Connecting a G4 Quicksilver to wireless

I have just recently purchased an Airport Extreme Base Station. My G4 does not have wireless capability. My intent is to keep the G4 "hardwired" through the Base Station and have wireless capability for my kids' laptops when they visit as their laptops are equipped to be wireless. So far my attempts have failed in trying to connect successfully. I called Verizon (DSL provider) to no avail; their only suggestion is to shut off the the computer and disconnect all wires, for the wireless connection, for 8 hours.
Any suggestions? Also, does it matter if the phone line is connected to the Extreme Base Station or to the G4?

My intent is to keep the G4 "hardwired" through the Base Station and have wireless capability for my kids' laptops when they visit as their laptops are equipped to be wireless.
Based on these requirements, your network configuration, with the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), should be something like the following:
DSL modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN port] AEBS [LAN port] > (Ethernet cable) > G4, AND
AEBS > (wireless) > wireless computers
I called Verizon (DSL provider) to no avail; their only suggestion is to shut off the the computer and disconnect all wires, for the wireless connection, for 8 hours.
Any suggestions?
Your DSL modem "remembers" the last device connected to it...in this case, your G4. In order for it to do the same for the AEBS, a power recycle is usually required (as Verizon tech support has advised)
A typical power recycle...
Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the DSL modem & AEBS. (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
...and the AEBS settings...
(Note: This assumes that your Verizon DSL service required PPPoE for connectivity)
Connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (found in \Applications\Utilities), check these settings:
AirPort tab
- Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- Create a closed network (unchecked)
- Wireless Security: Not enabled
- Channel: Automatic
- Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
Internet tab
- Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
- Account Name: <Verizon DSL account name>
- Change password: <Verizon DSL account password>
- Always stay connected (checked)
- WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (checked)
- Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
Also, does it matter if the phone line is connected to the Extreme Base Station or to the G4?
The Ethernet line from the DSL modem should be connected to the WAN port of the AEBS. If you still require the use of dial-up service, you can connect the phone line to the Phone port on the AEBS as well.

  • Unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly on Boot Camp with Windows 7

I recently installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 on my Mac Book Pro with no problems.
A month later, I am unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly.
It states that I am connected to my router.
When I trouble shoot, it cannot find the problem.
My wireless connection and cable connection are fine on the MAC side.
    Please help.

looks a like a Windows 7 problem. I assume that you can click on the current connection info on the task bar and see a connection to your wireless router?  Have you updated your copy of Windows since it was working? I am wondering if it's an update that's applied in Windows which has done something.

  • Connecting HP Laserjet P1102W to wireless network (then getting drivers!)

    Hi,
My macbook pro and HP LASERJET P1102W seemed to be communicating just fine when I had snow leapard.  Post update to Mountain Lion, problems.
I have gotten the printer to work when connected via USB, however not consistently.  (Often it cannot recognize when paper tray is filled, cannot do two sided printing and has other issues perhaps connected to the fact that software is missing?)
I have read the documentation on HP site, noting that the only way to install drivers is via a network connecton and airprint which requires a network connection.
Not sure this is the right place to ask this, but I will for now:
How do I connect my printer to my network, which is a new home network as I just changed from DSL to Cable?
Note:  I had not previously ever connected my printer to my wireless network and set it up to work with Airprint, though that is one of the reasons I bought it.
Once I do connect the printer to my wireless network, perhaps then I can try to follow the steps on the HP site   http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03425022&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=4142&product=4110396&sw_lang=
If anyone has experience with the above, I would love to hear it!
Final question:  Is plugging the printer into the back of the new cable modem via ethernet or USB perhaps a way to put it on the wireless network?  Not a convenient location, but if only alternative, I would try it.
    THANKS!
    Ani

    Dear Happy-to-Help,
I appreciate you logging in to help. I shall give this a shot in the next couple of days when I have more time and let you know how it goes.
I have been quite frustrated by the fact that HP says if the HP Laserjet P1102W has worked fine with Snow Leapord and one upgrades to Mountain Lion, all the drivers will be automatically upgraded/updated (or whatever the term).  That has not been the case at all.   It took quite a bit to even get my computer and printer to talk to one another via a USB connection—with none of the functions of the printer (as noted above) working properly to this day.
I hope your suggestion works.  Will be back in touch to let you know.

  • Unable to connect to Deskjet 3545 via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad E530)

Hi, It's a newly bought printer. I am unable to connect to the printer via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 64bit laptop. I have enabled the Wireless Direct with security on the Printer. Connected to the Printer SSID from my laptop wifi. Created the new printer from Driver software. It discovers the printer with it's name,IP etc; Upon selecting the printer and click on 'Next' button on the screen, results in a 5 min search process and finally displays that it could not connect. I have tried pinging the printer and it's able to pingf the IP of the printer successfully. I have even tried disabling the Norton antivirus, but result is the same. regards, sathwik

  • Problem connecting MBP to established Linksys wireless network

just got MBP 2.16 (my first mac!). Having trouble connecting to my established linksys wireless network. I have the BEFW11S4 (V.2) etherfast wireless access point + cable router with 4 port switch. Currently have 128 encryption enabled. The linksys router is broadcasting its ID (I can see "linksys" on my mac) but it seems to not accept the password. I tried entering the 26 WEP key, the passphrase, the WEP key in quotes, the WEP after a $ sign... all to no avail. please APPLE community, help out a mac noobie before i have to turn back to Bill Gates....
    Dell Dimension 8200, MBP 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB SDRAM

To find the IP address or the status, go to system Preferences then network. It will show you the status of any internet connections. You should see one for Airport, it will either show a green light and say 'Airport is connected to the internet' (or something like that) or a red light and say 'Airport is is active but not connected' (something like that). If you double click on Airport or click 'Configure' you will see tabs, click on TCP/IP and it will show all of your details including your IP address.
As for the other, it always refers to wireless networks as 'Airport' and that response is the standard response from a Mac.
the password should be typed in the hex section, not sure about the $ sign. I've never had to do that before. But if you can't connect even with no encription then I would think it is another problem. I would turn off the encription until you can at least get connected and then you can worry about the security afterwards.

