Connecting an ibook to tv

What cables do I need and where can I get them? Thanks

My DVD burner is in my iBook...
Ah, well that wasn't clear from your post.
If that's the case, then you will need some kind of video in for your iBook (which does not have a specific "video in" port). You can do this several ways. You could attach the video out of your TV (RCA or S-Video cables, perhaps) to a DV camcorder and then plug the camcorder into your iBook with a FireWire cable. Then you could use iMovie to import your TV show, edit out the commercials and then export to iDVD to make DVDs. This would be a bit tedious but you would have all the software you already need.
If you don't have a DV camcorder, then you might consider one of the El Gato EyeTV devices. An EyeTV will, basically, turn your Mac into a TiVo. If you then get a copy of Roxio Toast you can burn your recorded TV shows to VCDs or DVDs. You can use the EyeTV software to edit out commercials from your recorded TV shows.
The EyeTV shows take up quite a bit less hard drive space than an iMovie/DV project. And the integration with Toast is pretty seamless. But, you will have to get both an EyeTV device and Toast.

  • Connect broken ibook to new macbook pro for data recovery

Greetings all. I'm a long time mac user but this is my first post on the forums. Hope you folks can help me out.
I want to transfer information from my old ibook g4 (running OS 10.5.?) to my new MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.3). The catch is the ibook's monitor is not working, but the hard drive is. Also I don't have a firewire cable to connect the 2 computes or (option 2) a cable that would allow me to connect the ibook to an external monitor. In order to get either of those cables I will have to find them online as the closest store is 2.5 hours away.
As far as I can tell the ibook's wireless is still working but I don't think sharing is turned on...
Can any of you think of a way I could make a wireless network btw the computers? I know the ibooks passwords etc...is there any way I can get in to the ibook and turn sharing on without having use of its monitor?
Any ideas would be really helpful. Mac support said there is no way...but common I've done amazing things with my Mac there must be a way!
Here's how this all came about:
Last Monday my husband was using my sacred ibook G4, which has given me 6 years of flawless service and was continuing to work perfect until this day. He picked it up to move it to the living room and accidentally dropped it. It landed, open and running, on one of it's hinges, instantly smashing it.
After taking the ibook apart and assessing the damage we decided the best option was replacement hence my brand new Macbook pro.
There is no visible damage to the ibooks lcd screen, but somewhere in the components is/are lose connections preventing the monitor from working. The frame on the side where the power cable plugs in, at the monitors hinge, broke and damaged a green wire connected to the screen.
Thanks for your consideration folks. I'd sure like to get the info off the ibook. PS my husband feels terrible about what happened but on the plus side hello new laptop!

    bug,
Apparently the transfer stopped part way through.
Hmm that doesn't make a lot of sense unless....
on the now exposed area, touches the frame the external monitor will stop working.
So you must absolutely prevent that from happening..
the external monitor will stop working.
You're probably dragging the graphics chip down when that happens or causing a logic board power spike (probably negative) that crashes that chip or worse the CPU. What can happen if that keeps on is that a tiny fuse that's about a 1/32" wide and 1/8" long can blow on the logic board. It's in the inverter driver circuit. That will require someone to perform a microsolder repair. The other thing that could happen is that the inverter driver could blow up and that would be fatal afa the internal display is concerned.
OK so I'm a little confused here:
able to confirm that when plugged into a monitor the computer still works.
.. the ibook monitor still powers up do you think it may be possible to repair the current monitor?..Computer starts up fine, monitor powers up as well but does not display any images other than blue blank screen
So the computer was working and now it's not?
I think you should stop trying to run the computer with that inverter cable damaged. If you can't affect a repair you should probably unplug the inverter cable. The bottom would have to come off as well as the lower shield.
I happen to have a 14" 1.42 GHz iBook taken apart and can send you pictures of the position of that cable's socket if you email me. (I'm attempting a PMU swap with this 1.42).
I'd like to get my info back
So with that cable disconnected you'd need to see if the iBook will go into target mode.
If not then I'd disconnect the LVDS cable and try it w/ the external monitor. Now that's going to require that the upper case come off as well as the upper shield. There are many gottchas to doing this, the worst of which is damaging the power button socket on the logic board.
Ultimately you might have to pull the hard drive and use an external case/USB adapter to recover that info.
they ran into problems during the transfer but they couldn't explain what happened
    "they" seem a bit inept!

