Connecting failed after install
I was able to install Arch from the live cd but after reboot I run wifi-menu as root and after choosing the ssid it says "connecting failed".
I've also tried connecting to an SSID without a password in case it was the wpa_supplicant but that didn't work either.
I've also tried going through the beginner's guide to bring up wifi using ip link but that didn't work either.
I've confirmed the iwlwifi module is loaded but no idea where to go from here. Can anyone offer any help?
Turns out I had to force dhclient as mentioned in the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/netctl
Not sure why this works from the live cd but not from a booted system...

I have file sharing enabled and all that jazz. I haven't tinkered with my system settings. It worked fine until I installed Lion. If anyone could help I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks!
Here's a screeny (posted an image-link to save space)someone just informed me that they had difficulty accessing the link I shared above. I went back, found the problem with the link and here's the one that takes you there. See page 2 for the solution I found.

ODBC connections fails after going from Office 2003 to 2010 on some but not all PCs. Setting up the connection has been a hit and miss. Have tried both x86 and x64. Any ideas? Use ODBC from the control panel and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 same results. Using

ThanksHello,
Please consider to configure Windows Firewall or disable it. Not only Windows Firewall but any security software.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc646023(v=sql.120).aspx
Windows Firewall is enabled by default.
Make sure you are using SQL Server Native Client to create the ODBC DSN. Not all Windows versions have it, so you may need to download and install it.
Hope this helps.

Pairing devices fails after install of osx 10.8.5.. It fails at my Iphone and Ipad touch during the pairing about 5 seconds after I confirm the 6 digit number. Does this make sense? Whats the fix? I am moderately computer literate. Thanks for considering this.
The following entry may indicate a failing harddrive, so doing backups and replacing the harddrive may be in order.

S.M.A.R.T. Status: Failing <-----------
A little bit about drive S.M.A.R.T. status:
"The most basic information that SMART provides is the SMART status. It provides only two values: "threshold not exceeded" and "threshold exceeded". Often these are represented as "drive OK" or "drive fail" respectively. A "threshold exceeded" value is intended to indicate that there is a relatively high probability that the drive will not be able to honor its specification in the future: that is, the drive is "about to fail". The predicted failure may be catastrophic or may be something as subtle as the inability to write to certain sectors, or perhaps slower performance than the manufacturer's declared minimum."

T60, Advanced Mini-Dock: Wireless connection fails after undock
I have a Thinkpad T60 that I use at work, normally docked in a Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock, but occasionally undock (to bring to a meeting, etc.). Normally, the wireless works fine -- I can connect to the wireless network at work, to my home wireless network, and to public access points (e.g. at a coffee shop) with no trouble. In the past, at work, when I undocked the machine, the ThinkVantage Access Connections application would automatically switch me from my wired LAN connection to the office's wireless LAN, and everything would work great.
However, about a month ago, I started experiencing a problem where after I undock, ThinkVantage Access Connections doesn't automatically connect me to the office wireless network. If I manually try to get ThinkVantage Access Connections to connect to the wireless network (by left-clicking on the ThinkVantage Access Connections in the system tray and selecting [my work network name] | Connect from the context menu that appears), it fails; the connection attempt fails on the "Applying Wireless Settings" step (the very first step).
From this failed state, if I leave the computer undocked and reboot it, the wireless will work ok following the reboot. (The "Applying Wiress Settings" step seems to take an abnormally long time in this case, but it does eventually succeed.)
I'm running Windows XP SP2, and ThinkVantage Access Connections 4.52 (the current latest version). The wireless card is the "Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG"; it is running driver version 11.05.0.APIc (the current latest version).
This problem *may* have started happening immediately after I installed a round of updates through the ThinkVantage System Update application (I'm not 100% sure). I can see via System Update's Install History window that both Access Connections 4.52 and the 11.05.0.APIc wireless card driver were installed on 5/16/2008.
One other data point: Yesterday, after undocking my machine, the "Access Connections Main Service" crashed (I got the typical Windows XP "[application] has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" dialog.) I manually restarted Access Connections via its Start menu entry (Start | Programs | ThinkVantage | Access Connections), and after that, I *was* able to successfully connect to the wireless network without rebooting.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a better solution than rebooting after each undock, or possibly, manually killing and restarting the ThinkVantage Access Connections process after each undock?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Reverting to ThinkVantage Access Connections 4.42 solved this problem for me. (As noted above, I was previously running 4.52.) My laptop now once again automatically and successfully connects to the local wireless network following an undock.
I do get an error dialog now on an undock or redock. Dialog caption: "netsh.exe - Unable to Locate Component". Dialog text: "This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
However, the error dialog seems to be "harmless" in that at least my network connections are now working like they should, and it's easy enough to click the OK button to dismiss the dialog. -

Downgrade to dhcpcd 6.1.0 heals the problem.

In case it is related to ath9k:
# modinfo ath9k
filename:
/lib/modules/3.12.9-2-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k.ko.gz
I couldn't find a bug report on neither dhcpcd nor ath9k.
Any idea what I can do to follow up on this?

