Connecting a network printer to my mac

I have a macbook pro(OSX 10.8) and recently a bought a D-link DNS-325 nas. The nas has an ability to connect printer to it. I have a brother mfc-7420 connected to it. I managed to connect the printer from the windows computers so I know it works. I have a problem connecting it to the mac. When I add a new printer and put the IP address of the nas and specify the driver it go through. The problem is when i am trying to print it doesn't print at all and shows the printer as paused all the time.

The best action will be to use the printer information for the Windows printer as a guide.
So in Windows, if you select the printer and right-click and select Properties (or Printer Properties on Win7) and then select the Ports tab and then click the Configure Port button, this will show the connection settings being used by Windows to the Brother. Of importance is the Protocol being used and if RAW, what Port is used, and if LPR, what Queue Name is used. With this information you can then configure the Mac to connect using the same settings.

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • Cannot connect to network printer: Canon MX330 series

    Hello,
Not sure if this issue has been posted before, if so then please forgive me. I recently purchased my first Mac, a Macbook pro running on Mac OS X 10.6.6.
I have a network printer, a Canon MX330, at home that is connected to the family desktop computer, a PC on Windows XP.
When I connect my printer to the USB on my Macbook, it works instantly and I can print a test page. I can also go on my Desktop PC and print on that printer through the network.
The problem arises when I connect my printer to my desktop PC. The Macbook is unable to connect to the printer. However, I can browse my Desktop's shared folders from my Macbook. The printer also works locally on the Desktop as well as from the other PC's that are on the network, but not on the Macbook.
If anyone can please help, that would be really appreciated. Right now I have no choice but to copy my files to the public shared folder, then go upstairs to the Desktop, open them, and print.
    Thanks!
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
What they have described is the correct procedure for adding a Windows shared printer to the Mac. Given that you can connect to the shared folder on the PC then this process should work but can take some time.
The first thing to ensure is that the printer on the XP PC is shared. In Printers & Faxes on XP, right-click the printer icon and select Sharing. Select 'Share this printer' and set the Share Name to a single name (spaces can impact things). OK this to close the driver properties window.
With regards to the three columns that appear, the first column is for the workgroup name. If you are using XP Professional then the name will be Workgroup. The Home version will show MSHome. This workgroup name can take a while to appear (the Mac needs to determine who is the master browser on the network) but you can help the Mac by opening System Preferences > Network and for the connection type you are using (Airport or Ethernet) select it and then select the Advanced button. With this new view you will see the WINS tab. Select this and you will see the Mac's workgroup name and the workgroup it belongs to, which will most likely be blank. Click the drop menu and the workgroup name will show. Select this name and OK the change.
Now try adding the printer again, selecting the Windows icon. The workgroup name of XP PC should show in the first column. If it does, select it and then second column will show the XP computer name. Select this and you should get prompted to enter the admin user details for XP. After entering the correct information the shared printer name will appear. Select this and then you can progress to selecting the PrintFab MX330 driver.

    Hey there Max,
If you can’t find the printer in the network browser, it may be easier to add the printer manually using the URL field, as shown in the article below.

  • Can't connect to Network Printer

I just bought a laptop with Vista.  I have  wireless router connected to a wired router.  My two desktops are conneted to the wired router and the laptop is wireless to the wireless router.
My printer does not have a wireless card, so I have it plugged to one desktop, and I have the other desktop using it as a network printer.
I can't seem to get the wireless to see the printer.  I have enabled file & print sharing on all computers, and the print spooler service is started on all computers.  When I do "Add a printer" it doesn't see the printer.  I tried doing "Add a network printer" and entering the name as \\computername\printername (where computername is the computer the printer is attached to), but I alternately get these two errors:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The server print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine" or
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Makes ure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to network."
I have not been able to see the desktop computer at all in the network options, but I do see the wired router listed, but no computers connected to the router.
Can anyone help with this?  I am at my wit's end.                     Dan

