Connecting AirPort Extreme

I just received my new AirPort Extreme and would like to know how to get it to work with my Verizon Fios router, replacing the WiFi function of the router with the AE. I have the Airport Utility installed on my pathetic Windows 8 PC and on my iPad Air. I got to the point of setting up the network using my iPad but cannot connect to the internet. I had the WAN O port on the AE connected to the WAN port on the VZ router. Should it have been connected to one of the multiple LAN ports on the VZ router? I understand that I have to set the AE to bridge mode but cannot get to that menu. I am not going to do anything more until I get some knowledgeable help so I don't screw anything up. I also know that I have to turn of the wifi on the VZ router. Any help with getting this thing up an running would be appreciated.

We can help on the setup of the AirPort Extreme, but Verizon uses a number of different modem/routers and the setup and configuration of each model will differ, so you will need to enlist the help of Verizon support to get the wireless function turned off on the Verizon router.
Please start over on the AirPort Extreme and disconnect any Ethernet cables that might be attached to the device, then perform a Hard Reset to clear out the old settings and get the product back to a known default condition.
To do that, power up the AirPort Extreme for a few minutes, then hold in the reset button on the back of the devices for 8-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart to slow, blinking amber light status.
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the several LAN <--> ports on the Verizon router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme
On the iPad home screen......tap Settings....then tap WiFi
Tap on AirPort Extreme under the heading of Setup a New AirPort Base Station
AirPort Utility will open and take a minute to analyze the setup, then suggest that the AirPort Extreme be configured to create a wireless network. You will see picture of the AirPort Extreme at this time....not an AirPort Express in the image posted below.
We will post a screenshot of the window that will appear at this time, but Apple has been having difficulty with screenshot attachments on their community support forums of late, so you may or may not see an image appear below:
For Network Name.......Enter a short, simple name of 8-12 characters or so that you want to call your AirPort Extreme wireless network
For Base Station.......Enter a short simple name that you want to call the AirPort Extreme
For Password.......Enter a password that will be used for both the wireless network and base station
For Verify.......Type in the password again
Tap Next
The utility will set up everything for you and correctly assign the correct Bridge Mode settings to allow the AirPort Extreme to work with the Verizon router.
When you see the message of Setup Complete, tap Done.  That's it.
You should now be able to select the wireless network that you named and enter the password to connect.

How do I connect airport extreme to seagate hard drive using windows?

First the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) cannot share out an external HDD attached to its USB port unless it is formatted in either HFS+ or FAT16/32. It will not work if the HDD is formatted in either NTFS or ExFAT.
If the HDD is formatted properly, when you access the AEBS with the AirPort Utility, does the HDD show up properly on the Disks tab of the utility?
If it does, then you would access the HDD as any other network share, using the following format: //servername/sharename. In the case of the AirPort Disk (a HDD attached to the USB port of either an Extreme or Time Capsule), the "servername" would be the Extreme's Base Station Name, and the "sharename" would be the volumename of the HDD.

  • Connect AirPort Extreme Base Station to air card

How do you connect AirPort Extreme Base Station to Verizon Air Card?

Sorry, but the Air Card cannot be used with the USB port on the AirPort Extreme because that port will only work with a hard drive and/or a printer.
Suggest that you check with Verizon to see if they have an adapter or wireless router for the Air Card that will provide an Ethernet signal to the AirPort Extreme.

  • Cable needed to connect airport extreme?

How do I connect airport extreme to older speakers which are connected to older receiver amp? Do I need USB to radio jack? Have Itunes on IMAC , os 10.4.11. I know I need to update os sy to 10.5. I have new Iphone. I want to use remote app to send music to speakers.

There is not an audio port on the AirPort Extreme, so it cannot be used to stream audio per your question.
An AirPort Express will do the job.

  • Wifi connection AirPort Extreme with IP-camera

I can't establish wifi connection Airport Extreme with IP-camera. At the same time cable connection is fine, but wifi not.
    Please, give me an advise.

You need to create a wireless network on the AirPort Extreme, and then you probably will want to assign a compatible static LAN IP address to the camera so that you can port-forward from the router to the camera.

  • Connect Airport Extreme to existing router without ethernet cable

I am looking to connect my Airport Extreme to an existing router without the use of the ethernet cable.  The existing router is on the ground floor whilst I would like to install the Airport Extreme in the first floor to improve WiFi range on the 1st floor.  I am able to connect Airport Extreme to the router with the ethernet cable (in which case both the devices have to be close to one another on the ground floor) but unable to get Airport Extreme set up without the ethernet cable.  Is it possible to connect Airport Extreme to the existing router on a non-wired basis (i.e. without the ethernet cable) and if yes, how would be I able to do it.  Any help would be appreciated.

The AirPort Extreme can connect wirelessly.....IF.....your existing router is also another Apple router.
Is that the case here?  If yes, what model number is your existing Apple router?
If no, you will need to continue to connect the AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection.

  • How do I connect Airport Extreme and Time Capsule to my new iMac so that AE is used for network and TC only used for Time Machine backup?

