Connecting cam to PC w/Win 8.1

I can't connect, via USB, my silver PowerShot A2500 cam to my PC, Win 8.1 during "set-up". The computer simply doen't "recognize" the device, even after downloaded software from Canon is initiated.

Hello gemofashop,
Since a printer is connected, I would recommend disconnecting it.  Then reboot the system.  If you are using a USB hub, try to connect the camera directly to the tower.  The camera should give you an indication when a connection has been made.  Is this the case when you connect your PowerShot?

I got that error from PhotoBooth, no connected camera.
After messing around with all the usual suggestions (reset PRAM, repair permissions, etc.), I tried plugging in an external USB camera (happened to be a ProScope) and - for no apparent reason - the internal iSight camera sprang to life and has been working fine ever since.
Worth a try - any USB camera should do it.

  • "There is no connected camera" error

After updating to 10.9.2, I can no longer access the camera built in to my Cinema Display and connected to my 2009 Mac Pro. It fails to work in all applications I tried, such as Skype, FaceTime and Photo Booth. Typically, I get an error that says "There is no connected camera."  I can’t say for sure that the update caused the problem, but I became aware of it shortly after doing the update. The camera in my similarly-updated MacBook Pro works just fine.
Here’s all the relevant diagnostic info I can provide:
    • The camera is still listed as “Display iSight” in System Information
    • The problem affects all user accounts, not just my main account
    • Resetting the SMC had no effect. Restarting had no effect.
    • Trying to kill VDCAssistant, either via the Terminal killall command or via Activity Monitor had no effect. In fact, it appeared that neither command successfully killed the two VDCAssistant processes I had going.
    • Console is showing a steady stream of VDCAssistant crashes. A key part of the crash report states: “Client is attempting to access a display by index (1) instead of display ID. abort () called.”
    • ONE THING DID WORK: If I restarted via a Safe Boot, the camera worked! This confirmed my suspicion that the camera itself (or its connection) is not broken. A software fix should be sufficient. I’m just not sure what to fix.
When I did a normal restart after the safe boot, the camera failure returned.
    • I used Cocktail to clear the System Cache. It too had no effect.
If anyone can figure this out, I would be most grateful.

Hmmmm.... The camera is working properly on my 24" LED Display connected to my 2009 Mac Pro!
    Did you try both:
    (1) a restart Mac, repair permissions, 10.9.2 Combo Update, and another permissions repair and,
    (2) OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X via the built-in recovery disk?

  • Getting message that :There is no connected Camera. I have rebooted several times and still can't get it back.

When I go to use Photo Both, Facetime, I get "There is no connected Camera". I have a built in camera but don't know how to fix it. I have tried rebooting in three steps several times. First time it worked, but everytime I log back in, I get the message again and now the reboot does not bring the camera back. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong or should do to fix it?

  • I can't change "Connecting Camera Opens..." in Preferences

I'm running iPhoto 9.1.1 in Snow Leopard 10.6.7, but this problem was present in the last version of iPhoto. I don't know if I installed a plugin a long time ago, but I am now unable to change the "Connecting Camera Opens..." iPhoto preference under General. It shows a blank file icon and is unresponsive when clicked. See screenshot.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Although that thread was different, it gave me an idea.
I decided to move the entire Preferences folder to the desktop and noticed that the problem was solved and I could once again edit the camera preference in iPhoto. However, I'm not going to trash over 1,500 pref files just to solve this problem. Nor am I going to comb through each one. So here's what I did:
I labeled everything in the ~/Library/Preferences folder red and moved half to the desktop. Then I launched iPhoto and checked to see if the problem was still there. If it was, I uncolored the pref files on the desktop, put them back, and checked half of the next batch. I repeated this process of halving batches of files until I found the offending files...
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/<see screenshot below for trashed files>
Since there were 340+ files in the ByHost folder, I just decided to trash all of these pictured. AND IT WORKED!

How do I connect camera in new MacBook Pro?  FaceTime says no camera connected, yet the green light at top of display, by camera, is on.

Assuming you have set up your Preferences correctly in Skype, sometimes Skype doesn't seem to automatically trigger the camera. When that happens just click on the camera icon that appears at the bottom of the screen when making a call:

    Hi!
I have notebook with HDMI and Toshiba Camileo P30.
Can I see picture from camera on my notebook like if connect camera to TV?
What software shall I use (cause nothing happens, when I connect my camera)?

    Hi
Does your notebook supports HDMI IN port?
If not then you cannot do this.
You need a HDMI port which received the signals like a TV or external monitor

  • My Photo Booth is not working. There is no connected camera. Help, anyone?

I have been having this problem for weeks now and I hope some people here will be able to help me.
I just bought my MacBook Pro 13" about 6 months ago and I rarely use it because I still have my old MacBook with me. Recently, my Photo Booth won't work. It says, "There is no connected camera." Can anyone help me? Is there something to do with iSight? Tell me what should I do?
Help is much appreciated. Thank you.

The SMC reset often fixes your problem.  Be sure you follow the instructions for your particular Mac model.

  • Blue cast with connected cameras

When ever I use either my internal iSight camera OR a Firewire connected camera as a webcam I get a blue monochrome image. Using the iSight for one of the iLife apps it works fine. I have posted here because I'm under the impression that it is Quicktime that configures cameras in the Mac OS, but I can find no way of altering the way QT is intergrating with websites and controlling the video. I can move the same Firewire camera to my G4 laptop running the same OS (10.4.8) and have no problems on the same website, so it is a problem with the Intel based iMac somewhere.
    Intel iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't believe it to be an iSight issue as the problem occurs with ANY camera hooked to that computer and used as a webcam. The same caneras work fine on another computer.

  • Fix for "There is no connected camera".

Hey there, I've got a little (very frustrating) problem with my laptop's webcam. I have a MacBook Air 13" Mid-2012, and very often when I go to open up my webcam I get "There is no connected camera". I am aware of the TEMPORARY "sudo killall VDCAssistant" fix, however, I was wondering if there was a more permanent solution without having to take it in. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