    Hello,
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142
    Might be the right hotfix!
I will be trying this hotfix this week. I have this problem SO bad right now. The only slight difference is that my print server is running Microsoft Storage Server
2003, and all my clients are now windows 7. The problem hits users at seemingly random times, random 5% of the company per day, and all printer pools...it made no sense at all!
I'll keep you posted as to whether the asyncronous RPC reg key helps, or if your hotfix does.
There is also something i found that works (for 48 hours straight anyways):
On vista/7 client, go to Devices and Printers and click Add Printer
Then choose Local Printer. I know your printer is shared on a print server, just stick with me here!!
Choose Create New Port and select Local Port...
When it asks you for a port name, type in the UNC ADDRESS of the printer (ie \\printserver1\HPLaser5000n).
When it asks you for a driver, point it to the right location where you downloaded a clean set of drivers matching your client OS and printer. Or press the Windows Update button.
finish adding the printer. You will notice the name of the printer doesn't have a "...on [printserver1"
anymore, BUT it will still print!!
I have done this for 4 printer pools and for the last 2 days the 1 user i set it up for has had no printing problems. May be total coincidence, but at this point i was willing to try anything. I'm not sure if this constitutes fooling windows 7 into setting
up a remote printer as a local printer, and i'm also doubting this will be deployable via GPO or script...but still, i hope it helps.

  • Connect to network printer programatically

    Hi All
Is it possible to connect directly to a network printer
using gpib or visa dll directly (i.e. low level C Code). I don't want to use
LabView for the purpose. Could I get some example code.
    Thanks

I had to work on the prototype that defined the difference
of using LabView and C API and the advantages of LabView.
So the easiest way is to connect to the printer and show how much
programming effort is required and I am new to this field so I had some
problems. But I have successfully connected to the printer using VISA.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Installation fails connecting to network printer

Installed new motherboard, processor Phenom II X4, memory into system. I installed:
    Win XP Pro SP3
Windows Firewall disabled; no third party AV, firewall software (brand new OS install)

In the installation error log: CSLPInterface:: InstallDevice caught in exception, Exception from Service 0x8007000D
Run: Driver UI Plug-In exits returning 50

    Any ideas
    Thanks

    T,
I'm curious if you ever got this resolved.  I'm having the same problem with a Photosmart C5180.
It all started because I couldn't scan, so after resetting everything (laptop, printer, switch, router) and it still not working- I decided I'd just reinstall the software.  I decided to download the latest software from hp's site, uninstalled the old software and installed the new software.  I select Network Printer, it finds the printer and then proceeds to install the device - where after 70 percent or so, it fails out providing me the error:
    Now Launching=X:\hpzdui01.exe -1 XXX -f X:\FIVins??.DAT
CSLPInterface::InstallDevice caught in exception, Exception from Service 0xE0000228
RUN: Driver UI Plug-In exits returning 50
    Exit code=50
Which is similiar to yours, the only exception of course being the Service ID.
I've run a L3 and L4 uninstall but still get the same problem.  I've deleted all TCP printer ports since the uninstall didn't delete them, thinking that may be the problem and it wasn't.  I searched for the Service number it lists above in the registry and didn't find it.  Tried installing by right clicking on the exe and selecting Run As Administrator.  None of these fixed the problem.
I've been chatting with HP support online (3 times) and have done the following:
    Reinstalled
    Uninstalled
    L3 Uninstall
    Rebooted
Set firewall exceptions for both inbound and outbound
    disabled firewall
    disabled antivirus
    reinstalled
    uninstalled
    powered off printer
    unplugged network & power supply
pressed the power button on the printer for 30 seconds to deplete the stored power in the capacitors
    powered the thing back on
Verified network connectivity by going to the printer web page
    reinstalled
    uninstalled
Uninstalled using Windows Install Cleanup utility
    reinstalled
    uninstalled
    L4 uninstall
    rebooted
Turned off my wireless connection on the laptop, plugeed into wired connection
    reinstalled
    uninstalled
Finally was told it was a problem with my laptop and politely asked if there was anything else they could help me with.
I believe its a problem with their software since my laptop shows no other signs of issue and the printer works on another laptop running Vista Home Premium (just like mine) with no issue.  I was printing ok before the issue but for some reason had an issue with scanning leading to this problem.
Kind of makes me want to go out and buy a multi-function from a different manufacturer.
    What a waste of time!
If you've been able to resolve your issue, please let me know what you did.  If anyone has any ideas, I'd be appreciative if you could let me give me some idea as to what to try next.

  • Best networked printer for a MAC based network?

