Connecting an eMac to the internet

Please somebody help I can't authorize my eMac to play purchased items because i'm not connected to the internet but i have a vista notebook that has Built-in wireless internet and i'm just wondering if is is possible to connect it to the vista machine to get internet access on my emac (I don't care if this makes connecting on my notebook impossible ALL I WANT TO DO IS GET MY EMAC BACK ONLINE!) PS: MY ENTIRE LIBRARY IS ORIGINALLY FROM MY VISTA PC (Or if there is any other way to authorize my mac without internet help will be most appreciated)
Thanks in advance for any help guys/girls

How was the eMac connected to the net previously?
I had inferred from your posts that (a) the eMac has no Airport card of it's own and (b) there is no direct Ethernet connection to a modem or router where the eMac is currently located. In other words, the eMac location has changed since it was last connected to the net. Can you confirm that the only network access in the current setup is the WiFi signal being picked up by the Vista laptop?
Is the WiFi basestation / access point that feeds the laptop located nearby or is it offsite?
I do not have any flavor of Vista (interestingly, Dell still had WinXP available as an option at least as of this past summer), and networking Vista can be affected by whether it is Vista Home Basic, Home Extended, Business Basic, Business Advanced, or whatever names Microsoft is using for the confounded 6 different versions of Vista being marketed. There are unexpected changes in Vista from XP (e.g., filesharing logon requires an IP address in addition to username/password; see this link), making XP steps problematic for Vista.
You may have better luck finding a step-by-step guide at a Windows Vista support forum; check the website for the laptop's manufacturer (e.g., Dell Vista Community).
Your first step is to physically connect the eMac to the Vista laptop by running a crossover cable between the Ethernet ports on the two computers. None of the subsequent steps will work until the physical connection is in place and recognized by the Vista laptop. If the Vista laptop can auto-sense the Ethernet connection protocol as the eMac can (see Macs That Require an Ethernet Crossover cable), then a normal straight-through Ethernet cable should work. It's unknown to me if the eMac's sensing alone is sufficient to let a normal Ethernet cable work.
Both computers must be turned on for the connection to be recognized. The Vista laptop must have an active Wifi connection in addition to the wired Ethernet connection in order to see the Sharing tab to let you turn ICS on. You're looking for the Sharing tab on Control Panels > Network > Network and Sharing Center > Manage network connections > right-click on the Ethernet (not WiFi) connection. See Sharing an Internet Connection in Windows Vista.

  • How do I connect my Centro to the Internet via bluetooth over PC's Internet? Where is Centro's PPP Connection Type? How do I setup Login Script for bluetooth connection?

I am trying to set up bluetooth on the Centro to connect to the internet via my PC's internet.
    HotSync over bluetooth works successfully.
Computer specs: Toshiba P205-S6277; Bluetooth Stack v5.10.04 (currently using); Bluetooth Monitor v3.01 (to use Vista's built-in bluetooth)
I think I have narrowed my problem down to 3 things.
    (1) Finding Network Access properties (to allow connected devices to access the internet)
    (2) Finding Centro's Network Connection Type: PPP
    (3) Finding the correct Login Script to use
for (1) I think I've looked everywhere; found nothing on Network Access.
Checked control panel: only Bluetooth Local COM
Right-clicked bluetooth icon > Settings: File transfer, PAN Networking, PAN DHCP server, AV controls. Other bluetooth settings are for file transfer or object push. I don't see anything like this.
I'm stumped on (2). It seems as if palm removed this option under Centro's Advanced network settings .
Nearly all the forums that I read says to choose Connection Type: PPP.
    (3) Found 2 scripts that seemed would work. I don't know how it exactly works but it sounds workable.
    First script:
    Send: CLIENT
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait for: CLIENTSERVER
    End:
    Script 1 Connect Log:
    =======================================
    Connect Log
    S: client
    S: client
    R:
    Err: 0x121F   <<<netErrUserCancel b/c I canceled it.
    Not connected
    ========================================
I canceled it because the process would stay on "Signing In" then it automatically "Canceled" itself.
    Second script:
    Send CR:
    Delay: 1
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait For: CLIENTSERVER
    End
**UPDATE** I found on this forum (Reply # 3689) that the script is needed only if you are using Palm OS 4 or under. Centro uses Palm OS 5.49121. Can anyone support this?
Even without the script it has problems "Signing In".
I'm currently reading this site and trying out its decribed methods. I will update this thread when I get the results.
I'm using the Centro. And If anyone's been able to successfully connect to the internet on the Centro via a bluetooth connection to the PC WITHOUT 3rd party applications, please share.  If not, please share any ideas.
    Thanks!

