Connecting Chrome Cast to Hub 4 and 5 - Updated 13...

Hi Guys,
We understand some people are having connection problems with Chrome Cast to BT’s Home hub 4 and 5.
We have discovered that Chrome Cast doesn't seem to like the 5Ghz wireless band and this is the setting that the router will automatically try and connect to the device with.  The solution is to change the SSID on the 5Ghz band so that you can force Chrome Cast to use the 2.4Ghz band.  You can do this through the hub manager, to make this easy for you we have set out some simple instructions below.
1.  Access the Hub Manager on your computer by typing api.home into the address bar of the Internet browser, then click Advanced Settings
2.  Next enter the Hub Manager admin password (found on the Hub settings card at the back of the Hub) and click OK
3.  Click Continue to Advanced Settings
4.  Click Wireless
5.  From here you can change the SSID name being broadcast. In this example here we've added 2.4GHz at the end of the name to easily identify this as the 2.4GHZ band. But you can change the name to anything you want. In the Wireless SSID section enter a new name and clickApply
6.  Click Yes for the changes to be applied
7.  Now you've changed the SSID, you'll need to reconnect any other wireless devices you've previously connected
Update - When you follow the above process for changing the SSID of the 5 GHz Band you will see an option which reads 'Sync with 2.4GHz' This option need to be set to 'No'.  I have added a screen shot below,
Update:  We continue to test this and it appears that the BT Home Hub 5A, should be able to Chromecast with the Chromecast on 2.4GHz SSID and the streaming device on the 5GHz SSID.  Smart Setup has to be disabled to enable Chromecast to work though.  To disable Smart Setup please see this link for a step by step guide, Switching Smart Setup on and off on the BT Home Hub 4 or Hub 5
Hope this helps.
Cheers

have you tried splitting your wifi ssid giving say a 5 to end of 5g ssid and turn off smart wireless and select a channel manually

  • Wireless Connection Problems for Home Hub 3 and Vi...

We have upgraded from BT Home Hub 2 to version 3 and had a BT man (engineer) visit to set it up. He did so with no problems on our PC (wired, runnning XP) and installed all relevant software on the PC and this is connected which so far has been fast (enough - as expected) and reliable. Once the 'main' computer in the house was connected we then tried to connect other things to the internet using this BT Hub 3.
However when attempting to connect our family laptop (running Vista) we hit trouble. Initially I tried to use the icon in the tray (bottom right of the screen) by clicking on connect to a network, then selecting our hub, then inputting the wireless key and going through the menus correctly. It would only connect 'locally' and not recognise the hub. It says identifying then says unidentified (public network BT Hub 3) and only 'local' access which I then change to private network. With my preivious internet I was able to set it up as Home network - now I can only choose between public or private BUT NOT Home, Work or Public.
So I then tried the BT disc that comes with the hub into the laptop. I go through the menus - it asks is the broadband light steady blue? Yes. Click next to continue wireless set up. So I press continue. It then asks for the wireless network/SSID BTHub3- numbers and letters and the wireless key. So I put that in correctly (double checking) and click next. It then says Connecting to your Hub which then gets ticked but then the checking wireless key doesn't tick - it crosses, and says failed. It asks me to check I typed the numbers and letters correctly (I am sure of that) and It goes to Manuel set up. Where I select my hub and again type in the wireless key and click next. But the same thing happens - connecting to your hub gets ticked but checking wireless key fails.
I then get a message that says i should do a wired set up, which I can do and works but on the laptop wired solutions is just not satisfactory - laptops need wireless connectivity. Is this a problem with my laptop, Vista or the hub/modem or a combination.
I also have been able to connect other things to the internet such as a netbook (running Windows 7) and a games console. Please comment if anthing needs explaining or more detail. Your help will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

John46: I uninstalled the Hub programmes you said to. I then tried to connect to a network (wirelessly - accessed either by going to Start - Connect to or from the icon in the tray (bottom right). I selected my hub and clicked connect. It does its thing and says 'successfully connected to...' I close that and go onto Network and Sharing Center and it shows its trying to identify the network and wait a few seconds it then shows 'unidentified network (public network)...' and that I have only got local access and so cannot surf the web.
As I mentioned in my earlier post:
With my previous Internet I was able to set it up as Home network - now I can only choose between public or private BUT not got the choice between Home, Work or Public.
    Hope I've explained myself.