I may regret asking this :"), but what is the best network printer to use on a MAC based network? I have been the victim on the bloatware HP drivers for years, and am really sick of them. But what do I purge this nightmare for? Canon (like the MX860) looks interesting and is multifunction (a requirement). Lexmark seems to making a comeback, and Brother as well. Epson has seemed to do OK as well. Who has the most reliable drivers for the OSX platform, updates them the most regularly, and seems to actually care about Apple (as opposed to pandering to the Windows crowd almost exclusively).?
    Comments?
    Dan O

I did my homework for network printer/scanner/fax and came up with the Brother Color Laser MFC-9840 CDW. It's got every button and whistle, and they all work on a Mac or PC network. You can scan from the machine and pick which Mac to send the scan to, or scan from a Mac. Sheet feeder works for fax and scan, real duplex printing. All works on Leopard. They have lower models which will also work, but without the Color, or Wireless (which we don't use).
I've seen great on-going driver development with the latest operating systems...

  • How to read connected wifi network password programetically in Mac

    Hi,
In my application, i want to read currently connected wifi network password programetically.
Is there any way that i can use apple api's to read wifi network password.
I feel there should be some way to read in Mac also, because windows exposes an api - WlanGetProfile, which returns complete profile of currently connected wifi network along with the password.
So i want to know the similar api in Mac.
I have gone throught he /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist - but i contains only ssid name only, no password is saved in this file.
Can any one let me know about this.
    With regards,
    K.Thejonath.

    Thanks for the info.
However i am able to read wifi password in Mac OSX.
It is possible making use of api's CWKeychainCopyPassword() & CWKeychainCopyEAPUsernameAndPassword() .
    With regards,

  • Network Printer Problem from Mac to Windows

Hi all, hoping someone can help. I have a Canon MF4350d printer which is shared on a windows machine. I can access the windows machine, I have installed the latest drive for this printer onto my mac, from the canon website and when i go to print I get the following:
    Canon UFR ll Printer Driver
    An error occurred.: -50
Then the printer icon starts jumping and when i click on that I see the following under status:
    On Hold(Authentication required)
I have yet to print from this macbook to a networked printer. Very disappointing.
Anyone have this issue? Anyone know of a working fix? Thanks Guys.

If you search within this forum (search block, upper right), you will see that PAHU has answered this several times. For example, search for "UFRII windows."
Printing on OS X isn't quite as simple as on Windows - quite often, manufacturers provide drivers that are limited to the comm protocol "they want you to use," and Windows Printing (SMB) is usually not one of those. In fact, most USB printers get USB-only drivers.

  • Need help connecting to network printer using xfce and cups

    Hello
please can someone assist me with setting up a printer.
I am running arch and xfce desktop.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo R800 USB printer connected to a wireless Belkin all-in-one Print Server.
I do not know how to connect to this printer.
I am not conversant in CUPS or network printing and would very much like to use the printer.
My arch box is connected through cable to a wireless router.
The print server is connected to the wireless router and the router confirms the print server is attached to the network.
The print server IP address is 192.168.0.100.
The printer server has a web interface which I used to set wireless and TCP settings. I should say that I went into this interface and configured the print server which is totally usable and fine from a Vista laptop using wireless - vista laptop "sees" the print server and prints over wireless, therefore I know the server and printer are working together and all the print server settings are fine. I dont know how Vista connects, it just does!
I tried installing gutenprint and foomatic, went into the CUPS server page (localhost:631) and found my printer but I'm not sure if my connection string (socket://192.168.0.100:9100) is correct. I've tried several values and several Epson drivers from the CUPS web interface, all to no avail. I just get this message:

    EDIT:
    SOLVED!
the problem was that gutenprint needed to be installed.
I looked at the rastertops file in /usr/lib/cups/filter and it was very small, handfull of lines, but refered to gutenprint (whatever that is).
"pacman -Q gutenprint" revealed it was not installed.
    All is fine now.
    GREAT!

  • Connect my network printer to macbook air

I've recently switched from windows to Mac - I have first gen MAc book air. I'm trying to connect a wireless printer to it. (Kyocera Taskalfa 250ci). The mac can't find it, so I type in the IP address under the IPP setting. But it just won't connect. I have downloaded the relevant printer drives as well. But no joy.
    Any advice?

Apple seems to have dropped the ball here,
I have been having the same problem with (Kyocera Taskalfa 3050ci) It seems that the Macs can't detect the printer
I have tried two different Macbook Pros, a 15 inch and a 13 inch they are both 2011 models, they connect once and that's it
they never detect the printer anytime after.
