Connecting a MBP to a PC

HELP ME! I'm sure this question has been asked about a thousand times before but anyway..
I have a lovely new MBP and I'm trying to connect it wirelessly to my Dell desktop PC. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. The only progress I have made is that if I connect them directly with a cable via the ethernet ports then the PC can see the MBP and I can transfer files but the MBP doesn't see the PC in Network Browser. I have pinged the PC from the MBP and it works fine so what's going on????!

I think it has something to do with one being wired and one being wireless.
I'd agree, based on my experience. In 2009, I had an MBP on Wi-Fi and a PC on ethernet. The ONLY time I could get them to see each other and share was when I plugged the ethernet into the MBP. BOTH wireless was a no-go too. They had to be hard wired to connect.

  • HT201177 How to connect my MBP 13" (Mid-2012) to a projector/LED TV using a mini-display port VGA adapter (CAPDASE)

Hello Sirs, I'm having a hard time connecting my MBP 13" (mid-2012) to my projector using my mini-display-VGA out adapter. But when I switch to Windows 7 (via bootcamp), it can easily be connected... Please help me with this problem. Thanks

Try connecting the Minidvi to the VGA and connect it all together, first try turning ing on the MBP, then connecting dvi to the the projector. Make sure your projector input is set for VGA. If noo joy invert the affored mentioned proceedure. You should see your image if not, try going to system preferences>displays, click display.   Try readjusting the resolutions in display. reboot monitor.

  • How to connect my MBP at my TV ?

    Hi,
I would like to connect my MBP at my TV via HDMI, peritel would be best , how do I do that ?

So S-Video is better quality than RCA?
Yes. RCA mashes all the signals into one pin. This results in lower picture quality than S-Video which separates brightness and color signals.
Both are far inferior in resolution and quality to the current digital standards, so when you connect your laptop via S-Video, the resolution is going to seem very low and coarse compared to your laptop monitor or digital TV, and RCA even worse. This low resolution can be no problem for simply watching videos. But you'll find it hard to read the Mac interface if you try to use an old TV as a computer monitor. A new digital HDTV, on the other hand, would be a sharp, high-resolution monitor.

  • What cable is needed to connect a MBP to an external Display?

I've been browsing Apple Store for cables to connect my MBP to my Sony HDTV, which both has HDMI input and a VGA input, I'm very confused about what to choose. I don't want to buy something that I won't be able to use.

You want the MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable.  If you have a Thunderbolt port, the adapter plugs into that as well.

  • Poor resolution connecting my MBP to TV via HDMI. visable vertical lines.

    hey!
so I've been googeling around for awhile and it seems A LOT of people have this issue. but I haven't been able to find a solution yet. Story goes... connecting the MBP to the TV via DVI to HDMI gives poor resolution. the weird thing is this only happens every other time. I've tried it on my macbook pro (2007) and another macbook (2010) and it has the same issue with both (but only sometimes). any thoughts?
    thanks!

To Csound's good advice, let me just add that there may be a specific HDMI port on the TV that you must use if you're going to send audio to the TV separately. This should also be explained in the TV's manual.

  • Connecting 2011 MBP to HDTV (Samsung)

    Hi all.
New to the Apple community and Apple computers, but I just recently bought a 2011 13.3" MBP.  Since we are a cable-less household, we watch lots of programs through the XBox 360 (Netflix, Hulu) and through our computers.  Today, my order from Monoprice.com arrived including a display port to HDMI adapter and a new 1.4 HDMI cable.
I was able to get video out of my MBP to my Samsung PN43D450, but no audio.  I've read that in the past, you've had to use 2 cables to get audio from the MBP to an HDTV, but this has supposedly changed.  Additionally, the only way I could get the HDTV to act as a display was to mirror my display to the second monitor (HDTV) and play with the resolution settings.  Is there an easier way to set this up so that I don't have to mess with any setting when I connect my MBP to my TV?  Also, can anyone confirm that I should be able to transmit audio through the display port to HDMI connection?
    Thanks for the help.

The new MacBook Pros supports Audio via MiniDisplay Port to HDMI. Be sure the adapter you're using is supporting the audio. Have a look in System Preferences -> Sound -> Output if it show's the HDMI connection as an output device.

  • Issues when connecting my MBP to HDTV...

