Connecting external 56k modem to ISP

Hello,
I'm new with Solaris 10 and x86. I have a Sportster MessagePlus Pro V90 PnP
3com u.s. robotics (56k Professional Message Modem) attached to Com1 port. I'd want to connect this analogic modem to ISP for navigate.I read the guide System Administration Guide:
Network Services. I think I should make a dial-out connection, but I'm still confused. It seems that there are some different ways. Which method I have to adopt (ppp4.0, uucp etc...)?
If you have a procedure to follow I thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I never get the option to "Restore Previous History" from History. I don't even have the box checked that asks to delete the history when Firefox closes. I don't know what's wrong, no matter what, I always lose everything. I have the box marked "Show my windows and tabs from last time" for when I open Firefox, but it never shows that, just my homepage. Also, when I check my History, it only shows the pages that I opened since I started Firefox, nothing from before. Even if I were to open up 10 pages now, close Firefox, and open it, the history would only show the homepage that opened this time, not any of the 10 pages that I opened 5 minutes ago.

  • Internet connect for 56k modem

Have no access except by 56k modem.
Where can I find the download for this application? Please
    Robert

Am a bit confused - could you clarify please:
You can connect to the internet via 56k dialup?
That is the only way for you to connect?
Exactly which application do you wish to download?
If the first two assumptions correct, you are paying your ISP for internet access via phone dialup. If you want to connect via other means such as DSL or cable, you need to find an ISP who offers those services in your area.
Once you clarify and give us more facts, we can figure out if I misunderstood your question.

  • Unable to connect wireless print server while using wireless modem to ISP

Unable to connect an HP Laserjet 1320 thru the JetDirect ew2400 External Print Server to an imac G5 that uses the 2WIRE352 modem for ISP access thru ATT. Either the ISP is connected and works, or the printer works but no internet access. HP (after 1hr 15 min.) said I need to change/access the "infrastructure" in the OSX. Is that correct? & if so, how do I do this? Do I need to hire Apple Tech Support to do this? How much will that cost. I'm ready to send the Print Server back to HP for a refund.

I would post your issue in the Printing & Faxing forum area. More chance for some of the gurus like Greg Sahli to respond.

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

  • 56K Modem Problem (connection)

if i plugin the Airport Base Stations 56K modem into the Telephon, the telephon won´t work no more! I bought the Base Station for an Friend at eBay. There was no Modem Cable with it, so i grabed the old Cable from my G4.
    Powermac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I seem to recall reading that the original eMac, which were meant strictly for educational use in classrooms and such, didn't have a modem installed. Maybe you have an education model without the modem card?

  • Lync 2011 for MAC not connecting externally to On-Premise Lync 2013

    Hello,
Hopefully someone has some idea on this or a better direction for me to follow. So currently I have an issue where Lync 2011 for MAC clients will not connect when external to my On-Premise Lync 2013 servers. Everything to do with my Windows based clients
and even cell phone based client’s works just fine. It is currently only Lync 2011 for MAC which will not correct externally.
I did initially have the logon problem internally as noted by other posts online when using an internal CA certificate with Lync. But with the internal certificate imported onto the MAC when internally connected Lync 2011 will login just fine. Now in my
setup I do have a TMG server that clients are connecting to that forwards the connections onto my Lync servers when connecting externally. When I review live real time logs to see what’s connecting to the external URL for Windows based clients I can see them
connect in on port 443 no problem.
But with the MAC I don’t see any attempt from it to connect to the URL like I see with the Windows clients. Now below is what shows up in the Microsoft-Lync.log generated by the MAC. Now initially looking at the log I thought my problem was the fact when
Lync 2011 tires to connect when external that it was doing so on port 5061 which we don’t have open. So I tired entering external.mydomain.com:443 in for my external server in the setup.
And while rechecking the log after doing so shows like it is now trying to connect on port 443. When reviewing TMG I again see no connection attempt by the MAC to connect to the Lync external url or on port 443. Further research so far into the problem has
come up empty on the subject. And most other cases where people report problems connecting externally they are using some form of online service like Office 365. So at this point I am not even sure if Lync 2011 for MAC is supposed to work externally with On-Premise
Lync 2013 deployments or not. If anyone has an thought’s or idea’s please share them as at this point I am stuck on this issue.

