Connecting ATV by HDMI to receiver?

Can somebody help with this.??
I have 4 x HDMI slots on my Yamaha receiver (AVR)  - DVR (used for satellite Foxtel), DTV (used for TV), DVD (used for bluray) and HD DVD (which is empty but is programmed to operate the Wii).. When I plugged the  ATV HDMI into the AVR slot HD DVD, I get sound from ATV but not picture - the Wii image is on the TV screen! Any suggestions??
Thank you !

So far as I am aware the Wii doesn't have an HDMI output, so you are either selecting the wrong input on the receiver or the receivers mapping is wrong, refer to the receiver manual for more information.

  • How do I connect my ATV to my Yamaha receiver, pvr, Sony Bravia, and DVD player?

Note: I am not very savvy with this stuff so basic lingo please ;) I have a lot of hdmi inputs & outputs. I had it all connected & working except for the surround sound wasn't playing for Apple TV. I have 3 hdmi's on the TV labeled 1, 2 & 3. The receiver has a "HDMI DVD IN1" and "HDMI DTV/CBL IN2" and then another that just says "OUT".
So I'm not only trying to figure out what to connect to each device but also by the numbers & in & out options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

If you want the ATV sending audio to the receiver, connect it to one of the inputs on the receiver.
Ideally, all devices connect to the reciever.
The reciever then connects via one HDMI cable to the TV.
That way all audio goes to the receiver and the TV merely acts as a monitor.
However, this may not work in all situations depending on the number of inputs on the receiver.  Personally, I would replace the receiver with on that has at least 4 inputs, but that may not be feasible depending on your situation.

  • Has anyone successfully connected New ATV without HDMI?

There are numerous threads suggesting a variety of methods that MIGHT connect ATV to an older HDTV w/o HDMI but has anyone actually done so successfully? If so, please explain what actually worked. I'm curious because I'm stuck with a Mitsubishi rear screen with DVI, Component, S Video but no HDMI.
    Thanks

I just received an Apple TV for Christmas and was able to hook it up to my RCA projection TV that has a DVI input only. I have a HDMI to DVI cable that I hooked between the Apple TV and the TV, and I hooked up the optical audio output to my surround receiver.
I did have an issue with the picture not displaying correctly to the television when I first turned on the Apple TV, but after the software updated, the picture is now more stable. There are some minor issues with the menu not totally appearing at the top right of the screen, but when I toggle the menu back and forth, the missing information reappears.
To make sure that I didn't have any audio issues, I set the audio to dolby 5.1 "on" instead of auto, which was suggested in another thread. I really didn't try any audio/video without it set up in this fashion and I don't recall hearing the menu clicks on my stereo until I changed the setting.

  • TV CONNECTED BY HDMI TO RECEIVER

on the TV I have it connected by Hdmi to the receiver and now I plugged in the BlueRay to the receiver by hdmi and I put it to the port of the hdmi and that works fine now I am trying to get the hdmi from the TV to the receiver to work and it says no signal found. I don't have a cable box I have a coaxial cable to the TV now how do I change it so it can show a signal

Can you connect the coaxial to the receiver? If not, you would want to get an optical cable if your t.v. has an optical out and run it from the tv to the receiver and then set the receiver on that audio setting. What is the model of your tv and receiver? just to clarify, you are just trying to watch t.v. right? If so, set the t.v. to the input for the coaxial, so just cycle through the inputs til you have a picture. To get the sound through the speakers, do what i posted first.

  • How to connect ATV into the Entertainment center

I was wondering how people are connecting ATV into their entertainment center or components. I have of course the widescreen TV, ATV, also DVD, set top box and the stereo. The stereo is a late 80's/early 90's version that uses the copper stereo wiring and not the red/white plugin in the back.
How are people setting up a similar system. Thanks

My main set up is; tv to tv via HDMI, optical to receiver, I've thrown my DVD player and my STB is connected via scart.
Your stereo likely doesn't have HDMI or optical but may have an auxiliary input of some kind, I think you are probably talking about the outputs in your description and I'd be surprised if the auxiliary (if there is one) isn't a red/white RCA connector.

  • Apple TV optical out to DAC plus HDMI to receiver?