I didn't realize that Time Capsule will only support the print function of a wireless multifunction printer.  So I want to use Extreme for my network to have full use of my printer and use TC as the Time machine backup only.  How to I make the connections?

Thanks for your response and this is getting complicated but I just purchased a new iMac as well as the Airport TC.  I've had the Airport Extreme for a year or so.  The Airport Extreme worked perfectly with my old iMac wirelessly and I had all functions of my printer with no problems.  I was expecting the same with the TC.  But the instruction that came with TC say to connect the printer to the TC via USB...which I did.  And the print function worked perfectly but nothing else.  In researching I discovered that when wired that way the TC only supports the print function...not scan or fax or anything else.  I tried going wireless since my AE worked perfectly via wireless but I got no printer functions at all that way.  But I'm wondering also if I tried that during a time I was having other issues...I had to delete and re-add my printer which solved some other problems.  I may try that again...and see if I can get all print functions with just the TC connected
As far as connecting both your AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule on your network, we're not clear on exactly how you want to do this.  Will the AirPort Extreme connect to your modem using an Ethernet cable and the Time Capsule connect to the AirPort Extreme using an Ethernet cable?.......or......do you want the Time Capsule to connect to the network using wireless?
Well... first of all I would like not to have to use the AE at all...I would prefer using just my TC for network, all print functions and Time Machine backup if that's possible. My printer will not accept Ethernet connections (Canon MX512).
After failing at getting this to work, I decided I would try to use my AE for net and print functions and just use my TC for Time Machine backup.  I tried several different connection configurations with no success until finally I connected cable modem to my AE via Ethernet and went wireless with the AE and printer. but connected the AE to the TC via Ethernet and amazingly everything worked like a charm (for a while) and I was patting myself on the back for being so smart.  But now I find that the connection only lasts for a short time.  If I leave it for a while the TC goes invisible...or at least I see a message saying the Ethernet is unplugged...but it is not... and I lose internet connection even though I have a green light on my AE. So now I'm at a loss. I don't know why I keep losing network signal and why my system thinks the Ethernet is unplugged.
So... after all this...I figured I wasn't so smart after all and I must have things wired incorrectly.
So... it sounds like you are saying I should go back and try again to get my new TC to work as I want it to via wireless instead of connecting via USB...is that correct?  Could you tell me exactly how I should wire my equipment from cable modem to AE and/or TC to achieve net capability, full functions of my printer and Time Machine backup...
    Thanks...

  • How do I connect Airport Extreme to XBox 360 live

I just bought an Airport Extreme to use as my wireless router.  Everything connected beautifully EXCEPT my all in one HP Printer and my XBOX 360.  If I manually enter the settings, I can connect but only for a minute or 2.  Once my son starts using xbox LIVE, the connection gets dropped.  All instructions I can find must be for older utilities.  I eventually plugged in my old G Router into an open LAN port on the back of the Airport Extreme and got my printer working when connecting to the old network ID but still can't get XBOX 360 to connect and stay connected.  Any help is appreciated.

Ok, thanks for the update. Do you have the Xbox connected to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet (wire) or by wireless? If wireless, temporarily connect it by Ethernet to verify that you can get connectivity via this method.
If you were using wireless, which of the following is the wireless adapter that you are using?
    802.11g or
    802.11n?

  • How can I connect airport extremes using a wired-switch connection and have roaming capability?

My goal is to have 2 airport extremes and 1 timecapule connected via an ethernet switch so that I can enable roaming. I have no problems connecting them wirelessly where I create the wireless network on a primary airport wireless then add the others "extending" the network. However, if I attempt to do the same thing with a wired connection everything stops working (no connections from any airport). Here's the topology I'm trying to achieve. I believe my problem relates to the switch and the fact that I am serving up DHCP from a separate server. Is there a way I can achieve this (or similar) type of configuration? Thanks in advance.
BTW, I have read the various documents on the roaming network topology  but none seem to be a match to this.

To answer your question, yes, if I _only_ have the main "create wireless network" airport connected/wired to the switch, everything works correctly.
    OK, got that.
Also, if I have each of the 3 airports/timecapsule "create wireless network" using the same ssid name and passwd/protocol, everything works correctly (but of course, no roaming under this scenario
Sorry, you have me confused on this one. When the AirPorts are all configured to "create a wireless network", use the same SSID, security and password, and all AirPorts are in Bridge Mode........that is the exact definition of a "roaming" network.
Not sure what you mean when you say "no roaming" in this configuration.
Also, if I have the main "create wireless network" configured and have the 2 other airports "extend the network" and _not_ have them connected via the ethernet cable, everything works correctly (wireless airport interconnection)
    That is correct.
However, if I plug the 2 other "extend the network" airports into the switch via ethernet, all connectivity shuts down.
This is not a correct setup. The "extend" setting on the AirPort assumes that they will connect using wireless.  If you then try to connect an Ethernet cable to an AirPort that is expecting a wireless connection, that will result in a big feedback loop and effectively crash the network.