    Hi Nicholas Sayewich,
I tested in my lab and without any problem.
I also use TMG as Reverse Proxy and without configuring SRV records (My ISP don’t support SRV), after importing the root certificate onto MacBook, I can sign into Lync everywhere(internal
    and external).
Please make sure that the certificate is set up to
    Always Trust .

  • Cisco 877W router and external ADSL modem

Cisco 877W router and external ADSL modem
In order to support ADSL2+ on a pre ADSL2+ router and in preparation for a later migration to BT infinity I am trying to configure the Router using an external adsl2+ modem appropriately.
The original configuration had 3 ports configured as one (internal lan) vlan and bridge group together with one wireless sub-interface, the remaining port configured a second vlan and bridge group with a second wireless sub- interface. The Dialer was a member of the second bridge group. This way the second wireless interface and associated bridge group provided a kind of DMZ for outbound access.
The configuration I am attempting is similar the lan ports remain the same, but port 0 as a member of the vlan and bridge group (now a pppoe client) associated with one of the wireless sub interfaces as per above. The ATM interface is downed. This nearly works except that if the wireless subinterface on this bridge group is configured the dialer no longer dials giving a 'no dialer string' error. If I do not configure that wireless sub interface all works well.
If anyone is interested to look I would appreciate any comments. I enclose a sanitised config in which you will note the 'commented out' wireless subnet interface (in red).

    Hi Jody,
Apologies delay in replying. I have done the following:
Made two of the FE ports vlan1,BVI1 (for LAN traffic)
Left one port as VLAN10 as the pppoe client conected to the externalmodem
Made the last port VLAN10 as well and gave it an IP addess as for a DMZ client.
I have DHCP configured to serve the DMZ  addresses.
This all works for LAN clients and also works for a client attachedto that physical DMZ port.
When I added a dot11radio sub interface into VLAN 10 the wireless client did not get an IP lease. Everything else continued to work.
I had never thought about this before, but if a dot11radio interface is on the same vlan (but not being part ofa bridge group) why are DHCP broadcasts not propogating to all the vlan members as I would have expected. I recognise that this isa limit in my understanding.
If I then made VLAN10 a member of a new Bridge Group, I lost WAN connectivity as per original posting.
I cannot add another VLAN due to the 2 vlan limit in this image.
Finally regarding your comment about giving it what it wants, what exactly did you have in mind. The dialer already has a dial string parameters configured.
Think I am about to give upon this.

  • Win XP Pro + Airport Extreme + 56k Modem

    Hi,
I just recently bought an Airport Extreme Base Station with the 56k modem with the intents of connecting my 12" G4 PowerBook and 12" G4 iBook (both 2005) to the internet via the 56k modem. For the record, both connect perfectly, always, no hassle. (Albeit a bit slow at 48000, and it takes 60 seconds to logon and 60 to logoff)
The catch here, is I have an IBM T42 ThinkPad (2005) that can see this Airport too. But I have not been able to find a way to turn the modem on and/or off using the IBM. I do know about the Jon Sevy java bit, I do have it downloaded -- BUT -- how does one go about installing this thing? It's a .JAR file.
I also saw a better 'dialer' here by a person posting as 'KewlDawg'(?) that also may have worked, but the link is dead.
I did manage to find a dialer called 'InModem 0.1.0' by Jason Barry Morley, but it often doesn't want to hang-up after a session.
So as you can see, I have trying to resolve this myself, but not very successfully. Anyone have a better solution for the WinXP world?
I'm so upset Apple didn't see fit to provide this themselves. What an undersight. I wanted to buy one of these for my Brother as he is a Windows only person and heavily uses dialup. Oh well, no sale there.
I look forward to all and any suggestions. Thanx in advance!

Bottom line? No! The standard for Gigabit Ethernet was set to work with CAT-5 cabling. CAT-5e, especially at the length you plan on using, will show no improvement. CAT-6 is designed for 10 GBps networking.

