Connecting a HP laserjet 8500 to an ethernet network

Just purchased an aging HP Laserjet 8500, need to connect to an ethernet network. Any ideas? It doesn't have an ethernet port or a usb connection.

Sorry I didn't point out that I do have an external jetdirect 170x print server, but I cannot find for the love of god the correct cable to connect the printer to the jetdirect box. I bought a IEEE1284 Printer cable but this isn't the correct cable to connect the printer to the box, although PC World told me otherwise.

  • Connecting Time Capsule on a fixed IP ethernet network

    Hello,
To connect the internet, I use an ethernet cable which comes directly out of one of the wall of my apartment (please don't laugh, I don't know much about networks and computers... that' why i have a Mac it's supposed to be easier...). Actually the whole building is wired and each resident only has to plug the ethernet cable that comes out of its wall and it works. My "ISP" provided me with a fixed IP address, and other relevant Subnet Mask, Router and DNS server addresses. So my wired ethernet connection is manually configured and is working fine. Last week I bought a brand new TC... and am since then trying to create my new wireless network. I follow all the instructions given by the Airport Utility until I am asked whether i want to use DHCP / NAT or switch to bridge mode because TC there is something about my fixed IP address. What I understand is that i need to do something to tell the TC my ISP provides me with a fixed IP address and that it has to manage it... but i dont know how.
So, I tried both. In bridge mode, the TC flashes green... so it looks good. However when I open my favorite browser, I can not access to anywhere.
I did not really get the DHCP / NAT story. Could someone please help me ?
    Thanks a lot.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
It sounds like what you need to do is use AirPort Utility, Internet panel, Internet Connection tab, to set "Configure IPv4" to "Manually", then set the fields below to those given to you by your "ISP". Set "Connection Sharing" at the bottom to "Share a public IP address". Then set your computer to use DHCP. You may want to create another network location on your computer so that you can preserve the old values in case you need to switch back to connecting directly to your computer.

  • MacPro. OS X 10.6.7. - connectivity to HP Laserjet 5000N

    Hi,
    I used to have a HP4MV printer to print b&w 11x17 documents on OS X 10.5.8.
Now, with 10.6.7, that printer is not supported anymore, and also Appletalk doesn't work anymore.
How would I use a HP Laserjet 5000N within an Ethernet network (MacPro plus a MacBook)? Are my Macs "smart" enough to automatically recognize the printer on an Ethernet network? Or do I have to use a serial to USB adapter in order to make the printer work?
    I haven't bought the HP 5000N yet (it's a refurbished model).
    Thanks!

I continue to use AppleTalk printers by having an iBook running 10.4 on my home Network and Sharing Printers. The printers are connected to the network  using AppleTalk-over-Ethernet and a farallon converter box to AppleTalk/LocalTalk. The more modern Macs can only see these printers through the iBook "host".
You can talk to many more modern Ethernet printers directly, just by cabling them up. There are two classes.
"Smart" printers use a Postscript or PCL driver, and the computer specifies the fonts and sends the characters. These work great with an Ethernet printer attached to a port on your Router (or in some cases, wireless).
"Dumb" printers use a monolithic driver that does all the rasterization on the Mac, and send the huge stream of bits to the printer. As long as there IS a driver for the Mac, these will work as well. Most USB printers work this way as well.
Remember that the original LaserWriter -- the machine that really put the Macintosh on the Map -- was a Network Printer. So YES, the Mac does Network Printers.

  • Is it possible to connect an HP LaserJet P4015n printer to a computer via the ethernet ports?

My usb port on my Laserjet P4015n no longer works and I am unable to connect this printer to my network router because it's in a different room. Is it possible to connect an HP LaserJet P4015n printer to a computer via the ethernet ports? Of so, how would I go about making this connection? Will I need to install ethernet drivers for this to work?
    Thanks,

  • Drivers to be used on networked computers that arent directly connected to HP Laserjet M1536dnf MFP

Hi, I have been having problems connecting computers on network to printer. The printer is HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf MFP. The computer that is connected to the printer directly through usb port is fine. I downloaded full solution drivers from the hp site, installed them and all is well. the problem is with the computers on the network, they cant even detect the computer from add printer. And I have enabled all the file sharing and printer sharing options in advanced sharing on all computers. I also tried installing the same drivers i used on local computer on the networked computers but its not working. Please kindly advise me on which particular driver I should use  or solution.