  • Connecting Airport Extreme N to Time Capsule via ethernet to extend wireles

Hi, I currently have 2 Airport Extreme N and a Time capsule and would like to connect all three together. I am planning to use the time Capsule as the router and then use the other airport extreme to extend the wireless network. I am planning to have ethernet connection between the three devices ie Airport extreme N (A) is connected to time capsule via ethernet and airport extreme N (B) is connected to time capsule via another ethernet.
I have tried the Extend Wireless network option to connect them, but that seems to generate so much traffic between the airport extreme N and the time capsule that the network is not usable. I have also tried using WDS but that didn't seem to work.
The three wireless networks have some areas of overlap but the signal is weak which is why i prefer to link them up with ethernet.
What is the best wall to configure them? should I set them up so that they're each creating a wireless network but with the same name? Or is there a better solution? Thanks!

It seems to me the easiest way is to have the Airport Extreme connect to internet using Ethernet, using DHCP and the Connection sharing in off (bridge mode) and then create a new wireless network with the same name... Is that correct? I have previously ran the apple wizard and it did something weird with the network and then both the time capsule and the airport extreme are serving out IP address and both of them have the same IP address 10.0.1.1. which then messes up everything...
    Any ideas? thanks!

  • Connecting airport extreme, netgear dsl modem, windows 7, and Macbook pro

I'm having a problem connecting my airport extreme to my netgear modem, windows 7 pc and my Macbook Pro.  Until a few days ago, I had a Westell wireless dsl modem and everything worked fine.  Now, the only way I can connect to the internet is through my desktop pc and the hardwired modem.

If your goal is to extend/boost the range of your Netgear router with either or both of the AirPorts, this will not work wirelessly ... at least, not completely by wireless. That is because, WDS is not standard and each manufacturer has had creative license to implement it as they see fit for their products.
Instead, you have at least two other choices to use the Netgear (as the main Internet router) with the AirPorts:
Connect one AirPort directly to the Netgear by Ethernet, and then, configure both AirPorts for an extended wireless network. In this configuration, you would be running two separate wireless networks; one created by the Netgear, and the second the extended network created by the AirPorts.
Connect both AirPorts directly to the Netgear by Ethernet, and then, configure all of the routers for a roaming network. In this configuration, there would be a "single" wireless network where wireless network clients can literally roam from one router to another and still be on the "same" wireless network.

  • Trying to connect airport extreme to comcast provided ubee modem. Light on airport green, but no internet access.

Attempting to connect ubee d3.0 comcast modem to airport extreme base station.
Light on airport will go green, but I cannot connect to the internet.
I'm sure it has something to do with DHCP/NAT - as the airport extreme is getting an IP address, but then assiging a 10.x.x.x IP to my computer
but attempts at putting it in bridge mode just causes the light to go yellow and give warning of "No DNS Server" and "No internet connection"
I am able to connect to the internet when I connected directly to the modem.
    I'm running OS 10.8.5
previously had DSL modem and connected after a few easy tweaks of the NAT settings before. am unsure what the issue is on this on... have used up my rather limited tech knowledge.
    any thoughts?
    Thank you!

Attempting to connect ubee d3.0 comcast modem to airport extreme base station.
Light on airport will go green, but I cannot connect to the internet.
Ubee provides both cable modems and gateway devices. What is the model number of yours?
I'm sure it has something to do with DHCP/NAT - as the airport extreme is getting an IP address, but then assiging a 10.x.x.x IP to my computer
By default, the AirPort Extreme would performing as a router with both NAT & DHCP enabled. Also, it would act as a DHCP server for the local network and provide out Private IP addresses in the range of 10.0.1.2 - 10.1.1.200. The WAN-side IP address of the Extreme should be a Public one and provided to you by your ISP via the Ubee modem. Did you perform a "factory default" reset on the Extreme before attempting to connect it to the modem?

  • CONNECTING AIRPORT EXTREME TO NON APPLE ROUTR

    Hi
I have just upgraded my broandand from NTL cable to BT ADSL.
My emac(in the bedroom) use to be connected to my cable modem and Belkin Router however as the BT line is in the living so is the BT VOYAGER wireless router which can connect to my powerbook G4 and Windows Laptop but my emac has not got internet access. I bought a airport extreme card but the emac would not start up with it inside. So I have taken it back. My question is if I buy a airport extreme base and connect it to my emac via ethernet will it be able to capture the wireless network from my living room enableing my emac to have internet without an exteme card. Hi everyone,
Thank you to everyone who answered my question. I now hav another question. Does the Airport extreme base require a mac with a airport extreme card, or can it be connected by erthernet to a mac without the card. Secondly does the base require and additonal modem to attach to or can it plug straight into the dsl line via the filters.
For those of you who know my orginal question. I have found that if I use my telephon extenstion and plug the adsl filter thing into it it will work. However my BT voyager router 2091 (wireless cd-rom) won't install poperly I get to the second stage and it just does not advance. So I want to be able to buy a base plug the base into my emac and dsl line etc. Is that possible please reply asap.
