Connecting a G-Raid to Time Capsule

I am trying to connect a G-Raid disk to the USB port on the time capsule, but I cannot see the G-Raid disk to configure for use using time machine. Any ideas?

That drive should be usable that way, but may require a powered USB hub.  The port on the TC is vastly underpowered;  most self-powered drives will work without help, but some of the larger ones won't.
There's nothing in any Apple tech articles, but I've read that a partition over about 2.2 GB either may not be recognized on the TC or you may only be able to use the first 2.2 GB or so.
Try a powered hub;  if that doesn't work, try spliting the HD into 2 partitions (connect directly to your Mac to do that) and see if it's recognised that way, with the powered hub.  If not, there may be a problem with the port or other innards of the TC.
Note that backups can't "span" from the TC's HD to another volume;  for any one Mac, you can back up to either the TC's internal HD or the external HD (unlike the TC's internal HD, you can partition the external).
When connected to the TC, it should show up in Airport Utility something like this (a 500 GB Seagate with 6 partitions):
EDIT:  Be sure the drive is formatted for a Mac -- any variant of Mac OS Extended.

  • Do I need to setup my AirPort Express on a modem before trying to connect it wirelessly to my time capsule existing network?

I have an airport express that I used in another location.  I brought it home and want to use it with my existing network and time capsule to do AirTunes.  I can't get the Express to show up in my airport utility to even set it up.  Do I need to connect it to my time capsule with an ethernet cable first to configure, or should it be showing up as a device to add to my network automatically?

    1. i would restore the express to factory defaut by holding the reset button on the unit with a paperclip while you are powering it on
    2. if it restored, you should be able to see it in your wifi icon at top of screen as "airport express"
or you can see it in airport utility
    3. then if you want to connect it wirelessly to your time capsule, you would choose "extend network" and put in relevant security and password....this would make the express a wireless access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)
if you chose to do it wired which is a better way if you have access to ethernet port at wall, you would choose "create a wireless network" and then under the "network" tab you would choose "Bridge Mode".....this would make the express a wired access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)

  • My macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

my macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

  • I receive a not connected to the internet message several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via cable modem.. When I input my password to enter network preferences, the connection re-establishes.

I receive a "not connected to the internet message" several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via a cable modem. Software/firmware is up to date on the iMac (OSX 10.6.8)  and Tme Capsule(7.5.2). Browser is Safari 5.1.
When I input my password at the prompt to enter network preferences, all the lights go green (ie... ethernet, ISP etc.) and the connection re-establishes immediately and states "the connection appears to be working normally".
It more of a nuisance than anything and seems to have started ocurring over the past couple of months. I also have a windows XP box also connected to the same cable modem that I never have internet connectivity issues with. I've verified all the physical aspects of the connections and can't see any evidence of any actual drops in the modem logs. I suspect it is just an intermittent communication loss between the Imac and the Time Capsule, but I am not very familiar with Mac equipment yet.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar problem and what you did (if anything) to resolve it?
    Thanks.

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.

  • My PC cannot see a hard drive connected by usb to my Time Capsule!

    Help please.
My PC cannot see my Toshiba hard drive connected by usb to my Time Capsule. I can see the hard drive in Airport Utility. I suspect my problem may be to do with either setting up File Sharing or else mapping............if anyone can help fix this it would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Wins server is useless.. you won't have one..
Did you turn on the guest account with full read and write permissions.. ??
Can you ping the TC ip address??
Is the airport utility on the windows machine??
Do you have a mac to access the drive?
Is it real fat32 or some strange exfat which won't work?
I also wonder if it should not be formatted on directly on the TC.. or on a Mac and formatted GUID not windows type.
Sorry not all of this is logical..
If you can access the internal disk from windows.. how are you doing that??
If the external USB drive is not working.. plug it straight into the windows machine and enjoy faster better and more consistent file copying..
Share it to the network if you want network access.

