Connecting AE to Dlink Router DI-624

Greetings all ! just purchased the AE and already having difficulty :P
I want to transfer music from my PC to my living room stereo.
Tried connecting the AE to my network with no sucess. Here's my config and if someone can help me make this thing work I'll be extatic!
1 pc connected to Dlink DI-624 Wireless Router
1 Ibook connected to a Dlink Wireless Access Point
1 AE.
I have no wirless network set up as there is no need to since both devices communicate out of the box. Airport Admin Utillity and Airport Setup Assistance both can't find my Router. Help!

Step one: set up your D-Link wireless router to create a wireless network. At minimum, you should configure it with a wireless network name (SSID) - follow the instructions in your D-Link router's user manual to do this (it will require running a web browser from one of the computers currently cabled to this router).
Then follow the advice posted in this discussion by David Lovell, to configure your Airport Express so that it "joins" the wireless network created by your D-Link wireless router:

  • Time caspule only works when connected through my dLink router first

I have a dlink router that was always my network router in my home. I hooked up a time capusle from the lan output of the dlink into the internet input port on the time capsule and it works fine. The time capsule and dlink are both wifi hostpots. When I connect my time capsule from my modem direct without the dlink the LED will not turn green. WHy is this and how do I remedy this.
    Thanks
    Colin

The easiest way is to "hard reset" the Time Capsule and reconfigure it using AirPort Utility.
Make sure it is connected to the modem first. Remember to power down the modem before changing its connections.
To "hard reset" the TC: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.
This will not affect your backups. You might need to re-select the TC's backup disk in Time Machine's Preferences, but your existing backups will not be lost.

  • Can't Connect to Internet using AirPort Extreme Card and DLink Router

I have tried just about everything, but I can't seem to connect my MAC OS X 10.3.9 to the internet. I am using the Airport Extreme Card and no networks show up. I am trying to connect to my DLink router. I was told by DLink that it is compatible with AirPort Extreme cards, but the guys at Best Buy were unable to connect to their wireless routers, other than their Mac Router. Please let me know if you have a solution! Thanks

    What Mac do you have?
Do you have iMac G5 or a Power Mac G5?
Did you install the AirPort Extreme card yourself?

  • DLink router wont connect with MacBook Pro

Hello Everyone... I need a little bit of help on this one!!
My mom just bought a brand new MacBook Pro (yay, she finally switched!) , but for some reason I can not get her MBP to connect to their wireless. The Airport card will no even find the network to connect to. There is not a password set and asking my parents they are not sure if there was a cd or anything to set it up. They have a DLink router that is several years old (DI-624 is the model #) and I have been scratching my brain to figure this out and can not get it!! There are several posts that give suggestions, but none seem relevant to my problem.
Any help would be awesome and thank you sooo much for your help!!

assuming your mum's previous computer was/still is able to connect to the DLink, it probably means that SSID Broadcast in the wifi settings (of the DLInk) has been turned off. which means nothing can 'see' the DLink that hasn't connected to it previously.
you'll need to temporarily plug the MBP into the DLink via a Cat5 Ethernet cable, log into the DLink's config website (probably http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1), and check the wifi settings. no install CD required
u said no 'password' had been set. do you mean no wifi encryption had been configured? you'd be well advised to if there's anyone living within 100m of your Mum . while you're at it, see what encryption settings have been set up there / are available. if it's WEP (or no encryption at all as you suggest?), you'd be well advised to change it to WPA. WEP is now hopelessly broken (easily crackable within a minute with the right tools). just be aware that any change here will affect any other wireless device that's also using the DLink.
if WPA is not offered, goto the DLink website and check for new firmware...

  • Airport refuses to connect to dlink router

When I try to connect to dlink (WBR-1310) network, Airport gives me a message "There was an error joining the AirPort network dlink" after I enter my password. I created my password with the help of a dlink technician and they have no clue why it would not work. If I do not password protect my network, it works, but I do not want to go unprotected. Any suggestion? Thanks much.

danycom, Welcome to the discussion area!
When you say "Airport refuses to connect to dlink router", do you mean that you are trying to get an AirPort Express (AX) to connect wirelessly to the router? Or do you mean that you are trying to get your Mac to connect wirelessly to the router?

I'm having this problem now with my 2 weeks old iPhone 6+. in the beginning everything going great and managed to connect every wifi around me. Then suddenly 1 week ago, All the wifi from my office, home, hotel and coffee house saying either incorrect password or can't join the wifi. But when i switch on my hotspot from my iPhone 5 it can be connect. i also try with my friend iPhone hotspot. So is it because of hardware problem or software problem. And i just restore my iPhone6+ and still can't connect to wifi and manage to join hotspot (also wifi right?) regret as all my downloaded stuff vanish and now can't download back using wifi.....