  • Apple TV wifi connection to BT home hub 2 and Apple MacBook

Software update available when I switch on Apple TV tonight so I updated, TV restarted automatically and is only erratically connecting to router and when it does asks for network password.  I am quite new to Apple Mac but found my router details and put in the only password I have - an administrator password but that is not the one!!  I switched router off and on again - no result - looked at BT broadband help - no help.  Any ideas welcome please to a very new Apple Macbook user.

there are 3 passwords you can be asked for
wifi encryption password this is the password that make sure only people who you wish to can use your internet with your wifi this is set by you
appleID password this is to buy stuff using your apple account
shared itune lib password if you have a computer and share it's conetent then you can set a password (this is don in itunes on the computer)

  • Can't connect to the App store, iTunes and software update with MBP 13

    Hi,
I have a MBP 13 from 2011 and I have a really annoying problem with connecting it to the App Store, iTunes and the software update. It claims that I have no internet/wifi/network, although I clearly have it since I am watching series through Netflix and are on Facebook at the same time. So naturally I started to look in to the firewall and it works fine, since it does not and has never blocked any other Apple products/programs. So I continued looking everywhere in the computer, found nothing. And finally I decided to re-install the MBP and I still cannot connect to neither of these programs.
I feel that it is really unnecessary to hand the MBP in for service for a problem like this, so I was wondering if there is someone out there who has a solution to this problem? Beacue , as I mentioned earlier, my internet/wifi is working perfectly with everything else, so I really do not understand why App Store, iTunes and the software update does not work.

    Hello there, Victoria Nisoho.

  • Unable to connect to network with Safari and Software Update

A user I support has encountered a problem with networking. He is unable to connect to the network with Safari and Software Update, but IS able to connect and surf with Foxfire and some other programs. Another unusual symptom is that he actually can connect to one web site (which is in his Bookmarks Bar) with Safari, but can't connect to anything else. He's also unable to navigate off of that one site he connects to. When he runs Network Diagnostics, he gets all green lights (no problems). He has fixed permissions, deleted Safari Cache and .plist, rebooted - not fixed yet. He's using 10.4.8 on a PowerPC G4. Any ideas appreciated (this is the wierdest I've seen in a while!).

Here's what he did. After reading your post, he created another location in his network preferences, entering EXACTLY the same info that was in his old location (he even used the old DNS addresses), except using a new location name. Then he chose the new location and "everything worked". It's one of life's great mysteries. Thanks for your help - it is appreciated.

    Hi,
I am currently replying to this as it shows in the iChat Community.
I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

  • Home Hub 3 and 4 Connections Limit ?

Hi All i am very much hoping there is someone expert on issues such as number of connections allowed and home hub interconnecting.
First things first.  I had a home hub 3 and it kept on dropping the signal.  it went on for several months and many calls to Bangladesh.  Very often the problem was fixed and all reunning perfect ...... for a few days sometimes even a week or so.  Then it was back to This page cannot be displayed or 'No Internet' in the wifi connection window.
At the beginning the hub would show fault ie the red light would start to flash.  I also had a terible phone line with a lot of crackle.  One of the 'remote fixes' seemed to cure this and from then on the blue light was always on and for a while the signal remained ok.  then it bagan to drop intermittently.
i also have a connection to a remote part of the garden and run a 40 meter Cat 5 cable from a port on the new homehub4 up to the homehub 3 at the other end.  When i connect this, the home hub3 in the garden receives Internet no porblem but i loose it at the main hub.  no faults are reported and the signal is said to be excellent and 'Internet Access ' is usually displayed.
i can often get the first page but then clicking any links gives a page with cannot connect to this page please check the name etc.  if i unplug the lead going down the garden to the homehub3 I get ful connection back.
I think there is more than one problem but for now i just want to fix this bandwidth sharing issue.  Surely i should not loose connection as soon as i connect to a slave hub down the garden?  it does come and go after then and i will receive the odd batch of email but it is disconnected 80% of the time.
Anyone any idea what sort of a problem this is?  if it is bandwidth, can i set a limit on how much will go the the slave homehub3?  or can i set priority to the homehub4?  or even to a specific IP address ie my laptop?
both hubs use dhcp so i did wonder if there was conflict of IP addresses but i dont see how this can be because my connection comes and goes whereas theremote homehub3 stays perfect connection for skype etc.
Another very interesting aspect was that when i would drop out on the new hub, i could connect to BT WiFi with Fon and got a connection no problem.  Yet that connection must be supplied by my homehub4 so how can it supply me through wifi with fon no problem but not a direct wifi connection when i an literally 2 feet from the router?
that element has now vanished because the Bangladesh team finally decided it was the new router and sent an engineer to test it.  he concluded it was the router and changed it for one he had with him butthis one does not give any signal for btwifi with fon so I am scr___d !
absolutely anything appreciated.  I was an IT professional for many years so dont be shy to use technical terms.
    Thanks in advance

Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power to it for 30 seconds.