  • Connecting my ibook to Xbox Live

Can anyone explain how i connect my ibook so my xbox can connect live. I want to plug the cross over cable i have into the ethernet port of my ibook and then go online.
essentially this should just be a shared network connection. As my ibook is connected to the net through a linksys router.
do i have to change some settings on my ibook or Xbox so it works? I should point out that my Ibook is working fine and connects perfectly wirelessly.
    Please help me!

    Wonderwhat,
Assuming that your iBook is connected to the net itself via AirPort Extreme,
Head to Apple -> System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet Sharing, and choose "Share your connection from: AirPort". In the next section, check the box next to "Built-in Ethernet". Then, click the "Start" button.

  • Lack of connectivity to iBooks?

I downloaded Maverick and with it came iBooks. When I click on the icon the iBooks Page opens and when I click on iBooks Store i get the message Cannot connect to iBooks Store. I have connectivity to iTunes and everything else on the internet with full wireless service but cannot connect to the iBooks store. Anyone else have this problem?

    Hi BAMacK,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try these steps if your computer can't connect to the iBookstore:
    Troubleshoot issues on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes and Safari to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. Follow these steps to configure your firewall.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Learn how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.
You can find these steps in the article below:

  • How do you connect 2 iBooks?

    Hello!
How do you connect 2 iBooks so that you can transfer files between them? I know that there is a way to switch both on so that one appears on the other one's desktop as external harddisc.
    Thank you in advance.
    Pavla

You can set one into target disk mode and use a FW cable I think.

  • Connecting Your IBOOK to your Car

    Hello peoples,
I'm just wondering if anyone in the 'ibook' world has ever connected their ibook with their vehicles.
What I mean by connecting, is setting up it so it is secured somehow, so it doesn't bounce around while you drive, using your car stereo speakers instead of the ibook ones, and of course a way to run the machine via a power supply.
The power supply issue is the easiest thing to remedy. The other two are the biggest challenges i'm having.
    Cheers

    Hi George,
I actually do this... as I often travel with the iBook in tow, and the amount of .mp3 files it can store is much larger than what the SD card on my Treo 650 store.
I had to strip the car down to the wiring harness to do this ! The problem in my car (perhaps like other cars) is the so called "premium sound system" - specifically the mfr put the preamp in the back of the car (no doubt due to space considerations). So what you have is the head unit in the front of the car, routing low level signal to the preamp and the preamp routing directly to the speakers *with no return of those speaker leads to the front of the car (where the head unit goes). This setup is probably typical of such "premium sound system" type vehicles, ie, you wont have direct access to the speaker leads at the front of the car. In my case, I wanted these leads because the wimpy vehicle preamp the mfr used I knew would be no match for the 600 watt amps I wanted to use. So quite alot of custom wiring done to my vehicle but - the end result is that I can now plug my Treo 650 or my iBook and play anything loaded on either of those devices in my car, and should the moment strike, loud is the word ! When plugged in, and if it rings, my Treo caller can be heard thru the car stereo, and thats pretty cool.
To balance the iBook as Im driving, I use a swatch of teak (just a piece of wood) and the "CoolPad" to keep it cool and elevated. I make a hard habit of limiting messing with either device at all, ever, when Im actually moving !!!!
This setup also works great to preview my audio compositions done in GB, although, Im no pro composer.
    Hope this helps,

  • Trying to connect my iBook to PC

    Hello,
I've been trying to set up file sharing between my Windows laptop and my iBook wirelessly throuth AirPort Express. I have managed to access my iBook files from my Windows laptop but not the vice versa. I can't seem to connect the iBook to the other laptop, am I doing something wrong with the IP address or something?
Please help, I'm a new Mac user so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks very much,

  • HT4059 When I go yo purchase a book, I pad says cannot connect to iBook store

When I go to purchase a book, iPad says cannot connect with iBook store.

