Connecting ATV to a home theater w/o HDMI

Best way to connect my ATV?
My home theater system does not have any "video in" ports. The guy at Best Buy told me I could run a HDMI cable directly from the ATV to my tv for video and also run an optical digital cable from the ATV to my home theater for sound. Will this work?

Audio will come from both the receiver and the tv if you set your system up the way you suggested, you simply need to turn your tv speakers off (or down if you don't have an off setting)

  • Connecting Apple TV to home theater

My home theater AV receiver (Denon) is HDMI compatible but the Pioneer plasma HD tv it's connected to is not.
I have it connected by component cables.  Is there a way to connect my Apple TV with this configuration?

Is there a way to connect my Apple TV with this configuration?
Not directly no, unless your receiver is able to convert the HDMI digital input to an analog component output, which it is unlikely to be able to do.
    Signal Conversion.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

  • Help me set up my ATV with Samsung Home theater (No HDMI in)

    Hey all,
I have a TV with one HDMI in. My home theater receiver has an HDMI out and no HDMI ins. My apple TV HDMI out to the TV HDMI in works perfectly, but obviously I want to use my surround sounds/theater. I do have an optical cable, and my receiver has an optical jack.
Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

you'll need to connect HDMI to your TV and optical to your home theatre.

  • Trouble w/ the connection from my Panasonic Home Theater System

    So I recently purchased
    Panasonic - 5.1-Ch. 3D Blu-ray Home Theater System
    Panasonic - 50" Class / 720p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV
and I already have a Att u-verse Box at my house
now I have the home theatre system and the ATT uverse connected to the TV with their own HDMI cables. The Att is connected to the 1st HDMI port and the home theatre is connected to the 2nd HDMI port.
The guy at the store said I could get surround sound when I'm watching cable if I got a Rocketfish Digital Optical Audio Cable and plugged it in to my uverse box,
but now I'm confused because I tried plugging it in from the uverse box to the TV and that didn't work, then i tried connecting it from the uverse box to the theatre system and that didn't work,
but the loop hole we found is that if we unplug the HDMI cable that is connecting the theatre system to the TV (only unplugged from the TV), we can hear the cable on surround sound, but if it's plugged in we can't hear it, so now we have to unplug and plug in to watch movies or cable, but that's way too frustrating to deal with, does anyone know how to fix this so my surround sound works with everything w/o having to unplug?

    Do this:
Check your manuals for the exact ports and menu settings for the following, the TV should have come with a poster that shows the connections as well.
Take the Rocketfish cable back to BB You can only get 5.1 surround over optical from your Panasonic TV when using the internal tuner, and other source, like HDMI will be limited to 2.1 audio.
    then
1 - HDMI from your cable box to HDMI 2 on your Panny TV.
2 - HDMI port 1 which should be labeled ARC from your Panny TV to the HDMI OUT port on your Panny reciever. It should also be labeled ARC.
3 - Turn on Viera Link on both the TV and the reciever.

  • Connecting airport extreme to home theater

I was told you could connect your airport extreme to your theater and play music for you imac
wirelessly.. Does anyone know to do this or where I can find
    info .
    Thanks

You have confused the AirPort Express (AX) and the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
The AX has an audio output and has the ability to receive music streamed from iTunes on your computer. Checkout http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/
The AEBS does not have an audio output.

  • Connecting to home theater receiver without hdmi

I have a sony hdtv and a yamaha receiver which work great but don't have hdmi ports.  I connected apple tv through hdmi to component video converter and then to dvd inputs on yamaha receiver.  When i turn everything on and select dvd on yamaha receiver i see the apple symbol on sony hdtv for a few seconds but then nothing but a black screen.  Can I use this converter?  Is there a way to make this work?  Thanks

  • Apple TV won't connect properly to Sony home theatre system using hdmi cable.

Using an HDMI cable to the port on the home theatre system I can get sound, but the picture is intermittent. It Comes on for 1second, goes of for 10 seconds.
If I connect directly to the TV using the HDMI to DVI-D cable it works, but because I am using a Fujitsu plasmavision it is a monitor only with no speakers.
Would really like to get this to work and don't understand why the video signal is intermittent from the blueray player. Other inputs into the player through the HDMI port work OK (such as a set top box).

Just installed my Vizio SoundBar with my new LG TV & Apple TV 2... The trick to get the Apple TV 2 to send audio to the Soundbar is on the Apple TV Menu under audio change it to 16 bit. Boom it works.

  • Apple tv home theater connect?

how to connect apple tv to home theater receiver that conncts to monitor with component cables?

Theoretically you can't do that - as AppleTV and most HDMI equipped devices enforce HDCP to prevent conversion of protected digital video to analogue video you will struggle to find an easy solution.
You may find converters out there that'll convert HDMI to analogue video but they will be of dubious legality as manufacturers of devices using HDMI are supposed to block such conversions or downgrade the analogue out signal.

