Connecting AE + Mac Mini via Ethernet
I've bought a Time Capsule 1TB to replace my AE. Partly because of the back up feature, partly because of the dual band feature.
I've configured TC radiomode with "Only 802.11n (5 Ghz) - 802.11 b/g/n". Meanly so my MacBook Pro and Ipad can use the 5 ghz network and my Iphone just the b/g/n.
So far so good. Then I configured the "old" AE and a Extreme to join the network (the 5ghz that is) so the strongest network is the 5 Ghz. (I don't really care that much about the 2,4 ghz just for my Iphone). Still no problems.
Now, I was thinking about plugging my Mac Mini in to the AE using a Ethernet connection so that my mac mini can use the 5 Ghz N network. Mainly because my mac mini is my media center and I would like to use the strongest network for Air Tunes.
My problem is that I can't connect to the 5 ghz network via the AE using a ethernet cable. Once I switch off Airport on the mac mini, airtunes and internet is not working anymore. When Airport is switched on, the internet and airtunes is working, but not great because it's on the "weak" 2,4 Ghz network.
So, is there a way to use the AE, which is connected to the Macmini using ethernet, as a sort of bridge to connect to the 5 Ghz network?
Thank you guys so much!
anyone??

Unable to remotely connect to Mac Mini via MBP
I can see the MM in Finder on the MBP, but when clicking on it, no response what so ever. Used to give me the option to "Share Screen" etc and I could control the MM using the MBP's keyboard. I can also see the MBP in the MM's Finder when using the TV as the MM's monitor, but no response when clicking on it either. This worked fine until yesterday. I haven't changed any settings in System Preferences/Sharing and have restarted both devices. I can still control the MM remotely using Mobile Mouse. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
Not sure if this is a question that should be posted in the Networking section or not, as I don't seem to have any issues with my network.Reset the Time Capsule and it's working again. Odd, never had this problem before.

Recently, my brother passed away, and I am trying to access the drive on his 2008 Mac Mini via ethernet. The computer shows up fine, but when I try to connect, the connection fails. I tried logging in as a guest, as I do not have his password, with the same result. Any suggestions? There may be documents important to settling his estate here, so we really need to find a way to access the drive. I was only sent the computer, (no monitor), so I have no other way to access the drive.
What kind of computer do you have, a Mac or a PC? Starting or re-starting the MacMini while holding down the "T" key will put the MacMini into Target Disk mode. If you have a Mac with a Firewire/Thunderbolt port and connect it to the MacMini, that is in Target Disk mode, via the Firewire port, the MacMini will show up as an external drive.

Mini can't connect to the internet via ethernet bridge
I installed a Netgear WGPS606 (It's a print server and wireless ethernet bridge) on my home wireless network. Here's the Configuration: DSL connected through a Linksys BEFSR41 DSL/Cable router with 4 port switch. My Graphite Airport base station connects to one of the ports on the switch, and it serves the wireless computers on the network. The WGPS606 is connected wirelessly to the Airport Base station. I have a MacMini connected to one of the ethernet ports on the WGPS606. The Mini successfully gets its IP address from the DHCP server on the Airport. (Interestingly, the Airport's DHCP server is configured to provide addresses for airport clients, not ethernet clients, but it does provide an IP address for the Mini -- I assume because the mini is connected through the wireless bridge.) I can see and connect to the Mini via the local network, but the Mac Mini cannot connect to the internet.
Any clues?
MarkNever mind. I gave up on the Netgear print server and bought a second AirPort Express and set up a WDS network. Everything works like a charm. That's the last time I waste nearly a day of my time to save $30 bucks on a piece of hardware.

When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?
Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
Go to your Finder
Choose the Go Menu
Choose Computer
Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
Choose your "Library" Folder
Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
Empty the Trash
Restart from the Apple Menu
When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

How can I share external devices connected to my Mac mini via USB on a wired network.
Own a Mac mini with Mountain Lion. Purchased the server app. The Mac mini is connected to a wired network with Mac’s and Windows machines. I have an external hard drive and 2 printers connected to the MAC mini via USB. I would like to share these devices with other computers on the wired network. Although I have attached similar devices with an airport extreme in the past, I am unable to use a wireless router in this case. Any suggestions on making this work with my current setup?
You don't really even need server app to do this. Simply go to System Preferences | Sharing and turn on both File & Printer sharing. Then, for example, the printer (not relevant what connection it has but obviously USB is fine) will be available to everyone on the wired network.
That's all there is to it - unless I missed/misunderstood something re: your setup which seems very straightforward. -