Thanks for responding turingtest2 - I finally worked it out (no thanks to Apple!) - I am in South Africa at the moment and availability of content here is very limited (it seems) according to the bloggers - when I looked there is a tiny faint grey note at the bottom of http://www.apple.com/za/itunes/download ...
it seems to pick up South Africa and the UK - in fact I have set up an alternative UK apple ID so I suppose it sees my ipad, checks my "accounts" and constructs the note accordingly?  Weird.
It would have been REALLY helpful to have a clear indication of content availability when setting up the South African account.  I have found the several places where the experts explain how to work around this problem with fake US addresses and voucher payments.  I don't want to do that.
I have to say that my limited experience with iTunes and Apple over three years (previously on PC/Windows) is way below what I would expect from Apple inc ... this incident must have wasted four hours of my life ...

    Hello there, Goraksanat.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some good pointers for troubleshooting your issue:

  • Powerbook G4 can't connect to iBook

Im trying to transfer some files from my Powerbook to an iBook. I have the computers connected via ethernet, and AppleTalk is active on both computer. I can see my Powerbook in the iBook's network screen, however, my Powerbook's network screen is blank. Also, my Network screen is sparratic when opening, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. I did this same using a brand new MacBook, and the same iBook, and I had no problems at all. Any help would be awesome.

Troubleshooting networking is hard. Can you use Firewire instead? Boot the Powerbook while holding the T key down. The Powerbook should boot into Firewire Target Disk mode, and the Firewire logo should flit around the screen like a screensaver.
Use a Firewire cable to connect the 2 computers. The Powerbook should show up on the iBook desktop like an external harddrive. Transfer files.

  • Can connect w/ iBook, but not new iMac

Just got a new iMac (yay me!). But I can't get it to connect w/ my wireless router. However, my old iBook doesn't have any problem.
I'm trying the same network as the iBook, but it keeps saying it can't connect.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. My iBook which is about a year old, connects to my Belkin router with no problems. Really fast connection, stable etc...
But, the new iMac can't get a connection. In the internet connect box it sees the router, but when selected it connects, and then the signal level drops to nothing and it disconnects.
I have also found that if I turn both airport cards off, and then connect the iMac, the iBook won't connect (same problems, low signal strength and all that). Is there some conlfict between them?
My flatmate had a toshiba and a Macbook which both connected without a problem, and without changing my Ibook's connection.
    This seems strange.
I have assigned each computer an ip address which works ok.
    Any ideas?

  • Connecting my iBook G4 to a Projector

    Hello.
I have an iBook G4 (June 2005), and have never been able to successfully display on a projector (which is currently an Optoma MovieTime).
The computer does list the projector when they're connected, but the projector doesn't recognize the computer when it's scanning for devices.
Perhaps there is a way to use keyboard shortcuts to choose which display settings are wanted? Or maybe there is a way to toggle if the computer is giving any output...
    Thanks.

With the projector turned on and the display wire plugged into the iBook,
you should be able to get some indication of it being attached on restart
of the iBook. It may show as a second display or component in Profiler.
Under the System Preferences>Displays control panel there should be
a way to see a second display or turn on Mirroring, but this usually shows
up like an auto-detect; it should be in the control panel in one or another
of the settings. In older OSX system controls, there also was a button
in Displays that said "Detect Displays."
If you have access to a second display, and the Apple display adapter
your computer may have been shipped with, you could test the adapter
and see if it shows in the Displays control panel and in the Profiler. It
may be that you either have a defective adapter or the wrong one for
use in the projector. You may need to research the needs of the proj-
ector to see if a different Apple adapter is needed; they have a few to
look at in the AppleStore online, in accessories.
You could see if SwitchResX can detect the projector and offer a few
more controls than you have in the default original Displays control panel.

  • Cannot connect Mac ibook to WRT54G router

I have a WRT54G router connected to my desktop. My Dell laptop connects without any problems. Now I am also trying to connect a Mac ibook to the same router. The Airport reads the connection, but it does not accept any passwords. The dropdown of connection options includes Personal WPA, Personal WPA2, Enterprise WPA, and others, but none of them accept my password. I have read some threads about downgrading, but I am concerned that if I make changes to adapt for the Mac, I might lose my Dell connectivity.

Use Firefox or Internet Explorer. Open http://192.168.1.1/ (if you have not changed the LAN IP address of the WRT54G), enter your password (default "admin" ) and you should see the web interface of the router. Click on Wireless. Post the current settings you have there. Then click on Wireless Security and also post the current settings you find there. That will tell us how you have set up the wireless on the router and then we'll see how you correctly set up the iBook for this.