If you have connected to other wi-fi successfully, then your wi-fi should be working. Try power cycling the router. Disconnect it from power for about 30 seconds and then restart it. After it has come back, try connecting again.

  • Fed up with resetting my BT Home Hub 3 and it's so...

I keep having to reset my BT Home Hub 3 because of problems with wireless connections.
The Hub is close to all the equipment.
I have lots of things connected to it:
    -          iPhones - Slow not much better that 3G
    -          Blackberrys
    -          Macbook - Very fast
    -          2 Dell Laptops - Slow
    -          New model Panasonic TV – Viera ST50 Series – Has Wireless inbuilt – New this year - Slow + buffering problems
    -          Sky Box connected via Netgear WN2000RPT Wifi Range Extender - Slow + buffering problems
    -          Hard wired PC - Very fast
All worked fine with my old Netgear Router (before I changed to BT).
When I first had this Hub (it’s my 2nd) all was OK for a couple of weeks.
After a while (usually a few days after resetting BT Home Hub) the older Dell Laptop will keep losing its connection.   Once the problem starts the laptop might last for 5 or 10 minute intervals, lose connection and then automatically reconnect, etc, etc.
I'm will to accept that the Laptop is old, but when the Laptop is playing up the TV plays up too.    The Internet on the TV’s also fails.
The answer is to reboot the BT Home Hub.   The Laptop and TV are then both OK (for a few days).
I’m getting fed up with resetting the Hub.   Especially as it has dropped out while watching online TV.
All the other devices appear OK (maybe slow but remain connected).   Only the older laptop and the TV actually lose connection.   But resetting the BT Hub fixes the problem for a few days.   So the hub is at fault.
Recently I’ve been getting other problems.   Now whenever I need to reset the BT Home Hub I need to disconnect the Netgear WN2000RPT.   If I don’t  disconnect the Netgear the BT Home Hub appears to start up and connect OK and everything appears to connect to the Hub OK.  But then none of the Internet content works.   Websites don’t work, TV reports no content.
Now whenever I reset the BT Home Hub I must first turn off the Netgear WN2000RPT.   Previously this never used to be a problem.
In case compatibility with the Netgear WN2000RPT is an issue I now usually leave it unplugged.   I only turn it on for Internet content from Sky.
But the problems described above continue even when Netgear WN2000RPT is turned off.
When playing up the Laptop sometimes shows “Unsecure Connection”.  I wonder if it’s picked up the BT FON connection (but it shows the normal connection).    I suspect the start of the problems may have coincided with the activation of BT FON on the box (could this have taken 2 weeks?).   I’m sure that it was BT FON that completely broke my first BT Home Hub 3, we had had it about a week, then wifi would not connect from anything, after hours on the phone to BT support we could not establish a wireless connection to the Hub, but strangely all was OK on the FON connection.
    We have BT Infinity.
Hub is generally slow.   Wired Internet is lightning fast.   New Macbook (using Chrome) via wifi is lightning fast.   Everything else disappointingly slow.   TV and Sky both have buffering issues.
    Any ideas?

The HH3 has the ability to hop around the various Wireless Channels (of which there are 14, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels for indepth info) to enable the hub to pick the best channel for you, taking into account any cordless phones, mobile phones, microwaves etc, all of which could interfere with your wireless signal.
By reseting you HH3 you are forcing it back to its factory default channel (Channel 7 I guess).  Over a period of days, the HH3 may decide that its default channel isn't the most appropriate and select another channel based on what interference it 'sees'- clearly if it gets this wrong (as my HH3 did) then you potentially get wireless reception issues.
Consequently, I decided to manually find out what the best channel was by install a wireless scanner (free @ http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/), then:
    1.  Manually change the HH3 Channel (via its settings)
    2.  Check the wireless reception 'power' using inSSider installed on the laptop around your house, ie next to your TV etc.
    3.  When you find the channel that gives you the best wireless reception, tell the HH3 to remain on that Channel by disabling the 'Smart Wireless' feature (there's some info on this @ http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32236/~/how-do-i-change-the-wireless-channel-on-my-bt...)
As I say, my HH3's range was useless until I forced it to stick to a set Channel, now I have reliable coverage all around the house.  Hope this is some help.

how do I stream NFL mobile app from my S4 to my tv using chrome cast?