  • Wireless Connection Problem with Laserjet Pro MFP M126nw (HELP) :(

I have Laserjet Pro MFP M126nw just bought it last day.
Everthing working fine but i can't able to connect it to my wireless router via WPS PushButton or PIN tried both many times but failed.
I also reset my Router even changed the security level to
    ·  WEP key encryption using either Auto or Open authentication
    ·  WPA and
    ·  WPA2
Tried many times but it says connection failed on the LCD Display.
I have Linksys WRT120N wireless router.
    Please help its urgent!

    Hi @AjayKareer,
I understand that you are unable to setup the printer on the wireless network. I can help you with this.
Make sure the network name doesn't have any spaces or special characters. The printer won't recognize it.
    Restore the printer defaults.
On the printer control panel, press the Setup button.
Press the Right Arrow, to select the Network Setup, and then press OK.
Press the Right Arrow, to select the Restore Defaults, and then press OK.
I have provided a document with some steps for setting the printer up on the network.
Installing the Printer Software on a Wireless or Wired (Ethernet) Network.
Configure the wireless by a Ethernet connection if the issue persists.
Print a configuration page to get the printer's IP address.
    Printing a Configuration Report.
Then type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar to bring up the printer's web page.
Select the networking tab, wireless on the left hand side.
Fill out all your network information, select infrastructure, select your network name, put in the password and type of Encryption if you have this setup or Open for no password. Apply settings.
    Then disconnect the Ethernet cable.
Then wait a minute to see if you get a wireless light on the printer, print the configuration page and check the IP address again. Then type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar to bring up the printer's web page. That way you will know that the printer is now networked.
    Then run the installation.
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.

  • How do I connect an HP LaserJet 5000 GN printer to my iMac running system 10.7

How do I connect an HP LaserJet 5000 GN printer to my iMac (system 10.7.5) ?

Ok, I too have been having a time with hooking up the Great HP 5000 GN to my new 2013 MacPro desktop computer.
And I have tried everthing.  Excep This, Last night I decided to treat it as a brand new printer, right out of the box.
I turned it off, (the rocker switch) and unpluged everthing to it and left it overnight.
This morning I plug it in.  In this order, the Ethernet Cable from the Xfinity Modem / Router.  Then the Power Cord,
Then turned it on ( the rocker switch).  And let it go through the initaliting process.
Then at the printer panel on the printer, I printed out a fresh Configuration.  I noticed right away the IP Address was different than the one I had been trying to use.
Then I went into the System Preferences / Printers & Scanners.  Held down the Control Key with with the curser in the
big area where the Printers/Scanners are listed and clicked on it to reset the items inside that area. To clean everthing out.
Then  clicked the IP ikon and put the NEW IP Number in the address space.
BINGO !!!  Spacs started to fill up!  And I hit the Add Button.
I opened Illustrator and pulled up a file and went through the paces to print.  BINGO ! The printer went into action before
I took my finger off the button!
This is the first time I have ever posted anything. But I just had to tell y'all who have had the same trouble as I have.
So now,  you can have Happy Holidays with your MacPro OS X 10.10.1 and the HP 5000 series

  • Upgraded arris hi-speed router to my xfinity, now my old hp4000 laserjet won't print ethernet routed

I just upgraded to an Arris hi-speed router to my Xfinity but now my old HP 4000n Laserjet won't print ethernet routed... What to do?
It worked simply fine from my previous Netgear Router that I ran off the previous old xfinity modem (w/o builtin) router. Much Thanks for your step by step instruction.  I am running Windows 7 fyi.

