Connecting HDD to Airport Extreme causes orange death light...

I am in a small office network with mix of pc and mac (7 pc's, 1 iMac, 1 wireless iMac, and 3 wireless macbook pro's). Internet connection comes into building directly to airport. Airport then feeds a couple of systems directly and a Dlink 24port ethernet switch which connects all other hardwired network connections.
I just purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1.5TB external USB2 drive to be used as a network storage drive (not with time machine just grabbing and dumping files for interoffice sharing). Removed preloaded software and formatted fat32. Disk will be mounted and recognized when connected to any mac directly. When connected to the usb port on the airport extreme it begins to initialize and then bombs. Airport gives the orange death light and there is no connectivity to the router for all (ie internet connection, etc.) When you unglug the HDD the router reboots and then goes back to green light of peacefulness. What am I missing? Setting? Order of connection? Not hitting it hard enough on the ground with a large 10lb sledge hammer? Help me out...

you may need to restart the AEBSn with the drive plugged in.
since it might have been long since the AEBSn was restarted and anything else attached to it.
or a restore to factory settings...
i know not the best you want to hear, it should just work.
make sure all the AEBSn updates are there...etcetc
i was having this problem the past month or so and it started working again flawlessly after a few restarts.

My problem is i have connected my printer and external hard drive to my airport extreme that i just bought. Next i have installed all the nessesary software, created new newtwork, and now when i go to airport utility, then i click on my airport extreme, and under disks i see my external hard drive, but when i clcik on arrow next to it nothing appears. Also i cant find my external hard drive in explorer. With my printer i dont see it completly in airport utility.

Ok i connected HDD to airport extreme usb port( no hub). I went to airport utility and it recognises HDD under disks, and sharing is turned on. But the problem is i cant find it anywhere else on my computer, even when i search in explorer
I am assuming the the Mac is not having similar problems locating this HDD in the Finder ... correct? If it is only the PC, which version of Windows is it running?

i have got a belkin wifi router and i have been using this for ever but now since i have the Airport extreme i wanted it to connect it to my existing network and access my seagate HDD wirelessly and l without plugging in any ethernet or any kind of cable to my Airport extreme router....

the reason i cant use cables is beacuse all my printer, hdd and airport extreme, n airport express is in one separate room and the internet modem and the router is in different location.....
My Airport Express worked perfectly fine printing wirelessly and using air tunes wirelessly through connecting it to my existing Belkin wifi.....but somehow my Airport extreme doesnt seem to be happy with me doing the same process....
i would appreciate any kind of help i may get.....

Need help with sonos speaker setup, connecting to music through an NAS hdd on AirPort Extreme.i

i Cannot figure out how to connect the sonos speaker with the right path. It also wants a password for the disk and I don't recall setting up one. My speaker works fine through my pc or MacBook but I want to play music from a shared folder on an hdd that is connected to my AirPort Extreme. Any ideas or experience with this???

You may be going on a recollection, that I share, that at one time Apple stated this would be possible:

But if you look at the current Time Machine page on Apple’s Web site, that text is nowhere to be found.
That was a long time ago, it has never been officially implemented, and at present they specifically say it cannot be done.
In summary, it may work, but probably won't, and even if it does it may not be reliable.

Internet connection loss using Airport Extreme and Netgear DG843

Hello,
I am accessing internet via a Netgear DG834 router (not wifi), connected to an Airport Extreme base station. Most of the time, I can access internet through the Wifi network of the AEB without any problem. But around once a day I am experiencing connection loss and the only way I found to restore it is to reset the Netgear Router by physically unplungging it.
Both the Netgear and the AEB have up to date firmware, so I suspect some kind of problem in my setup, as I am not an expert in setting up networks.
Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected to the AE (which is also a router if I understand correctly) could cause connection problems ?
I am at a loss, and do not even know how to describe the relevant informations of my current setup. If a kind soul could help me nonetheless, I would be very gratefull.

Yes.
Ensure that that the AEBS is configured to not distribute IP addresses.
Also ensure that the AEBS is on a different channel to the DG834G.

I do have an 1TB external HDD connected to my airport extreme, and ive been transferring files mannually. But this solution seems quite interesting! having my itunes library all stored up on it seem cool!

How did you move the music to the external drive? What exactly is on the drive? The entire iTunes folder or only music? If it is the entire iTunes folder you can do the option+start suggestion earlier. For the past year I've been using an external hard drive (HD1) connected to my airport extreme as the back-up location for time machine. This has worked fine without any issues. What I would like to do now is to move my itunes and iphoto libraries off of my laptop (space constraints) and store them on a second external hard drive (HD2) connected to the airport extreme. I have successfully connected the second hard drive using a Belkin powered USB hub. What I am wondering is if I direct my time machine back-ups to HD1 will it back-up both my mac HD as well as HD2? I apologize if this has already been answered but i've read conflicting responses on various message boards and a number of responses were dated so I wanted to make sure I received the latest information.

That may be true, but you need to know that backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple. See: Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk. Do not be surprised if those backups suddenly turn up corrupted.

No. Time Machine cannot back up from any network location. The 3rd-party utilities CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync may be workable alternatives.

Hi Adam, if you think yoiur HD may be failing you could do a TM restore onto the new disk. I would rather see you do a clone either SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.Of your internal drive. That way you have a bootable backup in case it does fail.
btw - what are the symptoms of your failing drive?

External hard drive connected to my airport extreme will no longer open, when navigating to it in Finder, the Finder window quits and reopens, cannot access hard drive, it is visible in airport utility, since the problem began I have updated firmware on Extreme as well as both of my Airport Expresses. Hard drive is USB connected to Extreme.

Reboot the USB drive.. assuming it is powered.. or unplug and replug a self-powered drive.. (you should not use self-powered drives on AE before the latest model.. always use a powered hub).
Does the drive now appear in finder..
If not reboot both drive and the AE.. it should now appear.
If it doesn't work with direct connection try a powered hub.. that can help.
