Connecting a LiveCycle PDF form to an Excel File

Hi folks,
There is some example or good tutorial about this subject?
Thank you,
Yair

This is a pretty good start.  You need to create an ODBC connection to your excel file:

Failing that - could you save your Excel as CSV and import it?

  • How do I connect a LiveCycle PDF form data to an Excel File

I have a Livecycle Time sheet form that's being distributed in the field, what we want to do is be able to save the data directly to an EXCEL database, we want the data to auto populate the excel sheet with the forma data once the field user hit submit or email button.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You should have a look at Stefan Cameron's site, which has many solutions for setting up data connections. Search for spreadsheet generally and here: http://forms.stefcameron.com/2006/09/18/connecting-a-form-to-a-database/.
However please note that if the users have Reader, then the form would need to be Reader Enabled using the full LC Reader Extensions server component. Extending the form in Acrobat will not work.
    Hope that helps,

  • How do I enable a LiveCycle PDF form to be saved in Adobe Reader?

I have an interactive PDF form that I created in LiveCycle. However, when it is opened with Adobe Reader, the user is unable to save it. They can only print from Reader. How do I enable the LiveCycle PDF form to be saved in Adobe Reader?

You have to add save rights with Acrobat.
Open you form in Acrobat and then save it via File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools.

  • Export PDF form to MS Excel. Losing field contents

    Hi there,
I'm using Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
I'm trying to export a PDF form into MS excel for further manipulation, but it seems that Acrobat is unable to export everything into Excel.
    Here what I have done:
"File"> "Save as">"spreadsheet">"MS excel workbook". then I will save onto desktop.
when I open it up in MS excel, i only see the form fields but not the content.
Can anyone help? Is this a acrobat issue or excel issue?
    Thanks

Try flattening the form before exporting to Excel. You can do this via PDF Optimizer, Preflight, the following JavaScript that you execute in the interactive JavaScript console (Ctrl+J):
    flattenPages();
by placing the cursor on that line and pressing Ctrl+Enter, or Enter on the numberic keypad, or by using this free JavaScript-based tool: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/

  • Print whole answer as pdf (not as export excel file)

Dear, we are receiving some info (information of sessions designed by people) with text fields with no limits of characters.
Would it be possible the text box is growing as the people write more or less? Instead of having a "fix box size" with a scrollbar when the text is over the size of the box...
We would like then to print the pdf's with all the text, so an option is also if we can just have a way to print all the text, again from the pdf, not from the excel file with all the answers.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi;
A feature in a Paid level subscription (Basic and Plus) is downloading a PDF of the response from the View Responses tab by selecting any response row and choosing "Download Response as PDF Form".  This downloads a PDF of the response with all multi-line text fields expanded to fit all the text the user input so it can be printed.
    Thanks,

  • LiveCycle PDF form and SQL Server connection

I'd really like to move from a server-scripted event registration form to a LiveCycle online PDF form, submitted by email and redirecting the user to a Webpage.
The only obstacle I can see is a dropdown list of users, where a user selects his/her name and then proceeds to choose an event, date, and time. On my
Webpage form now (scripted in ColdFusion), I use a CFSELECT, which works perfectly. But in looking at LiveCycle, I see that it supports an OLEDB but probably
not a connection to SQL Server or Oracle. Am I correct? Or is there some workaround that will populate my dropdown list?

    Hello!
Download jTDS - SQL Server and Sybase JDBC driver from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=33291
In Oracle SQL Developer open Tools -> Preferences
Database -> Third Party JDBC Drivers
    Add Entry
Browse the unzipped driver and add the jtds-1.2.jar file

  • LiveCycle PDF Forms and Barcode Fields

Ive also posted this subject on the LiveCycle forum but thought I would reach out to my fellow CF'ers. So here's my issue, Im using Coldfusion to populate a LiveCycle form that contains a barcode field. The barcode disappears when the form is flattened. The image of the barcode disappears, but the value of the barcode displays.
Anyone experience this type of issue? As always, all and any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks ahead of time.