    Hi guys!
Im here in poor Brazil, and I just bought a new DSL-500B external ADSL modem, and I can make this machine turn to router, to stop login every time I turn on the computer.
The manual says that the IP is 192.168.254.254, but Firefox and Safari cant "see"... I ping, and cant find... I tracerout to a google site and the modem dont appear, its invisible!
Im properly conected on web... But I have this little problem...
I dont know what to do...
    Please good people, help me!
    Thanks,

    Nothing, mate...
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.1.
    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

  • Need better external dialup modem

I have a software called Meditech by Cambridge Computer Corporation that allows me to connect to my hospital computer system via a dialup modem. The Mac version of this software does not appear to work with the newer Mac modems, either the one built into my G5 iMac or the Apple external USB modem I bought for my new Macbook. When the software dials in, I get the tradition modem sound but then it hangs on the whirlybird type sound and nothing happens. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a different external modem that might work? I also have installed Parallels and tried to connect on the Windows side with the Windows version of this software but have been unable to make that happen either.

I have tried connecting at home via an Apple External Modem with my new Macbook, with the same whirlybird sound. So neither the built-in internal modem on my G5 iMac and the external Apple USB modem with my new Macbook are able to connect this software. I have a G3 iBook at home which is able to connect this software without any difficulty. That is why I figured the newer Apple modems may be different and problematic. I tried installing the Windows version of this Meditech software on the Windows side of my Parallels desktop, but cannot get the Apple external modem to show up. I bought an inexpensive Trendnet external USB modem and that didn't work either. I seem to recall that I spoke with Cambridge about this and they thought it might be a problem with the newer Apple modem. They are not highly motivated to fix the Mac side of this issue.

  • Problem connecting to DSL modem

Just finished a long session with QWest that ended with me unable to connect to my new DSL modem. Apparently there's a problem with the IP configuration settings because everything works but the computer can't find/recognize/connect with the modem. The address, subnet, router, DNS numbers QWest provided don't work. They said I had to call Apple and verify the IP configuration. But Apple doesn't answer on weekends. Is there a way to resolve this now, or do I have to wait until Monday?

    yumbeerium...
    Got the right cable?
This is assuming that you are connecting it via - Ethernet port, you may need a Crossover cable if the modem did not come with one.
By the way... I wonder just how Apple can help you with settings that are to be provided by the ISP? Although I believe most ISPs can use DHCP settings, you may need to ask QWest if manual settings are really necessary.

  • Connection dropping WRT54G on two ISP shaw cable and Telus Adsl

Hi, hope someone could help me fix this problem i have been having for over 5 months now.
Randomly my internet connection on both my wireless and wired computers will drop and i cannot access the internet OR the router setup page (192.etc...) unless i power cycle the modem.  when this happens my wired computer reports that it is still connected to my network but the speed has dropped to 1mbps.  when directly connected to the modem i have no problems
my router is a wrt54G v8 (just updated the firmware) currently i am using telus as my ISP
I have spent HOURS on the phone with linksys support staff.  i have done everything including:
    changing the standard IP adress
playing with the MTU size and reducing it to as low as 1200
    adjusting the fragmentation threshold\
    adjusting the RTS threshould
changing the connection type from automatic (DHCP) to a PPPoE but when trying to connect on the status page the router replies "could not get an IP adress from ISP" even after a full powercycle
the only thing i have tried cloning the mac adress but when i do this Telus's sign up page (enter username and password) appears which leads me to their setup page IE no internet connection.  however i could be doing this wrong.
I have read that putting a hub between the router and the modem works
Please does anyone have suggestions or fixes??!!?? linksys is going to replace my router but i would like to try and fix it first.

hi...you should try putting a hub in between the modem and the router .. it helps sometimes....

  • 56k modem ribbon torn + handles are broken

    Alright,
I purchased a computer from so no good online. He sent me the old G3 Blue and White, with it it has a 56k modem on the motherboard. The cable connecting it to the motherboard was torn. How do i replace the ribbon, maybe without the entire new modem? Secondly, When the joker sent me the computer, it was dropped, meaning the handles were broken. Is there a cheap way to get new handles for it. There may not be any way to get this to work, but I figured someone out there would know something.
    Thanks

    Hi, Rowdie Man -
One place to look is (of course) eBay.
You can also get repacement parts at places like WeLovemacs -
