 and bring my spare Apple 23" in to use for a 3 monitor desktop? I have tried lots of permutations with both mountain lion and snow leopard, zapped pram, reset etc to no avail.
    Any advice welcome!
    Thanks

you probably didn't need 5870 as the 5770 also can drive 3 monitors but it is the screen resolution and adapters that make all the difference.
I assume as there was no Apple 4770 that you meant the 4870 that was a BTO at one point.

It's not the USB data that is needed to run three displays. It's the extra POWER. If you read the Apple article, they say the only solution they endorse is their US$100 Dual-Link adapters. Check the table at the end of the article.
Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac Pro (Mid 2010): Supported display configurations
Readers here have found that if you have two Brand-X Powered adapters, aka active adapters, it also works fine. These do not always require another USB. If designed recently, they can pick up a power pin in the Mini DisplayPort interface.
AMD (makers of the 5770 and 5870) lists the qualified POWERED adapters that meet their most stringent requirements. Look down the page and you will find several qualified Active Mini DisplyPort to various others, such as HDMI. These adapters are available from other outlets, such as Amazon, sometimes for far less than the Apple adapters.

The other desktop monitor will plug directly into the DVI port on the card and the 40 inch tv will still connect via HDMI over the second Mini Display port.
That will work only if you use an active Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
The only (someone) have found to work (2009)
    http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/337561577/miniactive_display_port_tohdmi.html
but you should confirm that they are really active before buying 500 of them.
You can connect a DVI to HDMI adapter or cable to an active Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter but that won't give you any audio over HDMI. You could connect the DVI displays to the Mini DisplayPorts with active adapters and use a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter from the DVI port to the TV.
If you want audio via HDMI, you can use audio from the Mac Pro's optical output with this DVI to HDMI converter:

  • I have a 30 inch monitor on my mac pro tower that just went black, what do I do to fix it?

I have a 30 inch monitor on my mac pro tower that just went black, how can I get it back on?

He's asking what are those things you are using, i.e., ...
What video card are you using?
What version of OSX are you using?
What model of mac pro are you using (e.g., 2010 Mac Pro is 5,1).
    And also,
    Try smc and pram reset.
And see if the monitor lites up if you boot in safe mode.
It is possible your monitor simply failed -- its power supply or something else.

  • HT4628 My ipad and iphone connect and recognize wifi signal, but my mac pro running 10.6.8 does not  recognize or list the wiifi signal as option, any ideas?

    Hi,
In Austria, iphone and ipad "see" and connect to wifi signal no problem but mac pro in same room will not even allow me to choose the same wifi signal.  It seems almost blocked.  Havectried everything it seems by restarting, deleting preferred accoints, etc.  software is updated but running osx 10.6.8
    Thanks for any help!

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • How Can I Connect 2 External Display Monitors to a MacBook Pro? Help

I want to know if I can (and How to) connect 2 external display monitors to a MacBook Pro... late 2006 & the new Unibody MBP.
    I'll appreciate

Requires additional hardware - the Matrox DualHead2Go. For the late 2006, you'd need the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, and for the unibody you'd need the DualHead2Go DP Edition, with appropriate cabling (and a DVI-to-VGA adapter for the late 2006 MBP).

  • How do connect my sony bravia tv as a monitor screen for mac pro

How do I connect my Sony Bravia tv as a monitor for my MacBook Pro? I have an hdmi lead with an adapter to the computer and get a picture of factory setting cosmos with some of the folders of my desktop going off the side of the tv screen.

If you have the right cable, and have set the right input on your Sony, then you need to adjust one thing.  Go to System Preferences>Displays>Set Mirroring.  I think you've got it set to Extended desktop, which means the Sony is just a HUGE extension of your Mac OSX desktop.
    That should fix your issue.

  • Can't connect my Dell Inspiron 1200 to my Mac airport

I just spent X amount of dollars to try to connect my Dell to my Mac airport for nothing. I keep trying to connect to my wireless network, putting my password and it keeps telling me that it can't connect to my preferred network. The person who fixed my computer told me that my Dell worked fine at his place which means that it's a question of compatibility between my airport and my Dell. What do you suggest I do to fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is fine.. but it should be in WAP mode.. depending on the brand.. this is called bridge by airport.. but that name is seldom used of router bridge.. since with wireless routers it is so easily confused with wireless bridge.
But any wireless router is in effect a router plus a WAP. You can buy a plain WAP for twice the price of the cheap router which is more useful. This is just product marketing.. and is there to trick people into paying more for less.
A cheap wireless.. eg any of the bottom series of TP-Link will cost you less than $50 in whatever currency you use.
Set the router in WAN bypass mode. This means set a fixed IP address of the same range as the airport uses.. eg if at default your AE is 10.0.1.1 and has dhcp set to 2-200. So make the new router 10.0.1.250 and turn off the dhcp server in the router.
Plug ethernet from LAN on the router to LAN on the airport.
Voila.. you have a WAP that will work fine next to the Airport.
Set the wireless channels if you need to but auto should be fine.. spacing the two routers a couple of meters is also good.
Any issues ask as specific as possible.

  • How do I connect 2nd monitor to 2010 Mac Pro?

Hi all, I'd appreciate some help as I'm a little out of my element.
I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro tower and I'm looking to add a second monitor to it for my video editing.
There is no second monitor port in the back that I'm aware of, just the one for my primary monitor.
Is there a possible way to connect a second monitor to this machine? If it requires adding another video card or something else special, links are appreciated.
Processor  3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  8 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
    Thank you in advance

You don't need another card or USB adapter.
Your current graphics card can run up to three displays.  It has one dual-link DVI-I port and two Mini DisplayPorts.
If your new display uses Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort, you can use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort cable
