Connecting directly to digital camera?

Can the IPOD touch directly download pics from a digital camera? I don't like to lug around a laptop or even a netbook to back up pictures from my camera. If the Itouch can be used to do that, I'd be in heaven, because I want a new MP3 player too.
I saw a link to the manual, and it doesn't look like it. But I know there are untold apps for the Itouch, was hoping someone developed something.
Any nudge in the the right direction is appreciated.

No way to do that with the iPod Touch, but the iPad will be able to do so.

  • Downloading photo directly from digital camera to zen microph

Is it possible to download photos from my digital camera to my zen microphoto without my computer? Or is there another (small) hardward that would work? I'm traveling to asia and would like to store my photos but I'm not taking my computer.

I don't think it's possible to do it with a Creative player, but I've seen a few relati'vely low-cost portable hard disks that transfer directly from a camera or flash card.
Another possibility is just buy one or more large ( GB+) memory cards for your camera.

  • Can CameraWindow on iPhone connect directly to a camera like N100 without a separate wifi network?

On the app store page for CameraWindow, it says "You can either connect the camera directly to the device (set the camera as a simplified access point)"
Does this mean if I'm in the field with no access to a wifi network, there would be a way to connect a camera directly to an iphone and transfer photos with CameraWindow?
I just want to make sure of this before I buy a camera.

    Hi,
Camera Window will only work with Canon camera's, but yes you can connect it in one of two ways, via a wifi hotspot created on your phone, or a peer to peer on the camera (if it supports it).

  • How do i get video from my sony hx100 digital camera to my mac? after connecting the camera via the supplied usb cable, iMovie shows icons for 5 videos, but none will load.

i've connected the camera to the mac using the supplied usb cable. imovie shows 5 icons for videos but all of them have the red circle with slash through them and the box to import them is grayed out.

Get a nice Sony miniDV camcorder. It is not too expensive; it is small and easy to carry around to shoot your video. Most importantly, it will be instantly compatible with iMovie. You don't have to install any software, just connect it via FireWire (Sony calls this iLink) and you are good to go!
I have had several Sonys and love them. You don't need one with fancy editing capabilities because you will edit your movies in iMovie. Just be sure that it has AV In and Out so you can import and export back to the camcorder.
My current version is the small DCR HC-26. There are newer versions of that HC-30something and 40something. Look at the specs on Sony's website
Some of them require the use of a dock to import and export. I am not really fond of that feature. I like just connecting directly to the camera.

  • When I connect my digital camera to my iPad it will only download the stills, not the videos. How can I download the videos? I have the USB and HDMI connectors for the iPad.

When I connect my Leica digital camera to my iPad it will only download the photos not the videos. How can I download the videos anyone please?

If your camera has an SD memory card, use the camera connection kit & the SD card to download to the iPad. That's what I do.
Another way that will work. Download the video(s) to your computer. Then you can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
First, Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie file into the folder. The movie file must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie file should appear & you can import.

  • Connecting to Digital Camera - Problems

When I connect the fifth gen ipod to the fujifilm digital camera it downloads the pictures with no problem, I copied 4 compact flash cards to the ipod. I then connected a Sony digital camera to the ipod it said it had finisheddownloading the pictures but when I checked the ipod all including the fujifilm pictures had disappeared!!
Now when I connect the ipod to the camera it says there are no pictures on the card when clearly there are! The only way around this is to format the ipod!
Has anyone come across this problem?

Reset Your iPod and try again, you've probarbly just had a glitch!

  • Do thumbnails show in Bridge CS5 if connected directly from a DSLR (via USB cable)?

I have a D90 and none of my thumbnails for my files show in Bridge CS5 when connected directly from the camera. This includes ALL types of files (JPEG, NEF, etc). It shows the thumbnails when I use a card reader though. Is this common with DSLRs?

If you have—misguidedly and unfortunately—done that already, first back up the image files on your computer, then immediately format the card in the camera, which will erase everything in the card and format it to a fresh, pristine state.
What ever possessed you to do a thing like that?
Had you done that to the card containing the raw files you can't open?
Do not be fooled by what the camera shows you anyway. The preview you see in the back of the camera when chimping* is not a preview of your raw file at all, but of the embedded JPEG that the camera creates right after you shoot and records inside your raw file.  The histogram it shows you in the camera is not based on the raw data at all either, but on said embedded JPEG.
The same is true when you review or playback the images later on the LCD display in the back of the camera.
*Chimping is a colloquial term used in digital photography to describe the habit of checking every photo on the camera display (LCD) immediately after capture.
The phrase is most likely derived from comparison between the sounds and actions some make while reviewing images and those of an excited primate (Oooh! Oooh! Aaah!), or when a photographer is completely absorbed in the act of analyzing, admiring or proudly displaying a shot to others.

  • Interfacing java application with digital camera

    Dear all,
I've a question and I need your help.
I've my swing/javafx application and I need to interface it with a digital camera.
How should I proceed? How can I understand which digital camera offers support for java integration?
Do you have some model for me?
    Thanks

I don't know anything about using Java directly with digital cameras. However I have a few observations. When you say you want to interface Java with a digital camera, do you mean you just want to display the image in a Java application? If so, you can use the software that came with the digital camera to download the images as *.jpeg (or whatever) to the hard disk. Then you can use Java to easily read the files from the hard disk and display them or move them to some other location. For instance, when you display them in Java, then you can then ask the user to fill out various textfields to go along with the image such as giving a title to the image or a description.
If instead you want to write Java to grab the images from the camera directly, I think that's a bad idea. I imagine different digital cameras have uniquely written custom software to communicate between the digital camera and say, Windows 7 (I'm guessing). I doubt all the manufacturers have agreed upon a common way to communicate. Therefore if you take this route, you will end up creating a large set of Java programs to communicate with each model of camera. A maintenance nightmare.
However, I have seen applications such as taking passport photos that appear to communicate directly with a digital camera wired to the computer which I imagine the vendor supplied with the application.

