Connecting a Linksys Broadband Router to a Netgear wireless cable modem gateway

I was wondering how i would go about connecting a WRT54GS v2  Linksys Broadband Router to a Netgear CG814WG v2 wireless cable modem gateway. the reason I'm doing this is to get extra modem ports and i was just wondering what steps i would take to make it work correctly.

If you are trying to add WRT to your network to increase the number of ports then, you can cascade linksys router to wireless modem.Connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the wireless gateway to the linksys router  on the Ethernet port. Also,if the ip address of the Gateway is 192.168.0.1 then, change the ip address of the linksys router to 192.168.0.2.Also,disable the DHCP and Disable NAT under Advance routing on the linksys router.Power cycle the network and it will work.

  • Time Capsule does not wirelessly connect to wireless cable modem gateway

I am trying to get Time capsule to act as what I think is supposed to be a wireless bridge (Apple retail employee's advice) to enable an old G4 iMac upstairs to have wireless ("Airport") online access from the wifi cable modem downstairs. I can get everything to work when I run ethernet cable down the stairs but avoiding that is exactly why I bought the Time Capsule.
I thought time capsule was a wireless device! how do I get it to  speak to the gateway?? Right now it is blinking amber slowly.
Havent tried yet but I would ideally like to run time machine back up of my Macbook pro, from wherever I am, upstairs or downstairs.

Thanks everyone. My understanding is that the time capsule needs to be hard wired to the gateway , not what apple retail store "genius" told me. I really wanted to wifi-enable the stranded G4 (and thus access the laserwriter 8500 cabled to it) upstairs.
-- now I'm re-reading bob timmons' remark, and wondering: i don't think I need time capsule to be a router, do I? I just need it to connect to the G4 with a cable, and receive wifi from the gateway ( ... and do time machine backups). I really only need one ethernet port, and the wifi connectivity.
so on a whim I had also ordered a airport express, thinking it would be fun to get iTunes on an old stereo system. Now I think I need it to do the job of wifi-enabling the upstairs G4 instead. Just came this afternoon. We'll see if this allows me to get rid of the ethernet cable mess.
But first I will try to (restore factory defaults, and then) reconfigure to "join" an existing wifi network (which so far is just the macbook pro and the cable modem gateway). My confidence level that this will work: poor.

  • Netgear Wireless Cable Voice Gateway CG3100 periodically resetting to factory default

My CG3100 has run without issue for years but in the last week it has twice, overnight, reset back to factory defaults. The first time I thought it was a glitch. The second time I am thinking hackers. Whichever, has anyone experienced this before? And if so, where you able to implement a fix? My modem spec is: InformationStandard Specification CompliantEuroDOCSIS 3.0Hardware Version1.04AFSoftware Version3.9.21.10.mp2.V0024

Hello,I had one that dropped out intermittently, and had complained 3 times to tech support.Telstra replaced it with a C6300D. The person who changed it said they had several recent issues with others as well. If you're under contract there is no charge. If you're not, have a chat with  "Disconnections"    in Business Hours, which goes to Adelaide, and they may re-contract you and possibly may be able to negotiate on a modem.

  • How do I set up a connection from my time machine to my newly installed a wireless cable modem.

Hi, I previously I had an ethernet connection from a non-Wireless ADSL modem to my time capsule / airport base station. I now have a wireless cable modem. My mac book can no longer find the the airport base station and is unable to backup to the time capsule. Can my time capsule be set up to pick to use the modem WiFi? I previously used the Airport base station WiFi but I do not need to do that now.

Your modem is also a router that has wireless built in. It also has Ethernet ports on it. So connect your TC the same way as you did before. I don't thing you can connect the TC to your new modem/router box by WiFi and still use it as a backup point.

  • Will Airport work though a Netgear Cable Modem Gateway?