I've been going at this for days, and have probably exhausted all the proposed solutions on the first 3 pages of various google searches. I'm getting the feeling that Vista users are pretty much SOL for the time being.
For the record, I just tried out a few of the solutions (mRouter & SoftickPPP) on XP and they work perfectly.

  • How to connect my Blackberry to the internet

I am on a giffgaff monthly plan with unlimited internet, but i cannot connect my BlackBery to the internet. Everytime i click the browser icon it just says 'connection failed' - my friend said you needed a special code or something and i have no idea where you get that.

    Hi dizzytomboy56
You will have to contact your wireless provider to ensure you have a BlackBerry data plan, which is different than a standard data plan.
    Thanks

  • I am unable to connect my ipad to the internet via wifi, when asked for my password I get message "unable toI ge join network" however my laptop is able to access the internet using similar procedures and in the same physical location.?

I am unable to connect my IPad to the internet via WiFi, when asked for a password then attempt to join I get the messag "unable to join the network" however  if I use my laptop in  the same physical locationand using similar procedures I am able to conect.?

What router are you using? make/model/version
What security type are you using? If it is WEP then symbolic (non hex) keys may be converted to hex in different ways by different operating systems. Is your laptop a Windows PC?
If you are using WEP then drop it and move to WPA2. WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi alliance since 2004 as insecure (it can be hacked in seconds).

  • I can connect my tc to the internet and back up my iMac, but it will not back up my mac book pro... ANY thoughts?

i can connect my tc to the internet and back up my iMac, but it will not back up my mac book pro... ANY thoughts?

When I go to connect my MBP, it says I have the wrong user name and/or password; however the names and password are the same on both computers.
The MBP connects smoothly to the internet, just not the TC.
    Does this help?
There is no login name required to get internet unless you are running a vpn or pppoe client.
The wireless uses a security key.. but that is fixed in the wireless setup.. so no user login should be required at any time.
It sounds to me like you have the wrong setup.
Please do a screen shot and post it of the imac setup that works.. show us the airport network with its ip address and where you are putting in the login.
Please also do a snapshot of the TC and how it is setup.
    What broadband do you have?
Is the TC a router or bridged?

  • Using iPhone to connect my MacBook to the internet.

Any ideas on how I can use my iPhone to connect my MacBook to the internet?

    Hi RonAnnArbor,
Why not just tell people the truth and let them be responsible for their own actions. You cannot seriously expect us to believe that you are this ridiculously naive. Let's suppose that you are in a geographic/physical location that does not have free, or pay WiFi. But, to get the customer up and running you need a real machine with real apps to do some work. This, opposed to just playing on the net with the iPhone. Real work, not reading emails and showing your technically challenged friend how your blog looks on the phone... Instead of that, you are looking at stuff that is technical, contains a great deal of information, or contains a great deal of formatting. Could you not see that it would be easier to work with this type information not just from a readability standpoint, but a usability standpoint on something with a larger display?
I digress. Anyway there is no way to connect your MacBook Pro to the net because there is no connection available and you are in the middle of no where, but your iPhone is in your holster and has a freakin' marvelously strong signal. So, you have this iPhone in your pocket right next to your xxxx and it is doing nothing but playing your favorite music.
Hmm, interesting "You have an Unlimited Data Plan with AT&T" why not use it to create your own WiFi hotspot with your iPhone and allow your MacBook Pro, Windows PC, whatever to share the phone's data connection so that these and other devices can connect to the net via the iPhone? So you still don't see the advantage?
That is an awesome feature and makes it so you can connect with anything, anywhere using your iPhone. Talk about a new marketing angle. Your iPhone is now your ISP. The iPhone would be acting as, well, a modem if that helps you bring the aforementioned post full circle.

