Connecting a new 1080p Apple TV to Component TV
Just purchased a new 1080p Apple TV and want to connect it to my older plasma TV with component inputs. I purchased one of these, http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011410 &p_id=8125&seq=1&format=2, to do the conversion, but I'm not able to get a clear picture. All of the lines are slanted down to the left, like it can't sync. Audio seems to be working OK. I also tried connecting an HDMI DVD player, and that works fine, so the converter is apparently working correctly. Any idea why the Apple TV isn't playing nice with the converter?

Trying to decide whether to connect to receiver using HDMI or optical.I have gone through FOUR of the new "black box" Apple TVs (and a couple of brand-new HDMI cables). They all have this problem: Lift the unit and the picture goes black. There is clearly a manufacturing defect in the HDMI port for ALL Apple TV units.
Furthermore, it has become apparent that when inadvertently disconnecting HDMI when powered on (or deliberately) it eventually causes the HDMI port to fail completely.

I have a Ipod Touch that I have an apple ID for and have set up on my MAC OS with Itunes and all that jazz.
I however fully admit I know very little about properly using Itunes especially when I get new Ipods. Case and Point = I have 6 different Ipod versions and have never known how to transfer the music from any on of them to a new one or add it to one library because one time when plugging in a Ipod nano I lost everything off my other ipod nano and my library and it all just didn't work out well.
Now I have another Ipod Touch. I learned that you should use the same apple id for a new Ipod-thats something new I didn't know. The others are under Id's and emails I don't even remember honestly. Not sure how I'll ever fix that.
I've read about 2 user accounts. Get stuck with something about a key on my mac wanting authorization when I had two accounts, so thats just out.
I've read about 2 libraries, but do not really understand the process & have not gotten anywhere with the pressing option while opening ITunes-Do I have to have my second touch plugged in first? That doesn't seem right.
My Main question, well, one of em: I set up the second touch with same Apple ID but I have not attached to my Mac Because I am afraid of whatever may happen. So: Will my Mac say "Hey, what's this Second ipod and what's your purpose kinda deal?" or Will it replace my other ipod and wipe it blank, my Mac then saying some other choice words to me about the attempt of two ipods. . .?
So-My Goal here: When I open ITunes or it opens when connected to one of the touches (at this point I've lost hope on the other ipods for now) how do I make it so that under devices it shows the names of Two Different Ipods-I did name them differently if that matters. And How then do I make the Mac know which touch I connect or will it just Know by the powers that be? And How Can I Split some of the data from my 1st touch to my 2nd touch? And Add new data to one or the other or both.
My No Logic behind it Easy idea I wonder of: Can I just connect the new Blank touch in to my mac that already has a touch with Data on it, both under the same email and apple id, and have nothing go wrong? Will my Mac set it up like a new ipod and list it as a new one under devices ? ? Then Ask another question on how to transfer some of my data from one to the other in another Incredibly Long post, such as this?
Sharing between the two (and maybe the others later one): I only have 1 MAC so the whole home share doesn't seem to help me here. But I've read of familys-whole families!-having multiple ipod users, I'm guessing under the same apple ID? ? ? I don't really know, anyway, and they can sync the data from one area, or different libraries for each. HOW? And what's best for me to do, or rather, since you see how little I understand of this entire process, which method do you think I can actually complete without messing something or everything up?:)
Any help here would be great. I sincerely apologize if this is a repeat and I just don't get the other questions or answers. I'd just really like to figure this out so that my 6 other Ipods from past years with complete music libraries and forever unseen photos -once they had a camera-yeah, it goes back that far . . . It'd be nice to actually have all that back, or at least accessible without fear that it'll all disappear. What would happen if I connnected an Ipod nano that I think has another apple ID to my MAC? Would Itunes like fizz out and banish my touch or something? Yeah, I need help. I can use em. . .does not mean you have to be smarter than the device apparently. how do I connect my new (purchased last week) macbook air to my samsung smart tv? I purchased the adapter at the apple store and connected to the TV via HDMI cable. The TV says "no signal. I do not see TV as an option in the display tab of system preferences. what else do I need to do?
First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

My iphone 4 doesn´t connect through Wi-Fi, Apple replaced my phone for a new one, but the new one has the same problem. I have an ipod third generation and it doesn´t have this problem. Having compared both working at the same time, the iphone alsways lags behind or doesn´t even connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. Does any one know what to do?? Thanks
Have you ever checked to see if there is an update for your router? If yes, then power off router. Then on iPhone go into settings and do a reset network settings. Power router back on, and try connecting phone to router.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).
On the basis of the specifications you have given for your set up, mirroring should work. -

I have connected my new Onkyo TXNR626 to new Apple TV. I am not using video. AppTV connected to receiver via optical digital audio cable. Onkyo remote controls AppleTV on my iMac. Wireless set up and connected. No audio coming from receiver. Speakers do work. I know it sounds weird to have this system with no video but that will come later when we can do some reconfiguring. Just want to hear my iTunes on the stereo
Even tho you only want sound, you are still going to have to connect the receiver to the atv via HDMI or whatever connection works for your particular atv. Optical only wont allow the receiver to communicate

I have just connected my new apple TV and in the main menu see only two icons: computers and settings. How do I access the rest of the icons (internet, movies etc...) We do not live in the US. The unit has full WiFi access with no problems, I can access ITunes on my laptop via home sharing no problem.
Glad that this solved your problem but if you searh past threads there are a LOT of people with identical problems.
Reading through the threads my take is
There seems to be something awry with wifi chipset. Typical symptoms are initially being able to connect to connect to a Wifi network then the connection is dropped. Then you see just the 'computers' and 'settings' icons on screen
Power off, reset and factory restore doesnt seem to solve it
Occasionally its nearby antenna cables etc causing interference
One report with convincing evidence it was the HDMI cable, swapping to anotehr cable fixed the problem
Plugging in ethernet works, this is purely a wifi issue
Sometimes plugging in ethernet temporararily wakes up the wifi
Many people seem to have exchanged their units only for the same thing to happen to the new unit a few weeks later. Just wondering if its a fomponent fail or heat issue. -
Trying to connect my new Apple TV to the wireless network. When I try to use the remote the Apple Tv doesn't respond ( doesn't go to the next screen). Could this be caused by a weak wireless signal?
It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks -
TV Screen says "No signal" when I try to use apple TV. Was working. ie Little Apple symbol would appear on TV screen, but now get "No signal" Internet connection working (light on apple TV)...tried new HDMI cable but still "No signal" HELP please
Same exact problem with my Apple TV. Worked like a charm the first two times we used it. Haven't used it in about a month, now no Apple logo when I turn it on, or the logo appears momentarily and distorted, and then an error message from my Samsung HD TV: Mode Not Supported.