Quick question I have for you guys, will an Airport Extreme work properly through a Netgear CG814CPR Cable Model Gateway?
I'm just running to the store tomorrow morning to pick up an Airport Extreme, but just now I found out I'll be working with a Netgear CG814CPR, and I would like to find out if it'll function as a regular modem, despite having a router built in.
Thanks alot for any help you may provide, a quick response would be greatly appreciated.

the aebs started working the moment I plugged it in but thanks for the suggestion about bridging.
never before had I such an easy and fast router setup literary took me longer to unbox it then to set it up. Amazing range too for a router without an external antenna.

  • Installed a wireless canon Pixma MX432 printer back in November for use with my Mac Book Air. All was working normally until this past week when I began getting a message, "printer not connected." What is going on? Netgear Wireless N Router seems to be ok

My new canon Pixma MX432 printer is not printing. It was printing fine until about ten days ago. I use a Netgear Wireless N router, which is also new. What do I need to do. I get a message when trying to print that says "printer not connected." In addition, my old Gateway laptop will still print fine apparently because it has a cable connection to the printer. Puzzled!

Have you tried rebooting the router? I would unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. Be sure you know the password etc. if that doesn't work, try unplugging and rebooting the printer. Good luck!

  • How do I use a Netgear CM400 cable modem with my Time Capsule router?

I switched out my TWC modem for one I bought. I called and activated a CM400 Netgear modem with time Warner cable. They said it is activated and responding. My time capsule is on a green solid light but i can't connect to the Internet! Why??

Your previous setup may have been a modem router and the TC is connected in the wrong mode.. it should be dhcp and nat with a pure cable modem.. is it?
You also might need to put the TC into the correct mode.. then power off the modem for about 15min.. (try 5min first).. power up the modem.. wait 5min and then power up the TC .. it should grab the public IP and route that to the network.. reboot all the clients so they get fresh connection and see if that works.
If not give us a few screenshots from the airport utility of how the TC is setup.

  • I need help setting up a wireless network and getting connected to the internet. I have a RCN cable modem now and tried to install a wireless linksys today and it was a disaster

I have a MAC desktop and RCN cable that I have internet through now. I tried to set up a linksys wireless router today and could not get the network settings right, or figure out how to create the network, or get connected. I was successfull for only a few minutes because my phone and laptop had picked up the signal. However my desktop still would not connect to the internet. I had to restart my cable modem after because even after returning to directly inserting the desktop to the modem I could not get on the internet. I am able to get on now but would like to have wireless for my laptop and phone. Do I have to have an Apple router? Are there any easy steps I can take to set up a network without doing any damage to my desktop? I am so lost and have been getting pop ups and even my time changed.
Please help a new person to Apple!

why dont you go to linksys.com/downloads and get the quick install for your adpter

  • Trying to connect iBook to internet via Airport, iMac G5, and cable modem

The iBook says it's connected to the G5's local Airport network, but Safari says it's not connected to the internet. I must be missing a setup step, but have no idea what.
This is my first use of Airport other than using the iBook at Wi-Fi spots.
Any suggestions? Please and thank you!
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iMac G5, OS 10.4.8

Do I need an Air Port Base station or a router? After I set up everything on my mac mini, what steps do I need to follow on the iBook to get Internet access?
The AirPort base station is a router. You are not limited to AirPort base stations as non-Apple 802.11g routers (like those from Belkin, D-Link, or Linksys) will work just as well. Using a router, your network configuration would be something like the following:
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] router > (wireless) > wireless computers.
The set up for both computers, to access the router, would basically be the same.
To setup AirPort for High-Speed Cable Internet connectivity:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
    - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
    - Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)

  • Wireless cable modem/router for macbook pro?

My parents just bought a Macbook Pro (their first Mac!) and would like to connect it wirelessly to the internet through high-speed cable (they already have cable TV in their house). Are there cable modems available with built-in wireless capability, or should they get a separate cable modem and wireless router (like I'm using for my Powerbook)? I want to make sure that they have WPA2 security. Can someone offer recommendations for which networking hardware to purchase? Thanks.
    Paul

The AEBS is a wireless router, not a cable modem. A good cable modem is the Motorola 5120 but it is not wireless.
Yes, the AEBS is pricey but it's an excellent product. However, if you wish not to spend that kind of money there are less expensive products by LinkSys, Belkin, D-Link and others. However, none have any Mac support although most all of them will work with Macs - some better than others.

