Connecting a pavillion desktop to a Samsung LCD HDTV

I have a Pavillion a1487c with a radeon X1650 series video card. It has 512 MB and two DVI connections, (NO VGA). My television is a Samsung LN-S4051DX with 2 HDMI, Component, and a PC VGA connection. I think the Sansung Manual says I can not connect to the HDMI onthe TV.
What is the best way to connect the PC to the TV?

Since I can't afford to go out and buy several TVs to try them out is there a list somewhere that can confirm what large screen LCDs (40-50-60") do work with the Mac Pro?

and a DVI-D (M) to DVD-D (M) cable to the TV store and try various sets. If they won't let you try them, go to another store.
Find a DVI or HDMI port on the TV that supports 1080p and connect it to the MacBook.
In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, turn off Mirroring. Set the resolution of the external display to 1920 x 1080 non-interlaced. Make sure there is no overscan (the pointer should not go off the edges of the screen). In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, drag the picture of the menu bar (aim carefully, so you get just the menu bar, not the whole display) to the picture of the external display. Make sure the entire menu bar and dock show on the TV.
If a TV works well on the MacBook's DVI port, it will work with a Mac Pro.

You might profit from a visit to a Minneapolis Apple store. With a brand new Mac, I think they will be most helpful - not just with transferring files, but with other advice as well. And I strongly recommend you invest in a back up drive. The Apple folk can help with that as well.

Using Samsung LCD HDTV as a monitor

My TV tells me 'format not supported' when I plug in my 14 ibook g4 using the VGA connection. The TV is an '06 Samsung 32" LCD HDTV flat screen. Anyone have any advice?

Just about every PC or Mac has different video capabilities so the answer would be yes in almost every situation.

Sharp 32" LCD HDTV or should we go with Samsung LCD HDTV?

Hi-
I'd like some opinions please.
We are in the market for a 32" flat screen tv - our first- and we cannot decide between the Samsung 32" 1080p Flat Panel LCD HDTV or the Sharp-AQUOS 32" 1080p Flat Panel LCD HDTV?
Consumer Reports has not yet rated the Sharp per my brother but he said Samsung ranked #1.
Any thoughts out there?

THAT I find surprising, especially considered that 5-6 years ago Sharp commanded something like 60-70% of the OEM LCD panel market. That is, they were the original manufacturer of the screens used in products branded by a LOT of other people - they didn't sell very much under their own name. I am positive that not too long ago they were the #1 or #2 manufacturer of LCD panels (not fully assembled units, but the source of panels to other manufacturers) in the world.
Similarly, I'd be extremely shocked for Sharp to be using another manufacturer's "B" screens when Sharp manufactures their own panels.
Also, Korean companies like Samsung have historically had a worse quality track record than Japanese companies like Sharp, although recently (the past 5-10 years), the Korean companies have made SIGNIFICANT improvements in quality control.

Connecting my Macboook late (2008) to samsung LCD TV

When you connect the MacBook using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. But check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
With the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

Having trouble using a Samsung LCD HDTV with my new mac mini...help?!

I have a brand new mac mini running snow leopard. I am trying to use a samsung HDTV (1080i). I've got the display connected and it is working but the font on the windows is not very crisp at all...it is actually hard to read. I've adjusted the resolution in my settings to all the different options. When I use the 720p option the font gets a little better but the windows are HUGE, when I use 1080i the windows shrink to the correct size but the font gets worse. Anyone have any ideas?

Be sure to designate the HDMI input on the Samsung TV as a 'computer' source. This seems to help how it presents the image on the TV. The other thing to adjust is the font smoothing settings, via System Preferences > Appearance.

Connecting powerbook g4 to samsung lcd le32 r7

does anyone know how to connect a powerbook g4 to a samsung lcd le32 r7. At the moment im using a dvi to vga adapter. The mac can see the tv but the tv cannot see the mac. i have tried different modes on the tv and different screen resolutions but none seem to work. The adapter works fine with a normal crt monitor is it worth buying a dvi to vga cable or does anyone know how to get it to work via dvi hdmi?

I would use a DVI to HDMI cable, and you'll have to use a separate audio cable also. A number of people on Amazon have recommended http://www.monoprice.com/products/department.asp?c_id=109 as a good cable source. If you look in your Samsung user guide, I think you'll find that S-video doesn't support as high a resolution as HDMI.

Samsung LCD TV... Need a good Digital Antenna?

I have a 46" Samsung LCD HDTV (Model #LN46C670). We just purchased an RCA Multi-Directional Amplified Digital Flat Antenna to try and pick up our local channels over the air. I followed the installation instructions to the letter and made sure the settings on the TV were correct but we were still unable to pick up any channels. Anyone else had any luck with digital antennas? What are some of the brands/models you have successfully used with this TV or one like it? Thanks in advance for your help!