Get an AirPort Express.  It has an audio out which you can connect to the line-in on your home theatre system.  All the other devices will talk to the AirPort Express and stream content to it via wi-fi.

  • Wifi connection issues with Home Hub 5

Hi can any body help because I am starting to get very frustrated with the Home Hub 5 and it's wireless connection.
infinity 2 was installed at my house in the beginning of September, everything worked Ok for three weeks then for no apparent reason the hub kicked out all of my wireless devices (phones, kids iPods, tablets etc) at 6:45 one morning. When I got home from work I rang BT and was told to perform a Pin reset. This seemed to work but less tham 48 hours later at exactly the same time in the morning the hub kicked out all of my devices again, this time I just pressed the restart button on the top of the hub and everything reconnected but the Wifi range within my house had dropped. A few days later the hub kicked all my devices out again (each time it has done this the light on the hub has remained blue showing it is supposedly working OK)
One evening this week the hub of its own accord cycled through all the colours of lights indicating problems and that it was restarting. Today at 10:15 the hub kicked all my Wifi devices out again. I have contacted BT every time this has happened and told them about the poor range of the Wifi signal.
I do not want to be restarting/resetting my Hub every couple of weeks i need a permanent solution.
One of the reasons I switched from TalkTalk to BT when fibre became available was the fact that the Home Hub 5 was supposed to be the best provided router by any of the networks, being the only one that is an AC class router. The thing costs £130 if you want to by one. Quite frankly the £60 TP-Link dual band router I bought when I was with TalkTalk had a better range and was more stable. I would switch back to that if I knew BT's router settings (but they like to keep that a secret)
I really am beginning to regret switching from TalkTalk. Please someone restore my faith in BT.
Sorry for the lengthy rant but I hope you can understand why I've ranted for so long.
    Nick

    Hi imjolly
Sorry its taken a while to reply to your post.
I wanted to try BT's latest attempt at a solution before i tried your idea.
Since your reply the Home Hub 5 has dropped the Wifi connection to my devices another three times.
The second time less than 30hours after BT's so called fix, which was to make sure the 5Ghz channel was not syncing with the 2.4Ghz channel. Tonight it went again and BT's response was to take the router out of smart channel selection and manually select channel 9,6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 36,40,44 or 48 on 5Ghz. Well I havent even bothered with that, if the prats at BT would look at their records they would see they have already suggested that.
This HH5 is the most unreliable piece of garbage i have ever had the misfortune to use. WHY OH WHY did I leave TalkTalk
I have tonight tried your solution. Fingers crossed that this works.

  • Issues with Gagabit connection on BT Home Hub 3.0

I did post this is the BB Other Forum, but got no reply, maybe someone can answer it in this one.
I have just received a BT Home Hub 3.0 to replace my old HH 1.0
I have connected the hub up and 'assumed' that if I plug port 4 into my existing gigabit home network everything would work simple.  However this is not the case.
My existing ;working' home network has the following
    1 x PC
    1 x Laptop
    1 x N.A.S
These are all connected by a 5 port Netgear Switch (GS605) they all have the yellow light to say they are at gigabit speed.
When I plug the HH 3.0 into the swtch, the light only comes up as orange (100mps).  I have tried changing cables, but still the same result.
However, if I connect the PC directly to the HH 3.0 then my Local Area Connection says it is connected at 1.0Gbps.
When connected to the switch, my connection through the HH 3.0 is very slow, but when connected directly to the HH 3.0 it is running at speeds I previously had.
I have disconnected all items from the switch, powered down the HH 3.0 and connected it on its own.  The yellow (1Gbps) light flashes for a while and then changes to orange.
    Can anyone advise?
    Regards
    Trevor