  • Connecting to Time Capsule via wireless and uverse

Here is my setup: I have Uverse and a Time Capsule. I have Uverse creating a wireless network, the TC plugged in via ethernet cable to Uverse and set in bridge mode. The TC is also creating a wireless network. I can use any device to connect to the wireless of either the Uverse or TC without any problems.
When trying to access the harddrive on the TC from a windows machine I can be on either the Uverse or the TC wireless network and connect without issue. If IM on my MAC I can connect via any of the wireless options, but I can only access the TC Harddrive (via Finder) if Im connected to the TC wireless network, if Im on the UVERSE network then the TC says connection failure.
Same goes for accessing the airport util on the MAC. It can see the TC and change the settings when on the TC network, but not if on the Uverse network.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just how the MAC is set to view/handle the TC?
    Thank you, Erich

There is a difference between the default domain of the Uverse and the TC.
There is also issues perhaps with ipv6 which is now important to access and use the TC.
Do you have ipv6 set to link-local on the computer? This is crucial.
Also try netstat scan from network utility (hidden now in Mavericks so just type network in the search in finder)
Do the scan and see what you come up with when connected to either box.
For Mavericks.. I think sticking to short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric helps.
You can see the domain of the apple routers here is local. When the Mac gets an IP from the Apple router it will also pick up the domain.. so you can see my mini has local also as domain.. When it gets the IP from the Uverse it might not get a domain at all.. or it might be something else.
Anyway it gives you a few things to look at.
Try manually mounting the TC disk even if you still fail to get a connection using the Go, Connect to server from top menu in finder.
Use AFP://TCname.local or even better. AFP://TCIPaddress (where you replace with actual name or actual IP address)

  • How do I get a laptop to connect to my HPDeskjet 4480 wirelessly on my home network?

    HP Deskjet F4480
Toshiba Laptop, with Windows 7 64 bit
Dell PC with Windows XP Pro 32 bit
    No error message
I had installed the printer wirelessly to the laptop, it worked well, for some reason it now stopped working. I removed it from the laptop and reinstalled it, but it now will not print. the laptop is connected to our home network wirelessly. That works perfectly.

    Hello RichBH,
Just to be sure I understand the issue, the printer is connected by USB to the Dell PC, and you want to print over the network from your Toshiba laptop?
If I have helped in any way, just click the Kudos star on the left. Also, if your issue has been resolved, don't forget to select Accept as Solution

  • I can't make my iphone 4 forget the hpsetup network which keeps showing up at work. My phone won't automatically connect to my company's wireless network.

I can't make my iphone 4 forget the hpsetup network which keeps showing up at work. My phone won't automatically connect to my company's wireless network. I have to reselect it everytime I come to work.

Settings/General/Reset - Reset network settings will "forget" all WiFi networks so you can select them again.
If the problem with your company network is not solved by doing this, are there multiple sites that have the same network name for the company network? Or is it the default network name for the router type (e.g., DLINK, LINKSYS, etc)? If so, this is what is causing the problem and there is no solution other than convincing IT that it is a bad idea to have duplicate network names.

  • Connecting to enterprise TTLS+PAP wireless

Ok, here's the problem. I can't connect to our enterprise wireless. I'm one of the network admins, and our director has purchased an iPad, and want to be able to connect it to our internal wireless network. It's a RADIUS server that uses WPA2 Enterprise with TTLS and PAP. I can connect with a laptop, and with my Droid, but not the iPad.
We have to put legis\(username) so that RADIUS knows where to put the user. here's what it looks like in our logs when I make a SUCCESSFUL connection
    09/29/2010 12:51:14 Raw Packet :
    09/29/2010 12:51:14 |.../..0z....?.@.|

But here's what it looks like in the log when I try an dconnect with the iPad
    09/29/2010 16:02:02 Raw Packet :

    09/29/2010 16:02:02 030:|..v{v |
As you can see, it does NOT strip off the "legis\" part (like it should) AND it adds a capitol "P" to the end of my username!!! WTH!?!
The final error that I get in the log is this
09/29/2010 16:02:02 Too many or too few authentication attributes in request; rejecting.
I'm REALLY hoping that I can get some help from someone...'cause our director's really wanting to use this internally.

If you can't get an iPad an iPod with wireless and IOS 5 or above has pretty much the same wifi network mechanics. Again, the iPhones aren't much different in the wi fi area either. Refer to http://support.apple.com/specs/ for the specific technical specs of the device you are using to test. The biggest difference is that the iphone and ipod do not support the "a" spectrum and are b g n only, whereas the iPad is a/b/g/n.  Perhaps the problem has something to do with 802.11a.  Make sure your wifi gear has all the latest firmware.  You could also turn off the the "a"  radio beacon, I don't use it anymore as it created too many problems and g and n are really all you need anymore.
