Connecting Airports around the house

I have an Airport Express in one room where my office is and I have my Stereo in another room. Is it possible to get another Airport or Airport Express and bounce the signal to the other room so that I can play Itunes on it. Plus, I want better reception in the living room but don't want to take the original AP Express out of my office due to my printer.

I assume your existing Airport Express is not only connected to the printer, but also to your broadband internet modem?
Yes, you can buy a second Airport Express and locate it elsewhere in your house. If you configure that Airport Express to "extend" the wireless network of the existing Airport Express (easily done using the Airport Setup Assistant) then yes - the new Airport Express could be used to stream iTunes to a sound system, and would act as a remote base station that extends the wireless range of your existing wireless network.

    Thanks!

You need to start over.. the MAC addresses are different.. if you try it will fail.. even with the same names and same IP addresses because it is not the same box.. it is much better to start over.
And even use a wholly different naming structure.. short.. 2-20 characters no spaces.. and pure alphanumerics.
It doesn't take long really to redo it.

i don't have any experience with DLNA TV's but i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. streaming content to airport express remote speakers and TV2 works great. however, i have all my gear hardwired to my time capsule (except the airport express) so i'm not sure how well streaming e.g. HD movies to TV over wifi works.
i have a Synology DiskStation 411j and am very happy with it.

My iPad has to be really really close to the router for it to have internet. How can I make it so I can go around the house with it? My iPad has been like this for a couple of months, and it has really irritated me. My friend came over and he had to download iTunes for something on the computer. He needed my iPad, he tried it and it wasn't really near the router.

I'd begin by reviewing the following:

  • Problems with signal level around the house ????

    Hi Guys,
I have had my BT Home HUb 2.0 for just about a month now and after having very little luck with my new laptop which i have replaced twice and am now on my 3rd (Samsung) all working well, i am still having problems with using my laptop with the home hub about my house.
I have strong signal downstairs obviously cause that is where home hub is situated, and it is central to the layout to the house, but if i take my laptop upstairs i have no signal again, i say again as when i first fitted home hub i had good signal upstairs of 3/4 bars. I have tried changing the channel and have found that channel 11 is the one for here.
The only thing i can put it down too is that the other day i tried to get the router set up no more than 5 feet from where it is now as i am also trying to get my old pc tower to work from it too (pc tower has no internal wireless card so have a wireless adapter) but signal again is very poor, since i tried that and also laptop has manufacterer update for a new driver to be installed which i installed which was for the wireless facility on laptop ( which since i have done a system restore ), since all of this i have struggled to get strong signall all around the house only in fromt room as hub is situated in hallway next to front room.
Please help, as i am not having very muchg luck ???
    regards
    joe-sud

    Other external interference maybe.
I had a problem last year with my car remote transmitter not working unless within a few inches of the drivers window.
Using a radio scanner, I found a signal on the same frequency that my remote uses.
After eliminating all other possabilities, including total power down of our house to eliminate ANY of our equipment, I contacted Ofcom http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/inter/intbr/ and made a formal complaint.
A few days later the investigator arrived with some really hi tech scanning gear, and within 5 mins had identified the scource was eminating from next door.
He found the culprit....next door had a Sky remote extender which had gone faulty, and was flooding the area with a constant signal.
There is no charge for this service as long as its not your own equipment, which is why I powered off the whole house to see if the problem persisted.
Maybe you could use an extention lead from next door to power your router while turning your mains off to check?

  • Have apple tv 2g and several IDevices (ipad, iphone..)and around the house i have several access point connect via UTP cable to the same router/modem, but  when i try Airplay it wont work if the devices are on dif wifi conn. regardelless its the same LAN.

Problem with Homesharing/Airplay with dif IDevices (Itunes with a PC, Iphone, Ipad, Itouch etc) using my home wifi connections that has several access point throu out the house and they all are connected via UTP cable to the same modem/router (My LAN).
When i try to use airplay or homesharing both devices have to in the same ACCESS POINT (it does not mather if its WIRED or WIRELESS, i have the same problem with both).
Any ideas?? This did not happen before i upgraded ITUNES in order to use IOS5.
    Thanks

Thanks for the advice. But i dont have any devices sync wifi. It also happens with older versions of IOS on iphone 4.2.1 and 3.1.3 and also IOS5 (no wifi sync enable).
Basiclly when i try to airplay music using itunes (pc) to my apple tv 2g (4.3.3.) they both have to be in the same access point, if the apple tv is connect via UTP cable i have to be connected to that access point wifi. Basicly dosent work with dif access points.  Also if i manage to be on the same access point (itunes using a pc and the apple tv) if i have to use Remote App to change songs i have to be in the access point to.. can not see the devices...
    Any ideas?

  • Wi-Fi around the house?

My question is about the built in Wi-Fi for the Ipad. So if I only plan on using the Ipad around my house and I already have a wireless modem do I even need a AT&T plan? Can I just set it up to get wi-fi from my modem like my macbook pro does?