I have tired connecting just the HH 3.0 to the Netgear Switch with cables that I know work at 1 Gbps and into all the ports.  Resetting the HH 3.0 on several occasions.
Each time the light flashed yellow and then turned to orange.  I know the switch works as I have green lights when known Gbps items are connected, eg, PC, Laptop and NAS.
When I connect my PC directly to the HH 3.0 in the Gbps my network connection comes up as 1 Gbps.
It is just when I connect the HH to the switch.
When I go to the Home Network setting on the HH I have the following.  The hub is connected to the switch on ethernet port 2
PC connected at 1000 Mbps (directly to the Gbps on the home hub)
BT Vision connected at 100 Mbps (directly to port 1 on the home hub)
Laptop connected at 100 Mbps (connected to the switch) but is showing as 1 Gbps on the switch.
NAS connected at 100 Mbps (connected to the switch) but is showing as 1 Gbps on the switch.
    Any further ideas?
    Regards
    Trevor

  • Time Capsule won't connect to BT Home Hub

I have just moved house and have set up a new BT Home hub today.
The internet is working as is the wireless printer but I want to be able to connect the Time Capsule to the BT internet network in order to make back ups.
I have gone through Airport Utility and downloaded the 6.0 software but it is still not connecting.
Any ideas on where I am going wrong? Do I have to create a new netowrk?
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thank you

Connect to the homehub directly so you can download the utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Once you have it downloaded.. plug the TC directly into the iMac by ethernet.. No other connections.. no wireless on the imac. Turn it off so the only active network is ethernet.
Press and hold the reset for 10sec. When the TC restarts it should come up on the iMac at default settings..
Start the manual setup on the 5.6 utility.
    Go to internet tab.
Go to connection sharing.. select off bridged mode. Update the TC.
Then plug the TC back into the home hub.. it should now be accessible by ethernet or wireless from the imac.
Post the details of homehub IP and TC ip if it doesn't work.