Ethernet connection issues after installing Mountain Lion
After installing Mountain Lion I can't get my iMac to connect by ethernet. It says that no cable is connected. The cable/connection is fine. When I plug in my MacBook Pro running Lion, the ethernet connects just fine.
same exact problem. in fact, my iMac24 (2009) worked flawlessly until I installed the latest update to Mountain Lion. I then checked my MBAir (2011) and it too has a problem when using the USB/Ethernet adapter. Neither can get an ethernet connection. I deleted my network preferences and rebooted my machine, played around with my Ethernet switch and even reboot my gateway/router. I've never had to do any of this to my network until Mountain Lion. Wireless is the only thing that continues to work on both machines.

Mac App Store Connection Failed After Mavericks Update
Hi y'all,
immediately after I updated my Lion to Mavericks (10.9.1), I could not access no more Mac App Store: as I enter my (valid and active) Apple ID credentials, I receive a "Connection Failed" message (in red, in the same login dialog, under the user id field).
So I've tried to set to "Always Trust" all of my Class 3 Certificates in my Keychain, I removed all of the Mac Appstore plist files (appstore and storeagent), I've also tried to remove the network preferences plist file to reset my network interfaces preferences, I've also deleted the ocsp and crls cache files, and I've setup the ocsp and crls certificates preferences in my Keychain Access to off.
I obviously checked out my App Store account and it's correct and active - I'm also currently using it on my iPhone, iPad and iPod with no problem at all!
Anyway I wanted to try creating a new App Store account from the Mac AppStore itself: after I validated it, I tried to login into Mac AppStore... with no success!
So, NONE of the above mentioned attempts solved the problem, and I'm WORRIED and astonished wondering HOW APPLE COULD RELEASE A MAJOR O.S. UPDATE THAT SMASHES THE MAC APP STORE, WHICH IS ONE OF THE CORE APPS OF THIS O.S.!!! I use Mac OSes since many years and I never had O.S. problems (only some minor issue with third party applications out of Apple's scope and solved with some simple workaround).
CAN ANYBODY PLEASE HELP ME? :-)
THX IN ADVANCE,
DANILaunch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -
T42 network connection problem after installing XP SP3
We have had problems with wireless connection after installing Windows XP SP3 on our T42 laptops.
To cut a long story short the solution was actually related to the driver for the wired ethernet card. With version 8.7.9.0 of the driver an ipconfig gave an error saying there was a hardware problem and new wireless connections could not be made without a wired connection being made first.
The solution was rolling back to driver version 7.2.17.101 at which point all the problems were resolved.
My question is what would be the pitfalls of rolling back to an older driver from 2004. In other words what is in the newer drivers that makes them 'better'. Will I now encounter a new set of problems?
Many thanks in advance for your support.Anthony, welcome to the forum,
take a look at this thread, it may be what you are experiencing.

8i tnslistener failed after installing OAS in NT
I have 8i, webdb in nt machine. They work fine. After I
installing OAS 4.0.7, and reboot the machine, I can't connect to
8i anymore. I tried to use svrmgrl, it gives me following
message: Message 4505 not found; no message file for
producat=RDBMS, facility=MGR; Error while trying to retrieve
text for error ORA-12538. After I got to svrmgr and try connect
internal, it gives me: Message 701 not found; No message file
for product=RDBMS, facility=MGR.
I tried clean install 8i, webdb and OAS three times, got the
same error. I have searched all the 8i document, got no idea.
I am just curious: 1)what does these error message mean?
2)I found that after Install OAS and reboot the machine, the
TNSlistner won't start, is there any conflict between
TNSlistener and OAS listeners, they have different port?
Response is greatly appreciated.

nullORACLE_HOME problem????
-Try installing first OAS and then 8i (I don't know if is
possible). I have had the same problem installing first 8i and
then forms 6.0 (oracle installer 3.2 doesn't suport multiples
ORACLE_HOMES).
-Try installing in diferents ORACLE_HOME.
-Good luck with OAS ;-)

[Forum FAQ] Management Point fails after installing SCCM 2012 SP1
Symptom:
The Management Point might fail to be installed after you install SCCM 2012 sp1 on Windows Server 2012, either fresh install or others.
You might see some errors in mpMSI.log like listed below.
“Setup was unable to compile the file CcmExec_Global.mof”
“The error code is 80041002”
Cause:
Reinstall Management Point cannot work. This is because CCM Namespace remains in WMI which prevents SCCM from installing MP. You need clear CCM Namespace from WMI.
Resolution:
1. Uninstall Management Point from the console, then wait for the uninstallation to finish in MPSetup.log.
2. Open Wbemtest -> Connect to root -> Click Enum Classes and choose Recursive -> Double click _NAMESPACE in Query Result dialog -> Click Instances -> Delete _NAMESPACE.Name=”ccm”
3. Install Management Point.