  • Can't connect to DLink router anymore

I'm connected to the internet with a DSL modem and a DLink router, model DI-524.I had a wonky security system(Net Barrier) on my computer. While online, a Net Barrier window popped up that said I was being subjected to a Ping attack, with 2 options, Ignore or Stop Stream. I clicked Stop Stream and immediately lost my connection. Apparently my computer now thinks my router's IP address was the source of the attacks and will no longer allow me to connect with it. I called DLink and we reset the router and tried typing in the IP address in a browser, but the computer still wouldn't connect to it(I've also restarted the computer and reset the modem). I can connect to the Internet with the DSL modem directly just fine. How can I reset my computer to allow the router connection? Thanks--Terry

    Hi
Try uninstalling Net Barrier as it seems to have caused the problem. One of its nanny files may be causing the block.

  • How can I get my AE to work in 802.11n mode with my dlink router?

    Hi all,
I have a dlink 655 wireless n router that I use for my network and a recent AE with 802.11n capability that I use to connect iTunes to my home stereo.
I have a mix of computers at home and only my imac has 802.11n capability. I work alone in the day so to speed things up, I change the wireless setting on my dlink router to 802.11n only mode. Normally, it is in a mixed mode of 802.11g/n for the other non n computers on the network.
My imac connects fine when in 802.11n only mode but the AE looses connection. As it is 802.11n capable, I was wondering why this happens?
I tried checking Airport Utility for a 802.11n only mode or something similar, but didn't find anything. Will the AE only work in 802.11n mode when on the 5ghz frequency? if so, that would explain why it doesn't connect with the dlink 2.4ghz router in n mode.
    Any ideas?? Thanks!

Hi. Thanks for the reply. It turns out that the router was not going into n mode because of the security I set on it. I finally figured this out and the AE did connect in n mode after all.
Well at least it's working now but I feel a little bad for posting when it was my fault!!
    Cheers!

  • Airport Express problems with new MAC MINI and DLINK router SOLVED

Hi just thought I would post this as it may well help others experiencing similar frustrations with new core duo mac mini and wireless connection or quality problems across the network / internet etc
I have a 3 week old, new mac mini core duo 1.8ghz 2gig ram, 120gb disk - First Mac, connecting to my exisiting wireless network via DLINK ADSL Router 2MB Broadband also one windows laptop and pc also wireless on the network and two airport express potins to stream itunes to
    Problem was briefly
Mac worked fine, but the network connection just far too slow, laptop and pc, 1800+ kbps downstream mac mini 90 - 150kbps (http://www.adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp)
also if i ping the router directly from terminal (ping -c 20 192.168.1.1) average response 12+ ms with 20% packet loss, yet laptop and pc avg 2ms no losses
Spent 2 evenings on frustrating calls of more than 1 hour each (due to being cut off , then ring back and closed etc etc) and carrying out a the helpdesk troubleshooting (I am an IT consultant I think I am above this level), eventually an archive and install of the os as well
last night I call for the third time, insisting I dont wish to carry out any further troubleshooting, and want it replaced and resolved or my money back
I receive a call back from product specialist (not sure if thats mac mini specialist or airport) but we resolved the issue (his knowledge far superior to the help desk do this do this attitude)
between us we carried out the folowing and resolved the problem and I am now very happy
mac now downstreaming also in excess of 1800kbps (as expected for 2mb broadband)and no packet loss
This problem was resolved by switching off the turbo option hidden away in the routers settings, under wireless configuration
Supposed to improve performance, but its rubbish and will make hardly any difference under mac os to the speed but will certainly affect your mac mini performance(you may have a similar setting switched on in your routers and mac os dont like it)
We stumbled across this by first disconnecting one of the airport express devices from my dlink network, and using it on its own default apple wireless settings, effectively making it a standalone wireless network, and not via the dlink router
we then carried out the same ping with the ip address of this device (from airport admin utility default 10.0.1.1) and the results were fantastic 2ms avg no package loss
this established it was something with the router, and how we then interrogated the routers settings and found the turbo on option within wireless configuration
you may not be able to replicate this if you dont have an additional network you could join (such as airport express), but probably worth checking your own router settings for something similar
Hope that may be of assistance to others, sorry that its a bit long winded and garbled, but I'm just so excited to finally get my new mac working as i would expect it to
Also perhaps insist on speaking to a product specialist immediately that the helpdesk are unable to help you

Hello macfar14. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
For just streaming iTunes and/or for sharing a USB printer, the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) just needs to be configured as a wireless client ... which you already attempted to do.
Just to be sure nothing was missed, here are the basic steps to do this:
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <existing wireless network's Network Name or SSID>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • WRT54G as AP causing dlink router to restart

I am trying to use a WRT54Gv5 as just and access point.  To do this I have it connected to my main router over the lan connection of the WRT54G (to the lan on the dlink of coarse) and have DHCP turned off on the WRT54G, so that the dlink router handles that.  It all seems to be working properly, with wireless devices being correctly assigned ips by the main router and successfully accessing the internet.  However I have two problems.  The first one is whenever the WRT54G is running the dlink router restarts every few minutes.  I have checked and this does not happen when the WRT54G is disconnected or powered down.  For the time being I have it powered down so no wireless network currently.  This is the main problem I would like fixed.  The second problem is that I cannot access wireless devices from the LAN when the wireless is running.