  • BT Home HUB 5a and Yosemite

    HI fellow Brit Telecom clients:
This is a post I just filed on the main Yosemite wifi discussion thread.
    STARSHIP YOSEMITE CAPTAINS LOG:
    You wrote:
British Telecom (BT) HomeHub dual-band routers use the same SSID and password for both bands by default. When I initially installed a Homehub 5 (the version with a bulit-in modem), I was getting lots of disconnections with my iMac. I then set each band to have a separate SSID and password, and set the iMac to use the 2.4 Ghz band as its preferred Network. I also set the wireless channel to avoid other channels in my areas as much as possible.
I too was getting lots of disconnections using my MBPro only 5 feet away.  Eventually engineer came out ?October - whilst on Mavericks - and said the firmware hadn't updated properly and it should be ok.  It was better but not brilliant
My previous posts above refer post - Yosemite to my naming the 2 SSIds separately and much later (Jan 12)  separate passwords (in both cases first deleting the networks in Systems pref)
Late November I swapped my HDD for an SSD (fantastic!) but wifi issues continued (as one might expect except that I had done a Recovery over internet and wasn't sure if there had been some initial improvement)
I joined seed testing Dec 18 so have to be circumspect now:
My recommendation to users of the BT dual-band Homehubs who are experiencing disconnection problems is, first of all, turn off the 5 Ghz band and see if you get any improvement (turning off the band means that you won't have to change any settings on your iMac or any other devices)
I have not tried turning off 5 ghz.  My 2.4 ghz connection has always been more consistent since Dec 18.  The problem with 5ghz has been a request for the password then the resulting error message "Invalid password"  I have seen little change in this since Dec 18 BUT....
having discovered delights of alt/option key+click on wifi icon I find that if try to connect to 5ghz it works - no request for password usually or if it does it accepts it  This happened for first time Dec 21.  Significance of this date is that some people on other fora - BTCare Community for one - believe the firmware upgrade from BT is significant but my hub didn't update until Jan 17.
But I have jumped ahead a little:I was away from home much of Dec 23 - Jan 2. In 2 different locations I had no wifi connection issues - one was in K-U-Hull who have a local telecoms outfit called Kingston Communications - no issue on the dual band width hub, and next i was connecting via an apple airport to BT broadband.  On return to London Jan 2, unable to connect to 5ghz as usual, and whilst running wireless diagnostic, it connected auto to 2.4
Was away / ill for period Jan 7 - 11 so no log of any importance
Jan 12 changed 5ghz password to different to 2.4 (see above) Still couldn't get past "invalid password"
Jan 14 I got a "no internet connection" in safari but hub blue light steady.  I followed advice on BT forum or BT support? to try and find a  better channel and switched both manually 2.4: from 11 to 13 and 5: from 44 to 40.  i.e. Smartwirless off.  I was auto connected to 2.4 ghz (which BTW is one of the more confusing things to me as nearly all the advice messages in the WD reports on the Mac refer to problems with 2.4 and recommend switching to 5...)   SUCCESS! immediate connection to 5ghz with no password request.  Was able to switch back and forth between networks and ethernet - all stable and easy to connect.  Tried to disrupt it by adding iPhones and mini iPads and switching them between 2.4 and 5 - no problem!  For not the 1st time since downloading Yosemite I thought "YES! cracked it, I am now a right-on Mac user"  Ha.....
Later that day I also discovered the delights of paid app "wifi Explorer" (and even more recently - today - for free in menu Wireless Diagnostics>window>performance, scan, sniffer which, maybe not as prettily as w-exp, allow you to see all networks in reach, their channel, signal strength, MBPS etc etc  Ooooh very exciting! And illuminating because it showed me that my hub/router was the only one using these two channels but like you I am a FON subscriber so there were 3 networks on each channel: me, BTwifiX and BT wifi with FON.  I knew this because I each time i switched channels on my hub these 2 came with me.  Elsewhere on BTCARE forum i read that attempts to "resign" FON membership typically takes 28 days to take effect - did your experience as reported here take that into account?   My personal experience is that turning off the FON service (allowing a small part of the router bandwidth to be used as a semi-public hotspot) has noneffect at all,on connectivity issues. By the way, turning off FON means that you then cannot use any other of the enormous number of other FON routers as access points when you are away from home.
Like you I would prefer to hang onto FON if at all possible.
On Jan 15 awaking from sleep it connected to 2.4 ghz automatically (a ? should wifi stay connected whilst asleep? rejoin the network it was on when it went to sleep?)  Tried to switch to 5ghz - initially connected then the old password request/invalid routine  Connected whilst running Wireless Diagnostics - only connected briefly then dropped.  INTERESTINGLY the WD report for the first time mentioned systems pref Network  "Location not set to auto"  Reset, tried to connect - no change.
Jan 16 upgraded to Yos latest seed
A restart of the router (I actually switched it off/on thats how incompetent I am) and I had the best day's connection since ever...
Jan 17 on awake very disappointed to see "Time Machine not ejected properly" for the 1st time for a while - not sure when that stopped appearing) and couldn't connect to 5.  AND the hub repeatedly showed Red light and of course Safari kept complaining "no internet connection"  Look at the date... I discovered the next day that my hub firmware was updated.  After I restarted router had a very stable evening  It awoke at one stage, auto connected to 2.4, and Time Machine had run, no error message about not ejecting properly.
Jan 18 on awake - likewise Good. After easy connect to 5 ghz it didn't hold. Couldn't reconnect even with WDiag running.  AAAAgh!!
Tried going back to Smartwierless ON in Hub - no diff.  Reset router. Restarted Mac. Auto started on 2.4.  SUCCESSFUL switch to 5 with WDiag dunning. Channel was same as before SMART wireless
During the day I disconnected ethernet (ha, cocky now!)  and although wi-fi connection lost after 1 hour it reconnected itself. Stayed connected for next 2 hours during TM run too.
Jan 19 today - ethernet still disconnected. On waking usual 2.4 connection TM had run, no eject message.  But attempting 5ghz connection WITH wireless dig running - fail! (password invalid)  Gloom.  But having read some interesting links last night - will post separately - I applied my new knowledge of Wireless Diag>window>scan, performance etc  and found 2 channels nobody was using with good signal etc With WD still running attempted 5ghx z connection SUCCESS (but why?!) . Anyway  I swapped to the unused channels - 2, 36 and after one little landing on a comet bounce and disconnect, I reconnected and it has been stable since.  300 MBPS rock solid. Signal strength a little variable, Noise more variable, Ratio up and down btw 35 - 40
I cannot pretend to understand much of what I am reporting but I hope it makes sense to someone and I hope I am not in breach of my NDA...this seems to me to be mostly a BT issue not Yos.
    Happy connections!

    Hi all
Since our last update we’ve been busy rolling out configuration changes to the affected BT Home Hub 5As. We really sorry if you’ve continued to experience performance issues
The reason some people may be still seeing issues is that we have had to make some extra changes to the fix we’re sending out based on feedback from our customer test group. This means it is taking a little longer to deploy the fix and for you to see the improved performance.
We are working around the clock to ensure it is done asap, please leave your BT Home Hub on to ensure it receives the fix.
