Connecting external antenna to 6310i

Hello there, I'm hoping someone can help me with a little info. I have a very poor signal in my workshop, but I have an old Nokia 6310i which has an external aerial socket.
RS used to sell a short lead which converted the nokia port to a "standard" type connector.
Can anyone tell me where I can get the short lead I have described, and what sort of aerial, ie what "gain" I can use.
The intention is to put the aerial outside on a post, high up, I think you use 50ohm cable? Can anyone confirm this?
Then I can use a blue tooth ear piece to recieve calls. Well the the theory anyway. Any advice would be very welcome. Many thanks Baz

Couplers are very sensitive lo location.
Depending on the type of coupler there are "near field" couplers and so called "far field" couplers.
Most consumer couplers are near field as they are simpler and cheaper. They require that the antenna is almost touching the coupler. Also the orientation matters a lot, as the RF signal is polarized (trust me unless you are a telecom engineer you don't want to know).
Lastly couplers tend to have a significant loss of signal, the loss of signal could be greater than the gain the antenna provides, thus nullifying the effect of gain. But since the antenna can be located in a better place there are other benefits.
What antenna are you using to test it?, antenna gain is also important. Some antennas require a ground plane (or metal plate) to be effective. Antennas come in Unigain, 3, 5, 9 12 dB, etc. But they are also sensitive to where they are pointing and how they are installed. Antennas of the type that have two parts and go through your car windows tend to not be very good.
There are some antennas that are "elevated" they have an extra part, this part makes it so that they don't need a ground plane or reflective plane to work well.
Yagi antennas are highly directional so you have to be pointing exactly where the base station is in order to get any gain. The length of cable you use and the connectors is also very important, you can loose more signal in long cables with poor connectors that what you gain with the antenna.

I have poor coverage at home (all networks), and am using a car kit antenna to boost the signal on my 6310i.
I want to upgrade to a Symbian 60 handset, probably Nokia N70, but as far as I can see, there is no external antenna connection point.
Is one of the pins in the POP Port a proper antenna connection? If not, can you suggest an alternative Symbian 60 model which has an external antenna connection point.
I read also about acoustic couplers, but never seen or used one. I wd be grateful for comments on their efficacy, I am doubtful whether an indirect connection will give me the boost I need.

The new pop port cradles do not have the same hard wired connection like on your 6310I, it uses a passive repeat system which transmits into the back of the phone, these are not as good as the old type but it mainly depends on what type of antenna you have on the car & where it is mounted.

When I use a GSI external antenna for WiFi I first get a message that "Firefox is already running but not responding etc", and then Firefox crashes. Can anyone help please?

Because of weak WiFi signal I need to use an external antenna (GSI USB wireless WIFI long range network adapter). My computer can see the signal clearly and shows that I am connected to the right network. But when I try to launch Firefox I get a message that "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." When I click "OK" Firefox tries to load websites but gives up and reports "Problem Loading". It looks like Firefox is having trouble "seeing" the signal from the external antenna. What do I need to do please?

Try Ubuntu support, I don't think your problem is with Firefox - it will use the connection that the Operating System "makes". I'm a real noob with Ubuntu myself, and don't think I can help you figure out the problem.

Has anyone had any success with an external antenna on a UMW190?

Although I am getting good service from my UMW190 without an external antenna, I am in a low signal area and would like to have rock solid coverage.
I have tried a 1900Mhz yagi, a blade antenna, an omni, and a grid antenna. I am not seeing any difference in signal strength at all regardless of whether or not an antenna is connected and which way it is pointed. I have also tried two different pigtails form two different sources, and even borrowed a second UMW190 and tried it, all with no success. I know exactly where the tower serving my house is located, but I did try each of the directional antennas in a full 360 degree circle, stopping every few degrees to see if the RSSI improved. I tried both polarities too, although I understand it should be vertical.
When I contacted Verizon customer support they had very little information about it. I contacted Pantech, and they told me that support for this device is now handled by UTstarcom. UTStarcom told me that support for this device is now handled by Personal Communication Devices. When I contacted them the response was (and I quote) "We don't have any information on any external antenna support of our devices".
So I throw myself on the mercy of the Gurus here in the forum.
Am I missing something obvious? Is there a command that "activates" the external antenna connector? Does the connector even have anything connected to it inside the modem?
Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated!

Usually the external antenna works best where service is obstructed by certain materials and the external antenna is placed in a different area . If the signal is steady for the external antenna and the UMW190 in the area where you are using the devices, that would be the general signal strength of that area.

Need external antenna connector for old Nokia 5110...

Hi all, this is a long shot I admit, but doesn anyone know what type of connector (and where to purchase) was used on the old 5110/6110 Nokia phones, it is the external connector located on the rear behind the rubber grommit use for the car kits... I need some of those connectors.
Can anyone help?

I should be able to help you.
If you want to connect your 6110/6150/7110 to an external connector, we have a adaptor lead to do just this.
Plugs into rear antenna socket with short lead to fme plug - then you can connect your antenna cable to this.
Let me know how many you need.

External antenna or weather proof Airport Express

Does anyone have a solution for connecting an external antenna to an Airport device, be it an Express or Extreme via coax. With the insulation on my house having a metallic cladding the signal is attenuated significantly and outdoor reception is poor to non-existent (iPhone to iPad respectively). The other solution would be a weather proof box? or the like. Freezer bags don't make it.

