Connecting AppleTV to TV

The more I read on different Forums about how to connect my appleTV to my TV which does not have a HDMI, DVI connection or Component , then I get just soooo confused as there are so many solutions suggested and so many contradicted ideas so I need some help.
My TV is a Philips 32PW6506/01 a 32 inch widescreen
The input connections are;
on the back:
- Ext1= Scart Euro A/V Connector RGB in, CVBS in/out
- Ext2= Scart Euro A/V Connector S-Video in, CVBS in/out
- Stereo Audio out
on the side:
- CVBS video in (composite
- Audio L/R (cinch/RCA) in
I don´t know a thing about Scart, YUV, RGB... so I hope some professional can help me with an advice what I really need.

Hi, I've got the same problem (and also the same TV model)
There is a possible solution here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=906299
You will also need an adapter to plug the composite cables from the Apple TV in a SCART connector: http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/YUV-RGB-SCART.html.
Good luck!. If it works, please let me know!

  • Can I connect AppleTV to 27" Thunderbolt Display?

    Hello,
I've 27" Thunderbolt Display. I'm planning to get AppleTV. Can I connect AppleTV to Thunderbolt Display? I know that TD has only Thunderbolt / mini DisplayPort and AppleTV has HDMI only port. Can I use this adapter "http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er" for my purpose?
Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'd be inclined to check with Apple about that, or wait for someone who has used exactly the same set up as you propose to use and can share their experience with you.
The possible problems I can see that you might want to specifically confirm are:
The cable I believe is intended to be used the other way around, can it be used the way you intend.
    Does the cable support HDCP.
You might also confirm the following about the display:
    Does it support HDCP
    Does it support 720p natively
Finally the display is likely to be 16:10, check whether any picture on screen will be stretched or will be letterboxed, you need it to be letterboxed.

  • Can't connect appletv 1st generation to nwpa2-personal network

I have a 1st generation Apple TV that has worked for years connected to my unsecured home wifi. I can't get it to work with any security, though. Currently I have my home network configured with wpa2-personal encryption but my appletv won't accept my 8-digit (numbers only) password.

Settings > computers > connect to iTunes.
It may have your library listed instead of the words connect to iTunes, if so click on it, you may get a warning that all content will be deleted but it can all be added back when you reconnect.

  • Can someone help a non-tech type with connecting AppleTV?

I want to connect AppleTV3.  My current setup was done 6 yrs ago when I bought TV, Receiver and Speakers.  Sony TV has 3 HDMI inputs, Integra receiver has 2 HDMI inputs.  On receiver HDMI1 is from cable box, HDMI2 is Bluray, HDMI Out goes to TV HDMI1.  ATV works when I plug it in to the HDMI2 input on receiver instead of the Bluray but I don't want to have to manually switch cables around each time.  I bought a Rockport switch box from Bestbuy thinking that would give me more HDMI Inputs but couldn't get it to work.  When I plug ATV directly into TV HDMI 2 or 3 I don't get sound. I really hate to pay $100++++ to have someone come out to look at this and then tell me it can't be done.  Is there an easy fix?

There are nev erenough HDMI inputs!
Presumably your Integra receiver does the surround sound duties.
Without going down the route of buying a new receiver, I would do what you have done and used either HDMI input 2 or 3 on the TV for AppleTV.
My initial guess would be that you have Apple TV Settings for audio configured for Dolby Digital > On.
Most TVs can only handle stereo so if you force Dolby Digital over HDMI you get no audio - however I would expect you to be able to play stereo audio/trailers fine.  If that is what you have configured turn Dolby Digital to Auto or Off and see if that gives sound on the TV.
If that works then I would personally run an optical cable from AppleTV to an optical input on the receiver for better audio/surround audio thoiugh for Dolby Digital you may need to silence the TV and have the DD option set to On in the settings to get DD over optical (stereo goes when there is no DD).
Also check what happens via HDMI input 1 with appleTV plugges in - you could conncet the Integra HDMI ut to inputs 2 or 3.
You will want the Blu Ray player hooked up to the Integra.  If your cable broadcasts are stereo only you might be better off having Blu Ray and AppleTV hooked up to Integra and cable to HDMI on TV.
Many ways to potentially do it.