I currently have my Apple TV connected to my Denon AV receiver via HDMI which then outputs 5.1 audio and video to the TV.
My hope is to also stream my lossless iTunes music library to Apple TV (from my Mac Mini) which would take the audio from the ATV's optical out to my Peachtree Nova DAC, also connected to my AV receiver.
Is this possible? Or would the HDMI out from the ATV supersede the ATV's optical audio out?

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but...
Try running your ATV to both sources. In my setup I have it running to a Yamaha Rx - V373 via HDMI for movies and tv. I also have the optical output from the ATV running to a Rotel preamplifier, which is connected to a pair of speakers that are great for music.
If I don't want the music to come out of the 5.1 receiver, I simple turn of the 5.1 receiver. Same way for movies, I will turn off the Rotel amp so the sound only comes out of the receiver.
By doing this you will take advantage of whichever component you need when you need it, reaping the advantages that it provides.
And Peachtree stuff is highly thought of in many audio circles. Very affordable for what it can provide. Can sometimes be found a little cheaters in eBay so try their first.

  • I was able to hook up my ATV with HDMI. The picture came out fine and i can navigate fine however i have no sound. What am I doing wrong?

I was able to hook up my ATV with HDMI. The picture came out fine and I can navagate but I get no sound. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for all your responses to my questions really appreciate it.
I have the HDMI cable hooked up directly to the TV and I do not have an optical hook up directly on the tv. The receiver is in a separate room. Not close enough to connect to the receiver. Can I connect the apple TV though my DVD player which has a HDMI port and in the same room as the receiver?

  • Connecting ATV Ethernet thru Verizon cable box ethernet?

We just moved into our house this past weekend. The previous owners had the place wired for ethernet in all places except in the built-in cabinets that form the main entertainment area (component cables rather than HDMI as well!). We are going to work on that.
One of the things I really wanted to do was connect the Apple TV via ethernet. Without a dedicated ethernet line I guess I'm looking for a work-around. We have a Verizon cable box that has an ethernet port. For grins I connected the ATV to the verizon box. Under the ATV, it shows that the ATV is connected with numbers, etc. But, when I try to do anything online nothing seems to work. I tried to connect to Itunes and that did not work.
Is what I'm trying to do even possible? If so, do I need to do something so that the devices are communicating over the wired network? I've never owned a wired home before so just figuring this out.
    Thanks.

    Capaho,
Thanks for the response. I'm a little confused.
I have the Verizon router that they have put in the basement where all of the wiring comes together. This is distributing the wireless signal but I prefer to have it connected via ethernet.
I also have my time capsule/router but I've left that unplugged until I sort out this new home network.
The ATV is in the den connected to the A/V receiver with the rest of the components. No internet jack in the cabinet.
The ATV can communicate wirelessly to itunes to retrieve data stored on itunes. What I wanted to do was buy a separate hard drive, put all the media on it, and point the ATV to that device over the wired network.
By turning on "internet sharing" is that better than just connecting ATV to the imac wirelessly now?
Sorry for the questions but I'm a newbie to the wired house and trying to figure it all out.

  • Connecting Mac Mini to AV Receiver

I thought this would be simple. I purchased a Mac Mini today with the thought of connecting it through my AV receiver to my LG tv. Here's what I did:
    1) brought it home from the store
    2) plugged an HDMI cable into the Mac Mini, and the other end into my receiver (Yamaha RX-V3800)
    3) there is another HDMI cable that goes from my receiver to my LG tv (LG Infinia 50PK950)
    4) turned everything on, turned the receiver to the correct input that I plugged the Mac Mini HDMI cable into...
    ... and I get nothing.
The Mac Mini is on, the blue light is on.
Do I need to perform some sort of set up on the mini before I can connect it to my tv to use the tv as a monitor?
Did I connect the wrong HDMI cable?
    Is it not compatible?
I thought it would be an easy connection if I went Mac Mini > HDMI > Yamaha AV Receiver > HDMI > LG Infinia 50PK950 TV.
    Any help?

Yup - tried connecting it through 2 different HDMI inputs on the tv, and tried different HDMI cables in case that was the problem. All I'm getting is "No Signal" on the tv.
I can run a PS3 through my receiver via HDMI and to the tv and it works fine.
I think the first step at this point is to verify that the actual mini is working since I just pulled it out of the box and connected it. The blue light is on and it sounds like it is on but I haven't been able to see it on any monitor or tv.
Should I be able to just connect straight from the mini to a tv using an HDMI cable? I don't have a mouse or keyboard plugged in either, I only have the wireless apple ones.