I'm trying to connect my MBP to my LG HDTV.
My MBP is older...late 2007 or early 2008. The tv is around 3 - 3.5 years old.
I'm connecting using a DVI - HDMI adapter plug, then a HDMI cable. Not sure if this is possibly the issue, but...the TV shows some of what's on my MBP screen, but not all. It shows the original snow leopard desktop background, rather than my current background. I cannot see any of my desktop icons, nor my dock or the bar at the top w/ time etc. Also, when I open a movie file on my desktop, it does play on the TV but I have to drag it to the far right until unviewable on my MBP & only then is it viewable/does it show on my TV. But the quality of the video is pretty bad.
I've tried all of the resolutions on my MBP as well as on the TV & have tried to match them up, but it hasn't helped.
    Any suggestions?

The LG TV model is 32LC7D.
The problem I'm having is detailed at this website, but maybe someone here knows a easier solution...

  • A 'How to..." question - Connecting a MBP to a HDTV

Just finished installing my new Pioneer HDTV (PDP-427XD) and want to connect my MBP to it. I'm not ready to invest in an Apple TV just yet so I am looking to connect the MBP physically to my HDTV.
Can anyone recommend the best way to do this. I know I need a cable but don't know which one to get.
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks for the help.

What you need is a DVI to HDMI cable like this one from monster. The DVI end will hook right up to your MBP and your TV will have a HDMI slot so this is all you need.

  • Connecting my MBP Unibody, to a VGA monitor.

As the subject says, i'm so confused with all the adapter options are out there for connecting my mbp to a vga monitor. Do i buy the expensive, apple branded cable, or the substitute? In many of the product descriptions it says the adapter works with MB and not the MBP, is there a difference? Can someone put me out of my misery?

Find out what connection your computer has, Mini-DVI, Mini-Displayport etc. Then buy the correct adapter.
I believe all Unibodys have a mini-displayport on them (mine does), so you'll need a Mini-Displayport to VGA adapter. It does not matter if it is the apple brand or not, you won't notice a difference.
I'd recommend getting it form here:
    http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.Mini%20Displayport%20to%20VGA
Cheap product, free shipping. I bought the HDMI adapter form there myself, and I own two apple adapters and functionally there is no difference. It feels a little cheaper but if your okay with that and need to save money, then it's fine.

  • When I connect my MBP to another screen, all fonts turn dark and my VLC screen is really dark!

    Hey.
    Hope anybody can help me.
I have a Macbook Pro with Lion installed.
But... When I connect my MBP to my Samsung 32" screen.
    * My fonts (Only on my Samsung, not on my MBP screen) turn dark, from a light greey to a really dark greey.
      * When my VLC screen is on my MBP its normal, but when I put it on my other screen then it becomes really dark so its impossile to see whats on the screen.
Its the same on every screen i have tried (an LG aswell).
I have had this a couple of weeks now, ever since I borrowed a HDMI adapter from a friend and connected it with my MBP.
Its really becoming a problem. Since I can't watch anything on my screen anymore.
    Does anybody have a solution?

    Try:
    - Going to NF support site/contacting them
    - Try a different adopter
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Connect 2014 MBP Retina to Three monitors

    Hi all,
I've been attempting to connect my MBP (integrated and not dedicated graphics card) to three external monitors unsuccessfully though I am unsure why. I have done some research and discovered that it only 'supports' two external screens, though I am unsure why this is the case? I Can connect three monitors to any HD 4000 + chip without any issues and the integrated graphics should be more than capable of handling it? Upon connecting a third a random screen will just turn off.
Is there any way of disabling the integrated screen in favour of an external? so running 3 external rather than 2 + integrated?
Is my only option here to use a displaylink adapter? I'm failing to see why the laptop has three display outs. If you can only use two.
Thanks for any help, or explanation provided.
    Best.
    Swires.

Leave the TBD connected to your laptop and do 2 types of resets (google) PRAM and then an SMC reset.

  • Hi, I am trying to connect my MBP to my tv through HDMI and minidisplay. I can get sound when I am watching a dvd, but when I try to watch youtube or something on the internet there is no sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The MBP is mid-2012. The display is working fine when I connect it to my TV. I have a HDMI that can carry sound to my LG tv when it is coming from a DVD. I have changed my preferences in sound to output to be LGtv, but it still won't work when I want to have sound from the internet or from iTunes.
I attempted to change the settings in MIDI setup, but that also isn't making it work.
    Thankyou for any help.