  • I currently use a mifi device to connect my laptops to the internet, can I use the iphone 5c as an internet access point for them

Can the iphone 5c be used as a router to connect my laptop to the internet???

Yes, but it depends on what plan you have.
What plan name do you have as stated on your bill. If it says More Everything, the hotspot functionality is already included.

Glad to hear it is all straightened out. You are right about the upgrade cost. That is one reason why Adobe switched to monthly licensing—no more upgrade cost <g, r, & d>. Of course we do have nearly monthly product upgrades. It is almost like playing whack a mole.

  • My iPod 5th gen connects to wifi but the internet doesn't work.

So we were watching netflix on the ps4 and something happened and now my ipod will connect to the wifi but the internet doesn't work. everything else connects just fine to the internet just not my ipod. I've renew my lease, reset my settings and network, forgot my network and rejoined,  turn my ipod completely off and back on, turned my wifi off then back open. The IP address is 192.xxx.x.xx
its the ipod 5th generation 16gb.  With the latest update

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • WiFi Connection does not see the internet

I have this problem with my Inc2 and my home wifi.   I have a Linksys/Cisco E1000 router supplying my wireless and wired networking at home; it is a standard set up with a WPA Personal2 shared key authentication.    I set my Inc2 to connect with the home network, and it reports it is connecting, getting an IP address and connected messages in sequence.  If I look on the router itself, it reports the mac addres of the phone as being connected.  But any attempt by the phone to get to the world goes nowhere.  Now I do not have any problems connecting other devices:  laptops, tvs, dvd players all connect and get to the internet.  The router supplies the DNS settings, and I presume the phone is setting the router as the gateway (router IP is 192.168.1.1, surprise).  but the phone just returns site not available.  (Even for the Google page).  Other apps have reported site not available messages when they try to run with wifi at home is connected.
Now I have had success at open sites (eg. Wendy's, Panera Bread,  that sort of place) connecting and getting access to the world.  But I have not way to find out what the settings of the phone are when it 'connects' to my wifi to try to find out what the problem is.
Can anyone give me a clue how to find out what piece is broken here?  It is only my android phone that connects in this 'half-baked' way...like I said, everything else ( 3 laptops, a tv, a dvd player, an Xbox) all connect fine.
    :-Dennis

I have the same problem and I have a router  Verizon sent me. I have to turn off wifi every time I want to log on to the internet at home and on the job. that means I'm using up my data when I have free wifi

I have an upgrade question. I received a notification when I connected my computer to the internet that Lightroom 5.7.1 was available it included HDR & Panoramic photo merge. I cant find these. Where do I find them.

well that was a big waste of my time & data allowance then ...
I live in a flaky slow internet area & I keep my photo edit machine off the internet unless & want to update something. CC is no use to me & that useless update just used up a 12th of my allowance for the year ...

  • Is there anyway to connect my iPhone to the internet through my computer's WiFi?

Basically I live in an Army Barrack Block and I use an internet service in my room called Wifinity. I pay for this monthly and it allows me for up to two devices to connect to the internet. The two devices are my Macbook Pro (late 2010) and iPad (3).
If I connect my iPhone to the internet it cancels either my iPad or Mac out and I have to phone them up to change it back round.
What I was hoping to know is:
If I have my Macbook connected to the Wifi, is there anyway I can share that Wifi to my iPhone (either by Wifi, Bluetooth or USB). I have been searching a bit online and haven't had much luck. I have also been playing around with the sharing settings in System Preferences but again, no luck.
The internet service I use is only Wifi, I can't connect it via ethernet or anything else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Harry J
I've never been able to do that, even after a lot of fiddling and searching.
Razmee's suggestion is to take a an Iphone and use cellular to create a hotspot to connect another device and that will provide it access to the net.
    Cheers

  • How do i use a Bluetooth phone to connect my Mac to the internet?

Please help me connect to the internet using my Bluetooth enabled phone's GPRS feature. I know an easier way would be to use Launch2net...but at 75Euros...too expensive. It used to be easy prior to Leopard but since I've upgraded to Leopard...the feature seems to have vanished.

who is your provider, here in the UK t-mobile give you launch2net for free.
however you dont need that software.
You just need a modem script for your model of phone.
you can get modem scripts for most phone from ross barkmans' homepage