If you are facing inetmitten problem with the linksys router, first thing which you can do is Upgrade the firmware of your router, and this will solve your problem. Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop.Once you downloaded the firmware of your router, Disconnect your D-Link router from Linksys router, and let your computer be connected to Linksys router.
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable.
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on
"Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Coonection of ipad to dlink router

I have bought an ipad air. I get internet connection through institute network at my home through a DSL-2640T DLinik router. However, ipad is unable to connect to this router. First of all, on tapping SETTINGS and WIFI DLink does not always show up.
When it does show up, it does not connect to it after giving the password. The Dell laptop from which bI am sending this mail is able to connect to the same router using the same password.

I have tried this but it odes not work. I have also tried switching off and then restarting ipad: General>Reset> Reset Network Settings. But it did not work either.

  • Timecapsule and Dlink router together?

Can I buy the timecapsule, add it to my existing wireless network (disabling the router functions and just using time capsule to back up to wirelessly through my dlink router?)?
In other words, i want to plug the timecapsule into my 16 port gigabit switch, and then use a macbook air with timemachine to back up to the hard drive in the timecapsule.
I assume this is the only way to do this or can I just buy a external USB drive, plug it into my NAS and then access it via time machine and save a bunch of money?
    Thanks

Both Time Capsule and the Airport Extreme base station have what's known as bridge mode, which disables the internet sharing and means it'll play relatively nice with your existing router. Page 36 of the linked guide should hopefully explain it.
I don't think you can access a NAS drive and use it for Time Machine, though you certainly can with an Airport Base Station or Time Capsule connected to a USB disk. Obviously you can also just use an external drive for Time Machine, though wireless is kinda nice, providing you do the first backup via Ethernet.

  • Wirelessly Bridge TC to dlink router

Is there a way to wirelessly bridge my new TC to a dlink router? I want my tc located in a different room and easiest way other than running LAN cable is to bridge it.

So I tried to set the tc in extended mode and tried to connect to my main wireless router, put the correct password in and everything and it wont extend my main wireless router. Any ideas? Any thing I need to set up differently?

  • DHCP, OSX and Dlink Router doesn't get anywhere

I'm a Mac newbie. I have a cable modem, a Dlink 713p wireless router. I'm running OSX 10.3 on an old iMac.
ACT 1: I have a few PC's running wireless to this router without a problem but, when I connect my cat5 cable to the iMac via built-in ethernet port, I get no connection to the router with DHCP (or manual setup for that matter.) The corresponding activity light for the connection on the router blink at a constant 1 sec on and 1 sec off rate.
Here's what Dlink say on their tech support page about hooking up a Mac to this router:
How do I configure my Mac to work with the D-Link gateways like the DI-704, DI-707, DI-713 and DI-713P?
Use the following settings in the TCP/IP control panel.
Step 1 Go to the Apple Menu>Control Panels>TCP/IP.
Step 2 From the Ethernet drop-down menu at the top of the control panel select Built-in if you have a built-in network card or Other if you have installed a network card in your computer.
    Step 3
    Configure : Using DHCP Server
    IP address : 192.168.0.xxx
    Router address : 192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
    * If you are not getting an IP address from the residential gateway, you can configure the gateway manually.
    Connect Via :Ethernet-built-in
    Configure : Manually
    * You will now be in a screen that will allow you to enter in the settings manually.
    IP address: 192.168.0.12
    Router address: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Name server : 192.168.0.1.
I followed this and I still got nothing.
ACT 2: I have a Linksys USB100m, a USB ethernet adapter. I've read that some people have had this working without any problems with OSX and running it without specific drivers. Yeah, that's some people and it doesn't include me.
The system info show that the Linksys adapter is found but there is no way to configure it for the network (choices are built-in ethernet or built-in modem.) When I connect this to the router I get a constant blinking activity light.
    What am I doing wrong???
    imac indigo, 400, 640mb ram, 30gb Mac OS X (10.3)

I'm not sure if this applies to your early iMac but there is a known issue with the one I have, originally a 266mHz tray loader. Its ethernet port works but fails to autonegotiate properly with some routers. IE it never gets past deciding to to run at 10 or 100 speed. I tore my hair out for a while with this issue since I knew my iMac worked just fine on a crossover cable with an older Mac that only ran at 10 speed. That was actually the key. The solution was to put a cheap used 10 speed only switch between the iMac and the D-link router. That way the iMac did not hang at trying to negotiate speed since there was only one option. Now it all work just fine.
PS. does anyone know if you can get a simple switch or hub that can be set to only do 100 speed and not offer 10 as an option? That would allow my iMac to talk faster on our local network.