I tried it.  This page: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewFeature?id=440027055&affId =1884404 opens iTunes, and allows me to watch past performances - it works fine.  There doesn't seem to be any way to watch live, unless it just hasn't started yet.  Unfortunately I have to go to work in a few minutes so I can't check again tonight.

  • Connecting a MBP to a Samsung 32" HDTV

    Hey guys,
I've been trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my Samsung LN-S3251D LCD. I am currently going through a DVI to HDMI cable. When I connect laptop and TV, my desktop mirrors on both, which is fine...
However, I am not using all the real estate on my TV. When I set the display preferences on my MacBook Pro to 1280x720p (the native resolution of my TV) for the Samsung, it expands the image too much. That is, the finder bar at the top is off the screen, the dock is partially cut off on the bottom, and some of my icons on my desktop don't show up. I thought it could be a problem with overscanning, so I shut off overscanning in the Samsung options in Display Preferences. When I did that, though, it started boxing my picture (putting black bars on all four sides of the desktop image.
So, to wrap up this really long winded question: How do I get my MacBook Pro to display a FULL 1280x720 image on my TV, AND a 1440x900 picture on my actual laptop screen?
Thanks a bunch ahead of time!

Wow...what a rookie mistake. I just pulled out my owner's manual and noticed that little disclaimer.
I have always liked DVI's picture a little better ( I do a lot of HD stuff on my MBP), so I guess I was just getting a little greedy.
Building on my question, though, is there a way to have both my MacBook Pro and my Samsung display my desktop in their full resolution? As in have my MBP show my desktop and applications in 1440x900 and the TV show the same thing in 1280x720?
By the way, thanks for the advice BSteely...I just hooked up a spare VGA cable using the DVI to VGA connector and everything is scaled perfectly.

  • Magic Mouse not connecting to MBP after Sleep or Re-start

This has been an on going problem for me since I upgraded to OSX 10.8 on my MBP.  Since the upgrade my Magic Mouse will no longer connect to my MBP after it has gone to sleep, restarted or shut down.  The only way I have been able to get a connection is to Click on the BT icon goto the mouse>Open  Preferances.  At this point the computer is 'Waiting for a Bluetooth mouse to be discovered' and it will keep searching forever.  Clicking on the mouse button or moving the mouse around does not do anything even though the green light on the bottom of the mouse indicates it is on & attempting communication.  I have to turn the mouse off for 3-5 seconds and then turn the mouse back on.  This is the only way for the computer to see the mouse, I then click connect the mouse connects and all is good until the computer sleeps, gets restarted or shut down.
I have tried resetting the PRAM & SMC.  I have also deleted the mouse from bluetooth preferances and re-paired it with the computer several times.  I even tried deleting the PList and re-pairing but nothing yet has worked!
Open to any and all suggests! PLEASE help!

    Hi,
I have a mid 2014 15 inch MacBook Pro and I'm experiencing now the same issue. I have an iPad and an iMac and the issue is only with the MacBook Pro.
I went to System Preferences > Network > Wi - Fi and selected 'Ask to join new networks'. It didn't remove completely the issue (is still not finding the network) but at least I don't have to turn the wifi on and off all the time because after a while is able to connect.

    Hello,
I have a Yamaha DVD Receiver ("Natural Sound", RDX-E700) and would like to connect it to my MBP so I can hear the my music from iTunes through the loudspeakers connected to the DVD Receiver. Every time I try it doesn't work, even if I switch to AUX mode or whatever... I have a cable which allows me to do so on the big TV and DVD player (also Yamaha), but not on my little Yamaha.
    Can you help me?

  • After connecting my MBP to a projector, my display screen looks different...any ideas on how to fix?

I used my MBP today at work to present a PowerPoint presentation using the projector my office has.  I have no idea what the brand of the projector is -- but now the appearance of all of my programs and desktop is different.
The sizing is not what it was set to, and swiping larger or smaller does nothing to fix it.
The font looks different, bolder, messier.
Does anyone know how to fix this?  Or why it changed after being connected to another device?
Help!  This is a trivial question -- but I loved the settings I had -- and the options in the setting menus don't have anything helpful.

I didn't even notice that. I think that fixes it. Thanks.