Is there a special optical audio cable to connect the appletv device toa tv

the only optical cable type appletv support is toslink

not even sure if my Bravia does because I connect it to my sony surround receiver rather then the tv

  • Connect AppleTV and iMac to same pair of speakers

    Hi all,
I have an AppleTV which I would like to use to AirPlay audio over from my iDevice to a pair of wired speakers.
i have an iMac that's currently connected to this pair of speakers.
Is there any inexpensive way I can use the AppleTV and iMac to play audio through the same pair of wired speakers? Thank u!

You can only output from Apple TV to connected speakers or ones that are airplay capable. Connecting speakers to an Airport Express will make non-enabled speakers airplay compatible.
You can output from a Mac to multiple speakers using airplay.

  • Lost sound on MacBook after connecting AppleTV

I connected my AppleTV today - all good - but now I have no sound on my MacBook.  Can't find any solutions in settings.  Help!  Thanks.

No sound at all or just in iTunes?
Check itunes isn't doing Airplay to AppleTV - icon in bottom right of window pane to select remote speakers/AppleTVs.
Alt click on the speaker icon on the top of the screen (not iTunes) next to the date and check what audio out you have selected.

  • HT1595 Cannot connect Appletv to wifi network

Appletv doesn't see my wifi network. It doesn't see it when I enter my IP address manually. Help?

If there is no network entering an IP address does nothing since it would not beable to connect to that IP.  If your WiFi network is not comming up it might be one of the things below.  While it is possible to use AppleTV with WiFi and will mostly work it is not extreamely reliable.  Streaming video, espeically HD video over WiFi usally does not work that well for very long.  So you would probably be better off using a wired connection.  It is up to you though.
    Things to look into:
        1.  ATV may be too far from the router.
        2.  The router my be set to not broad cast it's SID which would prevent connecting devices from seeing it.
        3.  The router might have MAC address filtering turned on which could be preventing ATV from being able to cnnect to it.
         4.  The router might be configured to use one of the Enterprise encryption standards that ATV does not support.

  • Cant connect AppleTV as remote speakers

AppleTV will no longer connect as a remote speaker from iTunes. I always get the following even though my iMac and AppleTV are active on my home network: An error occured while connecting to the remote speaker "Apple TV". An unknown error occurred (-15000).

This is really frustrating... Why does Apple refuse to acknowledge this issue as it appears to be a problem for many!
I'm in the same boat with the following config:
MacBook Pro (Early '08) <-wireless-> AirPort Extreme 802.11g <-ethernet-> ATV
Why is it that ever since late December, I've been unable to stream from iTunes to my ATV?
Firmware on everything is the latest, using iTunes 8.0.2, AppleTV 2.3, OSX 10.5.6, I've set the firewall to "Set access..." and allowed iTunes, I've tried the iPv6 on/off trick, yet NOTHING works!
Is this a 10.5.6 issue? I noticed that it tanked right around the 12/15/08 release date...

  • Connect AppleTV to iPhone Tethering

    Hello,
I would like to connect my AppleTV 2 to my iPhones personal hotspot function when traveling.
It seems to connect up fine, movie images show in the upper bar, I can watch trailers (which look suprisingly good coming in over 3G), but I cannot sign into the iTunes store.  The error I get is that time and date have not yet been set, please try again later.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  Netflix also doesn't work, the movie covers also show up in the bar, but clicking on them produces no effect at all, just the click noise.  I don't have any ideas there, my real goal would be to watch purchased TV shows from the store.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I can't imagine anyway you'd get this to work, but I'd be delighted to be wrong.

  • Can't connect AppleTV to ITunes on PC

I have seen many threads of people having problems connecting Itunes on their Windows PCs to their AppleTV. Has anyone got a solution? Here is what I have done.
I have restarted PC, router, and AppleTV many times. I have enabled Home Sharing and gone into preferences to ensure everything in ITunes was setup for sharing by sharing my entire library. My AppleTV still cannot see my PC. Any other suggestions.

I am running Windows 7 and after the last update to iTunes Apple TV would get message about home sharing is not available and everything seemed to be setup correctly.   Support suggested and reinstall and reboot of the router.   Apple TV would work maybe every 5 to 7 days.   I happened across something last night where if you right click on the iTunes icon you can run diagnostics.   It said there was an incompatibility between iTunes and my version of Windows.   I let it do the repair and it asked to change some system settings.   After I let it do that then the sharing message went away.   It worked again twice today even after I shutdown both the computer and Apple TV.  Only annoying thing right now is everytime I start iTunes it asks permission to change system setting and then a second message box reminds me that some screen settings wouldn't be good but at least my Apple TV works again.