  • Connect Apple TV 2 to Receiver

    Hi
I have not bought Apple TV jet, but i'm thinking of doing it, but i do not know if i will be able to connect it to my sony receiver called: Sony STR-de495P
Here you see a photo of the receiver from behind:
So my question is, will I be able to connect Apple TV 2 to this, and how can I do it?
    Best Regards
    Emil

The ATV2 only has HDMI out for video.  There's an optical out for audio too, but I don't know much about it.
If you only have RCA-in, you're out of luck for direct use, or you'll need to spend some extra dosh on a converter.
In my case, my TV has HDMI-in and a headphone out, so I just put a mini-stereo-to-RCA cable in place and I'm happy.  YMMV depending on how "central" your receiver is to your setup.

  • No picture using component connections with Sony STR-DG710 Receiver

I have been unable to get a picture (sound appears to be ok) using component cables to connect to a Sony 710 receiver - the (2) HDMI inputs on the receiver are taken by equipment that can not use component cables. Apple Store checked Apple TV unit and said component outlets were ok. I did barrow one of the HDMI cables to set the system up (1080i resolution was selected). Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?

There may be an easy answer here. It's your receiver - not the apple TV
1080p HDMI Inputs: The Sony receiver features two 1080p HDMI inputs and one 1080p HDMI output. The receiver transmits both audio and video through the HDMI monitor output to your TV or you can choose for the HDMI monitor out terminal to only output video to your television. Video signal that is input through HDMI input can only be output through the HDMI monitor output terminal.
Note: The receiver does not offer video upconversion.
So it looks like if you go HDMI in - you have to go HDMI out (to your TV)
If you go component in - you need to go component out (to your TV)

  • Connecting atv2 to a homecinema receiver

I intend buy a atv2, is it possible to connect this to a homecinema Receiver Pioneer VSX AX4AS, the receiver  supports theHDMI standard Version 1.2

    In theory yes.
AppleTVs have always been a bit fussy about HDMI, but provided it supports HDCP it should be OK.
Alternatively the option is to hook it up to TV direct via HDMI and optical to reciever for audio.

  • Connecting apple tv through stereo receiver

I just bought apple tv and wanted to know if it's possible to connect it through my HDMI stereo receiver instead of directly through my tv. I ask this because I don't want to have to take the tv off the wall and feed cables through the wall unless I have to. Thanks.

Assuming that your TV is connected to the HDMI output of your receiver, you just need to figure out how to route HMDI 2 to the HDMI Output. How to do this depends on the receiver. You should search for forums that are specific your model to get more detailed help.

  • Connecting ATV to surround sound

    Hi
I'm trying to connect my ATV to Sony surround sound.
The surround sound only has an HDMI output. It has one optical sound input.
I have connected ATV to the TV via HDMI.
I have connected ATV and my Fox box to the one optical sound input via an optical cable splitter.
Fox sound is fine. No ATV sound - even when Fox is turned off.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Rudegar - that's how it's set up, only problem is no sound from ATV.
Presumed it was something to do with settings, but have played about with everything I can think of and still no joy

  • IPad HDMI through receiver

This has probably been asked but: in my college class we have a projector that's hdmi to a receiver and then the receiver has hdmi input. I plugged in my ipad and nothing! No sound or video. We ended up connecting it directly to the projector, is there something I did wrong? Or that could be wrong with the setup?

The article mentions a USB connection, not a HDMI connection.
I have a Denon 4311, which is connected to 2 mono amps for my B&W 803D fronts.
SACD is running very smooth on it compaired with the CD layer.
I tested with a pc connected to it and I could clearly hear the difference between 24/96 and the downsampled version of it to 16/44.1 . I could even hear a difference between the downsampled version and the CD I ripped with EAC...
Still the SACD sounds better, more dynamic to me than the 24/96 track (both in analog and digital connection).
Now I'm using foobar to stream my 24/96 through DLNA to my receiver (which is also not bad but I can not control it from my iPod :-)) ).
So for me the iPad would be an ideal solution (if it's working)...