  • Trying to Connect Wireless Epson Printer with Time Capsule

Greetings. I am a regular Mac user and using Mac for several years now. However, I am a new to network administration. I have a Linksys wireless router that syncs our 5 Macs (one iPad-1 iMac and three MacBook Pros), plus 4 Windows PC's we have in our network. I recently decided to purchase a Time Machine, and further our use of Apple technology in wireless devices. I want to back up all my computer's files to Time Machine and use the Airport Extreme functions of Time Machine while discontinuing the use of my LinkSys router. However, I can't get my Epson WorkForce 600 to wirelessly connect to Time Capsule in order to use the scanner & fax functions. Connecting the printer by USB enables the printer function, but disables all other functions of the printer (fax-scan, etc.).
I tried downloading new Epson drivers and couldn't get some of them to install. This time My iMac wouldn't install the .dmg files. I tried opening the .dmg file and installing. The pop up box requiring my administrator password, kept flashing when I tried to enter my password. Since I couldn't get the .dmg files to install, my plan to update Epson driver's didn't work. Question #1: I am looking for advice how to install these weird disk image files ?
I turned off my Time Capsule, re-connected the LinkSys to the cable modem and all my wireless functions work again, especially my printer. Sadly, no Time Capsule.
I read another discussion suggestion connecting both wireless devices together. I assume since I want to use Time Capsule that I set it up with the modem and connect the other router to it via one of the four ethernet connections. I didn't want to try this until I received further advice. I am hoping I can connect my LinkSys router to Time Capsule and use the printer through the LinkSys connection with all other computers on my network.
Question #2: How can I get my Time Capsule to find the Epson so I can use it again, or should I just use the LinkSys router connected to the printer?
Thank you in advance for help.

This sounds as if you are trying to use instructions that are more than 2 years old at this point, but you are using a new version of AirPort Utility Utility in Lion or Mountain Lion....which would not track or apply to the older instructions.
Can you confirm what operating system that you are using on the Mac that is being used to configure devices?
The new AirPort Express will connect directly to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection, correct?

  • There was a problem connecting to the server "Max Time Capsule"

Disclaimer:  Previously posted here (Ask Different) and similar to this.
I'm trying to use my MBP inside and outside my office, and having it backup to my 2TB Time Capsule when on its wireless network, or defer backups when not on the Time Capsule's wireless network.
Unfortunately, if I've been on a different wireless network for a few hours worth of backup attempts, bringing the machine back onto the Time Capsule's wireless network doesn't resume backups, and Time Machine never recovers. I can select the disk as a backup drive in the Time Machine preferences, but the disk remains unavailable from the Finder, and any backup attempts yield the standard:
There was a problem connecting to the server "Max Time Capsule"
Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator.
My WiFi connection is through the same Time Capsule that hosts the backup drive, and its name and IP address have decidedly not changed. The only thing that seems to help is restarting the Time Capsule, but that is an inconvenient workaround at best.
The problem sounds similar to Backup Disk Not Available, but the answers to that question are either to restart or change the disk name or turn off the 5 GHz network (which didn't help). I also looked at /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeCapsule.plist, but found nothing that seemed relevant.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My MBP is running OS X 10.7.5, and the Time Capsule firmware is 7.6.1.

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
I still have internet connection, and have tried other suggestions across internet but really the only fix has been to power cycle the ATC. This unfortunately is only a temporary remedy for a day or so until it returns.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
There is no fix.. I have written a bunch of suggestions to try.

  • Can I connect my iTouch to the Time Capsule?

I am hoping to connect my iTouch to my Time Capsule, so the iTouch will sync with iTunes via the network.  Is this possible?  I have attached the iTouch to the Time Capsule USB port, but when I open iTunes, my iTouch does not appear.
I contacted Apple Support a few weeks ago about this.  The suprisingly unhelpful fellow said that it was not a Time Capsule issue and that if I wanted help, he could redirect me to the iTouch support contingent.  If he transferred me, though, he warned, I would have to pay a fee because my iTouch was more than 90 days old.
Honestly, I was miffed!  I would think Apple Support would help me connect other Apple peripherals to an Apple peripheral, for the Time Capsule is only 1 month old and eligible for free support.
    But enough ranting, any advice?