Someone please help me connect my two devices together so that I don't have to purchase yet another item. Is there an app or something that would allow me to connect my Mac Mini to my iPad 2 wirelessly. I can't get passed the password screen because the wireless Keyboard will no longer connect to my Mac ...helllllppp .... I use it for both my iPad and my Mac mini....does that matter?
If your iPad is close enough to your keyboard and Mini
and if the iPad is merely in standby and not off, the
connection to the iPad is still active. Therefore, the
keyboard will not connect to the Mini.
If the iPad is far enough away to break the Bluetooth
connection or you unpair from the iPad or you turn the
iPad off, then the keyboard should connect just fine with the Mini.
Most Bluetooth HID's (Human Interface Device) can only service
one host at a time. This is by design. -
Lenovo monitor connected to Mac mini
I have a Lenovo LI2223s monitor connected to Mac mini - and works fine when from full start up. But when has been in 'sleep' mode overnight, does not display any longer upon wake-up. Is there something I can do to correct this problem? (waking the monitor does bring up a very very dim light there somewhere - but general appearance of monitor is blank - mini is no longer sleeping)

PowerMac G4 will not connect to the internet via ethernet
I am normally a very mac savy person, but I cannot get this to work...
I have an Airport Express connected to speakers, a USB printer and an ethernet hub, which is connected to a cable modem and also a PowerMac G4 via ethernet. There is also a wireless iMac thrown into the mix. All hardware has up-to-date software.
The wireless iMac gets online, prints and plays music wirelessly.
The wired PowerMac G4 will not connect to the internet via ethernet, it is killing me.
I have gone through all the settings and cannot figure this one out. I really appreciate all advice.
Thanks,

Connecting to Time Capsule via Ethernet
Hi,
I'm working on a Tiger OS and I cannot connect to my time capsule. I followed instructions in the manual, but I simply do not see Time Capsule on my desktop, and there is very little info in the manual.
I am working off of ethernet, not airport, and would prefer to used ethernet for the moment. I have it connected via LAN port to my macbook pro. There's only one ethernet port on my computer. Does anyone have any advice? I know about about Macs, but dont have much experience with network specs.
I simply need to archive data, but I cannot see Time Capsule on my desktop. Time Capsule is connected just fine to my modem, but now how do I connect to my computer? I've tried to unplug ethernet from my computer, and into the LAN port on my capsule, but to no avail.
I am absolutely clueless as to how I can use this machine at this point??
Thanks much.Jean,
You probably don't have the Network Preferences set correctly.
Connecting The Time Capsule Via Ethernet
Connect one end of a Cat-5 Ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports of the TC (<•••>).
Connect the other end to your Macs ethernet port.
Open Network Preferences.
At the top change "Location:" to "Ethernet Connection".
In the list on the left "Ethernet" should be at the top of the list. (If not use the Action Menu (gear button) at the bottom to "Set Service Order".)
Click "Apply" in the lower right.
Give it a moment to acquire an IP address from the TC.
You should now be connected.
Now begin your initial backup.
Now that you are reconnected to the TC, you should still have internet access during the backup.
Let us know if this was helpful. Next time start a new thread, you're more likely to get helpful responses that way.

Issue with 2wire dsl router when connecting power pc g4 via ethernet
Issue with 2wire dsl router when connecting power pc g4 via ethernet. The 2wire will keep resetting. When I connect my macbook pro via ethernet to the 2wire all is ok, but as soon as i connect the power pc. . . .reset. I have emailed 2wire support. They recommended using a different patch cable. Tried that.. .. anyone else having this issue???? Any help would be appreciated. . .
Search the discussions for issues with 2wire dsl routers. This has come up before in a discussion I've been involved with, but probably not to do with the MDD. I do remember it being a design issue with the router, something that was done to it before dispatch.
Let us know if you can't find it and we'll have a look.
If you afford it, bin the 2wire and go buy something decent like a Netgear. -
I want to Connect my Mac Mini as a Slave to a Mac pro Server while at the same time using the Mac mini's thunderbolt ports peripherals ( ie monitor, Sound Card, Hard drives) Creating a poor man's new mac Pro. Can this be Done?
Well, I really would love the new unreleased mac pro however , I'm not sure of the expected cost , Everyone speculates from $3,000 to $8,000, in which I may have to wait a while to purchase.
To the point .... I want fully functional thunderbolt ports to be on the current mac pro's .... wonder if anyone had workarounds yet?... or could I chain the the current mac pro to a mac mini to make that happen?