  • Is it possible to upload photos directly from a digital camera to the Zen Sle

    Hello
My girlfriend and I are going to South America. Therefore, I am not only looking for a MP3-player, but also a place to store photos. The Zen Sleek court my attention.
Though, I would like to know whether it is possible to upload photos directly from a digital camera to the Zen Sleek? Does it require any extra cables or software? Or is it only possible to store photos through a ordinary computer and then transfer photos to the harddisc on the Zen Sleek?
    Regards
    Mads Lyngby Petersen

Short answer, I've never seen anyone try it.
Long answer, it might be possible using one of these USB bridge devices. Some of these devices are supposed to be able to bridge between a camera and a USB mass storage device, and then deal with hosting the connection and moving/copying the files.
I would be intruiged to know if someone's managed it, but as mentioned so far I've not seen anyone mention it.

  • Connect Digital Camera to iPhone (3G)

Can I directly connect my digital camera (with USB) to iPhone? If yes, how? If not, why not?
I don't want to have my Mac with me on holiday to get my photos on my iPhone to send them to my friends...
    Thanks!

If you are taking pics with your iphone you can email from there, but using a digital camera is better for quality. You can take the memory card to any walgreens or wal-mart and have a photo cd made and then make copies of that.

  • Connecting directly to camera

i have a panasonic dmc-fs3 digital camera and would like to use the ipod touch to download pictures when i am on a trip. since i am away from home i would most likely not have a computer to connect with and go thru the process of using itunes to download and upload etc. is there a way to connect the camera directly to the touch....or is there an accessory that will accomodate a direct connection? thanks much.

Thanks Dud...that's what I was afraid of. Teach me to buy something without really knowing all its capabilities. I'll still use it for all the other goodies. If I may, another question...can the touch be re-charged any other way than plugging into the computer?
Thanks again, and yes, I really am an old tech dummy.

  • IPhone connect to Digital camera or Eye-fi

Hi. Can I connect the iPhone to digital camera? If it is not possible, can I connect an eye-fi card to the phone? Thanks

I do not know of a way that iPhone and digital cameras can be connected (directly) at this time. However, Eye-fi has an application for the iPhone that will take iPhone photos and upload them over the internet to your computer. It works very well.
Eye-fi transfers photos wirelessly from the camera/SD card to your wireless router, then over the internet to an Eye-fi server and then down to you computer. This process works well, too.
Eye-fi comes with a USB adapter so that you can take the card out of your camera and "import" the photos to your computer
Eye-fi will transfer photos to iPhoto but you must select this feature thru your Eye-fi "account".
I wish Eye-fi connected directly to my computer over my local wifi network, but I could not determine how to do this.

  • PC shuts off when Ipod Touch is connected.  Detects "Digital Still Camera"

My Ipod Touch was working fine until today. I plugged it into my PC and then it detects it as a "digital still camera". Then after a few seconds my PC will completely shut down.
The weird thing is that once it restarts with the Ipod connected already it will detect it as an Ipod and Itunes will open and everything normally. If I then disconnect it and connect it again, it will be detected as a camera again and again shut down.
I've looked all over the inter for solutions. Most of them involve updating the driver. But I cannot update the driver unless the device is connected. And when the device is connected as a "digital still camera" it will shut down my computer.
I tried booting in safe mode and then connecting the Ipod Touch and it worked fine. It detected it as an Ipod and everything worked fine. My plan was to boot in safe mode and then update the driver but I couldn't because it detected it normally.
I would normally try turning off some services to see if something it bothering it but I don't want to ruin my computer by consistently shutting it down unexpectingly and giving me errors each time it reboots.
I've seen other people online with this problem but none with a solution. I would really appreciate some help. Thank you

Mine is doing the same thing,I got it 2 days ago worked fine but today everytime i plug in the desk top it will shut it down. I plug it to my lap top it worked but i'm affraid that it will do the same thing again after a while. I have a feeling that there is some problem with itunes, if my computer is the problem why did it work fine at the begining. When I uninstalled the itunes and plug the ipod it starts charging but the computer did not shut down. I did some research and it seems that a lot of people having the same problem.

  • Ive been to the ipod store multiple times and they seem to fix my problem every time while im there but once i get home its still there... the problem is that i connect my ipod to the computer and it shows up as a digital camera but wont show on the compu

so my ipod is not operating properly and im tryin to fix it and ive been to the genius bar twice now and when im there it seems like theyve gotten it to work but once i return home my ipod is unable to connect to itunes, the computer picks it up as a digital camera and i can not connect it to itunes... now honestly all i want to do is put some music on there, but the computer wont allow me to do that at all so any ideas?

    - Have you tried the troubleshooting here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - You can try disabling the camer notification
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500
    - Do you have any camera, scanner or similar software installed?  That may prevent iTunes from seeing the iPod.

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.
