Connecting a new ipod to my computer- Getting error message
Hope someone can help me with this one...I am trying to download music from my computer to my new ipod (have another one too) and am getting the following error message:
"The IPOD "SHABNAMS" can not be used because it requires itunes Version 7.0 or later. Go to itunes.com to download the latest version of itunes or install itunes from the cd that came with your ipod."
I have version 7.0 downloaded already and was even able to sync the ipod with my laptop, but I keep getting the message above with my desktop computer.
Any ideas onw hat to do?
Thanks!1. Is there anything I need to do before I connect this new iPod to my iBook and do an update?
No. Simply plug it in.
2. Will my iTunes library freakout if it sees a new iPod connected?
No. It will ask if you want to link the iTunes Library to this new iPod. Just say Yes.
3. Will I be able to name this iPod anything I want and not create a conflict when I plug my own iPod later?[/b
Yes, no problem.
4. Would I be better off creating a new user in my PB, then connect/update the new iPod?
Not if you are only gonna connect the iPod one or two times. -
Do I have to buy a special cord to connect my new Ipod Touch with my new Ipad? I synced the new touch with my previous nano, but how do I get all my music on my ipad??

Do not connect the Devices... is not advisable nor how it is done.

The Sync Process is via iTunes...

Connecting an new ipod to a new macbook
My friend just bought a macbook a wants to connect his new ipod which he used on a windows computer until now. It appears on the desktop, he can open it but it wont show his music files. Tried to consolidate the files to the library but it doesnt happen.
Any suggestions
AlThen I suggest that your first priority before you do anything else is to try and get the songs off the iPod and into iTunes. As the iPod is showing up on the desktop one of these methods may work. There's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward.
Senuti Mac Only
iPodRip Mac Only
PodWorks Mac Only
PodView Mac Only
iPodAccess Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac & Windows
PodUtil Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac & Windows
If you can get the songs backed up, try connecting the iPod back to a Windows PC and restoring it. Restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings and with a fresh installation you may have more success getting the iPod to connect to iTunes on the Mac: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7 -
Connecting my new ipod to my old ipods itunes
i have just bought a new ipod nano, how can i connect it to my old ipods itunes making sure that all my songs wont be deleted? i recently tried to move my itunes from my PC to my laptop and all my songs disappeared!!! how can i make sure this doesnt happen again? i was not happy last time!! what did i do wrong?
If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect your new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions to register and name it. It will connect to iTunes and prompt you to automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like. You can leave it at manual update or choose to sync music - selected playlists.
By the way, I presume that your profile is wrong and that you are not really using Windows Me, neither iTunes or the Nano will work with this operating system. -
I getting error when connecting my new iPod in my car. Getting error that usb is not recognized.
Not all car systems are compatible with the iPod touch. Does the documentation/website for the car system say it is compatible with an iPod with iOS 5?

Can't connect brand new iPod touch 4th gen to iTunes, please help!
I just got a new iPod touch, 16 gig 4th generation. I'm going through the setup process. Once I get to the option to connect through a network, I hit a problem. My internet at home requires a MAC address to be "invited" into the network before I can connect, however I can't get the MAC address until I complete setup!
So I choose the "Connect to iTunes" option instead. My computer recognizes that there is an iPod connected to it, but iTunes won't pick it up. There is nothing under "Devices".
What do I do?? ):I just retried a step I missed earlier in the articles before and ran into a problem here:
#5 Verify that the apple mobile devi usb driver is installed
> for windows 7
> if the apple mobile device usb driver is not listed
> if only Apple iPod appears
> for windows 7
I went through all these steps until #8: Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog. At this point it tries to load for a bit and I get this message:
"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. (Apple Mobile Device USB Driver)
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)"
As for your reply, I did indeed already try removing and reinstalling all the Apple programs with unfortunately no effect.
When I do the sync test, I get that one or more things failed: iTunes Helper not running and No iPod found. -
My sister wants to connect her new ipod to the computer that my nano is on.