No version of Reader can save a filled in form unless it has been enabled first.
To enable, open the file in Acrobat then go to Advanced>Enable usage rights in Adobe Reader...
And for my standard disclaimer, if you are going to use the forms in a corporate environment, be sure to study and understand the usage limits for enabled forms (the limit is 500 uses, but there are caveats to that) in the EULA. Mostly the enabled forms are meant for very small time users. If you do not meet that requirement, Adobe sells another product that can enable files for unlimited uses but it costs in the tens of thousands of dollars and is a server side solution.
    Hey Graffii,
I enabled the usage rights and that did help with saving in Reader 7. I am a little concerned about the limit of 500 uses. Let me try and understand you a little better. I have a PDF that has a couple form fields and you're saying that the PDF can only be opened 500 times? I've never heard of restrictions on PDFs before. Does this happen after you place just 1 form field? How do I find out more information? I looked in the EULA, but found nothing.
Also, what does Adobe mean here "Enable users of Adobe Reader®   (version 8 or later) to fill in and save PDF forms locally." Are they saying that you need Reader 8 or later to read a form or that you need Acrobat Pro 8 or later to enable the form feature?
It's all very confusing because one of the features they tout in version 9 is the ability to save forms locally, but once I enable the form I could save it with Reader 7. It's hard to tell if they are referring to Reader 9 or Acrobat Pro 9.
    Thanks

  • LiveCycle/PDF Forms Submission Help

    Hello all,
I've recently been tasked with updating the website for my employer, a County Public Safety Department in PA.  We currently accept forms from a number of other departments in all forms.  Some come via FAX, some email, etc.  We're trying to simplify the process and put all of the available forms on our website, and allowing them to be submitted electronically.  My boss wanted me to look into FDF, but it seems that is a bit outdated.
At this point, I simply need some help determining exactly what software I need.
I need to have a multitude of documents available on the website and once filled out, they need to go to a myriad of people.  I see an email submission is fairly easy, but as this is government, they want things sent to several people and logged in a central location.  What software do I need on the server to accept the documents?  They don't neccesarily need to go into a DB, but that option is available.
    Thanks
    jdestefano911

    Hi,
If considering PDF forms, then it is important to consider what software the user will have to open/fill in/submit these forms, e.g. Acrobat or Reader or third party PDF viewers.
Before you deploy a form you can entend its functionality for users with Reader. If you don't do this, users with Reader will only be able to submit by http.
Here is a summary of deployment options and the features/restrictions in each case: http://assure.ly/etkFNU. Click the link at the end of the post for the summary.
If processing a lot of data then it may be worthwhile considering components from LiveCycle Enterprise Suite. http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/. Particularly when requiring logging of interactions and a workflow with different outcomes.
Maybe talk to an Adobe rep in your area.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • PDF form created from excel is missing fields when copied into word ... sometimes but not others...

    Hello,
As part of my dissertation project I have created countless tables in excel.  Using the Save as PDF feature on Mac Office Word 2011 I created that tables as PDF's which I dropped into my word document and Cropped them down to size.
For some reason, when I open the word document on the PC, some of the info in the tables is randomly gone.  Also, when we send the word file (with embeded PDF's) to a journal for publication they try to combine all the files as a PDF and the tables again lose data.
    1) Why is this happening?
    2) I also noticed that in Mac Word 2011 I had an option to "Save as Adobe PDF". when I select this option I am given several other options (see below) for the type of PDF that will be created.  Which of these options would be ideal to overcome the problem listed above.
    high quality print
    oversized pages
    PDF/A-1b:2005 (CMYK)
    PDF/A-1b:2005 (RBG)
    PDF/X-1a:2001
    PDF/X-3:2002
    Smallest File Size
    Standard
    Thanks,
    Paul

Hmm -- one of my customers is a turkish building company
(Kusadasi BTW), and when *they* add some contents to the DB,
they´ll be entering turkish chars. It´s in particular the
turkish "I" which is pretty different, and this is when a search
for keywords containing a western "I" will fail.
Could that be the problem in your case ?