There are so many ideals in our worlds, aren't there?
Another question you could perhaps help me with.  I am using my TC as an external hard disk as well.  I will want to purchase another hard disk to back up the data on the TC.  A 500 GB disk will do.  Should I get one with an external power source?  Or a plug-and-play?
I tried to do this with an older hard disk drive, but the TC would not recognize it.  I was able to do a back-up by connecting the TC by ethernet cable to the computer and the hard drive by USB to the computer.  But I'd like to get a drive that the TC will recognize and use CCCloner to back up automatically my files on the TC to an external hard drive.  I would like to connect the hard disk directly to the TC via an ethernet port or the ideally-and-sensically-free USB port.
As a test, I just plugged a USB key into the TC, but the TC does not recognize it.  When I plug it into the MacBook, the MacBook does recognize it.  It is formatted as FAT32.  I am nervous about purchasing a disk that the TC won't recognize.
    Thanks again for your help!

You cannot use USB. It has to be a network capable printer.. is it?? You did not indicate how it is connected.. but by wireless or ethernet then scanning is possible otherwise not.

    Are you using Yosemite??
This is stock standard yosemite bug and we have no simple fix for you..
You can fix it at its source..
Hack in DNS from Mavericks.. so Yosemite can be raised to a level of reliability above GHASTLY.. !!
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/01/why-dns-in-os-x-10-10-is-broken-and-what-yo u-can-do-to-fix-it/
Apple still have not fixed it.. and users are now sick and tired of the problem.. so have resorted to what can only be described as extreme measures.. in fact I wonder why people don't just revert to Mavericks.. or earlier.. whatever OS was reliable.. instead of seeing the latest greatest update as necessity.

  • Time Capsule not connecting to WEP printer.  Time Capsule set up for WPA2.  Can I use both standards with one Time Capsule?

How do I get a WEP printer to connect wirlessly to the new Time Capsule set for WPA2?  High security is needed do to large Apt Complex.

Actually, you can but it would require that you reconfigure the Time Capsule (TC) for "WEP (Transitional Security Network)." This Wireless Security option allows for both WEP and WPA clients to connect ... BUT does NOT support the AES/CCMP encryption protocol introduced by WPA2. Note: The WPA2 standard supports both the TKIP (used in WPA & WEP) and AES/CCMP (used only in WPA2) encryption protocols.
If you require the stronger AES protocol, WEP clients or WPA clients that only support TKIP will not be able to connect.

  • Connect External Hard Drive to Time Capsule?

    Hi,
I was told that I could hook up my 1TB G-Raid External Hard Drive to my Time Capsule for a totally wireless system. I have the EHD connected to the TC with a USB cable but my MBP does not see it; it does see the TC.
I was told that you cannot have two Time Capsules if you want to use one as a Time Machine and the other as an EHD, all the TCs have to have the same "job". I was instructed to buy 1 TC and 1 EHD.
What have I done wrong or was I given wrong information?
    Thanks!

    From wikipedia :
HFS Plus or HFS+ is a file system developed by Apple Inc. to replace their Hierarchical File System (HFS) as the primary file system used in Macintosh computers (or other systems running Mac OS). It is also one of the formats used by the iPod digital music player. HFS Plus is also referred to as Mac OS Extended (or, erroneously, “HFS Extended”), where its predecessor, HFS, is also referred to as Mac OS Standard (or, erroneously, as “HFS Standard”). During development, Apple referred to this filesystem with the codename Sequoia

  • How to connect my iMAC to the time capsule(with cable)?!

I bought the Time Capsule Machine and I tried more than 8 times to do the backup.
Always it takes some days and doesn't finish. So, I thought maybe the problem could be the connection without cables. But I don't know how to do it, I tried without success.
    Thank's

Thank you for helping me, but I already tried and didn't work... Maybe I put it on the wrong place, but if I did it, I really don't know where is the wright place...
There are 2 different kind of place to put on the time capsule and only one on the iMac... I tried both!
    Thank you again
