Connecting a direct tv hd dvr to wrt54gs

I want to connect my direct tv HD DVR to my router (WRT54GS) but the DVR manual says the rj45 port provides 5 volts DC will this hurt the router? Thanks Matt

If it says it is compatible with ethernet(RJ45), then it won't hurt router, as it is meant to be used like that

I have an imac running OS10.6.8 and an Apple laserwriter 16/600PS.  Is it possible to connect these directly without networking?  Where can I find the printer driver?

It turned out that WD is the big bad guy in this game.
According the data rescue company where I asked for an inspection, both of the drives had their reader head loose. And in the one, which was my already-in-use disk its even damaged the platters... xxxxx
So its time to pay bunch of money to recover, and take a walk to wd service to bang on the desk.
Also note - it may be somehow related to intellispeed technology - since macs not really friendly with wd-s built-in solutions.
On the other hand, with WD GP 1Tb there is no problems at all for ages.
    thanks guys, thread is closed

I'm trying to connect a LAN printer, HP Color Laser Jet 3800dn, through a Time Capsule but no one on the network can see it.  The printer works fine if I connect it directly to my iMac.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Clark
There is a good chance the printer is just getting auto IP internally..
Plug it into your TC. And then set to dhcp via the controls on the printer.
If you know the name of the printer it should be immediately available to the network.. but anyway, you can find its IP by printing out the test page. That will also give you the network name.
Most later HP printers have web access to the print servers.. just type the ip into your browser and see if it comes up.
From the Mac, you should then be able to set it up via the printer preferences. Most HP will just appear.. but if not you should perhaps delete the local version and then check again for network printers.

  • HT201177 When I try to go on the Internet with airport express it does not connect saying it is timed out. If I connect extreme directly it works

Iimac uses airport extreme. For no known reason stopped connection to Internet. Reset. Still no connection with saying cannot connect because it timed out. When I connect extreme directly to the iMac I can get Internet. If I disconnect Internet does not work

Here is a helpful WiFi fixit:
    Troubleshooting wi-fi issues
You should try deleting all your WiFi preferences and start over . Sometimes one little glitch can cause all kinds of grief.

  • Suggestions on how to connect iMac *directly* to Maxtor Shared Storage?

i know that using Time Machine to back up to my Maxtor Shared Storage over my network isn't an option right now... So in the meantime, I would like to just connect my Maxtor drive directly to my iMac -- but I can't figure out how.
There is no way to connect it via USB, and there is no firewire port. The Apple guy at Best Buy said to use the ethernet cable to connect the external hard drive to my iMac, but I can't get my iMac to recognize the drive that way.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Right now my Maxtor drive is connected via a router no problem... But In order to use Time Machine, the drive needs to be directly (via cable, etc) connected to my iMac...
There is no firewire port on my Maxtor drive.
I did go to Best Buy (and Office Max, and Office Depot) to buy a USB cable... The cable I need doesn't exist... For example they are like this:
    http://www.coolgear.com/images/as340823as.jpg
But BOTH my iMac and Maxtor drive have ports that take the USB cable-end shown on the left in the image above. There is no cable that is the same on both ends...
So, how do I get my computer to recognize/mount my Maxtor drive when I connect it directly to the iMac via ethernet cable (that is what the Apple guy at Best Buy told me to do)? I can't find anything at all in the Maxtor documentation about this...
    Thanks for reading...

  • Time Capsule Questions? Connecting Powerbook Directly to TC.

The sales guy at Apple Store said I can connect my powerbook to he Time Capsule with a ethernet cord and use it like a firewire cord for the first Time Machine Back up. I have about 75GB on my laptop - if I have to back that up all wirelessle, how long is that going to take? A week?
I am also not seeing any possible way to do this in the little manual it came with.
For the first initial massive backup (in my case 75GB) are you supposed to let it do it wirelessly?
    Thanks!

Thanks! I figured it out with the help of support. Yes I connect it directly from the ethernet port on my MacBook to one of the LAN ports on the TimeCapsule (not the one with the circle of dots - that's the WAN port).
I then had to go into the airport setup assistant and re-configure for an ethernet connection and re-start the TimeCapsule.
You then have to go under the "Go" menu in the finder and select "Network". The time capsule should then show up and you have to log in to is using the password you initially gave it.
You are then connected and it's as easy as dragging and dropping.
You can also do this over the wireless network as well and even have your iTunes library there.

  • Can't connect to internet after updating new Firmware wrt54g Help please!

So i just updated my firmware on my wrt54g ver 2 router, went through all the steps it updated successfully after that i hit the reset button and unplugged the router as tehe online instructions said to. Now i can't connect to the interent at all with either of my two wired computers or through the wireless. All the lights on the front of the router are on like the power, internet, and wireless connectivity. Also the the two WAN ports my computers are connected to in the router the lights are on and it's recognising them. But I can't connect to the internet or even see the router on my network settings. Somone suggested to reconfigure the router but when i go to set up new connection my computer doesn't detect the router and also i cant connect to the router using the ip address 192.168.1.1/ since there is no internet connection. Is there a way to get to the router options or a way to revert it to its old firmware. Any help would be much appreciated. I should after updating the firmare the power button is contantly blinking.

I am having the exact same problem..  I have the same router and same version as well.. I followed the directions and upgraded the firmware. it said update successfull and then I reset it and power cycled it to find that my network no longer works and I cannot access the router..I've looked through all the troubleshooting guides and they do not help..  It says if you can't access the web based page then to use the TFTP  utility to re-flash the router’s firmware but it seems it cannot make a connection to the router..  I've tried to ping it like it says to in the TFTP guide but it does not seem to be able to make a connection to the router..  I tried to access Management Mode to recover the router and resume the loading of the firmware upgrade but I can't get the Management Mode Firmware Upgrade page to open as well..  So what gives?  I followed the directions  but the only thing I seemed to accomplish was to brick my router..   Does anyone have a clue on how to go about fixing this problem?   Any help is appreciated..

  • Wireless modem not connecting but direct connect is

I have a WRT54G modem and it works with a direct connection but not with the wireless.  We had a few power failures yesterday which is all I can think of that caused the problem. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

If you are able to go online wired from the router then, try to adjust the wireless settings on the router...
Open the router setup page and Under the Wireless tab,Change the SSID to some unique name,Change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462GHz and click on save settings.Under the subtab Wireless Security check the security key.
Under the Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Can the BC API be used to connect/synch directly to a iPhone App (app local database)?

    Hi Guys,
I'm just starting a project in collaboration with an iPhone App developer, they're building an app where a user will input survey data which is saved to a database within the app, then when the phone has a connection, the data is uploaded to a database. I want to use BC and extend the CRM to store the data captured from the app against a customer/case record, which will subsequently be displayed and modified by admin staff through a web front end. If necessary I'll use a Web App for part of this functionality.
I know the BC Web Services API can connect to an external database, but before designing a solution that requires building an external database to store the iPhone app data just so that BC can connect to it, can you tell me whether it's possible for the BC Web Services API to connect directly with an iPhone App (with integrated database)?
Totally new territory for me, so any answer to my question, or other help, tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards, Mark.

Many thanks for your helpful feedback TheBCMan, that's very clear. The more I've researched this, the more roadblocks appear and the more it appears BC is not going to work for this project, which is a shame as some of the other BC features are perfect for the project as a whole. However, before giving up, can I run the points below by you to validate or disprove any of my current understanding?
I understand I will need to stand up an external db/app to synch with the iPhone app to save the customer survey data, and I understand I will then be able to connect the external db/app to the BC API and pull the survey data into a extended CRM form.
However, once the data is in BC, I cannot work out a way where I could edit that CRM form data with it's assigned to a Case? That is, I understand it's possible to display/edit CRM form data assigned to a 'contact' of a customer record, but the problem here is I can only access the data to edit it when logged on as that customer. But this is data a staff member will access (customers will not be able to access it) and staff will not have access to the customers login credentials. So it's not feasible to assign the CRM data at the Contact level, agree/disagree?
If I set up one staff member as a customer (so one unique login) and save all the (potentially hundreds) of survey data CRM forms as individual 'Cases', but as I understand it, whereas this overcomes the customer logn issue, I won't be able to add a web form to a page to edit the survey data CRM form, because it's assigned to a Case, not a Contact in this scenario, agree/disagree?. (This is the approach I really hoped would work out)
And as you said, I can't use a Web App, which would overcome both of the issues above, because I can't access a Web App from the BC API.
So, in conclusion, these appear to be no way around these roadblocks, unless you can tell me otherwise?
    Thanks again for your help.
    Regards, Mark.