On the front of the printer, probably in the Network menu, can you tell if the printer has a valid IP address, indicating that it is properly connected to your new router?
If so (and I would guess that it is), then your PC needs to re-establish communication with it:
First, go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
    Next:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • In my small office ethernet network all of a sudden one of my imacs cannot be connected to. It can connect to all other computers and can access internet, but as soon as someone tries to connect to that mac, it disconnects from the network. Any ideas

I have a network of 9 macs that connect via ethernet and a router. All of a sudden one of the macs cannot be connected to. It can connect to all others and the internet, but no one can connect to that one. I have appletalk active and file sharing on, but everytime someone tries to connect to it, it is not on the network. Additionally, the personal file sharing keeps turning off even though I have it locked. Any ideas?

not sure where you got the idea that I have

  • How to connect a home Ethernet network and Time Machine?

My home is wired for Ethernet, but I cannot figure out how to make it active.
Currently I have my cable modem connected to a Time Machine. Then, the Time Machine is connected to the Ethernet lines that run through my house. If I try to connect my laptop to one of the Ethernet jacks in the house, it does not work. I can however connect the laptop to the Time Machine directly with no issues.
Any ideas on what I may be missing?
    Thank you.

The Time Capsule is indeed a wireless router, also having three Ethernet ports. So it should be capable of handling up to three devices connecting via Ethernet and routing them to the Internet through your cable modem which should be connected to the WAN port on the Time Capsule.
Again, if you connect a computer directly to one of the Ethernet ports in the Time Capsule and it works to get you to the Internet, but you then connect one of the in-wall Ethernet lines to that same port in the Time Capsule and connect the same computer using the same patch cable to the other end of the in-wall Ethernet line and it doesn't work, then the in-wall cabling is bad.

  • How do I connect my HP Laserjet 1102w directly to a Linksys AE3500 wireless router with USB option?

I am trying to connect an HP Laserjet 1102w directly to an HP desktop model a172n with Windows Vista Home Premium OS (32 bit) through a new Linksys AE3500 dual band wireless router which has a USB port for a direct connection. The desktop can see the wireless router but not the printer.
Is there a work around, a printer installer update, or some other solution that enables me to connect the desktop to the printer via the USB connection on the wireless router? I need to have one wireless laptop and one non-wireless desk computer able to use the one printer.
    Thanks for any assistance!

Hi, I'm using a Mac Pro here. I am trying to connect it with my NAS hard drive. But i could not connect to it because i have an ethernet which connects to the intranet in my company and Air Port for the internet and it could not detect the the ip address after i input the correct address on "Connect to Server" window. Please help! Urgent! Thanks

I did not say it is not possible.
I said if your company networks are monopolizing both ports, you should talk to them about what options are available.
Maybe you can get the company Intranet over wireless if you change some configuration items such as Subnet Mask.
Maybe you can get on the Internet over Ethernet.
You really need to ask them, and do not let them blow you off because you have a Mac. If they balk, ask them how it would be done on a PC (becasue it will be the same on a Mac).

  • Connecting HP LaserJet P1102w printer to wireless network

I have been trying to connect my HP LaserJet P1102w printer to my wireless network for a couple days now. I put the disk in and follow the instructions. When I get to the part about plugging in the USB to the desktop computer and turning on the printer, and it says the USB isn't connected when it is (the printer is on). I don't know what to do.

    Hi @tripleaaz ,
I can help you with setting up the printer over the wireless network.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and the USB cable is connected directly to one of the back USB ports on the computer.
The USB cable shouldn't be longer then 6 feet.
Is the cable a 2.0 or 3.0 cable? How to determine whether a USB 3.0 device is operating at SuperSpeed?
Is the USB port on the computer 2.0 or 3.0?
Follow these steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for any printer entries.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Then click on Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
In the list click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for USB mass storage device and USB printing support, (make sure any other printers are turned off or disconnected) right click and uninstall it. If you have any others with exclamation mark or other devices in the list, delete them also.
Let me know what it showed in the device manager.
Then click on Action, across the top of the window and scan for new hardware.
If the printer wasn't listed at all in the Device Manager, try another USB port on the computer and another USB cable.
Restart the computer and the printer also to see if the printer will be detected.
If the printer still isn't recognized, if you have another computer, connect the printer to it to see if it is recognized.
Just to rule out a USB port on the computer, USB cable or hardware issue with the USB port on the printer.
