Connecting a Samsung 5500 32" Smart TV to Macbook Pro using a Belkin HDMI to MiniDisplay Port.

I have a new Samsung 5500 32" Smart TV, and I'm trying to connect it to my Macbook Pro using a Belkin HDMI to MiniDisplay Port. The computer will not recognize the TV as a display (the arrangement tab will not show up) and the TV will not show the computer as a source. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry correction. That is a Mini DP port to HDMI that I am trying but I get no indication Mac is seeing TV. Please help.....

    Yes.
You can have one HDMI (or DVI monitor via HDMI to DVI adopter) on the HDMI port
Another monitor via one Thunderbolt port and suitable adopter if not a displayport/mini displayport monitor
And use the other Thunderbolt port for Ethernet via a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adopter.

  • Can I connect a Samsung HD 1920x1080 monitor to my MacBook Pro?

I am looking to buy an external 22" monitor to my MacBook Pro.  Essentially all the monitors today are LED Full HD 1920x1080.  But, I do not see that high a resolution in the menu on my MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,2 Intel Core i7 running 10.7 for now).  The highest resolution shown on the pull down monitor is 1440x900.  (Maybe because that is the resolution of the built-in display?)
    Will it work?
    Thanks in advance.

Your MBP will support external resolutions of 2560 x 1600:

    Hi alangium,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

Until the MacBook Air was released and supported in 10.5, the Mac did not consider USB to be a valid Networking Protocol. So set the Mac with USB solutions aside.
To connect computer-to-computer, you typically need to be using an Ethernet crossover cable. Assigning the same address to two Ethernet devices is never the solution -- it gives a Network Conflict, just as you said.
If your Windows box has some mechanism for Sharing its WiFi connection over Ethernet, you would have to follow its rules. Whether that means Manually assigning an Ethernet Address in the same range or the PC will provide the Address, I do not know.
Best success may be running an Ethernet cable to your Wired/Wireless Base Station, or using a "gaming adapter" (Ethernet-to-Wireless no drivers required) connected to the Mac's Ethernet port to give it WiFi access. What is your Base Station {Cable, DSL, FIOS, Other} ? Ethernet cables can be up to 100 meters (an American Football Field). Often the Base Station can be moved closer for more convenience.

  • Will A 27 Inch Samsung LED Monitor work on my Macbook pro?

I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro and I am not sure what ports it has. I see 2 ports apart from the USB (2 ports), Power and LAN. I am planning to buy a 27 inch Samsung LED monitor for the laptop. Here are the Macbook specs:
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 Ghz
    Memory - 8 GB
    Graphic - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
    VRAM - 256 MB
I have read that even if I buy a monitor with speakers, I won't be able to get sound from them. What are my options if I buy a monitor with or without speakers? Will I need to connect to speakers using USB? The monitor has an HDMI port... in that case what cable will I need to connect the monitor to my MBP?
Thanx in advance for all your help.

Well you are in luck (I think) because the 2009 models actually output sound via HDMI with minidisplay port.**
you'll need to get this Mini DP
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
and an hdmi cord, and then just plug and play!

** to see if your model is compatible with outputting audio from minidisplay port.
in the comments from MM in Orlando, it says:
The best solution, instead of trying to figure out the date your mac was born and the cut-off, etc...
    1. Click on the Apple Icon in the top left corner of the screen.
    2. Click "About this Mac."
    3. Click "More Info."
    4. Click on "Audio (Built In)." *** If you see "HDMI Output or HDMI/DisplayPort Output
    - Then you are GOLDEN!!!! If not, you are like me and extremely frustrated
if you're out of luck like me, you can also try to get a miniToslink to Toslink cord, that is if your new samsung led supports it. I run mine into a 5.1 reciever so it doesn't matter if my monitor has one or not.

  • How do i know if my samsung tv is compatible with my macbook pro?

I have an LCD samsung TV, the model is LE40R86BDX
when i connect my macbook pro by mini displayport HDMI adapter on my samsung tv i can't see the monitor of my macbook pro, and tell me : no signal!
    help me!!!!

I had a *nightmare* with this! Buying cheap USB adapters to use my phone as a satnav.
I'd highly recormend this product that I picked up from my local Apple store:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H0695ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mw
Great stretch, reaches all over my windscreen, actually charges the phone PLUS a nice surprice was that it's stackable. You can plug this in and the top clips open and you can put the cigrette lighter in to it to keep things super tidy.

  • How to connect Macbook Pro using thunderbolt to older TV

Hi everyone. I'm trying to view streaming video from my MacBook Pro using the thunderbolt port to an older TV that doesn't appear to have an HDMI port (probably not an HD TV). I've tried using the VGA and S-Video (TV has both ports) using adapters, and tried F8 but nothing works. I am trying not to buy a Roku or similar right now, and have a variety of cables and adapters. Ideas anyone?
I know that VGA and S-Video won't carry audio, assume I can just connect an audio cable to the earphone port right?
    Thanks in advance! Kate

"Note that you'll have to change the input/source to the input you used from the MBP." Can you elaborate a bit?
Let's say you have 2, 3 or 4 different things hooked up to your TV (Tivo, DVD player, X-Box). The TV needs to know which one you want to watch, so you have to select the proper input (the place where the Tivo etc. is hooked up to). This is called the input or source, and needs to be selected in the TV's menu. Make sense?

There is a possibility that the stick requires more power than the MBP delivers.  Try it on a powered hub.