Be sure to check with your HOA (Home Owners Association) first. Most HOAs restrict antennas in various ways.
Some HOAs do not allow any type of radio transmission.

The Distance between you computer and router is around 100fts, i think if you are planning to buy an antenna i think it wont help you. Its better you go for a WRE54G, I think this will solve your Problem.

External Antenna Not Recognized

I am having trouble with a weak signal on one of my Mac PB laptops(titanium model) when I am in the furthest bedroom from my Airport, so I recently purchased a used Dr. Bott external antenna for my AEBS (the white dome-shaped one) which has an external antenna jack. I powered down everything and disconnected the ATT modem, the AEBS, connected the antenna and then proceeded to power up everything. I still get an internet connection on all of my computers, but there is no noticeable difference in signal strength. I was under the impression that the AEBS would recognize the antenna and it would show up in the Airport Admin Utility. Is there some kind of software that needs to be installed or uploaded to the AEBS? I tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything a second time but got the same results. Are there any other Dr. Bott antenna/AEBS users out there that have done this with success? Perhaps I'm overlooking something obvious or the antenna is inoperable. Thanks for your feedback.

These are the SoundStick speakers that connect using a regular mini-jack to the iMac audio output, correct? I ask, because earlier SoundStick speakers connected using USB.
If you connect regular headphones, such as iPod earbuds, to the iMac's audio output mini-jack, do they work? If they do not, the problem is more general than the SoundStick speakers.
If you connect the speakers to some other device, such as an iPod, do they work?

The 1310's either have an external antenna connector or an integrated antenna. They don't have both.
The part number AIR-BR1310G-x-K9-R requires and external antenna. AIR-BR1310G-x-K9 has the integrated antenna.

External antenna on mini PCI WiFi card

The stock mini PCI WiFi card on the MEGA 865 has terrible range. I can not connect to an access point beyond 20 feet. Can an external antenna be added to the card? Does someone sell a mini PCI WiFi with external antenna? The new MEGA 865 PRO has an external antenna!!!!! Where can I buy this 865 PRO WiFi card and antenna? My PCI slot is filled and USB keys seem to have about the same range.
In another computer I have a D Link PCI card 802.11 a/b/g with external antenna with excellent signal at 100 feet.

I got new Intel drivers for my wireless Mini-PCI card from the Intel site itself.
It now is very stable...transferred more than 5gig at once without dropouts
Only problem is that the speed is sacrificed a bit...i was getting slightly higher transfer rates with the original drivers(which came with the card).. now im getting max 2MByte/s(16Mbits/s) with these new drivers....also Windows can see the wireless network connection as "Status:Excellent"..so im pleased with the stability
Can any1 explain how(even when 2 wireless-G devices are sitting next to each other) they can never reach 54MBit/s ??? So then 108MB/s must be an absolute load of crap ..and not even reach 54MBit/s properly
I should be getting around 54MBit/s ..after all why say its 54MBit/s when its not ....grrrr

Cisco 1300 Series with AIR-ANT24120 external antenna

I am using Cisco 1300 Outdoor Access Point/Bridge. I connect AIR-ANT24120 omni antenna to the Right Primary connector but i'm not sure whether the AIR-ANT24120 is working or not because i find no difference in range before and after i deploy my AIR-ANT24120. Please could anyone confirm the working configure for this AIR-ANT24120 on my case. The 1300 Access Poiny/Bridge running C1310 Software Version 12.3(8) JA2.

Thanks for the advice. Things now is much clear now. i am connecting a client to the 1310. For a bridge link i can definetly associate from few kilometers away. But i was thinking that it is also possible to associate from few kilometer away using my labtop also. In orther words i am trying to connect a client to the 1310. Please if you have additional words on this, please i am really appreciate that co's i am sure it would help clarify more on this issue. Especially the limitation of clients or how far can i connect my client to the 1310, Or are there any special configuration on the 1310 plus my 12 dbi omni external antenna attach to it that would increase the range for my clients or is it only 100M-200M the maximum range for client irregardless of the external high gain antenna and all.

External antenna on my MBP?

I’m going on holiday later this year and a friend’s apartment has a WiFi access point. The problem is, it’s about 100m away from the apartment I’m staying at. Although there is a clear line of sight, there is a small stream in a steep valley between the two apartments so I can't just wander over there. The WiFi signal is occasionally visible to my HP iPAQ but of course does not even register on my MBP.
Is it possible to use an external antenna on my MBP to increase the WiFi sensitivity? If it is, are there any recommendations for the antenna and how would I actually use it? Would I have to disable the on-board WiFi – and how do I do that?

QuickerTek is the only company I know of making antennas and external transceivers for Macs. I don't see that they have an external antenna for the MacBook Pros, so it would appear that you'd have to go with their external transceiver (which connects via USB). Whether that's worth it to you at $225.00 US would be up to you.

Is external antenna required for Late 2004 Bluetooth to function?

I have a G5 Late 2004 with the blue module installed, but i don't have the external antenna. Is this required for operation, or is my module bad? It shows up in profiler,but won't connect to anything. Also, if it is required, does anyone know a good place to purchase one.

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology, and you're going to shorten that extensively if you don't have an antenna. As you're seeing, it probably won't even work without the antenna.
The external antenna is about $30 from Mac-pro.com.
Are you missing the Airport antenna as well? Both antennas were in the same bag, as I recall.