  • Can't connect to wireless network with Apple Computers (WRT54G)

    Hi.
I have had a password protected router (WRT54G) for over two years that any pc will connect to if I give them the password.  However, my roommate has an apple laptop and he can't connect, no matter how many times we try.  I just got an ipod touch, and it can't connect to the network either.  We are inputting our password correctly - why can't apple computers connect to my wireless network??
Again, my router is a WRT54G.
    Thanks !!!

Make sure you enter the correct password...To check your Wireless Settings follow this link
If your Wireless Security is WEP then use WEP Key1 and not the Passphrase, make sure to enter a dollar sign on your Apple Computer when you attempt to connect...If your Wireless Security is WPA/WPA2 then use the WPA Shared key and no dollar sign is required...

  • Connecting Enterprise Directly to Pervasive

    Good Afternoon,
I'm working as a remote consultant with a firm that wants me to find out about running pervasive direct from the BO Server.  They are migrating from simple client server with an Enterprise Server to Data Warehousing.
Right now though, the big question is, what do we need to do to run our Pervasive reports by the server.  There are several reports talking to a Pervasive  database that users run from their desktops that they would like to schedule and run automatically with the server.
My gut tells me, all they need to do to accomplish this is install the pervasive odbc drivers on the server and rock and roll.  But I would like to get the best answer and any gotchas I can let them in on before they proceed.
What follows are a list of questions I asked in anticipation of talking with BO Suppport to get some specific answers.  When I called BO Support (now sap support), they redirected me here, first.
What software package are you implementing that uses Pervasive as a back end?   TitleExpress by TSS in Maryland.
I take it the package in an attempt to protect its data structure wants to export to excel or use some other method to mask its table structure.  Do they provide any sort of Pervasive connection ODBC or native?   They have a DDF and allow access to most tables.  There is an ODBC driver that is installed on the client.
What version of pervasive?   SQL 9
What OS is Pervasive installed on?   Windows Server 2003
What version of BO server are you running?   See below
    Build Date:      2006/08/14 22:24:35
    Build Number:      2205

What OS is BO Server installed on?   Windows Server 2003
I think that should get me started.  It seems like they always ask questions I don't have the answers to, even though I've tried to be thorough.
So, the actual question is, What do I need to do to BO enterprise server to get direct access to Pervasive?
    Thanks.

    Bump.
Has not anyone used Pervasive with BO Report Server?

  • HT1454 Is it possible to connect iPad directly to my smart tv without an Apple TV box?

Can I connect my iPad directly to my smart tv without using an Apple TV box?

Yes, using an appropriate video cable.

Make sure you get the right one for your iPad and whatever connection you have on your TV.

  • Connecting ipod directly to amp in car

i was wondering if connecting my ipod directly to the amp in my car using a cable with rca plugs on one end and a headphone jack on the other would create any problems for my ipod... anyone know?

If you have the direct inputs to accept the audio, then it will not cause a problem.
There are several similar methods to manage this:
Direct connection via the dock connector or headphone jack of your iPod, to the mini-jack input (or AUX RCA input jacks) of your car stereo. Not many low/moderate-end cars have this feature yet, but it is becoming more popular. Some aftermarket auto stereo units may have this feature.
There are also some after-market, moderate to fairly expensive direct interfaces, that hook into your existing car stereo to provide a high-quality, direct connection. Most will also power/charge the iPod. Pretty slick, but can be pricey ($80-$300). If money is no object, a clean way to go. Not very portable from car to car – if at all.

Whichever you choose, power the iPod through your car’s DC power -- either from a power adapter, or as part of the combined audio adaptor. Have a method to secure the iPod to the dash/console/etc. See the reviews for all the various accessories at the iLounge
You will also get better audio output if the dock connection plug is used, rather than the headphone jack. See Sendstation for a novel adaptor called a PocketDock. Others types are also available via this site.

  • Connecting iPod directly to computer screen for video

    Hi everyone
I would like to connect my iPod directly to my computer screen at work for watching videos after hours. Is there anyway (cable/adapter) to connect the iPod directly to the screen (DVI or VGA)?
I can't connect the iPod directly to the computer nor do I have a TV...
    Many thanks

Depends on your screen. Some have ability to take RCA inputs. If yours does then get an iPod dock that supports RCA transfer.