  • Connecting the Audigy 2 to a home theater sys

I've seen a lot of posts on this subject, but have seen a number of different answers. Hopefully I can get a definiti've answer...
I have an Audigy 2 ZS card (ordered as part of a Dell E50) in my PC and want to connect it to my home theater system. The home theater system has both analog, digital coax, and digital optical inputs. I want to get the best possible sound quality coming out of the PC to play music, thus I would like to have a digital connection between the PC and receiver.
The question I have is specifically what type of connector do I need to make this digital connection. I have seen people mention using a regular mini-plug to RCA connector, but didn't really say whether that got a digital signal or not.
I've looked on the Creative web site a bit, and saw some cables, but didn't know for sure which one was the right one. Please advise specifically what kind of cable I should get for this.
    Thanks.

You will have to ask the store if they have a 3.5mm minijack to RCA cable. Somewhere within the Getting Started program of the Audigy 2 ZS Sound card they have a section which shows you illustrations on how to connect your sound card to different setu
    ps.
The digital connection will give you the purest stereo signal for your music, but you will not get surround sound unless you are listening to a surround sound?digital feed which the Home Cinema Recei'ver can understand (i.e. Dolby Digital, DTS, or regular PCM). This means that unelss you are listening to DVD Videos?with Dolby Digital or DTS soundtracks, you will only get stereo sound out the speakers, no multi channel EAX, no DVD Audio or CMSS either. Best thing to do is to connect the sound card to the Home theater system using Analog Mutlichannel input. Get 3 3.5mm to 2 Phono Cables. Plug each 3.5mm end into Line out ,2 and 3 on the back of the sound card. At the other end of the cable, match the 2 phono plugs?to the respecti've sockets on the home cinema amp. For example Line out is the front left and right speaker so just match white with Front Left and red with Front Right. Line out 2 - white goes to Rear/Surround Left and Red goes to Rear/Surround Right, irrespecti've of the colour coding on your amp.
Line out 3 - white goes to Center, red goes to Subwoofer, irrespecti've of the colour?coding again?- am not too sure on this one so be ready to reverse the connections if the speaker test comes out wrong or the "Front Center" voice booms out of your subwoofer!?By connecting it through multi channel analog input, the sound card will do all the decoding, so you can enjoy CMSS, EAX, Neo:6 and any other multi channel pleasure that the Sound Card provides in all its glory. The digital connection will provide purer sound but NOT surround sound unless you invoke a multi channel source such as a Dolby Digital or DTS?DVD, this is of course assuming you have set up the DVD software to correctly channel the sound to the SPDIF out and then set the sound card to passthrough SPDIF signals through digital out!?Good luck and hope that hel

  • Question about connect X-Fi Xtreme Music with 5.1 Home Theater (analog inp

I want to connect my X-Fi to new speaker. (exact model : EACAN A200 5.)
    but it has only 6 analog input ( center,sub,front l/r,rear l/r )
if i connect it with Creative Home Theater Cable
    ( http://asia.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=55&product=4309 &nav=0 )
will it work perfectly? because i think this cable made for 7. speaker, will i miss sound that came from side l/r channels ?
If i can't use this cable, How can i connect X-fi to a new speaker?
Message Edited by chunbogbog on 04-09-2008 06:0 AM

since u are using 5. speaker, you only need to directly connect the cable from ur speaker to the sound card output, no need to use Creative Home Theater Cable.
and remember to set your sound card to 5. no matter u use what cable, since ur speaker is 5. only...if u play 7. content movie, the side L/R will directly map to the rear speaker, so no "miss sound" issue...understand?

  • P775 S7215 output 5.1 channel to a Home Theater

    Hi everyone,
Does anybody know if it's possible to connect my P775 S7215 to a Home Theater and listen in 5.1 channel?
I'm playing a 5.1 blu-ray disc and my PC is connected to the Home Theater through an HDMI cable but I can only listen in 2 channels
Windows 7, Realtek HD audio ALC269.
    Thanks

This is not really my area of expertise.
But, I went through trying to help someone else with this same problem before. The HDMI is mainly meant for video. So, even the HDMI audio is handled by the video/display/graphics card and its driver.
Given your model has the Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset and the Mobile Intel HD Graphics card, the best I can do is to direct you to the Intel graphics forum and see if someone there can advise you.
Please let us know if you find a solution.

Get an HDMI switcher. Plug in the ATV directly to the TV and then use the switcher on the other input.

  • How to Connect My Apple TV to My Panasonic SC-PT760 Home Theater

    Hello;
I currently use the Panasonic SC-PT760 as the Home Theater DVD Player which only has 1 HMDI output and connects directly to the HD TV, also I have the Direct TV connected to the Home Theather via AUX.
I am wondering how should I connect my apple TV, if I would like to connect ut via HMDI. Is a HMDI switch an option or what should I do ?
    Please advise.

You can purchase HDMI switches but don't expect them to work perfectly in _every_ configuration. What I mean is that your mileage may vary, it may work, or it may not. However, chances are good that it will but I'd make certain that you can return the HDMI switch if it doesn't work correctly when paired with you DVD player and the Apple TV and your HDTV.
By the way, does your TV have component inputs? If so you can use the Apple TV's component outputs to get HD but then you'll have to route the audio from the Apple TV either over standard RCA stereo plugs or via the digital audio optical connection on the Apple TV (assuming again that your HDTV has optical audio inputs, but I see that you receiver has an optical input so that should work too).