Hi everyone,
I bought a new ipod mini on saturday and have been struggling to connect it to my pc. WHen I connect my ipod mini this is what happens: 1. The apple logo appears on my ipod, 2. A sad ipod face appears on my ipod, 3. The battery logo appears but is not actually charging. During this period the ipod logo doesn't appear in itunes or in my computer.
Any help would be much appreciated,
RossRoss, I assume you ran the CD that came with it that formats the iPod for Windows use? If you did and you're still having these problems, I'd suggest your return your iPod for a replacement. The sad face means there are problems with it that cannot be fixed by the user.

We recently purchased a new ipod nano for our daughter. She has downloaded songs on my computer under my itunes account that she wishes to load onto her ipod. How do I proceed?
Hi, not sure whether this will work and you may have tried it already. Also could do with more details to help you.
If you want to use the same itunes library with more than one ipod you can choose to manually sync them in itunes. This allows you to copy only the songs you want to each ipod. To do this, click on the ipod name in itunes when you connect it and choose the "manually sync" option towards the bottom of the screen. You don't have to manually sync both of them.
The problem with purchased songs is that they have to be authorized to play on a PC. When you purchase and download with your account the song can be played in your itunes but not in another itunes unless you enter your itunes account password when attempting to play the song. You can do that for up to 5 computers. iPods don't count as computers though.
If you also use an ipod and it is synced with your itunes you will be able to play anything downloaded into your itunes that is authorized to play with in your itunes on your ipod (you probably have to have purchased it with your account though). If you connect your daughters ipod, itunes will recognise that it is not synced with itunes and ask you if you want to do that. If you say yes her ipod will be completely over written with your itunes library at this point. So if she has music on it from somewhere else you should say no.
If you select no, you can choose to manually update her ipod which will allow her to create playlists or copy over only songs she wants on her ipod.
That will be ok for anything you have converted to mp3 from a CD. For purchased songs I would think that if there is already an ipod synced with itunes she will probably not be able to play them but I don't know for certain.
As an ipod doesn't count as one of the 5 machines that you are permitted to authorize to play a purchased song you probably won't be given the opportunity to enter your password to say it's ok to play those songs on her ipod. For them to just play anyway would defeat the object of the authorization.
However, if you do not already have an ipod synced with itunes then there should be no reason why the purchased songs wont play on your daughters ipod. She could sync her ipod automatically with your itunes but if she does she will have to put up with your music as well on her ipod!
The problem with doing it that way would be that if you later purchased your own ipod yours would then not be able to play songs you bought for yourself as your daughters ipod would be the one recognised as connected to that account. (I am not completely certain that purchased songs wont play on more than one ipod, so you could try it and see anyway if you do have your own).
Perhaps a better way to proceed in future would be to create a user id/account on your pc/mac for your daughter. This will create a separate itunes library for her. I believe that it would be possible for you to purchase songs for her using your itunes store account that would then be downloaded into her itunes library and which should therefore play on her ipod when it is synced with her itunes library. To do that you would log on to the itunes store from her itunes and enter your itunes store id to authorize payment for downloaded stuff. I believe there is an option to require password authorization every time a purchase is made or to allow purchases without a password so you would be able to control expenditure with the former!!
Of course if your daughter has her own pc you could do exactly the same with her itunes on her pc i.e. pay for songs for her with your itunes store account.
Hope that helps! Let me know how it goes!

Trouble connecting my new ipod
Hello, I was extremely anxious to get my new ipod (30gb with photo and video), but I keep getting error messages from windows saying that the USB cord is not recognized by windows. Since it is not recognized, ipod updater does not recognize that there is an ipod plugged into my computer. I guess during the whole mess I didn't realize that my ipod did turn on and is stuck on a screen where you choose the language. None of the buttons/wheel components work and it appears to be frozen. Is this because it needs to charge before I can do anything with it? Any help, advice, suggestions would be much appreciated.

- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

Sync Music
Entire Music Library
Selected playlist, artist, albums, and genres