If you want the option to have an internet connection via AT&T's cellular network, you need to purchase the wi-fi+3G iPad.
There is no contract. There are two options - 250MB which is good for 30 days - use it all or lose what is remaining for $14.99/mo, or unlimited for $29.99 which is good for 30 days. This is paid with a credit card, with the 30 days beginning on the purchase date. This is renewed automatically every 30 days unless you cancel before the next 30 day cycle begins.
    http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/ipad.jsp
+To provide a seamless data experience, your domestic data service will be automatically renewed every 30 days, unless you decide to cancel your service before the end of the 30 days.+
+And once you have the right data plan in place, you can fully experience iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G for superfast Web browsing and downloads, at more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot locations nationwide. AT&T Hot Spot partners include participating Barnes & Noble and Starbucks locations.+
Is there any type of combined package for someone who owns a Iphone and a Ipad?
    No.

  • Extending broadband around the house

    Hi guys.
Just moved house and setting up the Internet, I have a Home Hub 3.0 which is fine for downstairs, but doesn't give strong enough signal to reach some upstairs rooms.  The main issue being my bedroom which is (due to extensions) beyond 2, very solid, external walls of the house, which gets no signal at all.  There is only 1 working socket to plug into in the house which is in an extension, so not great positioning.
What would I need in order to put a socket in my room to plug directly in? Presumably just running a phone line into my room wouldn't be enough? Would I need modem/router in the room?  I'm a bit lost, and never really understood broadband/wireless/phonelines.
Or alternatively are there any better solutions, such as boosters, extenders etc.  I did look at the things that can extend through electric sockets, but I'm not sure I can run 2 upstairs PC's from that?
    Any help much appreciated
    Thanks
    Matt

Powerline adapters would be your best option, one pair would be sufficient.
In the bedroom you can connect the powerline adapter to a network switch, which will allow you to plug in up to four computers upstairs.
    Some suggestions
Powerline adapters, these come as a pair

  • I would like to back up my mac to a wireless hard drive, seperately on the same hard drive I'd like to store movies which i can access and play from other mac devices around the house on a wireless network. Will the time capsule do this for me?

    Wireless soulutions please?

Yes, just copy the movie to the TC.. if you mean run itunes from the TC you can do that too.. there are plenty of posts telling how.
But big BUTT.. no backup for data stored directly on the TC.. Time Machine is not going to back up the TC.. and as it only has one hard disk make sure it has a backup somewhere else.. otherwise one day you will discover your files are gone.

  • AirPort Express vs Extreme.  Is this a solution?  My wife wants to be able to access files on her hard drive for our Mac by way of a laptop from anywhere in the house.  For example, she would like access her $ software from any computer in house.

Will one of these work to use software from iMac on any laptop wirelessly around the house?  Which would be better Express or Extreme?

I've had much better luck with Express rather than the Extreme.
    She can use "Sharing"
Apple - AirPort Express - Easy Setup
    Mac 101: File sharing

  • Just bought my first i Pad and can't connect to wi fi in the house even when the password is correct. Now what??

Just bought my first iPad and can't seem to connect even in the house. Have verified the netgear password but it won't let me connect..any ideas?

What type of encryption are you using with your wireless network -WEP or WPA?
If your wireless router supports both which it should unless it is quite old and you are using WEP, try switching to WPA which is much more secure than WEP which is important if you have a Windows PC or any Windows based device connected to your network.
In addition, when was the last time you checked Netgear's website to see if there is a firmware update available for your wireless router model that you haven't installed?

  • Connect Airport Express to Buffalo AC1750 Router

I replaced an older airport extreme with a buffalo AC1750.  I never gave any thought to all of the existing functionality I was about to goof up.  I have an older printer upstairs connected to my network via USB to an airport express and another stereo also connected via a second airport express.  the expresses are both 1st gen.
No clue if this is important but I have a mac mini hooked up that has all of my itunes that I screen share with to connect over the network.  My main computer is a macbook pro.
    1. can I connect the airport EXPRESS to my buffalo router?  if so, how?
    2. I still have my older extreme.  if the expresses can't be hooked up, can this be used somehow?
    3.  If none of the above, how to do non apple people get wireless access points around the house to connect to iTunes and printers?
Please be gentle.. i'm not a networking scientist.

    1. can I connect the airport EXPRESS to my buffalo router?  if so, how?
You were probably extending the wireless network previously.. but the apple routers cannot extend wireless to another non-apple router. You can join a wireless router. You will need to open the airport utility and change the setup from extend to join and this is very tricky on v6 utility. You really need a computer running v5 so join wireless which is still a hidden option can at least be found.
So do you have v5 airport utility available?
If not you can reset the express and do it again with v6 utility but you must select the correct options.
I did a post with the method here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5719954?tstart=0
    2. I still have my older extreme.  if the expresses can't be hooked up, can this be used somehow?
This might be a better idea anyway.. although it does add complexity.. The problem being that airplay protocol can simply fail to work .. not all routers support apple type systems.
Reset the extreme to factory and start over. You want it running in bridge mode.. that is router bridge btw.
Plug into the buffalo by ethernet to WAN port of the AE. You will need to create a wireless network and the Express can still extend that network as before. You can still run into issues.
Why did you buy the buffalo?? If you wanted better and faster wireless you can swap the network around.. leave the AE as the main router with the express.. exactly as they are now.. and simply use the buffalo as Wireless Access Point.
Check if it has WAP mode.. if not I can explain how to do it manually with wan bypass.
    3.  If none of the above, how to do non apple people get wireless access points around the house to connect to iTunes and printers?
Non apple people don't use iTunes.. and generally they use wires.. you know.. permanent hassle free connections.