  • Problems connecting IOS devices with new Comcast wireless cable modem?

Just installed a new cable modem from Comcast, it is their new high speed unit manufactured by Cisco. of the three IOS devices I've tried, all running currently the OS , are having problems connecting with  the error "Unable to join the network " Home-XXXX" if you keep asking it may connect but I have to be persistant.  My Devices are iPad 4 g Retna with 30pin connection, an iTouch ,latest model with camers, and current iPad mini. is it me or the modem?

You have probably already solved this issue, but I would hide the comcast wifi network (dont broadcast ssid) and make the password very hard. Make sure that put it on channel that does not conflict with your Airport Extream.
Connect the Comcast modem/router to the airport extream's wan port with an ethernet cable.
Comcast usually ships the DHCP enabled. Use the comcast DHCP server for your airport.
Configure the airport extream to "create a network" set the network to "bridge mode".
Name your network, broadcast the ssid all on the airport. Now all your devices will connect everytime. Use can use the Comcast "private" wireless network for maintenance, etc.
    Just some thoughts... good luck

  • Bridge an AirPort Express from an Extreme connected to a Motorola DOCSIS 3 cable/modem/gateway via an ethernet cable? Can I connect ethernet to the Express to setup/handshake/coordinate, and then unplug the ethernet cable from the Express?

In other words, does the AirPort Extreme NEED to be the device connected to the coaxial cable, or can I connect that cable to the Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem/wireless gateway? (My Internet provider requires DOCSIS 3.0 for speeds above 12 megabits/sec.)
Will the Airport Extreme "program" the Express via an ethernet cable, and than the cable can be removed?
The "bridge" or "repeater needs to be quite a distance away from the physically connected cable modem/wireless gateway and the ethernet- connected AirPort Extreme, and we have wall-to-wall carpeting, and the walls and ceilings are off-limits (family politics), so a looooong ethernet cable is out of the question.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanx!
P.S. The 802.11 in my house (ground floor, about fifty feet away from the modem; in the living room about 35ft away *****! And Motorola touts this wireless gateway as having amazing coverage (360, I think they call it),but in fairness, this house is old and has a 5 hanset cordless landline and a microwave and a fan, etc., etc., etc......

  • Will the iPad Mini connect to LinkSys WRT54G Router

Will the iPad Mini connect Via WiFi to a LinkSys Wireless G Braodband Router?
The model is WRT54G V5, SN CDFBOE865514 and Firmware is the latest 1.02.8 dated 5 Oct 2009
My wife's iPad 2 connects to it well but we have been unable to connect the new iPad Mini to it.
I have read in some of your notes that the Mini will only connect to Firmware 1.02.8n.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Connectivity with WRK54G Broadband Router

I installed my router late last week and since then my downloads have dropped from around 4700 KBS to around 2100 KBS or less.  Checking the setup with Linksys's diagnostic does not show a problem.
Also, on the other Windows XP computer attached (wirelessly), is there any way to know without a doubt that no one else can piggyback onto my connection?
    Thank you for any replies.

Regarding the slow wired router speed:
    1)  Make sure that any "log" files are turned off, unless you really need them.  Log files waste router CPU cycles.
    2)  Some users have reported that their wired router slowed as a result of radio wave interference on the wireless portion of the router.  Try changeing the router's wireless channel to 11 or 1, and see if that helps.  Unplug 2.4 GHz wireless phones and see if that helps.
    3)  Some users have reported slowdowns due to having an unnecessary "domain name" entered on the router.  Unless you need to use a domain name, make sure that your domain name entry is deleted.
    4)  If your wireless is not secured, others may be using your bandwidth.
    5)  If this does not solve the problem, reflash your firmware, and set up your router again from scratch.
Regarding how to secure your router:
Besides using MAC address filtering and disableing SSID broadcast, you should also encrypt your transmissions.  For more information on this, please see my previous post at:
