Connecting a WAP4410N to a E3000

Is there a FAQ on how to set up the WAP4410N as range extender to E3000 (or similar router)? Can I configure it from my pc that is hardwired to the E3000 or must I hardwire the pc to the WAP4410N first to configure it?

Dear Brian,
Thank you for reaching Small Business Support Community.
Have you tried to enter the MAC address of the remote access point directly? I would also suggest you to try a different wireless security mode than WPA2 and make sure you are running the latest firmware release versions on both routers;

    Hello MRR,
I am not quite sure your question (Q1). Why do you need to connect two AP together without cable? Usually we can provide end-users with ESS solution which can provide users roaming from one area to another if you have two or more APs. Anyway on the backend of AP generally connect to wire-network to give user scalability of network access.  It may also solve your Q2.
Repeater is only needed if your provided area is too far away from wire-network or out of reachable of wire-network and signal is too weak at that area.

  • E3000 + WD My Book Studio II 2 TB - (Windows) connection issue, need help

    Hello all,
Sorry for the long post :-)
I just purchased a new E3000 and a Western Digital My Book Studio II 2TB external USB hard drive to use as an USB NAS devixe using RAID 1. I connected the My Book to my notebook, and formatted it (NTFS) and set it up for RAID 1 per the installation instructions. I connected it to the E3000, set up users with admin r/w permissions, set up a shared folder called "server", allowing the use of the full partition (931 GB). Went into Windows 7 on the notebook, set up share permissions, logged into the Router, and mapped the "server" folder to Z:\, and I was up and running in about 20 minutes. I was really pleased with the ease of setup. Everything seemed to work fine, started moving files from my Windows 7 notebook to the My Book the suddenly.........nothing! After moving about 5 GB worth of files to the My Book, it just "disapperared". I can no longer see it, or connect to it. I can see the router on my network, but I see no shared folders. If I go into the router setup, and click on storage, I get an error message that says that the "USB device that I have connected is not supported". If I remove the My Book from the router and connect to the notebook, all of the files seem to be there, and I can access them, move, delete....etc. But when I connect it back to the E3000........nothing. Anybody have any ideas? It seems to me that this is a problem with the E3000, not the My Book. I have hit the reset button yet, but I did power everything down, and then back up with the same results. Is anyone else having issues with the My Book connected to the E3000 in a windows only PC environment. I just got the E3000, and do not know if I should RMA it if there is a hardware issue, or if there is an easier fix that I am not aware of.

Has anyone resolved this issue? I have version 1.0.4 firmware that I installed prior to setup. This is crazy. I bought this mostly to hang my hard drive as NAS on my network to stream media to an iPad or media player for my TV. The storage seems to be reliably reached by my network PCs but the Media Player seems to not only regularly dissapear by crashing, doesn't appear to scan the entire share partition. I get intermittent results, especially with folders containing large jpg jpeg photo files. In reality, most of the shared folders seem to easily find proper folders for Root Music, sometimes for Root Video, and almost never for Root Photos... any explanation as to why this media server crashes, and any info why it does not seem to work for jpg photo directories would be most helpful. Imam using a Samsung Story 1TB USB drive. Even if it sleeps, when using shared storage from my PC it does not appear to have problems automatically waking up. But for the Media Player, even aver a fresh scan and enable of the server, it still doesn't publish the directories for just photos, even ifni create their own share. HELP PLEASE io so want this to work. Thanks. Guy Gschlact

  • Optimal configuration for Cisco E3000 Router

    Hi All,
Following are the details of my current home network setup, I would like to hear more recommendations and drawbacks of this setup.
ISP has provided with a Cisco  DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway which has 4 Ethernet ports and a wireless networking but only 2.4 GHz.. This router is connected to the cable CPE box to internet. I have enabled the Firewall features of this router and disabled the Wireless network. This has also the DHCP server running.
The Second router is a Cisco E3000 which supports 2.4 GHz / GHz wireless networking. Connection to gateway is made via the 1st Ethernet port of gateway and then to the Internet port of E3000 router. I have connected my wireless devices to E3000 with GHz wifi lan. This router also has the firewall activated and DHCP server running as well.
Both routers have WEP2 Personal / AES security configured. Currently these two devices are on two different IP ranges ..etc gateway is 192.168.0.1 and e3000 is 192.168.1.1.
The E3000 is primarily configured for my online video for TV (Panasonic Vireacast). Please let me know if this is the best configuration or any other possible options.
    Thanks,
    RG

This configuration is called LAN to WAN configuration and this is the best configuration considering that you want to behave both the router as a router.
Because the other confiuration would be LAN to LAN then you can only use 1 router as a router and 2nd router as a switch.
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=529c188bc0ee4f7da79ffc22f2be33ec_4579.xml&pid=80&r...
The first configuration in the article is is LAN to LAN, scroll down the window for LAN to WAN configuration.

  • No internet after installing E3000

I'm trying to replace an old wrt54g with and e3000 linksys but after configuring all the IP info from the old router into the new one I can get a LAN established but can't access WAN.
This is a T1 with static IP and I've even tried configuring a Win 7 netbook with the same static IP, gateway, DNS and can't get through to the internet. Yes I plugged my netbook straight into a T1 but only briefly.
Is it possible that the old Adtran Network Telephone 8 port IAD that we're getting our T1 connection from is not "compatable" these newer devices. I've tried every possible configuration modification in the e3000 configuration. I've called the phone company and they aren't much help.
I know this usually has to do with DNS but I'm using the same DNS from the old WRT54G that is still working fine when we plug back into it.
No other device will connect to the internet trough the T1 except the existing WRT54G router we need to replace.
    Thanks!

If your modem is working with WRT54G router then I think it should work with the E3000 router also.
If you have the static IP address from IP address then I think you can connect the computer directly to the modem. Assign the same static IP address on your computer's Local area connection. Your computer should be able to access the Internet when connected directly to the modem.
Connect the WRT54G router modem and make sure that you can access the Internet through WRT54G router. Open the setup page of the router and check the Internet connection type. Go to the Status tab and check the Internet IP address. Note down all the numbers. Note down the MAC address also.
Now connect the modem to the E3000 router. Connect the computer to the router. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router. Open the setup page of the router and enter the static IP address and DNS numbers. Go to the status tab and make sure that you have the correct numbers on the status page also.
Now try to access the Internet through the new router.
If not able to access the Internet then open the setup page of the router again. Go to MAC address clone sub tab. Enable the MAC address clone and enter then MAC address that you have already noted down off of the status page of old router. Power cycle the router and see if that works.

  • Computers can't see each other on E3000

I am using a E3000 behind an ATT Uverse router. Every computer can connect to the internet. E3000 is used as DHCP and ATT Uverse is DNS. With this setup, computers can ping each other's IP address but can't use computer names. When names are resolved, ATT Uverse doesn't know IP address assigned by E3000 router so host is unreachable.
This is an issue since I can no longer share or backup files between computers in my home.
I have tried to use another router as a DHCP and DNS but then every computer uses the new router as the default internet gateway instead of the E3000 to the ATT Uverse router. It seems the heart of the matter is that E3000 doesn't have DNS capabilities and can't use a simple router for both the DNS and DHCP functions while retaining default internet gateway function.
    ANy suggestions?

I did all that. I can ping all computers as long as I use their IP address. It's definitely a name resolution problem.
My solution is that I disabled DHCP on the E3000 and made it a bridge on the Uverse network. Now, Uverse gives out the IP addresses via DHCP, tracks the name/IP relationship and resolves DNS for the Intranet. DNS for the Internet is solved by the network via the Uverse router. Now, I can ping IP addresses or names and get good responses.
As far as I know, each computer cannot track the Name/IP relationship for other computers on the same private network so I don't understand your comment 'handled by the operating system.'

  • LAN-LAN connections

I have a dual router setup with comcast internet modem connected to E4200 (doing DHCP) this is connected (Wired) to an E3000 (setup as access point with cable from lan port to lanport) per the linksys instructions.  The IP seg is 10.0.1.x
with the E4200 having router address 10.0.1.1 and the E3000 as 10.0.1.199 with its DHCP disabled and NAT disabled.
I have a MAC upstairs (connected via ethernet) to the E3000 and it is connected with an IP address of 10.0.1.10 so the E4200 DHCP server assigned it and got me on to the internet.  The problem is after a period of time the Mac loses this internet connection and when I go to check its IP address it has been changed to something in the 169.254.x.x    I assume this means it is losing its DHCP lease and can't renew it.   In order to get back on the internet I have to reboot both the E4200 (first) then turn the E3000 on after the E4200 comes up and stabilizes.
Any suggestions for how to fix this ??
    Thanks in advance
    RLK

It seems that MAC is not getting IP address from E4200 router.
Make sure that E4200 is connected to the Ethernet port on E3000 and not Internet.
Just disable DHCP server on E3000 . NO need to disable NAT under Advanced routing section.
If you are still facing the same issue then I think you can try to upgrade the firmware on Linksys router.
Download the latest firmware of E3000 form Linksys website.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Open the setup page and upgrade the firmware.
After upgrading the firmware, reset the router and reconfigure it.
    Networking is easy

  • Attach WAP4410N as WGB to Cisco 5760 WLC with LWAP 3702

I have 5760 WLC with 3702 wireless infrastructure. Can i connect a WAP4410N AP as WGB to be attached to my current wifi network so i can provide connectivity to some wired devices? Any tips on doing so? And any limitation can be imposed for using this WAP instead of any other AP that are supported by WLC5760? If the wired clients are passive, configuring passive-client on WLC will work normally?

Thanks Eric for the reply, however, this AP is not expected to be controlled by WLC as you mentioned since it is not lightweight and not supported by this WLC for compatibility. But in this scenario, i'm talking about operating it in WGB mode to be attached to the unified wireless infrastructure. In this scenario, it is just attached as a client that pass the traffic of its clients to the other side.
I have noticed the below statement in this guide page (539)
    http://hcsdemo.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3650/software/release/37e/consolidated_guide/b_37e_consolidated_3650_cg.pdf
When non-Cisco WGBs are used, the switch has no information about the IP address of the clients on the wired segment behind the WGB. Without this information, the switch drops the following types of messages:
    • ARP REQ from the distribution system for the WGB client.
    • ARP RPLY from the WGB client.
    • DHCP REQ from the WGB client.
    • DHCP RPLY for the WGB client.
Accordingly, if the switch will drop all this traffic, then no traffic will be passed from the WGB clients to the network ! what I’m missing here?!!!

  • Advice needed for WAP4410n to authenticate using active directory ?

    Hello,
We have a couple of Cisco WAP4410n newly purchased for our organisation.
1)We already have a windows 2003 active directory with domain and users.
2)We have installed a machine with ubunto linux. It has freeradius configured
in it.we have also installed the certificate server in this machine.
3)we have given the linux machine's ip to the freeradius settings in  wap4410n.
4)Our logic is that when a wireless users tries to connect to wap4410n the linux
free radius server will communicate with the windows active directory and grant
       access to the wireless user.
However when we try to connect a wireless user we are getting certificate related
    errors.
Can someone advice us on the settings (PEAP and certificate issues) with respect to freeradius and wap4410n
so that the active directory users can be authenticated.
    Thanks & regards.....

    Hi Sabeesh,
if you get a certificate warning, then you should check what it is complaining about.
-If you go for PEAP, you're supposed to install a certificate on the radius server and to have the clients to trust it.
-Usually people configure the windows peap client to NOT validate the server certificate, which bypass this problem. However a certificate still has to be installed on the Radius server but it can be invalid.
    Hope this helps

  • E3000 and IPAD : No INTERNET

    Hi,
I have recently purchase a LINKSYS E3000 and IPAD (Wifi only). The E3000 looks to work good, It works with PC (Vista) Imac, notebook (G-wireless) and also with NAS server and also Samsung TV.
The E3000 is connected with Internet with Cable. All devices have fixed IP address and use two DNS address to get to internet.
    No problem there.
But using the IPAD I CAN get connection to other devices, like NAS server, but when I want to go to INTERNET, I get the message NO INTERNET CONNECTION.
I tried several thing, rebooting E3000 and IPAD. Clearing network settings IPAD and entering again. No result.
I tried several wireless setting from the E3000, but without any result, I have NO MAC-address restriction or IP restrictions.
All other device will connect to internet, but the IPAD doesn't.
When connecting the IPAD to the E3000 and looking with the Webinterface to status of the router is discovered something VERY STRANGE:
The statespage (on the right) gives you normally the ip address and DNS of cable internet, but on the IPAD it was EMPTY.
When opening this pages on PC or Imac, it is filled with information. On the IPAD only this page is not completely filled.
    HELP?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What is the Internet IP address on the status page of the router?
You can also access the NAS server that means it is connected to the Local network.
As you have mentioned that when you open the setup page of the router on IPAD, it does not give you any value for Internet Ip address. It is very strange.
All your devices are set to fixed IP addresses.
Do you have any IP address setup on IPAD?
Try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on the router. Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and upgrade it on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 10 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.

  • E3000 to PS3 problems

I recently purchased an E3000. I am trying to transfer files to my PS3 wirelessly. I have tried using three different media servers (built-in Twonky, Windows Media, PS3 Media Server) all with the exact same result. At some point during the transfer the PS3 gives me a 80030928 error. Before the E3000 I had a Belkin router that tranfered without a problem and I can transfer wired without a problem. This leads me to believe that it is a settings issue. What settings should I try on the E3000?

I'm having the same problem, but it is not covered in the link you provided.
I can connect my PS3 to the E3000 and the PS3 sees my media server and the content I have loaded on the external USB hard drive that is attached to the E3000. The problem is once I make a selection, such as an mp3 song, the PS3 just sits there waiting like it can't download the file. I did not have this problem with my previous router, WRT600N.
I tested the connection by trying to download a PS3 update file, and it failed during the download.
One other thing, the PS3 sees my E3000 connection as 100% strength!

  • E3000 / DishNetwork Issue

I need some assistance.  I am trying to connect my DishNetwork DVR up via a wireless link to the E3000.
My home network consists of a Linux Server acting as a router/gateway for a DSL link, with several pc's (XP/MAC/Linux) connected on a local 10/100 lan.
The existing lan addressing scheme uses static IP's and the DVR requires a DHCP link.
I thought the E3000 would solve that issue by using it's DHCP server capability to host the DVR wirelessly and integrate it into the rest of the lan.
Not so easy though...I set up the DHCP and reserved an IP address, which the DVR pick's up just fine, but  although I can ping the gateway and DVR in both directions, I am unable to access the internet.
I've tried to set up a static route, but I think I'm not doing it correctly.
Here is the addressing scheme (subset)
    Linux Gateway :  192.168.10.4
    Vista: 192.168.10.5
    WinXP: 192.168.10.14
    MAC: 192.168.10.7
    Linux Fileserver: 192.168.10.100
    E3000: 192.168.10.2
    E3000 DHCP Server address Range 192.168.10.10 - 192.168.10.15
E3000 DHCP reserved address (for DVR) 192.168.10.121
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.
    Paul

    Thank you for the suggestion.
I want to make sure that I executed your instructions correctly:
This is what I now have:
    Linux Server/Gateway :   192.168.10.4
    Connected to 10/100 hub
E3000 Internet Connector Connected to Uplink Port of hub
    E3000 Internet Setup - Static IP : 192.168.10.10
    Mask : 255 255 255 0
    Default Gateway: 192 168 10 4
    DNS1 : some address
    DNS2: Some other address
    E3000 Network Setup - Router Address: 192.168.15.1
       mask:255 255 255 0
    DHCP Server enabled
    Address: 192 168 15 100

    IP Address range 192 168 15 100 to 104
    dhcp reservation: dishnet dvr 192 168 15 121
    Saved / rebooted
Is that correct or did I misunderstand?
DISHDVR re-connected to network and it has acquired IP Address as specified above, as well as DNS addresses
But still not able to see internet.
Before I was trying to use LAN/LAN networking keeping everything in same IP address scope - is there a way to do that?
    Thanks.
