Connecting apple tv through older receiver to older tv

I have an older (9 years) Yamaha a/v receiver and (same older) Pioneer Elite plasma tv. Neither has hdmi. I am attempting to connect to the receiver via optical cable for sound and RGB (component) connectors for video. I am going through the "D-TV" (digital tv) component hook-ups on the receiver. I get no picture.
I have tried apple's suggestion of changing the video mode ("menu" and "+" on the remote) to no effect.
The receiver and tv function fine in all other respects.
Is there something I am missing?
All sugestions gladly accepted!

The Apple TV doesn't output in RGB, its component signals are YCbCr. However, I suspect that your TV is also expecting YCbCr so this isn't the likely problem (i.e. it's just a mistake in your terminology). In any case, if your plasma TV supports only RGB then the YCbCr signals won't work without an color space converter.

  • Connecting apple tv through stereo receiver

I just bought apple tv and wanted to know if it's possible to connect it through my HDMI stereo receiver instead of directly through my tv. I ask this because I don't want to have to take the tv off the wall and feed cables through the wall unless I have to. Thanks.

Assuming that your TV is connected to the HDMI output of your receiver, you just need to figure out how to route HMDI 2 to the HDMI Output. How to do this depends on the receiver. You should search for forums that are specific your model to get more detailed help.

Ok.  I've answered my own question.  For anyone else with difficultites with a receiver, please read.
    1. HDMI connection has sound, so despite the manual's dirction that you need an optical cable for sound, this is incorrect.
    2. When connecting an HDMI cable from Apple TV to a receiver, you often need to "assign" the input on the receiver.  On my Denon AVR-590, I need to o under the menu settings, then assign the input to Apple TV.
Example:  I have run the HDMI cable from Apple Tv to my receiver, HDMI input #2.  I then go the the menu option on the reciever and assin the HDMI #2 to being active.
That's all I needed.  Hope this may help someone out there!  danny

  • HT5437 connect apple tv to Yamaha receiver RX-A1010

Want to set up Apple TV to Yamaha Receiver RX-A1010 and to use URC Harmony MX980 IR remote.  No info available on Yamaha website or manual
    Anyone done this?
Had Home theater set up by professionals - was hoping we could to this part ourselves.

I just got an Av receiver this week and connected an ATV to it.  You connect from the ATV to one of the receivers HDMI inputs with an HDMI cable and then connect from the receiver's HDMI output to  TV HDMI input.  If your tv does not have HDMI ARC, also connect an optical digital cable between receiver and tv for sound.  Just be sure to remember what input you used on the receiver to connect your ATV to so you can select that input to play the ATV.

  • Connect Apple TV 2 to Receiver

    Hi
I have not bought Apple TV jet, but i'm thinking of doing it, but i do not know if i will be able to connect it to my sony receiver called: Sony STR-de495P
Here you see a photo of the receiver from behind:
So my question is, will I be able to connect Apple TV 2 to this, and how can I do it?
    Best Regards
    Emil

The ATV2 only has HDMI out for video.  There's an optical out for audio too, but I don't know much about it.
If you only have RCA-in, you're out of luck for direct use, or you'll need to spend some extra dosh on a converter.
In my case, my TV has HDMI-in and a headphone out, so I just put a mini-stereo-to-RCA cable in place and I'm happy.  YMMV depending on how "central" your receiver is to your setup.

  • Connecting apple tv to a receiver via optical cable

I connected my apple TV via a digital optical cable to the yamaha receiver RX-V477,but I have not figure out how to hear the music that is coming from the apple tv. Can you help me with the set-up in the yamaha receiver. Thanks

    Hey mgrossi,
The Apple TV's optical digital-audio port, also known as as TOSLINK, carries both audio and video signal when used with the proper cable. See this article for reference -

  • HI,,,,, i HAVE USED THE SITE CALLED OUTPERSONALS FOR SOMETIME BUT CANNOT CONNECT ANYMORE EVEN THROUGH EMAILS RECEIVED FROM THE SITE ,,, ANYBODY THERE HAVE SUGGESTIONS PLEASE ,,, THANK YOU ,,,

    Hi Ken,
Wow, I've logged into adobe and never seen your response until now.
I need to make the forums more of a daily stop I guess.
Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared
Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
    I have of course rebooted,
Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads,  tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can  put files there?  There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting.  Just an fyi. for what it's worth.
Please, feel free to contact me,
I'm on g+ chat [email protected]

  • How to connect apple tv2 to receiver

Apple tv is connected to tv via hdmi - working perfectly. But i would like to connect apple tv to my receiver as well - for surround sound on movies and for streaming audio from the computer.
My receiver has 3 optical ports in addition to the DVD coax ( CD, CDR and TV) which one do i use to connect from apple tv  - none seem to work.
Apple TV set to dolby output.
receiver digital in is turned on
    No sound from the receiver
    Help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You need to use one of the optical ports.
Are you sure they are optical ports.
Are you sure you are matching the input to the output correctly on the receiver.
Have you tried adjusting the audio out and Dolby digital settings on the Apple TV.

  • How to connect Apple TV 3 to denon 1910

Having trouble need to know how to set up Apple TV through denon1910 receiver.

If your Denon receiver does not have an optical audio input, I believe that leaves you with two options. You can purchase an optical audio to RCA audio converter, then connect that to your receiver. Or you can take the HDMI output from AppleTV to an HDMI to Component Video/Audio Converter, send the component video to your TV and the audio to your receiver. The latter will probably degrade your video signal and result a poorer image.
    I hope this helps.

  • Since recent download of Firefox, "unable to connect"; Perhaps an older version will work; checked my firewall to allow, etc.; I'm connecting to you through Safari

I've been using Firefox until a recent download and now it won't connect. Perhaps an older version will work; checked my firewall to allow, etc.; I'm connecting to you through Safari; For some reason Internet Explorer is also not connecting. My computer uses Vista.

    Hello Michael.
Hopefully this support article is what you need:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+will+not+start
In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
Also, if you want to use an older version of Firefox, please use Firefox 3.5.11. Only versions 3.5.11 and 3.6.8 are supported, and both contain all the latest security fixes. Using any other version is unsafe and not recommended.

  • Playing Apple TV through my Onkyo receiver requires the TV to be powered on, can this be avoided?

My Apple tv is connected to an HDMI input on my Onkyo receiver and plays perfrctly but requires the TV connected to the HDMI output to be powered on to play music thtough the received, is there a way to play music through the receiver without having the TV powered on?

According to the following thread, it looks like the TV has to be on in order to play music:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17638488#17638488
My wild guess is they were trying to close some kind of security (DRM) hole and ended up making the AppleTV less useful for streaming music than an AirPort Express. Sigh.
Edit: Ignore me. Jon8979's response is much better than mine. He posted it while I was composing mine.

  • I would like to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable and pass thru dolby digital. I do not have optical inputs on my receiver.

I want to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable. This should allow me to pass thru high definition video and simultaneously decode Dolby Digital material with an HDMI connection from my receiver to my TV without the use of an optical cable (my receiver does not have an optical input). I am unable to decode 5.1 material and don't understand why this is not working. In the audio setting I have Dolby Digital output turned on.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you sure the content you are playing has Dolby Digital.