  • Create and populate pdf forms from a xml file for follow up information

Forgive my amateurishness, I have a simple .xml that was created with excel with name, address, date of service, age, dob, account #, unit, and business name.  I need a form to be pre-populated with the .xml data but have other fields (mainly Yes/No check boxes) that need to be populated by other users.  This users would then finish filling out the form and return it to me via email.  I have created the form in LC Designer ES2 and created it with Acrobat Pro X.  However when I attempt to import data I can only see the first .xml record.  So my question is, how do I create multiple .pdf forms for each .xml record?  Do I need to use Java within LC Designer?  Or use Adobe Pro?  I am not afraid to attempt to code, (I have many excel programs that batch print to .pdf using vb).
    Thank you in advance

Try the forum for LiveCycle Designer.

I don't play with forms enough to give an answer. However, you might search the Forms sub-forum for a possible solution. You might also find better answers there, though many of the forms experts drop by here too.

  • Filling PDF Form with XML data file

    Hello everybody.
    I need help.
I created a form with LiveCycle Designer. I filled it and generated a XML data files. Now, I would like to fill the same blank PDF form with this XML data file.
I know that I can do it with Adobe 8.0 but I must do it in an C# / .NET application that I have to create.
(Forms I'm creating are not for me, I create the forms. Client uses them form but he don't have Adobe Acrobat 8.0, so he can't realise the automatic PDF filling with Adobe Acrobat 8.0)
So I am looking for help with ".NET" "COM" or other library to help me to do it. If someone has other idea just give it.
    Thanks for your reply
Jean Pierre (sorry for my bad English)

    Hello Mike
Thank's for your reply. I used XPAAJ and it works very well but my company his develloping software with C# langage.
I tried to convert XPPAJ to C#, I did it with the Java Langage Conversion Assistant but "Adobe Library" included in jar files cannot be translated to C#/.NET library. So, I can't use it.
I found some C#/.NET API on the NET but they are very expensive and my company don't want to pay. They want me to create my own solution with library given by Adobe when you buy Adobe 8. So I am looking for this library.
Is there an Adobe LiveCycle Designer SDK to help me.
Thank you in advance for your reply

Yes, it indeed boggles the mind.  I'm of course referring to the fact that your post concerns Verizon Wireless products and services.  This forum is dedicated exclusively to Verizon Communications services.   As you probably know, Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications operate as separate companies.
If you need help for a Verizon wireless product or service, it's best to direct questions to the Verizon Wireless forums.  You can reach them by clicking on "Wireless" (either here or at the top of the page).
Good luck and I sincerely hope you get your issue resolved.

  • Exporting pdfs to word and excel file formats  and translating

Hello, I am new to this forum and came here because I am a professional translator. Although we should be given documents in their original file format, in the real world translators have to convert pdfs such as manuals or annual reports into word or excel files. Given the fact we often work for agencies, and/or do not work directly with the people who created the original files inthe first place, with the best will in the world we normally have to make do with converting the pdf file, or lose the job.
I would like advice on the best way to learn more about  pdf to word and excel conversion and ways of keeping formatting when it is helpful and removing what is not.
The general problem is (well the problem is really ignorance on my part!) of course getting the "look and feel" similar in the converted document and knowing more about manipulating the formating and elements which get converted.
Any help or pointers to online tutorials whether multimedia or text much appreciated.

Thank you Lori, this is so clear! I am a teacher as well and there are clear presentations and wonderfully clear presentations and this is in the latter category.
A tiny suggestion. You would not believe how many pdf files exported to word I have received that are Portuguese content and the sender has not set the language to Portuguese! So in your text entry you might want to mention the language setting. I know it is obvious, but as we know sometimes we cannot see the obvious!
I will need to look far more carefully at the final things in your video.
Are there any special considerations for exporting pdf files as Excel? My original doubt was I had to translate some accounting documents. 95% of the document was numbers which did not changing (except for commas to periods and vice versa due to different separator conventions). I did not now how to just select e.g. the vertical column with text. I will go back and try with this suggestion because in this case the look and feel of the numbers was important and the precise fonts etc. seemed to cause problems. But now I am getting out of my depth!
    Thank you again!