There is no difference between a digital antenna and an oldschool analog one whatsoever. It's all marketing BS. The ONLY change to antenna requirements with the digital transition was that antennas no longer need to cover the old 700 MHz TV band - but the performance gains obtainable for redesigning an antenna to not cover those bands any more is so negligible that no one has done it to my knowledge.
http://www.antennaweb.org/ - You can put your address in here and determine what size class of antenna you need. Also, don't bother with RCA antennas, they're crud. Similarly, nearly all antennas with built-in preamps are crud. I haven't seen a single one that published noise figure specifications for their preamp, which says they have something to hide. In most cases they don't even publish specs for the gain of the antenna itself.
Note that the above site can sometimes be inaccurate if you have oddities in your local terrain. Also, if your antenna is indoors, the construction (materials, etc) of your home are important as is whether the antenna is on the side of the house facing the TV stations.

MBP 17" and Toshiba LCD HDTV HookUp HELP NOW PLEASE

I have tried to connect my MBP 17" to my Toshiba LCD HDTV Model # 42HL67 with a male to male VGA Cable as Toshiba will not let you go through HDMI so please don't send me that way and all I get on the Toshiba is nothing in the menu it has a PC where the HDMI and Ant. connections are and the PC is grayed out even though I have it connected using my Adaptor that came with my Macbook Pro 17" the adaptor is the only way I can connect the VGA cable to my MBP why can't I get the picture on the LCD when I'm using the F7 key to mirror is there something else I need to do on my MBP please go into detail as I know my Mac's this is the 1st time connecting any Mac to a TV?

Okay called Apple  and we had a talk and it wasn't
the cable and it wasn't the Macbook Pro 17"
it was the Input Labeling on Toshiba needed to be adjusting
all you have to do is Select it and change it from the
Grayed to the = sign then the PC shows in Input
So now my MBP 17" is on my Toshiba 42" LCD HDTV
and one other note you can use the HDMI adapter that Apple
sells so if you have the Model 42HL67 you can set a PC
up using the HDMI connection your not limited to the VGA...!

Your mac has a mini display port so you'll need to adapt that to HDMI on your TV. I have a mini display port to DVI that I bought from the Apple Store, then a DVI to HDMI adapter. Be aware that this will only carry the video signal, you'll need seperate audio cables to carry the audio signal. You can buy adapters for cheap but I've read of some people having problems with no name adapters working with their Macs, so I spend a few more $$ and shop at the apple store.

I tried connecting my Macbook to my Samsung LCD TV (through a DVI to HDMI cable) but I only got a black screen and "No signal". The macbook detects the Samsung and even displays "SAMSUNG" as a detected display.
I checked the TV manual and there I found "Don't connect a PC or laptop computer to the HDMI/DVI connectors (it will result in a black screen)"
Does anybody know why? Any solution?
Will this happen with a MacMini too? I had the intention to connect it to my TV and use it as a media center

Sorry to tell you that DVI does not support sound. You either have to use a HDMI cable (with the appropriate adapter) or tap your audio output port with a 'Y' type cable configuration for sound.

I assume you mean rca... what is happening is you're outputting digital sound via your hdmi. Phono or anything analog will not work if you're playing using hdml, because it plays both sound and sends video. what you should do is plug the hdmi cord from your mDP directly into the hd tv, then run whatever sound output the tv has to what i assume is a reciever for sound. Let the tv decode the audio to then output to your "phono" or "rga".

Connecting my new sony str hd800 to my Samsung LCD.

I want to make sure that HDMI out from the receiver to HDMI in on the TV is the way to hook up my receiver (Sony str dh800) to my Samsung LCD TV (think it is a 52" lcd 650) I don't remember now but when I tried it (looked at it but didn't connect it) last night I didn't think it looked correct. Connecting my old iMac G4 to my Samsung LCD TV

I have an iMac G4. The monitor went out years ago and I have been using an external monitor via the display port and adapter. The resolution on the iMac is set to the highest available on the display preferences. The monitor has always worked fine; however, I thought I would connect the iMac to my Samsung LCD TV (it's a few years old - 5 Series 1080). When I connect it to my TV via the "PC" connection option and select "PC" as the source, I see the splash screen (gray), but when the OS boots my TV says "Mode not supported." Anyone have any sage advise for me . . . I would love to utilize my old iMac for renting movies from iTunes.

TVs have very specific resolutions, and your iMac predates widescreens in anything but movie theaters. So long story short, since your iMac can only mirror your built-in (well, attached in the case of the G4 models) you basically have a choice. Either the monitor runs at a resolution the TV can support, which is probably going to be 720x480, you get a special converter box, or you just come to the conclusion most do, and decide it's really just not worth the effort.
If you had one of the newer iMacs where it's either a native 16:9 resolution or you could at least set an independent resolution, this would be much easier. As it is, you're pretty much screwed, sorry.
